Regular ultrasonic radars in cars warn the driver about detected obstacles when parking in a confined space. But this equipment is not installed by manufacturers in all models of machines. The owner can install the parking sensors with his own hands, for this you will need to carefully drill the bumper and run the patch cables through the car body.

Required Tools

To install equipment on a car, you will need the following tools:

  • special cutter for plastic (diameter must match the size of the sensor body);
  • electric drill or cordless screwdriver;
  • set of wrenches;
  • screwdrivers with a flat and cross-shaped sting;
  • a set of wrenches with Torx type heads (required for European-made cars);
  • test device;
  • masking tape;
  • roulette and level;
  • pencil or marker.

How to install parking sensors

To install the parking sensors yourself, you need to mount the sensors in the bumpers of the car and install the warning module in the car. The installation scheme includes a separate control unit, which is connected to the vehicle's on-board network. The parts are interconnected with cables included in the kit.

Before starting installation work, it is recommended to check the functionality of the components of the parking aid. The parts are connected in accordance with the factory wiring diagram, then a 12 V DC source is switched, designed for a current of up to 1 A. To check the sensors, a sheet of cardboard is used, in which holes are drilled for installing products. Then an obstacle is installed in front of each of the sensitive elements, the accuracy of distance measurement is checked with a tape measure.

When installing sensors, it is necessary to take into account the orientation of parts in space.

On the back there is an inscription UP, which is supplemented by an arrow pointer. During installation, the device is positioned with the arrow pointing up, but it is allowed to rotate the sensor by 180° if the bumper is located at a height of more than 600 mm or if the bumper surface is tilted upwards, which degrades the sensitivity of the ultrasonic device.

Scheme

The installation scheme provides for the placement of ultrasonic sensors in the front and rear bumpers. The sensors are located on the end plane, as well as at the corners of the bumper, providing an expansion of the controlled area. The parking assistant can work in conjunction with a rear-view camera that displays an image on the radio screen or a separate display. The control unit is mounted under the lining of the trunk or in the passenger compartment (in an area protected from moisture). An information panel with a buzzer is placed on the instrument panel or built into the mirror.

Installing the rear parking sensors

Installation of rear parking sensors begins with marking the surface of the bumper. The accuracy of the assistant's work depends on the quality of the markup, so it is necessary to study the manufacturer's recommendations in advance. With an erroneous installation, “dead” zones are formed in which an obstacle may appear.

Procedure for installing rear ultrasound sensors:

  1. Apply markings on the plastic bumper cover and stick pieces of masking tape at the points where the sensors are located. The set of equipment may contain a pattern that allows the owner to mark the surface of the bumper and install the sensitive elements himself. Equipment manufacturers recommend installing sensing elements at a height of 550-600 mm from the ground.
  2. Determine the location of the centers of the holes using a tape measure and a hydraulic or laser level. Ultrasonic sensors should be placed symmetrically at the same height.
  3. Mark the centers of the channels with a thin awl so that the cutter does not slip. For drilling, use the tool supplied by the manufacturer of the parking aid. The hole diameter must match the size of the sensor housing to prevent the elements from slipping out during operation.
  4. Fix the cutter in the chuck of an electric tool and start drilling. The cutting tool must be perpendicular to the surface to be machined, while the horizontal position of the cutter is controlled. Please note that there is a metal beam under the plastic shell, which can break the tool.
  5. Install the sensor housings with connecting cables into the obtained holes. If a foam damper is installed in the design of the machine, then it is necessary to carefully drill the part, the resulting channel is used to output the connecting cords. If the work is carried out on a removed plastic sheath, then the cables are laid along the inner surface to the entry point into the body.
  6. Fix the sensors using the mounting rings from the kit; letters are marked on the body of the parts to determine the purpose of the sensitive element. It is forbidden to swap elements in places, since the accuracy of the device is violated. On the back of the housing there are explanatory marks (eg arrows) indicating the correct position in the bumper.
  7. Route the cables from the sensors through the rubber sealing ring of the standard wiring or a plastic plug into the luggage compartment. If the input was carried out through a plug, then the entry point is sealed with a layer of sealant. Cables are pulled with a piece of rope or elastic wire.

