Step 1
Slightly unscrew the two screws that secure the power steering device and loosen the other bolt (adjusting) as much as possible.

We move it as close as possible to the cylinder block, at the same time we try to remove the belt. We do the same with the generator, first loosening the adjusting bolt.

Step 3
The timing cover is fixed with 5 bolts.

We need a 5 mm hexagon, unscrew and remove.

We take a head of 17 mm. We rest it for immobility to the shaft, unscrew a few bolts that hold the pulley. We take it out.

Step 6
Below we see the cover hiding part of the mechanism. It is attached with five 10mm bolts. We take the appropriate tool and unscrew it.

Step 7
If there are still no marks, we make two marks parallel to each other on the camshaft, two in the upper part, then next to the belt at the tooth and on the belt itself.

We do this procedure with another shaft, marking the block and pulley with a mark, and the other with the belt tooth.

Step 8
We remove the stroke and tension roller together with the worn belt.

Step 9
Rollers must be supplied with the belt. We install them, put the mounting bolt and tighten with a good effort.

Step 10
We make a designation on the belt in an arbitrary place. We take a worn belt and determine the number of teeth between the designations. We take a new belt and designate another mark through the corresponding number of teeth. To check, we apply two belts in parallel - if the marks match, feel free to put it in place, combining the rest in the correct order.

Step 11
The bolt, thanks to which the roller is attached, is not tightened until the alignment of the marks on the purchased belt is adjusted.

After matching the designations, use the appropriate key to turn the crankshaft two full times. The valves must not come into contact with the pistons (this will not happen if the marks were marked correctly). Their position changes as a result of the mismatch of the teeth on the crankshaft and camshaft. We don’t look at this - the main thing is that the marks between the block and the asterisks of both mechanisms match.

If everything matches, we collect the necessary elements in the reverse order, and then start the car. Remember to replace the belt every 40,000 kilometers. Some timing, when assembling the motor, is finalized with a file to the required landing shape.

  • Open the engine compartment, loosen the power steering bolts, completely unscrew the adjusting screw.
  • Next, move the power steering pump as close as possible to the cylinder block, remove the belt.

  • After that, access to the protective cover of the timing mechanism opens. It is fixed with 5 bolts, which should be unscrewed, the cover is removed.

  • The next step is to remove the pulleys on the crankshaft of the motor. To do this, with a head on “17”, they keep it from turning, six fastener bolts are unscrewed.

Mounting marks

Car manufacturers do not apply installation marks in the timing mechanism drive, repairmen have to mark them on their own. This can be done in this way:

  1. First of all, the middle part of the camshaft pulleys is marked with white paint in the place where the teeth of both pulleys are located side by side. Next, mark in the upper part with marks both the belt on each pulley and the teeth opposite the marks. The same procedure is performed on the crankshaft pulley. The mark is placed on the pulley and block, the second on the belt.
  2. Remove the worn part along with the rollers.
  3. Next, the worn belt is combined with a new spare part, all marks are transferred to the new product.
  4. The new drive is put on the marks on the belt, camshaft pulleys, crankshaft. They bypass the rollers, pump, pull the drive. The correctness of the tension will be indicated by the coincidence of the tension roller marks.

After tightening the fixing bolt of the tension roller, turn the engine crankshaft two turns, if the marks match, you can continue to assemble everything in the reverse order.

Replacement terms

Manufacturers of Chery Indias recommend replacing the toothed belt in the timing mechanism drive with a mileage of no more than 50 thousand km. Most owners carry out this operation a little earlier, with a mileage of 40 thousand km, there are reasons for this. Most often, the quality of spare parts for completing power units suffers. Then we move the generator to the block and remove the strap.

We turn off five bolts with a hexagon on 5 of the upper timing cover and remove it.

Looking at the camshaft pulleys, we make sure that there are no marks.

Holding the head on the 17 crankshaft, unscrew the six screws securing the crankshaft pulley and remove it.

We unscrew the five bolts HB 10 securing the lower timing cover.

And now the most interesting.

We put our labels. On the camshaft pulleys, two opposite each other and two at the top, opposite the belt tooth and on the belt.

We do the same with the crankshaft, one mark on the pulley and block, and the second on the belt tooth.

We unscrew the tension and bypass roller and remove them together with the old timing belt.

We install new rollers, do not tighten the tension bolt.

We put a mark on the new belt in front of any tooth. On the old one, we count the number of teeth between the camshaft marks and after the same number we put the second mark on the new timing belt. After we count the number of teeth between the right camshaft mark and the crankshaft mark, and put another mark on the new belt at the same distance. If you attach two belts to each other, the marks should match. We put the new one in place, combining all the marks, and flow in the same direction.

Tension the belt with a hexagon counterclockwise until the arrow on the tension roller matches the mark and tighten the roller mounting bolt.

We check the coincidence of all labels. We turn the crankshaft two turns and if the valves did not meet the pistons, and this will not happen if you did everything carefully, we check the marks again. The tags on the belt will go to the side, due to the fact that the number of teeth on the crankshaft sprockets is two times less than the camshaft and several times less than on the belt, we do not pay attention to them. We look at the coincidence of the marks between the camshaft sprockets and the crankshaft sprocket and block.

After making sure that everything coincided, we install all the parts in the reverse order of removal. We start the car and forget about replacing the timing for another forty thousand.
