The world premiere of the fourth generation BMW M3 - the sporty version of the BMW 3 Series - took place at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2007. The M3 is distinguished from the "standard" 3 Series by more powerful and efficient engines, improved suspension and braking systems, aerodynamic bodywork, and special exterior and interior trim with a three-color "M" (Motorsport) emblem.

The front of the coupe has three air intakes that serve to supply air to the intake and engine cooling system, the large size of the holes indirectly speaks of the impressive power hidden under the hood. As with previous generations of the M3, the fourth generation introduced a new V8 engine - the BMW S65 - and a new chassis to achieve perfect balance between the axles.

Standard equipment of the BMW M3 Coupe includes 18-inch wheels, a self-locking rear differential, automatic and adaptive xenon headlights, automatic wipers, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, sports seats with adjustable side and lumbar support, Bluetooth / USB interfaces. The winter package includes heated front seats. Premium package - folding mirrors, keyless entry and start, leather trim, rear parking sensors and a navigation system with real-time traffic display and voice commands. Also, additional options include power front seats, rear curtain, 19-inch wheels, Premium Sound system. The M3 coupe received a carbon roof similar to that of the E46 CSL. At the same time, the roof could be replaced with a standard one and supplemented with a hatch. In addition, the car can be equipped with adaptive dampers, lowered sports suspension. A light version of the M3 GTS was also produced, where much of the usual standard equipment is simply absent in order to minimize the weight of the sports car.

The naturally aspirated V8 engine has a displacement of 4 liters and develops 420 hp. at 8300 rpm, and the maximum torque is 400 Nm at 3900 rpm. The increase in power compared to its predecessor was 22%. Initially, only a 6-speed manual transmission was offered for the new M3, but since April 2008 a new transmission has become available - a 7-speed Getrag dual-clutch automatic. The latter offers manual control via paddle shifters or fully automatic mode.

The chassis of the BMW M3 E92 series is a completely new development designed to adapt to a significant increase in drive power and at the same time save weight. That is why almost all components of the front axle are made of aluminum, including the front struts, swivel bearings, center subframe, most of the rear suspension parts. To improve handling, the BMW M3 is equipped with an active rear differential that distributes torque to the wheels and provides up to 100% locking action, thus guaranteeing optimal traction on all surfaces. The adaptive chassis provides three operating modes: Comfort, Sport and Sport +, depending on which the dynamic characteristics are adjusted.

Standard safety features of the BMW M3 coupe include anti-lock braking and disc brakes, traction control and stability control; front and side airbags, curtain airbags. The latter are absent from the convertible, but the front side airbags cover the space up to the head, and there are also safety arcs that are automatically triggered in case of a rollover. In the relevant tests, the vehicle has achieved excellent braking performance and good crash test results.

The BMW M3 Coupé not only demonstrates outstanding sporting performance, but also the practicality necessary for everyday use, not to mention the high level of reliability inherent in cars of this brand.

»E30 series, was first demonstrated in the fall of 1985 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, and in 1986 its mass production began. The car was created with an eye on auto racing, as a response to a powerful sedan.

Especially for this model, a 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine was prepared, which developed 195 hp. With. Other differences between the BMW M3 and conventional third-series cars are a rear self-locking differential, modified suspension geometry, different springs and dampers, extended fenders and an aerodynamic body kit. The gearbox was mechanical, five-speed. Thanks to its low weight and powerful engine, the BMW M3 coupe could accelerate to “hundreds” in 6.7 seconds, and in terms of its driving characteristics it was closer to racing cars than to “civilians”.

In 1987, the BMW M3 received variable resistance shock absorbers, and in 1989, an upgraded engine, the output of which increased to 215 hp. With.

The M3 Evolution with a capacity of 220 hp was produced in small batches. s., M3 Sport Evolution with a 2.5-liter engine developing 238 forces, and an open body version. In total, until 1991, 16,202 "m-thirds" rolled off the assembly line of the Munich plant.

2nd generation (E36), 1992–1999

"Emka" of the second generation of the 1992 model has become a more comfortable car. Externally, the BMW M3 coupe differed from the "" E36 series only in other mirrors, front bumper and sills. Under the hood of the car there was a three-liter in-line six-cylinder engine with a variable valve timing system, its output was 286 hp. With. In 1994, customers began to offer the BMW M3 sedan and convertible.

The new 3.2-liter engine, which began to be put on the car in 1995, became more powerful - 321 hp. s., thanks to which the acceleration time to 100 km / h was reduced from six to 5.5 seconds. At the same time, instead of a five-speed “mechanics” of gears, the BMW M3 received a six-speed one, and in 1997, as an option, customers began to offer the “robot” SMG - a manual box with an electro-hydraulic clutch drive and a gear shift mechanism.