On the market you can find a huge number of devices that make driving a vehicle easier. One of these can be called parking sensors. It is also called parking radar or sonar. The task of the parking sensors is to warn the driver about a possible obstacle in the dead zone of vision.

The principle of operation of the parking radar

  • Sensors installed in the bumper use ultrasonic waves to detect interference.
  • The wave is reflected from the obstacle and is picked up by the sensor.
  • The signal from the sensor is transmitted to the electronic control unit (ECU).
  • The electronic control unit processes the information and transmits it to the alarm device. The person behind the wheel receives an audible, visual or combined signal.

Which signal the driver receives depends on the model of the parking radar. Some parking sensors are equipped with a rear-view camera, and then the image from the camera can be displayed on a regular or additional LCD screen.

How to install parking sensors with your own hands

Some modern cars are factory equipped with a parking aid. This option can be ordered when buying a new car. But if this is not possible, then any technically knowledgeable car owner can install parking sensors with their own hands on a new or used car.

Before buying, it will be useful to study the materials of several automotive forums. They repeatedly discussed various models of parking sensors and the features of their installation on different cars. After analyzing the information, you can safely go to the store with auto products and choose the right device for yourself. When buying a parking sonar, pay attention to the completeness of the set. The installation kit includes:

  • 4 or 8 sensors (depending on the radar model);
  • electronic control unit (ECU);
  • cutter for drilling seats;
  • signaling device with an audible or visual signal;
  • wiring;
  • instructions with connection diagram.

Before buying parking sensors, carefully study the materials of automotive forums

The absence of instructions in the radar installation kit indicates the low quality of the device. Don't buy this parktronic!

Required tool

For a successful installation of parking sensors, you will need the following:

  • the parking sensors kit itself;
  • screwdriver;
  • insulating tape;
  • knife with replaceable blades;
  • kapron clamps.

The order of installation of parking sensors

When installing sensors, be careful. They must not look to the sky. In this position, they are unlikely to help the driver successfully park!

Many drivers install a control unit in the luggage compartment

  1. The control unit is usually placed in the luggage compartment. The place of installation is chosen by the owner of the car. Typically, the parking sensors ECU is located under the trunk lining on the rear wing.
  2. Lay the cable from the control unit to the signaling device. It is usually placed on the front panel in front of the driver or slightly to the side.
  3. Connect power to the control unit from the electrical circuit of the rear brake lights of the car. The power switch is usually located near the rear light.

Video example of installing parking sensors

If everything is connected correctly, then the parking radar does not need additional settings. The only thing that may be needed is a fine adjustment of the position of the sensor.

Some drivers are skeptical about parking sensors and consider them unnecessary devices. But the parking radar makes life much easier for the driver, especially if he is a beginner. Good parking on city streets.

On a car, it's a simple process. This article will describe in detail the entire installation process and provide useful tips.

Parktronic - what is it

To begin with, let's figure out what is parking sensors? After all, it may be that among motorists there are those who do not know about this system and have never heard of it. Some even have it on their car, but do not know how it works and what it is for.

What is it for

Parktronic is a wonderful device that helps to make parking a car much easier. Every year the number of cars in the world is growing. Russia is no exception, and especially Moscow, where the needle has nowhere to fall, so sometimes the traffic is dense. And in the midst of all this car chaos, you need to be able to properly park your car. And how will you do it if you have recently sat down?

For these needs, the parking sensors were invented, which the Russian driver quickly fell in love with. The fact is that our urban planning standards, according to which megalopolises and cities were built, are completely not designed for such a large number of cars. So you have to put them in the parking lots literally “nose to nose”, which excludes the opportunity for an insufficiently experienced driver or the same woman to park correctly. At such moments, the parking sensors come to the rescue.

