The Swedish brand Gislaved, owned by the German tire auto giant Continental AG for a quarter of a century, is familiar to Russian motorists firsthand. After all, even at the beginning of the 2000s, Gislaved was almost the only company whose winter tires belonging to the middle price category competed almost on equal terms with Nokian premium tires, which traditionally occupy first places in various tests and ratings.

Access to the resources and technologies of Europe's largest tire manufacturer, Continental, allowed Gislaved to quickly take a strong position in the tire market, where the Swedes are particularly successful in the segment of tires designed for countries with severe winter climates, including Russia.

For the test, we took tires in the popular size 195/65 R15, which is used by most owners of golf-class cars.

One of the new products prepared by Gislaved for the winter season 2016-2017 is the Nord Frost 200 winter studded tire, which is produced for our market at the Continental plant in Kaluga. Unlike the previous three generations of the Nord Frost series, which are distinguished by a symmetrical tread pattern, the new 200th model received an asymmetric directional tread pattern. This strategy is not surprising, as this pattern proved successful in the design of the first generation ContiIceContact tire, which won many comparative tests.
The outer tread zone not only provides cornering stability, but is also responsible for directional stability and handling. The partially swept-back tread pattern in the midsection helps evacuate water and slush from the footprint, while the projector's inner section provides multi-surface traction and hydroplaning resistance.

Externally, it is almost impossible to distinguish between the tread pattern of the Gislaved Nord Frost 200 and the first generation Continental ContiIceContact tires.

The studs for the Gislaved Nord Frost 200 tire are produced by the Finnish company Tikka, also part of the Continental concern. The new innovative stud, called the Eco Tri-Star, has a three-pointed truncated star shape, the design of which includes an increased number of grip faces and edges, which, in turn, contribute to improved grip in any load vector. In addition, the Nord Frost 200 is equipped with significantly more studs than previous models, which improves acceleration and braking performance on ice.

We got tires in the popular size 195/65 R15 for testing, the average price of which in Russian online stores is about 5,500 rubles apiece. Unfortunately, we do not have special measuring instruments to conduct a detailed study, as some reputable publications do, so we will simply share our impressions.

I say right away that even with our harsh winters, I am not only not a supporter, but more of an opponent of the use of studded tires in the city, when most of the time I have to move on asphalt. In such conditions, friction tires have a number of undeniable advantages, including low noise level, better grip on asphalt and smooth running. But after the first few kilometers on Gislaved studs, I am ready to admit that the Nord Frost 200 tires are really very quiet. At first, one gets the feeling that you are not riding on spikes, but on an ordinary winter Velcro. The reduction in background noise is especially noticeable in comparison with the studded tires of a well-known manufacturer, which were on our experimental Ford Focus earlier.

The design of the Eco Tri-Star stud more efficiently removes snow crumbs at the moment the stud contacts ice.

Having covered all of Moscow with snow already in early November, winter did not take long to wait, so in order to feel all the advantages of winter tires, we no longer needed to wait for December frosts, however, in the first days after the installation of Gislaved, we still managed to catch good weather and together with a low noise level, the tires pleased with adequate reactions and predictable behavior on dry roads. On Nord Frost 200 tires, the car does not slip off the line in harmless corners, as is often the case with many studded tires. In addition, Ford Focus confidently clings to the road during acceleration and braking.

In all the same exercises - acceleration, braking, taxiing at speed - tires work well in conditions of snow rolling, as well as on ice. Thanks to the asymmetric pattern, the tread performs well in both directions. At the same time, tires with a directional tread are slightly better at removing water from the contact patch, so it is preferable when the roads are slushy and slushy. Therefore, in such conditions, the Gislaved Nord Frost 200 behaves a little less confidently.

Finally, one cannot fail to note the successful design of the spikes, which effectively bite into the ice, regardless of the motion vector. This is facilitated by a special design that allows more efficient removal of ice chips from the contact area of the tread block with the road, providing a tighter interaction of the stud carbide insert with the surface.

Gislaved Nord Frost 200 is offered in a wide range of sizes from 13" to 20". The average price of a tire with a dimension of 195/65 R15 is 5,500 rubles.

