Price: from 3,150,000 rubles.

Today we will discuss a new generation of a wonderful and well-known car - this is the Mercedes-Benz E-Class 2018-2019 in the back of the W213. This is a new car that has received not so many differences compared to the previous version.

Appearance

The car received a more modern design, but unfortunately it does not differ much from the previous model. A truly versed motorist can distinguish. Since show-offs are loved in our country, this model most likely will not use a large spore, because it does not stand out and it will not work.

The muzzle has a long embossed hood, which is reduced to a large, fully chrome-plated radiator grille, which has three also chrome-plated jumpers. On the hood there is a company logo of the car on the leg. The optics here are small, the good news is that it is xenon and has LED daytime running lights. The really massive bumper received large air intakes that are designed to cool the front brakes with air. The air intake has a chrome trim at the top.

The side of the E-Class 2019 can be called a style icon, because on the one hand everything is done simply, but on the other it looks really stylish. Slightly swollen sloping wheel arches, chrome window surrounds and bottom insert. All this is emphasized by the aerodynamic line in the upper part, but it is almost imperceptible. In the base, the car has 17 wheels, but if you wish, you can install as many as 20 wheels.

Behind the car has a small LED optics with a beautiful structure. The trunk lid has smooth shapes, a chrome insert and its shape forms a small spoiler at the top. The massive bumper received thin reflectors, an aluminum insert at the bottom and chrome nozzles for the exhaust system.

The dimensions of the body have also been changed:

  • length - 4923 mm;
  • width - 1852 mm;
  • height - 1468 mm;
  • wheelbase - 2939 mm.

Also, those who wish can purchase a station wagon car, and an off-road version of the All-Terrain is also offered.

Petrol 3.5 l 333 HP 480 H*m 5.2 sec. 250 km/h V6

The new generation received a large line of power units, 6 motors are available to Russian buyers, and the entire line has 10 engines. All motors received a turbine, they are quite powerful and relatively economical. Also, the units comply with Euro-6 standards, which means that speed lovers will be able to change the firmware and get more power without harming reliability.

Petrol

  1. The base engine, related to the 200 version, is a 2-liter engine from which 184 horses and 300 units of torque were squeezed out. Already the base model will accelerate to hundreds in 7.7 seconds, and the maximum speed will be 240 km / h. Regarding fuel consumption, it is small, only 8 liters of 95th gasoline within the city.
  2. The second engine of the 2018-2019 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is more powerful, although the volume is the same. A return of 245 horses and 370 units of torque is enough for the car to accelerate to the first hundred in 6 seconds, some charged hatchbacks show such dynamics. Fuel consumption will be slightly higher - more specifically by 1 liter.
  3. The most powerful representative of gasoline engines has a volume of 3.3 liters and belongs to the 400 4Matic version. Now it's a V6 with 333 horsepower. The unit, as you already understood, works together with the 4Matic family all-wheel drive system, which allows you to start up to a hundred in 5 seconds. Power certainly affected the consumption, approximately 11 liters are needed for a quiet city ride for every 100 kilometers.

Diesel engines Mercedes-Benz E-Class

  1. The simplest diesel engine with a volume of 2 liters produces 150 horses. Low power, but if you need a quiet economical engine, then this one will suit you perfectly. 8 seconds of acceleration to a hundred and some 5 liters of diesel fuel within the city for 100 km.
  2. If you like to save money, but want to go a little faster, then there is another modification for you. It has the same volume, but the power in it is 195 horsepower, with which acceleration already takes 7.3 seconds. Fuel consumption remains the same.

The final motor of the line is a hybrid one. In Russia, they are little preferred, but there is a small demand. A two-liter unit paired with an electric motor produces 211 horsepower, allowing the sedan to accelerate in 6 seconds to 100 km / h. The motor is ideal for those who like to save fuel; in the combined cycle, the consumption does not exceed 3 liters of gasoline.

The connecting link between the engines and the wheels is a 9-speed 9G-Tronic automatic transmission, which transmits all the torque to the rear axle. But as you already understood, there are all-wheel drive versions equipped with a proprietary all-wheel drive system.

The suspension for the buyer of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class 2018-2019 is offered differently, there are 4 types in total. The choice depends on your driving style, Comfort conveys its essence with its name. The Comfortable Avantgarde and Sport are stiffer, with 15mm less ground clearance. Fans of maximum comfort are offered pneumatic running Air Body Control. The latest suspension adjusts the stiffness of the chassis to the driving style, speed and road.

Salon

The interior of the car has also been changed, it has become more beautiful and modern. There is a lot of free space in it, leather chairs with electric adjustment and a comfortable fit will please you in front. The back row is designed for three people, there is also a lot of space, also leather seats and in general a beautiful design.