Video about the work of parking sensors:

The principle of operation of the parking sensors

We figured out what the parking sensors do. Now about what such a system is. This is a fully electronic device that monitors the distance between surrounding objects and. If the distance becomes minimal, that is, critical and possible for a collision, the system sends a warning signal that allows the driver to react in time and correct the movement of the vehicle. That's all. Nothing complicated.

The electronic parking sensors system is simply crammed with all sorts of sensors that issue a warning. The greater the number of sensors on one car, the more accurate the parking sensors will work. Consider, what are the sensors, what is their design?

Parktronic sensors are ultrasonic devices. We can say that these are receiving-transmitting devices with a very sensitive design. The sensors consist of two parts, where one emits a signal, and the second one picks up the signal reflected from the object, sending it to the head unit.

As for calculating the distance to the object, it depends on the difference between the emitted and received signal. Pure mathematics. This device will not surprise the physicist, since this knowledge has been used for a long time. According to this principle, for example, military radars and traffic police speedometers work.

So. Parktronic consists of sensors, as mentioned above. And the more of them, the better. The number of sensors varies depending on the type of vehicle, its dimensions. The number of sensors depends on the experience of the driver.

Types of parking sensors

In addition, parking sensors come in different models. So, parktronics with forced inclusion are known. There are also permanent models. It is clear that such a model would be out of place in urban driving, where constant signaling of critical approaches can tire the driver. Therefore, it would be appropriate to use parking sensors with forced on and off.

As for the signal given by the system to the driver, then it can be different. The most common are audio signals, devices with a graphic scale and video monitors. And of course, the choice of monitor will depend on the skill and experience of the driver. Often, modern parking sensors combine several types of signal: sound + scale or video monitor.

A beep is better than nothing. But it is not suitable for novice drivers, since it can be very difficult to understand the distance to an object from a changing signal. And the type of object that the sensor signals is sometimes difficult to distinguish. Whether it's a curb, or a branch, or the bumper of an expensive jeep.

Here is a digital screen that gives the distance to a potential object in meters and is intended for those drivers who have an excellent eye and a sense of distance.

The graphic display is also good. It is more informative than a sound signal, and captures the obstacle, the distance to it and the approximate location. On the graphic scale-indicator, the change in distance can be clearly seen.

Well, and video parking sensors, showing on the screen not only an object that is on the course of movement, but even the trajectory itself. But an objective picture can only be seen when several sensors are installed on the car, and not just one.

And finally, modern models of parking sensors, which are endowed with high-tech features such as measuring the temperature of the outside air, human voice acting, and the like.

Front parking sensors and its installation

Why do you need front parking sensors? It turns out that by and large it is not needed, but it allows you to low objects, such as a flower bed or a road ledge.

The installation of the front parking sensors is carried out as follows: everything necessary is prepared and only then installed. First you need to deal with the wiring inside the car. It is generally recommended to use a twisted pair cable with a cross section of 0.2 mm. About 12 meters of wire will be enough. Of these, eight meters will only go from the trunk, where the unit will be installed, to the front right headlight. From here, two wires will go to the speaker and buttons: parking sensors and park assist. In addition, two more wires will go to the rear bumper, where there will be two more sensors.

In fact, two buttons: parking sensors and park assist - conditionally do not exist. You can put a regular button from the parking sensors or order a special one. You will also need to prepare the plugs for the buttons and the block, as well as the necessary contacts of the block and buttons. Do not forget about the speaker plug, various types of electrical tape and corrugation for twisted pair.

As for the parts that will go to the outside of the car, these are 12 sensors, including the rear parking sensors. Here it is worth knowing that the front side sensors are different from the rest (there are two of them). The brackets for the front side sensors are also different. Those who already have rear parking sensors on their car will only need eight sensors, not twelve.

You can take the wiring for the front bumper from the VW Touran. In fact, the wiring is designed for six sensors, but there is one caveat. In Turan, the front bumper wiring starts from the left headlight, and on some cars, such as, from the right. Although this does not matter much when you kick the plug in the bumper, knowing this nuance will come in handy when pinning out.