"M-thirds" for the American market had a capacity of 243 liters. with., regardless of the volume of the engine, and for a surcharge for them it was possible to order a traditional "automatic". In 1994, a special version of the BMW M3 GT was released with a run of 350 cars, which received a boost to 295 hp. With. engine.

The second generation of the model was produced until 1999, the total production amounted to 71242 cars.

3rd generation (E46), 2000–2006

The third-generation BMW M3 coupe, whose production at the plant in Regensburg, Germany, started in 2000, could be distinguished from the cars of the third series by the extended wheel arches and the front bumper of a different shape. The new in-line "six" with a volume of 3.2 liters, which developed 343 liters. with., completed with a six-speed "mechanics" or a robotic box SMG II with the same number of gears. In 2001, a convertible version appeared in the lineup.

In 2003, a lightweight BMW M3 CSL was introduced, in which some body panels were made of carbon fiber, and the engine was boosted to 360 forces. Such machines were made in 1383 units. In the same year, a semi-racing BMW M3 GTR with a V8 4.0 engine with 350 horsepower was released in a series of 10 units.

The total number of third-generation emoks produced before 2006 was 85,744 vehicles.

4th generation (E90/E92/E93), 2007–2013

The fourth generation of the BMW M3, which debuted in 2007, was available in sedan, coupe and hardtop coupe-convertible body styles. For the first time, a car received an eight-cylinder power unit: the V8 4.0 engine, which develops 420 forces, was created on the basis of a ten-cylinder engine from the model. Gearboxes - six-speed manual or seven-speed preselective robotic with two clutches.

The emka differed from the civilian versions with a modified suspension, a self-locking differential, a hood made of aluminum and a plastic roof (only for the coupe). In addition, the BMW M3 sedan received a redesigned front end, like a two-door.

In 2009, the BMW M3 GTS version was released with a run of 350 units. Such a machine was lighter and more powerful - thanks to the V8 4.4 engine, which developed 450 hp. With. She was able to accelerate to "hundreds" in 4.3 seconds instead of 4.8 seconds for a conventional coupe.

The car was officially delivered to the Russian market, prices started at about 3.2 million rubles for a two-door coupe. BMW M3 sedans were produced until 2011, and coupes and convertibles until 2013. In total, 66 thousand copies of the model were produced.

The two-door M3 E92 Coupe debuted in the fall of 2007 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Compared to the usual "treshka" coupe, the car received an aerodynamic body kit, a powerful eight-cylinder engine and reconfigured equipment, including suspension, brakes and steering.

The external differences between the powerful version of the BMW M3 coupe in the back of the E92 and the base car are not too serious - the main changes lie in the details. Attention is drawn to the enlarged air intakes in the front bumper, the hood with a hump that appeared on it, the vents in the front fenders and the door sills.

Options and prices BMW M3 Coupe (E92)

In addition, you can distinguish the car by a different rear bumper, a small spoiler on the trunk lid, two twin exhaust pipes located closer to the center, and not at the edges, as well as branded 18-inch alloy wheels (19-inch wheels are optionally available) .

In the cabin of the BMW M3 (E92) Coupe, sports seats with developed lateral support are installed, as well as other steering wheels and gear levers. Under the hood is a 4.0-liter V8 gasoline engine that produces 420 hp. and a peak torque of 400 Nm transmitted to the wheels of the rear axle.

The base transmission for the M3 coupe is a 6-speed manual, with which the car picks up 100 km / h from standstill in 4.8 seconds (0.1 second faster than the M3 E90 sedan). For a surcharge, you can install a 7-speed “robot” to change the mechanics, which allows you to accelerate to hundreds even faster - in 4.6 seconds.

The maximum speed of the two-door is electronically limited to 250 km / h, but, if desired, the “collar” can be loosened, allowing the M3 E92 to accelerate to 280 km / h. True, for such a pleasure you have to pay 137,716 rubles.

For the car itself, Russian dealers are asking for at least 3,259,000 rubles - 196,000 rubles more than for the M3 E90 sedan. The surcharge for a robotic box is 213,614 rubles - with it, the price of the BMW M3 coupe 2012 already reaches 3,472,614 rubles.

At the same time, there are still many options, the installation of which can increase the cost of the model to almost four million rubles.

The fifth generation (according to the “third eMoks”, based on the sixth generation of the 3-series) of the BMW M3 sedan was presented at the Detroit Auto Show. The novelty lost some weight, got a faster engine, tried on a new design and received dozens of technical innovations that made the BMW M3 sedan one of the most technologically advanced and attractive in its class. It is gratifying that this generation of the Bavarian M3 sedan will not sit out in Europe and will reach Russia in the summer of 2014.