Summarizing the first acquaintance with the new tires Gislaved Nord Frost 200, we can say that the Swedes have a very worthy product. Among the advantages of this tire, I note the low noise level, confident grip on dry pavement and decent performance on snow and ice. Despite the fact that the tire design uses technologies applied by Continental a few years ago, and in measurements at the test site, the Nord Frost 200 tire is likely to be slightly inferior to the latest models from Nokian, Michelin or the same Continental, given the cost of the tire from "Gislaved", in terms of price-quality ratio, it is one of the best, which in the current economic realities can mean much more newfangled technological developments.

Gislaved Nord Frost 200 is a medium studded winter tire. The rubber has an asymmetric tread pattern.

It is designed for crossovers and passenger vehicles. Owner reviews and numerous tests speak of the good quality of the tires and their excellent performance.

Manufacturer Overview

ATTENTION! Found a completely simple way to reduce fuel consumption! Don't believe? An auto mechanic with 15 years of experience also did not believe until he tried it. And now he saves 35,000 rubles a year on gasoline!

Gislaved has been making tires since 1905. In early 2008, she became part of the Continental concern. For such a long period of rubber production, the company managed to gain the trust of car owners and tightly occupy its niche in the global market.

Gislaved designs tires in-house in its own R&D department. This allows you to bring innovation to each new model. Therefore, Gislaved rubber stands out with the use of advanced technologies, bypassing most competitors.

At all Gislaved enterprises there is a strict, multi-level quality control. Thanks to this, it is possible to almost completely exclude the entry of marriage into retail sales.

Winter tire quality and features

The special shape of the tread contributes to the rapid removal of water and snow slurry from the contact patch. Gislaved Nord Frost 200 has an asymmetric pattern that allows you to maintain stable grip regardless of the type of road surface.

To improve handling, three-dimensional stepped sipes are used on the inside of the tread. Outside there are sinusoidal lamellas. This combination contributes to good grip on asphalt, snow and ice.

There are special grooves around the spikes. They contribute to the removal of water and slush. As a result, the stud has the ability to more firmly cling to the road surface. Owner reviews note that these grooves are erased after a run of 10-25 thousand km.

The manufacturer has increased the number of spikes to 130. They are located mainly in the shoulder area. The spikes are made of aluminum alloy, so their weight does not exceed 1 g.

The spikes on the Nord Frost 200 are located in the shoulder blocks. To reduce the noise level, they are recessed inside the tread. This allows you to comfortably ride on dry asphalt even at high speeds. This innovation also has a negative side.

The spikes are arranged along several lines. When driving on snow, a tubercle comes up under the center of the tread during slipping. The tire is lifted off the road. Small spikes no longer reach the road surface. As a result, the machine loses its ability to move.

Despite the softness of the alloy used in the manufacture of spikes, they are very wear-resistant. Owners note that Nord Frost 200 winter tires can last several seasons without losing a single stud.

During the development of the Nord Frost 200 tires, special attention was paid to the rubber compound. It consists of silicon and high-strength polymers. This made it possible to minimize the dependence of tires on ambient temperature and increase their wear resistance.

According to the reviews of car owners, Nord Frost 200 tires perfectly resist damage. The wheels have increased strength of the sidewalls and the shoulder part of the tread. As a result, driving on bumpy roads or ruts rarely damages the rubber.

Dimensions

Nord Frost 200 tires are designed for passenger cars and crossovers. The company has a wide range of Nord Frost 200, which allows you to cover almost any wishes of car owners. See the table below for all Gislaved sizes.

Table - Overview of tire sizes

Nord Frost 200 has been repeatedly tested by independent experts. According to their results, the tires confidently occupy the middle positions. Below are diagrams by which you can evaluate the performance of Nord Frost 200 winter tires.

Advantages and disadvantages

Tires Nord Frost 200 have a number of advantages, but are not without drawbacks. The table below shows a selection of the main disadvantages and advantages of rubber according to the reviews of car owners and expert opinions.