As for the rear bumper, two wires are added here and two plugs are installed to the side sensors. And of course, the installation of another parking sensors unit is mandatory.

Video about installing parking sensors:

We begin, in fact, the installation procedure itself. Both bumpers, headlights, trunk lining are removed. The dashboard, glove compartment, right fender liner are removed. It is recommended to do everything according to the scheme of the car.

The wires should be pulled along the left threshold of the car to the very dashboard, from where there are branches to the front speaker and buttons. Then we stretch further over the glove box to the plug in the body, located between the front door and the front right fender. A hole should be made in this plug, where to pack the twisted pair in the corrugation and stretch it further with the fender liner to the headlight.

It is desirable to wrap all the wires with a rag, and not with ordinary electrical tape, so that it is beautiful.

Installing parking sensors using a different method

Do-it-yourself installation of parking sensors can be done in another way. Consider the example of a not too expensive BEA 300 parking sensors, the price of which does not exceed 6,000 Russian rubles. By the way, this parking sensors seem to be specially created in order for him to. In addition to it, there are pads for sensors, which, to be honest, are not needed.

The installation of parking sensors of this type meant their installation in the bumper. This was stated in the instructions. And the installation should be carried out without any additional elements.

We arm ourselves with the necessary tools, which must include 20 mm cutters for cutting holes in the bumper plastic. By the way, the original cutter is very expensive and the price for it can reach as much as 1000 rubles. Therefore, you can use the analogy. A good milling cutter should not be driven to the side during operation, and the cut should be even.

The bumper cover is removed. After that, two “10” bolts are unscrewed from the trunk.

We proceed to unscrew the screws of the mudguards. We use the asterisk key for "6" for this purpose. Do not forget that several self-tapping screws fix the bumper from below.

After all the screws are found and unscrewed, you can proceed to remove the bumper. If problems arise and the bumper becomes stubborn, you can drop a little WD-40 into the landing spots of the clamps. After that, the bumper will definitely separate, and brute force is not an assistant here, because you can harm the bumper.

Now you should put the bumper with paint up and start making markings. You can stick masking tape on the places where the sensors are likely to be installed and measure the required distances. Above usually leave about 50 mm. The distance between the first and last sensor is 60 cm and between each of the sensors is 25 cm.

The center line of the bumper should pass right through the center sensor.

It is clear that the removed bumper is a rather unstable structure. And this forces him to lean against the door of a garage or other building, after placing pieces of rubber under the corners.

Now we carefully check all the markings and the centers of future holes with a prick with an awl and start drilling, preferably from the side of the paint. So that the plastic does not melt under the action of the cutter, you can pour water on it. And you will have to drill with a partner. One will drill and the other will pour water. The holes should be 18 mm, although more is possible, but then the sensor will enter with a gap.

We put the drilled bumper on a rag and lay the wiring. Thoroughly clean and dry the surface, after which we treat the places for gluing with liquid from the bubble. After that, we glue the sensors and pads under the screeds.

We install the bumper in place by first stretching the wiring harness into the hole specially prepared for this. We begin the installation of the control unit. And we connect the electrical circuit of the car to it.

It is advisable to install the tweeter closer to the driver's ears, and connect the power to the lamp. As for the wires from the tweeter, they can be pulled under the sills and bring the emitter to the left rack. It can also be glued in the standard way under the seat belt bracket.

Video on how to install parking sensors yourself:

We check the operation of the system, and if everything works, then it's time to start the car. We go to the obstacles and check the squeaker. Everything is working.

Like this. And nothing complicated. A little patience and everything will work out!

Every year more and more vehicles appear on the streets of cities. Along with this, a natural problem arises with the presence, or rather, the lack of parking spaces. Drivers are increasingly forced to "huddle", resulting in an increase in the number of road incidents. To avoid unpleasant situations allows a special device - parking sensors. This gadget is a parking radar that allows the driver to navigate while parking by telling him how many meters are left to the nearest object. The useful device is convenient and easy to use and is suitable for both experienced drivers and novice drivers.