The center console has two connected large displays, one of them works as a dashboard, and the second is designed for multimedia and navigation. The right screen is touch-sensitive, under it there are round air deflectors. Below is a horizontally designed separate climate control control unit. Then the console gradually moves to the tunnel, there is a large niche for small things, a multimedia control unit with a touchpad and a washer, as well as cup holders and much more.

The driver's seat of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class 2018 has a stylish 3-spoke steering wheel, on which the multimedia system controls are duplicated. The steering wheel itself is adjustable in height and reach, and behind it is the dashboard. The tidy can either be a screen in expensive versions, or have two large dial gauges and a large on-board computer in the middle.

The driver and passengers can enjoy great music in this car with 23 speakers that give out just great sound. Trunk volume here, in principle, is not bad, its volume is 540 liters. In the wagon, of course, it is more.

  • circular review;
  • collision protection and so on.

In the end, I would like to say that the 2018-2019 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is a chic sedan that will allow the owner to enjoy comfort and, if desired, a relatively fast ride. It really looks beautiful and plus it has a wonderful ergonomic interior. We believe that if there is an opportunity and you like the model, then you should take it without hesitation.

Video

The appearance of the car conveys its ambition and sportiness due to the vertical head optics, wide front end and powerful air intakes. The sedan is presented in several performance lines:

  • EXCLUSIVE in contemporary luxury style. Appearance is characterized by classic elements, chrome moddings and enlarged rims.
  • AVANTGARDE gives the car more dynamics due to larger alloy wheels, a unique design of the front bumper, lowered ground clearance.
  • The AMG Line is a sporty equipped version with a particularly sporty flair. Design by AMG, exclusive wheels, lighting AGILITY CONTROL - all this creates a complete image.

Interior

The interior of the E-Class has an aura of excellence. All parts are organically arranged and form a single shape. Decorative elements on the instrument panel blend seamlessly into the door trim for a sophisticated look. Ergonomic panel, comfortable seats, high-quality finishing materials increase the level of comfort to a premium.

Performance-enhancing comfort and exemplary safety.

Whether it's rush hour, a long night drive or an unfamiliar road, the E-Class Saloon will significantly relieve the driver, especially in a stressful situation. The concept that makes every Mercedes-Benz journey safe and unique is the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive. The time you spend driving a car should not be wasted. It's time for rest. Time to recuperate. The car will safely and comfortably take you to your destination.

The good must be replaced by the best, especially if it is one of the Mercedes-Benz models. And even the quite successful E-class W 211, which defended the honor of the brand in the upper-middle segment, became obsolete over time, and in 2009 the company released a new Eshka. No one was surprised that it had become larger and more comfortable - the design concept shocked, first of all. Moving away from biodesign in favor of chopped forms a la W 124 - not everyone was ready for this turn of events.

The predecessor of our today's hero, Mercedes in the 211th body, received the main criticism for a clearly reduced workmanship, an increased number of failures and a short resource for a number of components. Many fans of the brand associated this fact with the unsuccessful merger with Chrysler and the technological templates they introduced.

In the photo: Mercedes-Benz E 250 CDI (W212) "2009–12

In particular, the SBC system, which was installed before the restyling of the model, the quality of engines, the quality of gearboxes after restyling and the quality of body painting were ostracized. Criticism, it would seem, was taken very seriously, but the new Mercedes inherited both engines and gearboxes from its ancestor, albeit in slightly modernized versions.

However, the model had enough advantages. First of all, comfort has improved through the use of a new active suspension, improved aerodynamics and a new mechatronic cabin. In addition, passport and, most importantly, real fuel consumption has significantly decreased due to the transition mainly to engines with direct fuel injection, a seven-speed automatic transmission, and aerodynamic drag has also decreased. Special attention was paid to safety: among the options there was a night vision system, a radar for emergency braking and cruise control, a blind spot monitoring system, smart airbags, side support adjustments. Well, the body, of course, has become even stronger.

The restyling of 2013 was remembered by many precisely because the hand simply will not rise to call it a facelift. The appearance was redrawn very thoroughly: the car received a new head optics, and with the help of small touches, the appearance changed incredibly - from a rough and faceted projectile, the car turned into an example of an elegant style with a touch of hi-tech. The salon was also ennobled: it has more color and smooth lines, and besides, they abandoned the gloomy gray plastic and the massive steering wheel.