Purchase feasibility

The shape, size and location of the studs allow the vehicle to drive at high speed on hard pavement. The disadvantage of this technical solution is the risk of slippage on snow and ice. Therefore, tires should not be purchased when operating the car in places with a large cover of snow and ice. If the car will drive mainly on urban cleared roads, then the expediency in acquiring Nord Frost 200 is very high.

Over the past winter, I have developed the skill of immaculate withdrawal of the car from a skid. Frankly, it is absolutely not worth the spent nerves and scratches on the case. So in the fall, I very meticulously chose the tires of my dreams to replace the pieces of rubber that had lost all contact with reality. Gislaved Nord*Frost 200, manufactured by a subsidiary of Continental, may not seem like the most obvious option to some. Swedish brand, German concern, Russian production. Appeared on the market only this year and did not have time to gain a large number of fans. Nevertheless, the reviews on the Web were present and allowed us to conclude that for its reasonable price it would be an excellent option for the Russian winter.

First of all, this fact was hinted at by their relationship with ContiIceContact tires, the absolute hit of Continental in 2010. Unlike the symmetrical predecessors of Nord*Frost, the 200th “model” borrowed from the ContiIceContact a complex asymmetric pattern with an increased number of cutting edges, which significantly increase the machine’s confidence on ice and on snow of varying degrees of compaction. A cunning network of drainage grooves and dense siping promised to reliably maintain grip on wet pavement and in slush. In addition, thanks to the rubber composition with a high content of silica and proprietary polymers, they are well tolerated by sudden temperature changes and severe frosts. Plus, they feature the innovative Eco-Tri Star studs in the shape of a truncated three-pointed star, each weighing less than a gram, but showing tenacity at the right time.

As a conscientious driver, I changed my shoes in advance and managed to roll five thousand kilometers before more or less permanent snow fell. On asphalt, the Nord*Frost 200 was first of all pleased with its low noise level. And with knurled kilometers it only became quieter. In the rain, the tires reliably held the road, and the extreme sport - hydroplaning - did not happen. The number of lost spikes is zero.

Finally, the Samara roads were covered with snow, and the real tests began. My Škoda has become noticeably better to obey when cornering in any direction. Getting ahead on the winter track has ceased to be a risky luxury, for once it has become a common maneuver. On the icy road, the braking distance was noticeably shorter, thanks to which I could afford to move around the city faster. In a rut - as in a rut, the steering wheel has to be held tighter. But the intricate tread pattern was clearly borrowed by the “Gislaveds” for good reason - the tires cleared the snowy porridge confidently. I usually don’t climb into snowdrifts in my car, but every day I continue to get out of the freshly filled parking lot near the house without any problems.

However, I must warn you that in difficult circumstances, ideal behavior from the Nord*Frost 200 is still not to be expected. Let them have significantly more studs than the previous model, let each stud surround a “pocket” for effective removal of ice chips, and as a result, traction and braking performance is improved by six percent. But this, alas, is not enough when you are driving on ice covered with snow. Here you have to act carefully and smoothly. Am I willing to put up with this? Undoubtedly. Because tires that are guaranteed to perform better in the same conditions will cost twice as much. And yet, no matter how you scold the Samara roads and city services, the neglected sections I named are mainly found in separate yards. Maneuvering them on the Fabia with its dimensions was quite elegant. Maybe on larger cars it would be more difficult.

I can’t talk about the high abrasion resistance announced by Gislaved, but the studs are still in place and there are no signs of rapid wear. A couple of times in the reviews I met a comparison with Velcro, but this comparison seems to me correct only if we are talking about a low noise level. The Gislaved Nord*Frost 200 proved to be a solid winter tire, close in quality to the premium price segment and, no doubt, worth the money spent.

Tires Gislaved Nord Frost 200

Gislaved Nord Frost 200 is a medium studded winter tire with an asymmetric tread pattern for passenger cars and crossovers.

Country of manufacture: Portugal.

Gislaved Nord Frost 200 test by Finnish Test World, conducted in 2016

In 2016 experts of the Finnish organization Test World have tested the Gislaved Nord Frost 200 studded winter tire at size 205/55 R16 and compared it with budget, medium and premium tyres.

In total, 21 tires took part in the test, among which were similar studded models, Nordic friction tires and one “European”.