The principle of operation of parking sensors is the same for any model of the device. First, sensors, which can be from 2 to 8, determine the location of the obstacle due to the ultrasonic signal. As soon as an object is detected, the wave returns to the sensor and, through the ECU (electronic control unit), transmits an audible, visual or complex signal about the risk of a collision to the driver. Some models have LCD displays, which are equipped with rear parking sensors with a video camera. Such devices are more expensive, but they allow you to see everything that happens behind the car, and also tell the driver which trajectory to move in order to fit into a narrow space.

The installation of parking sensors can be entrusted to a master from a car service, but if you want to save money, then you can install it yourself. This does not require any specialized equipment or special skills. So where to start?

What is required to install parking sensors

Before installation, you will need to prepare the following:

  • the parktronic himself;
  • cutter (it often comes with the device);
  • drill or screwdriver;
  • a set of keys;
  • marker, insulating tape or clamps, tester and tape measure.

Before you start drilling holes for the sensors of the purchased parking sensors model, make sure that the device is working. To do this, you need to connect the computer and sensors using wires. If the device emits an appropriate signal when approaching an obstacle, then everything is fine.

Also refer to the installation instructions for the product, as depending on the model of the machine or the device itself, you may need additional tools. After that, you can move on to practical work.

Installing rear parking sensors

First of all, you need to decide where you plan to install the ECU. Most car owners put these elements in the trunk of the car, but some prefer to place the control unit in a niche under the trim, dashboard or on the fender of the vehicle. There is not much difference, so choose the most convenient place, in your opinion.

As for the motion sensors, they are installed on the bumper of the car, which is better to wash thoroughly before installing the parking sensors.

After that, we move on to the next steps.

markup

On the washed and dried bumper, we make markings for the sensors. Let's say the parking sensors are equipped with 4 sensors (by the way, this is the optimal number). 2 elements must be spaced into the radius parts of the bumper, after that the distance between them must be divided into three equal segments for the remaining two sensors. If there are more sensors in the parking sensors, then the distance between the two extreme elements must be divided into more equal parts.

Advice! Marking is best done with a marker, as the pencil can be erased and you "miss". Marker marks are easily removed with alcohol, which does not harm the bumper paintwork.

If we talk about the height at which it is necessary to place the sensors, then 50 cm from the ground is considered optimal. But this parameter may differ depending on the selected model, so be sure to look at the instructions for the device.

holes

After you have checked the correct markings several times, you can proceed to drilling holes.

Important! Holes are drilled strictly perpendicular to the surface of the bumper. Sensors must "look" at the world in a horizontal position.

Using a cutter, carefully drill holes in the previously marked places. After that, install the sensors from the outside so that the sensors look outward and pass their wires inside the bumper. On the reverse side, the elements must be fixed with locking rings (included). If you are afraid that the parking sensors will pop out of the holes, you can play it safe with glue or silicone.

Advice! If the bumper of your car is equipped with an additional lining - a damper, then in order to insert the wires, use a wire, a nail or an awl.

Another important point is that the sensors must be installed in strict sequence (from left to right). For convenience, they are denoted by the letters A, B, C, D.

If the sensor differs from the bumper in color, then do not be afraid to repaint it. This will not affect the performance of the sensor in any way.

Installing the control unit

As mentioned earlier, the computer can be installed in the most convenient place for you. We will consider mounting the power supply in the trunk of a car. To do this, first of all, it is necessary to remove the trunk lining and wind the wires from all sensors together with electrical tape or clamps. After that, they need to be led under the bumper into the trunk through a special technological hole that you can drill yourself. Next, fill the wires with sealant to protect and fix them. After that, the bumper is installed in its rightful place.

Advice! The signal processing unit must be securely fixed to the surface (for example, with double-sided tape) so that it is not torn off by the load.

