Installation and connection of fog lights. Connecting fog lights through a relay: diagram, step-by-step instructions Installing fog lights vaz 2114

03.11.2019

Fog lights (PTF) used to perform one function - they provided visibility when driving in fog. But when the inclusion of lights in the daytime became mandatory, the PTF had a new application (applies to cars that do not have DRLs). More recently, foglights went to domestic cars as an additional option, while foreign cars were initially equipped with such a safety element. The VAZ 2114 car has PTF only on trim levels starting from Lux.

It is also possible to install fog lights on VAZ cars. And this must be done, because when driving through fog or snow, fog lights help a lot.

PTF installation is carried out in two ways:

  • Put a new bumper with cutouts for additional optics.
  • Cut holes on the standard bumper yourself.

To install this type of optics, the following elements are required:

  1. Fog lights, many motorists choose the xenon option.
  2. Installation components - button, wires, main relay and fuse.
  3. Tool for creating a hole for the PTF or a new front bumper.

Electronics Installation Instructions

First, consider the wiring installation scheme, since it does not change depending on the choice of installation (new bumper or "editing" the old one). If there is no space in the bumper for such optics, then there is a hole on the dashboard that covers the plug.

The process is the following:

  1. First of all, you need to install the button. The photo shows the location for this button.
  2. To get to the connection point, the grill must be removed. Behind it is a speaker, which also needs to be unscrewed. There will be two connectors in front of the motorist: one is for the power indicator, and the second is for starting the PTF.
  3. After dismantling the grille, you need to remove the plug and put the button from the kit in its place. The plugs are connected to the connectors - you can't make a mistake here. After that, the grille and speaker return to their original positions.
  4. In the cabin, all the tasks are done, you can go under the hood. To access the connectors of interest, you must remove the fuse box, which is also known as the "black box".
  5. The next step is to pull the wires from the relay and PTF to the black box.
  6. There are unoccupied connectors in the mounting block, one of them is Ш7 (wide connector) and Ш8 (narrow connector). Guided by the diagram, you need to connect the terminals to the desired connectors.
  7. Now Ш8 and Ш7 with the free side return inside the safety block.
  8. The fog lights are almost installed, it remains to return the mounting block to its place and attach the relay to the body of the VAZ 2114. It is necessary to place a ground wire (grounding) under the same mount, stripping this piece of the body from the paintwork.
  9. Now the fog lights need to be connected to the power wiring. The ground wire must be installed compactly, where nothing will interfere with contact with the body of the VAZ 2114.

Installation of foglights

The easiest way (but it will also be more expensive) is to install a new bumper, which initially has holes for DRL. The owner of the VAZ 2114 needs to dismantle the old bumper - the fasteners are removed from above and below, and a new one is installed in its place. To cut holes on a standard bumper, you will need an electronic drill with special nozzles or a simple jigsaw, as well as “glasses”. The process goes like this:

  1. The bumper is removed, it needs to be marked under the stencil for optics.
  2. Next, work is carried out with a jigsaw or drill.
  3. When the holes are ready, “glasses” are mounted in them, which are needed to close the cutout. The "glasses" consist of two parts - internal (attached to the bumper from the outside) and external (perform a decorative function).

Useful advice: the installation should be as reliable as possible, since fog lights are subject to strong vibration and shaking while driving. This is especially true of the broken roadway, on which the car is quite often. The more reliably the PTFs are fixed, the longer they will serve the owner of the VAZ 2114.

An excellent illustrative example of the installation of PTF

Earlier we said that fog lights on the VAZ 2114 and on other Samaras are installed from the factory only in the "Luxury" versions. And without - it’s not very comfortable to ride, because. the head light of the "Samara" is very weak, worse than on the "nine". That is why many car owners are wondering how to install foglights on their own?

In fact, the whole process is very simple, but it takes time. You can even get by with an old bumper without holes for PTF - cut it out with a jigsaw and put "glasses".

What is needed to install foglights (PTF)?

  1. Bumper with cutouts for PTF well, or a jigsaw and "glasses" for PTF.
  2. Installation kit for PTF (price 240r): wiring, relay, fuse, button.
  3. The fog lights themselves (PTF) with lamps ().

How to install and connect PTF?

Installation and connection of fog lights is done in 3 stages:

  • installation of PTF in the bumper;
  • connecting wiring to the mounting block through a relay;
  • setting the button in the panel.

Fog lights wiring diagram

Well, I think everything is clear here! The scheme is not complete: the mass of the PTFs themselves on the body is not indicated, which must be done without fail. You need to fix the mass in a safe place, naturally on the metal! Before fastening, be sure to clean the metal from dirt and tighten the mass well so that there are no voltage drops. Otherwise, PTFs will burn dimly, unevenly.