Test results

The Gislaved Nord Frost 200 placed seventh overall in the test.

The tire showed a low noise level, a short braking distance on wet pavement and snow, as well as an average result on a dry surface. On ice, the tire generally performed well, but its braking distance and handling were worse than similar spikes.

Feedback from experts who conducted the test:

Compared to the previous model, the number of studs on the Gislaved Nord Frost 200 has been increased to 130 pieces, generally providing good grip on ice, but the braking distance could be shorter. On snow, the tire reacts sluggishly to steering, and this is especially evident at speed when performing extreme maneuvers. On the pavement, however, the Gislaved did an excellent job, and one can even say that it is better than other studs for asphalt. At the same time, it turned out to be a fairly quiet and economical tire.

Gislaved Nord*Frost 200 | Tire overview at Shina Guide

Photo and description

Gislaved Nord*Frost 200 is an asymmetric winter tire designed for use in harsh winter conditions, which features excellent traction and lateral stability on ice and packed snow, steering precision and stability, as well as optimized handling on asphalt.

Tires Gislaved Nord*Frost 200 (Gislaved Nord Frost 200), introduced in 2015, are designed to tame the elements of winter with all its weather surprises. When it was created, the developers of Continental (and as you know, the German company “crushed” the Swedish brand for itself in the early nineties of the last century) decided to follow the proven path.

They awarded the 200th model with a tread pattern very much reminiscent of the design of the 2010 tire, Continental ContiIceContact, which was highly appreciated not only by Ukrainian and Russian testing organizations, but also by independent experts from the Nordic countries.

The asymmetric tread pattern of Gislaved Nord*Frost 200 significantly improves the grip and handling characteristics of the tire on any surface. The central part of the tread consists of polygonal blocks with various shapes, notes a Shina.Guide technical specialist. This engineering solution has led to a significant increase in the cutting edges, providing reliable contact with icy and snowy surfaces.

The multidirectional working edges increase the grip and stability of the NordFrost 200 both in the longitudinal and transverse directions.

Dense siping of the tread blocks with three-dimensional and wavy sipes enhances the interaction of the tire with ice and snow during start-up and braking, as well as when maneuvering at high speed.

A dense network of wide drainage grooves intersecting each other at different angles prevents the tire tread from clogging with snow and contributes to the effective removal of water and melted snow from the contact patch. As a result, Gislaved Nord Frost 200 tires not only resist hydroplaning and slashplaning well, but also behave confidently on slushy snow and wet pavement.

Optimal distribution of contact pressure between the tire and the ice provides maximum grip, as well as efficient braking Nord*Frost 200 and a high level of comfort.

The special rubber compound of the tire maintains an ideal balance between stiffness and elasticity of the tread during temperature changes, and also guarantees the high performance of the Gislaved Nord Frost 200 on winter surfaces throughout its entire service life.

For milder winter conditions, Swedish tire manufacturers recommend using the Gislaved Soft*Frost 200 model.

Winter Apocalypse: Continental tests WinterContact SI, Gislaved Nord*Frost 200 and General Tire Grabber Arctic tires

When we buy a car, we usually sign up for a test drive of various models in order to eventually find the one that suits us best.

The same thing happens when we choose a TV or tablet, that is, we usually have the opportunity to check the performance of the desired object before buying.

In the case of tires, this rule is much more difficult to implement. Almost none of the sellers will agree to install tires on the wheels of your car before you ask to offer tires of a different model, and it is quite possible that more than once. That's why we buy tires sometimes at random. And suddenly you are lucky and they will meet our needs and expectations as much as possible.

To help resellers looking to improve their offering, Continental conducts annual winter testing for its new products. The event compares the tires of the "empire" Continental with their direct competitors, notes a technical specialist Shina.Guide. This year, Continental Tire spent its winter apocalypse in the town of Mirabell, Quebec, Canada.

Three new models were introduced in 2015: General Tire Grabber Arctic, Gislaved Nord*Frost 200 and Continental WinterContact SI, which we wrote about earlier. It would be illogical for a manufacturing company to create products that compete with each other, so each tire is focused on a certain part of the market.