Wire connection

Connecting the parking sensors with your own hands is almost complete, it remains to power the computer from the reversing lamps, while observing the desired polarity. First of all, decide on the taillights and find the "plus", which is most often the red wire. If in doubt, use the tester.

There are two ways to connect wires:

  • Proven method "grandfather". To do this, remove the insulation from two wires and twist them together. Wrap the place of their connection tightly with insulating tape. The same must be done with the rest of the wires ("plus" and "minus").
  • A modern method for which special rivets are used. When they are compressed, a contact is created between the wires. In this case, you do not have to cut anything, as well as remove the insulation.

Put a rivet on the “positive” wire of the reversing lamp, and connect the wire from the power supply to the second hole. Using pliers, press in the jumper that runs through both wires, thereby creating the necessary contact between the two cables. After that, in the same way, connect each wire to the block, each connector of which will be marked accordingly.

Display installation

It is better to fix the display in the most convenient position for you. In this case, as well as for the ECU, you can use double-sided tape. If you choose to mount the display in the rear so that you can see it through the rear view mirror, be sure to mount it in the correct position as mirroring changes from right to left (D, B, C and A).

After that, secure the wiring with clamps or electrical tape and test the parking sensors. To do this, turn on the ignition. If the screen lights up, then you did everything right.

Installing the front parking sensors

If you coped with the installation of the rear sensors, then you will not have problems with how to connect the front parking sensors. The procedure is no different, as in this case, you will need to drill holes in the bumper and place the appropriate sensors in them.

The only difficulty is that the front sensors will always be on in traffic, so think about where to place the switch for them so you can always turn them off if necessary.

In custody

Parktronic is a very handy gadget that will protect your car from unforeseen damage. If during installation you have any difficulties, then the video installation of parking sensors will help you, where each step is clearly demonstrated.

Every year, many vehicles appear on modern city streets.

At the same time, the number of parking spaces for vehicles is not growing as actively, and vehicle drivers have to park more densely, which inevitably leads to an increase in the number of traffic accidents. Installing parking sensors will help to avoid an awkward situation. Parking Assist is a parking radar that helps drivers park their vehicles safely, no matter the conditions. This is especially useful for novice drivers, including those who are just learning how to park a vehicle in difficult city conditions.

Such solutions are divided into several types, therefore this article will also consider one of the most popular types - an ultrasonic radar. The principle of operation of the device is simple: special sensors are placed in the bumper of the vehicle that transmit and receive an acoustic signal. The device calculates the distance to the nearest obstacle based on the time it takes for the sound wave to travel from the sensor to this obstacle and bounce back. This is done at the expense of the constant speed of sound.

The driver is provided with a signal of a complex, visual or audible type. In some variations, liquid crystal screens are installed, which display the distance between the vehicle and the obstacle, as well as the position. As practice has shown, drivers perceive a sound type signal in the best way, but this is mostly an individual trait.

Do-it-yourself installation of parking sensors does not require any professional-level skills.

Almost any motorist will cope with this operation. All you need is drilled holes and properly connected wires. Most of the necessary tools can be found in the garage.

The parking radar kit mainly includes:

  • sensors "from two to eight pieces"
  • connection cables
  • screen
  • signal processing unit.

Installing parking sensors, the price is quite reasonable, some sellers even include installation work in the cost of the equipment in question. However, those who want to save money or just want to do everything themselves can use a variety of installation methods.

Equipment

In addition, a cutter for drilling holes for sensors and various little things as a bonus are included with some options. But if those are not presented in the kit, it is not so important, you can measure the dimensions of the sensor and buy a drill in a thematic store. But it is worth considering that the diameter of the cutter should not exceed the diameter of the sensor by one or two millimeters.

To install and connect the radar, you will need:

  • the radar itself
  • cutter for preparing holes for sensors “generally supplied as a kit”
  • drill
  • keys
  • measuring instruments, electrical insulating tape.

All vehicles have certain differences and in each case their own nuances, therefore, other things may be required, such as pliers, a soldering iron or a diagram of the electrical equipment of the vehicle.