In the photo: Mercedes-Benz E 250 (W212) "2013–present

They also worked thoroughly with the equipment - the line of gasoline engines was replaced with a new one in 2011, removing the fairly outdated and frankly unsuccessful engines of the M271 and M272 series. After restyling, the five-speed boxes of the 722.6 series were almost completely replaced by the seven-speed 722.9, and in 2014, the latest “nine-speed” was also installed on the E350 BlueTech. LEDs settled in the optics, but the night vision system was removed from the range of options. In this form, the model was produced until 2016, when it was replaced by a completely new car in the back of the W 213, which became much more interactive, economical and, perhaps, even more comfortable.

As for reliability, there was no obvious decrease in the number of failures, and the cost of operation even increased, despite the childish, in general, age. I propose to understand this situation in a little more detail.

Body and interior

The oldest cars at the moment are approaching the age of seven. It is still too early to talk about any punctures in the anti-corrosion protection, the cars are well painted, and traces of corrosion can only be found with a very careful examination. Minimal joint sealant breaches on the sill and trunk panels with barely visible traces of rust are undoubtedly a bad sign. Such defects occur regularly, but so far they do not cause any special problems. And most often they are associated with "shock loads" - primarily operation in hot summers, salty winters, diagonal distortions and racing on dead roads.

Explicit corrosion at the seams or at the edges of arches and sills is very rare, unless, of course, the car has been in a serious accident with the replacement of panels with non-original ones or serious work on straightening damaged elements. By and large, if you notice corrosion, then you can stop looking at the car: these are the consequences of either an accident or very tough operation, all other problems do not yet manifest themselves at such a childhood age.

In the photo: Mercedes-Benz E 350 4MATIC (W212) "2013–present

Well, if you look far into the future, then look for a car with a perfectly intact seam sealant and apply an additional layer of anticorrosive on the bottom - the protection looks weak, despite the large amount of plastic, and the internal cavities need protection, the experience of past generations of the E-class says that it is better to do it right away.

It is also recommended to clean the "aquarium" - a niche under the windshield. The drains are small and quickly become polluted with the remains of leaves - the body usually does not face anything from this, but there will be many problems in the electrical part, and it will spill into the cabin. Rubber seals dry out after three to five years, and then the interior flooring will get wet.

Radiator brackets and various small things under the hood will tell a lot about operating conditions. On cars that spend the night in a damp underground garage or in a snowdrift on the street, there will be light corrosion on many nodes and fasteners of the "hood" - this is a feature of many fresh and expensive cars.

A large number of plastic parts on the bottom and their price can play a cruel joke. Even if the metal of the body is impeccable, it may take a round sum of money to bring the car to perfect condition. The aerodynamic panels of the engine compartment, the fender liner (there was a recall campaign on the front) and in general all the lower plastic, including the lining of the suspension arms, are easily damaged. If the M271 series motor, the most common on these cars, is installed, and its oil cup is leaking, then the plastic of the engine compartment is most likely in very poor condition even on cars manufactured in 2012-2013.

Peeling chrome, door handles and wiper leashes are the trouble of cars from Moscow and St. Petersburg, road chemicals quickly kill all decorative coatings.

On a car with a panoramic sunroof, the guides are at risk, they get dirty and creak. If you do not pay attention to this, you can burn the drive motor or break the rollers and levers of the system. And the first rain will increase the number of problems at times. The drainage at the panoramic sunroof, by the way, clogs much faster than that of a simple one. It’s worth blowing every year and you need to do it very carefully - the tubes are attached, to put it mildly, very weakly, they easily fly off when exposed to compressed air, after which you will have to remove the entire hatch mechanism and put the tubes on the clamps.

In the photo: Mercedes-Benz E 63 AMG (W212) "2013–present

Optics before restyling, both front and rear, quickly lose their tightness and sweat. And the xenon headlight ignition units and control units are also gaining moisture. In general, with races through puddles and washing the engine compartment, you need to be very careful, it is better to use not water for this, but special cleaners. There are enough electronic blocks here.

After restyling, the optics have become better, in any case, the headlights are not prone to fogging, but the beautiful “ticks” of the LED lights can go out. Their repair has already been mastered, but most of the services will offer to replace the entire headlight. Cars with LED dipped beam have another problem: “eternal” LEDs actually last only a couple of years, they usually lose their luminosity in summer, in traffic jams. It is strongly recommended to use only DRL in such conditions, and not the neighbors.

In the photo: Mercedes-Benz E 250 CDI AU-spec (W212) "2013–present

The rear LED lights not only blind the “feet” of those standing behind in a traffic jam, but also suffer from a gradual failure of the LEDs - the reason is usually the oxidation of the board and the leakage of the lantern. Officially, it is not collapsible, but the dremel works wonders, often it is enough just to replace the power connector inside, and see for yourself the price of a new headlight ...