General Tire Grabber Arctic is a special design for light trucks and large SUVs with a minimum mounting dimension of 245/75 R16. The Continental WinterContact SI tires will fit mid-size SUVs and large off-road vehicles, while the Gislaved Nord*Frost 200 tires are designed for medium and compact vehicles.

In the light of the experience gained during the test drive, the participants noted that all three new Gislaved, Continental and General Tire tires will be ideal companions for quite severe winter conditions, regardless of the brand of car. The new models allow you to maneuver more confidently than comparable tires and show shorter braking distances. Although we are talking about only 2-3 meters. The difference is certainly small, but in an emergency it can change everything ...

Gislaved Nord Frost 200 - tires for Scandinavian frosts

The Gislaved Nord Frost 200 is the successor to one of the most popular winter tyres.

Despite the fact that the Swedish tire brand Gislaved can hardly be called popular in Russia, its products are in stable demand. In confirmation of this, the Swedes have brought to the market a new product - the successor to one of their most successful winter tire models - Nord Frost 200.

From this article you will learn:

Model overview

The model belongs to the type of winter studded tires. The public was shown on September 3, 2016. On the market are presented in dimensions from R13 to R19. The permissible tire width varies from 155 to 255 millimeters, and the profile height varies from 40 to 70.

The Swedish brand is part of the group of companies of the German concern Continental and is positioned in the middle price category.

The design of the tires can be called pretty, but nothing more - only the original patterns on the sidewalls and on the lamellas of the shoulder areas attract attention. But, looking closely at the tread, you can see its significant depth and emphasis under snowy roads. Regarding the Nord Frost 100, the 200th model has undergone changes in the composition of rubber and studding.

The new rubber compound is more pliable to the touch and yet resilient enough to improve grip on winter roads, while the studs are made using Eco Tri-Star technology (component supplier Tikka) and are integrated into the Nord Frost 200 in the amount of 130 pieces (the predecessor had only 100).

According to the manufacturer, these tires can now compete on equal terms even with tires from brands from the first echelon. In particular, compared to the previous Nord Frost 100 series, grip and braking on winter roads improved by 3 to 6 percent, and on asphalt by 2 percent.

Strengths

Gislaved Nord Frost 200s are traditionally good on snowy roads. The tires demonstrate clear and precise steering responses, excellent lateral grip, good traction, as well as high braking performance.

On ice, one can note a confident and smooth start from a standstill and a minimum of slippage when picking up speed. On wet pavement, braking performance is traditionally high, as is directional stability in a straight line. The smoothness of the ride is acceptable even on pronounced bumps.

Flaws

There are minor comments regarding lateral grip on the ice cover - drifts are sometimes unexpected and difficult to control. Cross-country ability in deep snow is not bad, but you expect more from such an aggressive tread - with active regassing, the tires are heavily buried.

On dry pavement, there is slow steering response and not the best braking performance. Other weaknesses are a strong rumble and high rolling resistance, which is bad for fuel consumption.

What are users saying?

Gislaved Nord Frost 200 appeared on the market quite recently, so car enthusiasts treat these tires with caution, although they remember how efficient the Nord Frost 100 was in terms of performance. Those who have purchased these studded tires note the pleasant stud shape and the softness of the rubber compound as well as reasonable cost.

Gislaved is a Swedish tire brand. Founded back in 1893 in the town of the same name Gislaved. It was able to realize itself most fully in the automotive sector starting only in 1927, and until that time the plant produced tires for bicycles.

By the 1960s, Gislaved reached the peak of its popularity in Western Europe and produced about one million tires a year. At the same time, now the company produces about three million tires. Gislaved specializes mainly in winter tires.

In 1983 the company became known as Gislaved Dack AB. A little later, in 1987, this division merged with another tire brand, Viking Deck A / S Tires, and together they form Nivis Tire AB.