After the transition to a new generation of BMW M3 "orphaned". If earlier the lineup included not only a sedan, but also a coupe with a convertible, now the coupe has become an independent model - the BMW M4, and the prospects for the appearance of a convertible on the Russian market, which will most likely join the M4 series, are not at all clear yet. . However, perhaps this is for the best, since the main attention will now be riveted on the sedan, which has something to offer its customers.

The fifth BMW M3 (2015 model year) received a more daring appearance with an aggressive front bumper, a hump hood, dynamic body contours and stylish decor elements in the face of chrome inserts, sports pipes, nice rims and a neat mini-spoiler on the trunk lid. In the manufacture of body elements, the Germans actively used aluminum and carbon fiber, from which, in particular, the roof was made. All this made it possible to significantly reduce the weight of the novelty, so now the minimum curb weight of the BMW M3 F80 is only 1560 kg. As for the dimensions, the length of the body of the sedan is 4671 mm, the length of the wheelbase is 2812 mm, the width without mirrors is 1877 mm, together with the mirrors it increases to 2037 mm, but the height of the novelty is limited to 1430 mm. The front and rear track widths are 1579 and 1603 mm, respectively. The ride height is 122mm.

The four-seater saloon of this sedan was created on the basis of the BMW 3-Series F30, but differs in a large bias towards sports design and the presence of bucket-shaped front seats. Otherwise, the interior of the novelty is practically indistinguishable from the serial "three rubles". Note that the useful volume of the trunk of the M3 is now 480 liters.

Specifications. The F80th BMW received a completely new engine, which replaced the old V8 with a return of 420 “horses”. The novelty is now equipped with an in-line six-cylinder TwinPower Turbo S55 power unit with two turbochargers and a displacement of 3.0 liters (2979 cm³), based on the N55 engine. The engine is equipped with a 24-valve timing, a direct fuel injection system, a throttle-free mixture formation system, a system for adjusting the height and duration of raising the intake valves, as well as intake and exhaust phase shifters. The maximum engine power due to modernization has been raised to 431 hp. (317 kW), which develop in the range from 5500 to 7300 rpm. The peak torque falls at around 550 Nm, held in the range of 1850 - 5500 rpm.

In the base, the engine is aggregated with the new Getrag 6-speed “mechanics”, which allows the sedan to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in just 4.3 seconds. As an option, you can install a 7-band “robot” with two clutches, which will reduce the starting acceleration time to 4.1 seconds with the “Launch control” function turned on. The top speed limit in both cases is electronically limited to 250 km/h, but it can be pushed up to 280 km/h with the optional M Driver's Package.
As for fuel consumption, this BMW M3 consumes about 8.8 liters of AI-95 gasoline with a manual transmission, and 8.3 liters in a mixed driving mode with an optional "robot".

The fifth generation of the BMW M3 received the F80 platform index - most of the chassis of which was borrowed from the BMW 3-Series F30. At the front, the developers used an independent suspension on MacPherson struts, and at the rear they used an independent multi-link suspension. True, we note that the geometry of the front and rear subframes was changed, many elements received more aluminum in their composition, and most of the silent blocks were replaced with hinges. In the base, the novelty receives disc brakes on all wheels (4-piston front and 2-piston rear), which can be optionally replaced with carbon-ceramic brakes with 6-piston calipers in front and 4-piston rear. The steering is complemented by an electromechanical power steering with three operating modes: "Comfort", "Sport" and "Sport+".

The sedan received a rear-wheel drive with an active differential with electronically controlled wheel locks and a lightweight cardan shaft made of durable carbon fiber. The degree of blocking of each wheel can now vary from 0 to 100%, which allows you to use the differential as a means of assisting when passing tight corners or taking the car out of a controlled skid.

Options and prices. Sedan BMW M3 already in early 2014 is available for pre-order from official Russian dealers. The debut of the novelty in our market is expected closer to the beginning of summer, but the prices have already been announced. For the basic version of the BMW M3 with manual transmission, adaptive cruise control, climate control, bi-xenon headlights and 18-inch wheels, the Germans are asking for a price of at least 3,222,000 rubles.

And produced in the back of a coupe, sedan and convertible. At the moment, the latest modification of the M3 is produced only as a sedan, since the production of the coupe and convertible was completely completed, it was replaced by a new series - the BMW M4.

A feature of the BMW M3 is a more powerful and productive engine, improved suspension, brake system, aerodynamic body improvements, a sportier interior and the presence of a three-color "M" logo ().

The M3 is one of the company's most special sports cars, with not only excellent handling, but also amazing practicality and convenience.