The loss of washer caps and the breakdown of the nozzles themselves is another flaw, caps can be considered consumables, and if you put Chinese ones, then several pieces can “leave” a month. If the mirrors creak when folding, then carefully inspect the mounting brackets: an oxide crust on aluminum will hint that it is desirable to inspect the body again for corrosion.

The salon of cars is saturated with a variety of servos and electronics. There is wiring everywhere, control modules for everything in the world, and everything is very carefully and intricately assembled. Cars before restyling generally look gloomier, but the quality of interior materials in basic trim levels, oddly enough, is better than restyling, and expensive leather is not always more durable than cheap leatherette of inexpensive versions.

But when running for a “hundred”, both leatherette and leather give up - the driver's seat begins to become covered with a network of cracks. In general, the quality of the interior is very high: a few unsuccessful elements like automatic gear shifters, steering wheel buttons and seat controls only emphasize how carefully the rest of the details are made. Of the serious disadvantages, only thermal sensitivity can be noted - at low temperatures, the interior begins to rattle, especially on restyled models, and the suspension echoes it. Again, post-2013 cars are reported to have slightly worse soundproofing, but it's possible it's just the noisier newer generation engines that create the same effect.

The Command multimedia system fails relatively rarely. Most often, failures are associated with the rear camera module, it is connected directly to the “head” of the device and to the CD changer. A few more problems are caused by non-standard firmware with Russification and new navigation for cars from Europe, such software often works unstable.

Too many problems for a relatively fresh car? But pay attention, exploit "E-shki" for slaughter. They work both as corporate cars and "personal cars" for those who drive themselves and do not consider it an expensive limousine.

Electronics and electrical

In addition to the complexity of the problems at least. It doesn’t break down very often, but if it breaks down ... If you don’t light a cigarette, don’t discharge the batteries, monitor the generator’s serviceability, then all the complex electronic filling works stably. Of the serious troubles, one can only recall the piezo injectors and the OM651 engine control unit, this is a diesel 2.2. The injectors died, the unit was changed along with them, but a newer version of the control unit sometimes loses power to the injectors. In general, electronics from Delphi proved to be not the best way. After the warranty period, all this changes extremely reluctantly, check when buying.

Engine compartment electronics often suffer from leaks, especially ignition and headlight control units. The keyless entry system is sensitive to strong interference, failures happen too often, and besides, it can simply drain the battery in just a day or two, giving false positives. Otherwise, you just need to remember that all servos, displays and touch panels have a limited resource, and besides, these things are quite fragile. And in the performance of Mercedes, they are also expensive. There are very few machines that, when diagnosed, show a complete absence of errors and malfunctions in the operation of actuators.

Brakes, suspension and steering

The brake system fully complies with the brand's standards: high quality of all components and excellent work. The small resource of discs and pads is a little alarming, but this is a consequence of the active work of stabilization systems, drying of brake discs, and the mass of the car is rather big, under two tons.

Suspensions on the W 212 are famous for their comfort and good mileage, up to a run of 70-100 thousand kilometers they can withstand almost everything, even with 18-inch wheels. The secret is that the front is no longer a two-lever, but an ordinary MacPherson, it is simpler and more reliable. The rear suspension has been seriously redesigned, and it better withstands a lot of new cars - the old versions of the multi-link were structurally little different from the suspension of cars in the back of the W 201 thirty years ago. Here are just electronically controlled shock absorbers here in the stock configuration, which significantly increases costs in case of wear or serious damage, and electronics have a finite resource.

In the photo: Mercedes-Benz E 220 CDI (W212) "2009–12
The air suspension has become noticeably stronger, once again improved protection against road dirt, pipelines and electronics, including all sensors, have become more reliable. The “pneuma” resource is stable for more than 150 thousand kilometers, but rather, it needs to be measured in years, because the wear of the elements is largely related to the age of the cylinders.

In the photo: Mercedes-Benz E 350 4MATIC (W212) "2009–12

The electric power steering does not cause problems, it was installed on cars with gasoline engines of the M274, M276 series and some diesel ones. But the pump of a conventional power steering on the M272 and M271 does not differ in resource, the high load on the unit affects when using wide rubber. The resource of the rack, steering rods and tips is quite large - the tips and rods need to be checked and changed closer to one hundred thousand kilometers, and the rail usually does not require replacement with a slight backlash even with runs over three hundred thousand kilometers. Failures of the Servotronic system (Mercedes call it “parametric steering”, surprisingly, are extremely rare.