However, the union was not destined to hold out for a long time and already in 1992, this production association becomes the property of Continental AG. From that moment to our time, it is Continental that produces Gislaved tires, while tires are manufactured in different countries, and the last tire from Sweden rolled off the assembly line back in 2002.

studded winter tire Gislaved Nord Frost 200

Continental Premiere: Gislaved Nord Frost 200 Studded Winter Tire

Gislaved Nord Frost 200 is the ultimate grip on ice Excellent handling on all surfaces and improved tire wear is achieved by optimized tread pattern stiffness New high-tech Eco Tri-Star stud in greater quantity for increased safety and better grip on ice Innovative rubber compound

Continental presents the new Gislaved Nord Frost 200 studded tire from a sister brand that specializes in uncompromising models for harsh winter conditions (http://licsp.ru/specialization/gynecology/).

The evolution of the tread pattern

Three previous generations of the Nord Frost model, which were very popular in the Russian market, used a symmetrical V-shaped tread. The new Gislaved Nord Frost 200 tire is equipped with an asymmetric directional tread pattern - a solution that has proven its effectiveness in the concern's premium models and is now introduced in the middle price segment.

The outer part of the tread is mainly responsible for handling and directional stability, and also provides cornering stability. The inner section works for grip on all sections of the winter road and hydroplaning resistance. Both parts are equipped with developed shoulder blocks with sharp edges, which increase flotation in deep snow and ruts.

The directional tread design forms a "semi-arrow" pattern in the central part, which provides improved water and slush removal from the contact patch.

An increased number of multi-directional blocks with multiple lamellas form multiple gripping edges. All lamellas have walls with interpenetrating elements, which ensures the rigidity of the blocks in motion. Serrated sipes predominate on the outer side of the tread, and stepped microgrooves on the inner side. Together, the combination of blocks and sipes guarantees reliable grip in any position of the steering wheel.

On all types of winter roads, the new tread provides precise handling and stable directional stability, as well as confident cornering.

Spike Eco Tri-Star

Continental has vast experience in using complex stud shapes to optimize traction in any load vector. The Gislaved Nord Frost 200 tire is equipped with the new innovative Eco Tri-Star stud manufactured by Tikka, Finland Spikes OY, a Continental concern.

The spike is equipped with a carbide directional tip, which has the shape of a three-beam star with truncated tops and has many sharp coupling faces and edges, as well as a faceted tip. This design provides increased grip in any distribution of forces during acceleration, braking, cornering, the risk of skidding or drifting.

The double-flange design of the stud body provides a secure and durable fit in the tread, while the low weight (less than 1.0 g) reduces the load on the roadway. This made it possible to equip the Gislaved Nord Frost 200 tire with a significantly larger number of studs than in the previous model, increasing traction and braking performance on ice by 6%, while reducing road wear.

There are special “pockets” around the stud seat in the tread that absorb and immediately remove ice chips, continuously cleaning the working edges of the stud even under increased load, for example, during heavy braking.

Innovative rubber compound

The Gislaved Nord Frost 200 tire is designed for operation in a wide temperature range, including the most severe frosts. That's why the tread includes a high-tech rubber compound with a high content of silica and branded polymers. This allows you to maintain elasticity at low temperatures and rigidity, along with abrasion resistance when thawed.

Spike-02 retained the V-shaped directional tread pattern, but changed the shape of the cross grooves, plus increased the number of sipes. All this allows you to more effectively remove the snow-water porridge from the contact patch, and this makes it possible to confidently drive the car on a snowy road. Improved and rubber compound. According to the Japanese, now the tire does not tan at low temperatures, its wear resistance is increased by 30%.

The tire is produced in 30 sizes. Landing diameter - from 13 to 18 inches.

Friction tires Goodyear and Fulda

In Europe, sales of the new Goodyear UltraGrip Performance SUV Gen-1 tires began in May of this year. Soon they will appear with us. The novelty, in fact, is a Goodyear UltraGrip Performance Gen-1 passenger tire adapted for crossovers, which was put into mass production last year.

The passenger tire received a lot of positive feedback, in particular, it was highly appreciated by experts from TÜV SÜD Product Service GmbH. It can be assumed that the tire for crossovers will also be successful.

By the way, this is not the only novelty of the manufacturer. Fulda, owned by GoodYear, showed off the Kristall Control HP2. Recall that Americans sell more budget tires under this brand.