Installation of fog lights in the bumper

As mentioned above, you have two options - either install a new bumper with ready-made cutouts for PTF, or cut it yourself with a jigsaw. To do this, remove the bumper, mark the mounting holes, cut with a jigsaw.

Connecting wiring to the mounting block through a relay

  1. First of all, we open the hood, find the mounting block and unscrew its two fasteners to the body on the sides, remove the cover from the mounting block.
  2. From the bottom of the mounting block, unfasten the two outermost wire blocks marked "7" and "8".
  3. We take the installation kit: we put the wires from the kit on the relay.
  4. The other ends of the wires are added to the block of wires "7" and "8" according to the diagram.
  5. We stick the wire blocks back into the mounting block and fasten it back to its native place
  6. Next, we attach the relay to the car body in any place you like: for example, next to the same mounting block.
  7. We carry out the length of the wires from the pads of the mounting block (which we have already installed) to the foglights and connect them. We also attach a mass of foglights to the car body.

Installing a Button in a Panel

To install the button (which comes with the mounting kit) - you need to partially disassemble the front panel.

Fortunately, the plant fussed and installed the wiring for the PTF in all Samar configurations, so we just have to remove the center console and find a block for connecting the button in the wiring.

To disassemble the panel, use the article: and remove only the center console:

Do not forget that the fog lights turn on only after the side lights are turned on!

After installing the PTF, they need to be configured and adjusted!

The purpose of fog lamps is to provide optimal illumination of the road when driving in fog. Therefore, many car owners, in order to protect themselves while driving in bad weather, use PTF. From this material you can learn how to install fog lights on a VAZ 2114 car and how to connect the optics correctly.

Installation methods

You can put foglights on the VAZ 2114 in three ways:

  1. Buy a special tuning bumper in which PTFs are already installed. As a rule, specialized tuning studios are engaged in the production of such bumpers, where they can also be connected. This procedure is not cheap.
  2. To mount on the "four" bumper from the 15th VAZ model with the seats available for mounting the VAZ headlights. All you have to do is buy a set of lights and install them yourself.
  3. Buy fog lights on the VAZ 2114 with so-called glasses - facing components for the lights, and install them. This method will be discussed in more detail.

The fog light kit includes lamps, an activation relay, the necessary wires and a connection button. Also in the kit should be a connection removal. When buying new PTFs, it is necessary to take into account their shape, otherwise difficulties may arise in terms of mounting optics. As the reviews show, the best option for the "four" is to buy optics from the manufacturer "Kirzhach" (the author of the video is the CAR LIFE GENDOLH BELIY channel).

Headlight mounting

How to connect foglights? The installation and connection procedure is detailed below. Immediately make a reservation - if necessary, xenon lamps can be installed in fogs. Xenon in PTF will burn much brighter when compared with traditional incandescent lamps, but its cost will be an order of magnitude higher. Since the bumper on the VAZ 2114 does not have the appropriate places for mounting fog optics, the car owner will have to make them on their own.

All work on the installation of optics is carried out on a dismantled bumper. If you do not know how to remove this body element, then you just need to unscrew the fasteners that fix it. The bumper itself needs to be cleaned, it is advisable to install it at the level of the lower air intake, under the head lighting optics. The installation of lights should be carried out in specially designed places on the bumper - the so-called points.

These glasses must be marked in accordance with the dimensions of the optics themselves, after which the corresponding holes must be made in the bumper. Cutting holes is carried out using a jigsaw, and it is desirable to process the sharp edges on them with sandpaper or a file. PTF should fit as tightly as possible into the hole, so they must be securely fastened with clamps. When the installation of the optics is completed, the bumper can be put back on the car.

PTF connection and control keys

How to connect the device and the power button? As we have already reported, the kit should include a diagram that can be easily understood. First of all, it is necessary to install the wiring in the block with fuses located in the engine compartment. Unscrew the block fixing screws and find the pads Ш7 and Ш8.

It is necessary to connect the wiring and the relay that comes with the kit to these pads, the diagram is as follows:

  1. The cable from connector 87 is a ground that connects to the body.
  2. Exit 85 should go directly to W7.
  3. Pins 30 (to 8) and 86 (to 1) are connected to connector Ш8.

Not far from the block, it is necessary to choose a place where the relay will be mounted. The PTF connection scheme is not particularly complicated - a special button must be used to turn them on, which is mounted in the cabin. For mounting this button on the center console there is a special place. Under the panel there is a special block that must be connected to the key, then the panel is mounted back.