This mounting option is universal, and is suitable for most machines. Sensors are mounted in the bumpers, which are connected to the control unit using wires. The screen of the device can be located both on the dashboard and at the end of the cabin, and it is also connected to the unit.

Mounting the rear radar

It is worth starting the installation of the system by drilling holes for the sensors. This stage is the most responsible procedure and therefore it is very important to do everything at the proper level. On certain models, the bumper can be left on, but for convenience, you can try.

First of all, they outline the places of the bumper, on which sensors will be installed in the future. In the radar instructions, you can see the basic installation requirements, such as the most suitable distance to the ground and between the sensors. These requirements are important to observe and consider before creating holes. Next, mounting-type adhesive tape is glued in those places where holes will be made, and the center of each hole is also marked.

Mounting the radar in the rear bumper

Just in case, it is worth double-checking the markings of each hole, because the mistake made will be corrected, then it will not work!

Using the cutter, we drill holes with the applied markings. It is important that the sensor after installation be directed horizontally, so the drilling must be perpendicular to the bumper.

Having finished with the stage described just above, they begin to place the sensors outward with wires inside the hole. Some vehicles have a damper, which means that you will need a wire or a nail to successfully place the wire. Having made a hole in the damper in advance, the nail is wound to the cable with the help of electrical insulating tape and pulled further inward.

Later, the sensor is inserted and fixed from the rear with specialized rings included in the package. It is important to place the sensors in the correct sequence. They are designated by the first four letters of the Latin order.

The sequence to be followed must be similar to the alphabetical sequence.

As a rule, the sensors are made in black or silver, and therefore, if necessary, their color can be adapted to the coloring of the bumper. This operation will in no way affect their performance and service life, and your vehicle will add beauty. Paint is selected visually, or with an accurate definition of color by selection on a computer.

Basically, the signal processing unit is installed in the luggage compartment, but it can also be mounted on the inside of the wing, or below the dashboard of the passenger compartment. We will study the most common option.

Installation will be carried out in the bumper and in the trunk. First of all, you need to empty the trunk and remove the trim. The wires from each sensor must be wound. This can be done with electrical insulating tape or by passing the wire through the corrugation.

It can be a good defense. The coiled wiring is carried out under the bumper into the trunk through the hole made. In the absence of the latter, a new one is drilled and, after pulling the wires, is filled with a sealed agent.

In the future, you need to decide on the installation location of the block that processes the signals.

This place must be safe enough for him, since the block can be torn off by the cargo being transported. They attach it to any surface with double-sided adhesive tape - simply by simply tearing off the film and attaching the block.

The radar will be activated when reverse gear is engaged. Therefore, at the end, you need to stock up on power from the reverse optics, observing the polarity. First of all, they get to the wires of the rear optics and determine the polarity. Basically, the wiring includes cable insulation coated in black or red. As a rule, the plus is isolated with red. If there are certain problems with this, you can resort to the tester.

Connect the wires in 2 ways:

Remove the insulation from the cables and twist them together. After the connection zone is tightly wrapped with electrical insulating tape. The procedure is repeated with each of the pairs of wires of different polarity.

Alternatively, rivets can be used, which, when compressed, realize the contact of the wires. This option is more practical, because you do not need to cut anything and remove the insulation. In some cases, rivets are supplied in the kit, but if they are not there, you can always buy them at the store.

Rear radar connection

A rivet is put on the wire with a plus from the reverse optics. The second of the holes is necessary to connect the wire to feed the unit. After that, a jumper is pressed in with pliers, piercing cables with different polarity and creating contact.

Having finished with the above procedures, proceed to connect the sensor unit, each wire connector is marked.

Now you need to think about where the display of the device will be placed. Basically, it is installed on the dashboard. But in some cases, it is installed in the rear area of \u200b\u200bthe cabin so that it does not fall into the rear-view mirror. As in the case of the block, it is attached to a flat surface with double-sided tape. Whichever location is chosen, the next step will be to connect to the signal processing unit.