These tires have replaced the Kristall Control HP, which appeared in 2010. The tread pattern is tricky. In its central part, there is a kind of network consisting of many grooves. This "network" keeps the snow in the contact patch, thereby improving the traction of the tire.

The rubber compound has been improved. Now it is even more resistant to low temperatures and the tire does not tan in severe frost, thereby ensuring good handling. The composition also includes silica (silicon dioxide). It improves traction on wet roads.

Dunlop for crossovers

The tire has a new ultra-light stud with a triangular shaped carbide insert. However, it makes no sense to talk in detail about technology. Most of them are already known to us from Conti models. Since it is a premium brand, the latest developments are first used in Continental tires and only then are mastered by brands for more budget segments.

The line includes 64 sizes designed for cars and crossovers.

Continental

There is no news yet about the novelties of the eminent manufacturer. But the concern has already released some "new clothes" under its sub-brands, "playing" in more budget segments. We have already talked about Gislaved, and here is another new model - the budget novelty Matador MP 30 Sibir Ice 2.

Compared to its predecessor Matador Sibir Ice, the tire has a reinforced carcass, and rigid blocks in the shoulder areas of the tread provide good directional stability during maneuvers. Spikes - aluminum with a hard-alloy insert. The "nails" are arranged in such a way that the wear of the spikes and the tread is uniform. That is, the risk of spikes falling out is reduced. The resource of the tire has also increased.

In total, 21 sizes are available with a bore diameter from 13 to 17 inches.

All-season tires and Velcro from Yokohama

The company introduces updated Geolandar G015 all-season tires and IceGuard Studless G075 Velcro.

Yokohama Geolandar G015 is designed for SUVs and pickups. The cover has been radically updated. A new tread pattern has appeared, the strength of the sidewalls has been increased, the composition of the rubber compound has been redesigned. An icon of a snowy three-mountain peak appeared on the sidewall. This suggests that now the tire can also be used in winter - the rubber does not tan, retaining elasticity even at low temperatures. According to the company representatives, these tires can be used all year round. Even when the temperature rises above 20 degrees Celsius. The novelty is presented in 64 standard sizes.

Tires IceGuard Studless G075 are designed for crossovers and SUVs.

The G075 has a directional tread pattern and the rubber compound absorbs water like a sponge. The original moisture-absorbing composition of the mixture removes the water film from the contact patch, improving the braking properties of the tire. In total, the G075 line has 18 sizes from 16 to 18 inches. Profile: 55–70.

Kumho

South Korean Kumho has introduced a studded tire Kumho WinterCraft SUV ice WS31 for crossovers. It was created on the basis of a purely passenger car tire Kumho Wi31. The tread patterns are almost identical, so the relationship is immediately visible.

Under the specifics of SUV cars, the novelty has increased the rigidity of the blocks in the tread pattern. Improved handling and braking on ice. Engineers have also worked on optimizing the shape of the drainage grooves. This, in turn, helped improve the tire's slush handling and increased hydroplaning resistance.

Another novelty of the manufacturer is Kumho WinterCraft WP71. These "Velcro" play in the premium segment. The Koreans promise excellent grip and handling on wet and dry roads, as well as on snow. Due to the directional pattern and a large number of sipes, the tires “row” well in loose snow. Available in 42 sizes from 225/50 R16 to 245/45 R19.

Nokian

The majority equals the Finnish tire manufacturers. They are one of the recognized leaders, therefore there is always a special interest in their new products. So, for this winter, Nokian has prepared a non-studded model WR A4, which will replace the WR A3.

The tire has an asymmetric tread design, and a number of changes have been made to the design to improve performance. The rubber compound with silica is called Performance Traction Silica. In addition to natural rubber, it contains canola oil, which provides reliable grip in winter conditions. This compound also increases the wear resistance of the tire and improves stability when driving on snow.

The technology of the so-called "snow claws" was also applied: on the longitudinal ribs of the tread lamellas, the edges are made sharp. They also provide additional grip on a snowy road.

Michelin and Kleber

It is still unknown what the company will show under its main, premium brand. But for products aimed at the mid-price segment, there is clarity. The first is the BFGoodrich g-Force Winter 2, a directional tire designed for a wide range of passenger cars.