To check the performance of the optics, it is necessary to turn on the dimensions, after which the fog lights are activated. When turned off, the PTF should also automatically turn off. If the lights do not light after connection, this may be due to either incorrect connection, or an inoperative relay, or failed lamps.

If your profession is associated with frequent car trips, or you just love to travel, then you probably know that without good optics it is quite difficult to guarantee driving safety. At the moment, even the shortest trip should not be made without good fog equipment. Such optics are now installed on almost every car in the basic configuration.

However, there are cars in which you have to independently connect foglights through a relay. The scheme and installation steps for this optics are further in our article.

What are foglights for?

Before telling you about the features of mounting these elements, a few words about how important they are for a car. The main function is to supply light. The quality and range of illumination of the roadway depend on this characteristic. If the fog lights are well tuned, they are able to illuminate up to 10 meters of asphalt in front of them, which is quite enough for safe movement at a speed of 50-60 kilometers per hour. And it does not matter what weather you are driving in - with a cloudless sky or with thick fog - this optics always copes with its function. So how do you install it in a car?

Connecting foglights through a relay: diagram and instructions

First, prepare the necessary tools and materials. In the course of work, we will need a 15 amp fuse, several meters of wires, insulating tape, a power button, a block and a PTF relay. The wiring diagram for fog lights through a relay is shown in the photo below. We will be guided by it.

This is the same wiring diagram for the fog lamp relay. In principle, it does not present any difficulty, and it is very easy to deal with it.

Where to start installation?

First of all, you need to remove the central panel - 2 backlight lamps for the furnace regulator will be located here. They do not affect the operation of the PTF in any way, but we will need their wires. To feel for the two-pin connector, you should run your hand along the wire to the very end. It is especially important, since this is where the first contact on the relay will be established. Next, the wire is connected to the location of the oven backlight connector, and its second part goes to a separate PTF power button.

We connect contacts

How to connect fog lights through a relay next? In order for the system to have a twelve-volt network of dimensions and 85 contacts, it is necessary to run a wire to the relay. Next, we stretch the 87th contact under the pedals to the battery.

How to make the correct connection of foglights through includes 30, 85, 86 and 87 pins. We connect them, according to the figure. We also install a 15-amp fuse here. And the closer it is to the battery, the better. Next is the 86th contact. Everything is simple here - we connect it to the body.

About wires

Now you need to deal with the foglights themselves. As we know, there are only two wires coming from each headlight (“plus” and “minus”, respectively). We connect the latter with the body, that is, it will be our mass. Next, we raise it to the relay so that the wires are not visible, and connect it to the battery.

This completes the connection of the fog lights through the relay. The connection diagram, as we can see, is very simple, so even a novice motorist can handle this task.

Second installation option

It will be much easier for car owners who already have a place in the bumper for mounting fog lights. Then you don't need to buy fuses. All that is required is a pair of new foglights and up to 100 centimeters of wire (in reserve).

PTFs for foreign cars most often have two wires painted black and red. The latter is connected to the "plus", and the first - to the "minus". Although on some instances (as, for example, on foglights for the Asian-made Daewoo Nexia), it is unimportant which color to connect to. Red may well perform the function of "plus" and "minus". By the way, if you didn’t find wires for connecting optics in the bumper, it doesn’t matter - you can try connecting them directly to the battery. Moreover, it is not necessary to pull the "plus" and "minus" from each lamp separately. The installation order can be as follows - two wires (as we have already said, black and red) are installed to the battery terminals (more precisely, under them), which go first to the left headlight on the driver's side, and then to the right one. If the wires are short, we take longer ones, we clean their contacts at the ends and connect them. You will have to stock up on electrical tape for this. The color of the long wire that will be connected to the PTF and the battery is not critical. The main thing is that you do not get confused in polarity. You should also be vigilant and disconnect the battery before installation. Otherwise, the slightest contact of the wire with the body may cause a short circuit.

Such a PTF installation algorithm is suitable not only for foreign cars, but also for all domestic cars on which the manufacturer provides a place for attaching optics. For example, on VAZ 2110 and 2114 cars, connecting foglights in this way takes no more than 20-40 minutes of time (and this despite the fact that the motorist has no experience in installing such equipment on a vehicle).

What requirements must the PTF meet?

Finally, we note what rules modern fog lights should meet:

Conclusion

As you can see, connecting foglights to the VAZ 2110 and many other domestic cars is a fairly easy task that every motorist can handle. The fog lamp is your reliable assistant, which allows you to distinguish objects on the roadway in time and react to the traffic situation with a large margin of time.