It is important to note that for a successful installation of the display, it will be important whether the display hits the mirror. The reason lies in the fact that the information in the mirror is mirrored. In order for the correct information to be displayed through the mirror, you need to change the order of the connected wires, starting from A and ending with D.

The rear-mounted display does not require wires to be run throughout the cabin to the instrument panel. It is enough to stretch the wiring through the hole for the seat, and from there under the trim of the side and roof of the vehicle. At the front-mounted display, the wiring is located under the mats.

All wiring must be secured with electrical tape or clamps.

The same applies to extra pieces of wire. It may also turn out that in sunny weather the vehicle will start to warm up, and the block attached to the double-sided adhesive tape will slip. Upon completion of the installation work, the ignition is turned on, and then the reverse gear is selected so that the operation of the screen can be checked. If the display lights up, then all the work has been done correctly.

Installing the radar from the front

Front installation is done in the same way, but with some changes. In this case, it is necessary to pull the wiring through the hood to the interior of the vehicle, and from there to the trunk, where the processing unit is located. On certain models, the radiator grille and air inlet must be removed prior to installation work.

In the future, everything is done according to the instructions - holes for the front parking sensors are marked and made. A wire is needed to pull the wire under the bumper.

After that, the wiring is fastened with electrical insulating tape. With the help of a technological hole, the wire leads out the space under the hood. There are times when the washer fluid reservoir will interfere with the pulling of wires, so this element will need to be removed.

The wire from the sensor located on the left is best run from the side of the engine compartment, which is located below the battery. In order to stretch the remaining wiring, you can resort to a regular corrugation, if you have one. The cable is pulled into the cabin using a technological hole.

It is important to determine the method of activation of the front device. There are several ways:

Activation with a separate button. With this method, you will need to connect the front radar to the standard front panel button, or resort to installing a new button. This option is useful in that it allows you to use devices only when you really need it.

Activation during ignition. This method is more practical, because it does not require constant pressing of the button. You need to find the ignition wire. To do this, you need to carefully open the panel and find the desired wire using the tester. First of all, turn on the ignition and find a wire with a voltage of twelve volts. Then the ignition is turned off, after which the voltage will stop flowing to the wire.

Activation of the front radar with the brake pedal. In this case, power from the corresponding lamp will be required. The required wire is determined by means of the previously mentioned tester in a similar way.

And in the end, it will be necessary to bring the wiring through the vehicle interior to where the signal processing unit is installed. The wiring of the front radar is connected, starting from the information from the instructions, in a case similar to the rear radars. If necessary, you can see how the installation of parking sensors with your own hands video.

There are a number of reasons due to which the radar may be inoperative or fail after the installation work is completed. As an example, two popular cases are:

In the first paragraphs of the article, measures were recommended to check the device's performance before installing it on a vehicle. If it was operational before installation, you should check the status of each main node. Each component must be connected as indicated by the instructions supplied with the device in question. It is important to check whether the power was supplied in the right way. It is likely that the cause of the breakdown may be that the product is defective.

Computer diagnostics can be called the fastest and most reliable way to calculate the causes of a breakdown. This service is provided by many vehicle repair shops.

For the most part, the cause of the malfunction lies in the sensors, which should be paramount to pay attention to. One of the most common problems is the constant signal. The reason may lie in a foreign body that is placed on the sensor, or oxidation of the contacts and a short circuit.

Also, the sensors are sensitive to liquid, and therefore can give a false signal. Drying can solve this problem. In cold weather, the sensors may also lose sensitivity. But this does not affect their further performance.

All wiring must be secured with electrical tape. The same applies to extra pieces of wire. It may also turn out that in hot summer weather the car will heat up, and the block attached to the double-sided adhesive tape will slip.

As a result, it is worth noting that before leaving the road, it is important to check the device under different operating modes and with various obstacles, which will allow you to get an idea of in which situation the system gives a false signal and in which a real signal.