Transmission

Mechanical boxes and the transmission itself are extremely reliable, since they have been worked out for years. And even the all-wheel drive transmission is distinguished by its resource and reliability. Unless the elements of the front gearbox and front axle drive can fail with runs up to hundreds of thousands of kilometers. The transfer case is at risk only on all-wheel drive vehicles with a top-end three-liter diesel engine and on AMG versions.

With automatic transmissions, everything is a little more complicated. Until 2011, most of the four-cylinder cars were equipped with an old and very reliable five-speed gearbox of the 722.6 series, which has long been debugged and improved. By the way, the latest firmware for this unit dates back to 2014, with them the wear of the gas turbine engine linings is slightly reduced due to the less active operation of the lock on the “cold” and the increase in the margin of “adaptability”. By modern standards, a very reliable unit, with a resource of mechanics and a valve body of about 250-300 thousand kilometers, without "children's problems." With the timely replacement of the gas turbine engine blocking lining with runs of 150-200 thousand kilometers and frequent oil changes, it does not cause much trouble until the wear of the main friction clutches, bushings and planetary gears. On versions of the E200, this automatic transmission can be found until 2013.

The 722.9 series automatic transmission, also known as 7G-tronic, which has been installed on six-cylinder versions of cars since 2009 and on other cars since 2011, cannot boast of such sophistication and trouble-free operation. The main difficulties were eliminated on the restyled W 211, but the W 212 also had a lot of problems. And the first variants of 7Gtronic +, optimized for start-stop modes, also added failures. Valve body failures, wiring and overheating have haunted the boxes to this day. And, perhaps, this automatic transmission is one of the most serious shortcomings of post-styling cars.

However, she certainly has advantages: the fuel consumption of cars with a seven-speed automatic transmission is surprisingly small - in combination with gasoline “fours”, the average can be less than eight liters, and with diesel OM651 even less than six liters. It is highly recommended to change the oil every 30-40 thousand kilometers and install an external automatic transmission radiator, as well as remove the box thermostat.

Since 2014, the nine-speed automatic transmission 9G -tronic has also been installed on BlueTech diesel models. Again, many “childish problems” have been revealed, but at the moment they are being eliminated under warranty, and there are almost no problems with overheating on diesel engines. With such an automatic transmission, fuel consumption is still slightly reduced. In the "route" modes, the consumption of diesel engines drops below three liters per hundred, and this is for a two-ton car.

Engines

Pre-styling engines are basically the “hit” of recent years in the face of the 1.8-liter M271 Evo engine with a compressor, as well as the M272 series engines. By the time the W 212 was launched, most of the engine problems had been eliminated, although the M271 still has a low timing chain and stars, and the M272 still periodically wears out the intake manifold and lifts the cylinders.

All the engines of this generation also suffer from oil leaks too often: an unsuccessful “glass” of the filter flows on the M271, and a heat exchanger on the M272. Take a look at the list of problems with these motors: in fact, the difficulties are the same, but the age of the cars is less. But given the well-established design, serious problems arise only if all warnings are persistently ignored.

Under the hood of Mercedes-Benz E 200 NGT (W212) "2011–12

The main trouble of the M272 - the small resource of the timing chain - retreated. Motors of later years of production have an average resource of this node of about 200 thousand kilometers, and besides, the chain rarely jumps immediately. On the M271, the chain must be monitored in both directions, it often stretches and jumps at runs of less than 100 thousand kilometers, but again, it warns of wear with a specific noise in advance. Since runs over 200 thousand kilometers are still not so common, there are few complaints about these engines, and they are mainly associated with the M271. Motors of the M273 series are much less common, but in fact they do not differ from the M272 in operation, except that scuffing of the cylinders on them can be found much more often.

There are a lot of diesel engines of the OM651 series in various versions for boosting and feeding. Until 2011, units were supplied with piezo injectors, which were prone to leaks and failures. This often led to water hammer and burnout of the pistons. Problems were avoided only by the younger version of the motor, which was equipped with conventional nozzles. As part of the recall campaign, the nozzles on all engines after 2011 were changed to electromagnetic ones, and the injection control unit was also changed.

timing chain cost

The design of the motor is quite complicated, it has many points that require attention, but the workmanship is very good, and in most cases failures occur due to the fault of the fuel equipment, intake manifold flaps, thermostat, EGR valve, particulate filter and sensors.

By a run of 200-250 thousand kilometers, the turbine usually dies. At about the same mileage, the timing mechanism needs to be replaced. Another unpleasant feature of the motor is the tendency to "stick" injectors. Specialized services usually know how to deal with this scourge, but the owners still recommend preventive removal and cleaning at least once a year. Little things like overrunning clutch and APC valve failures are almost never found on cars with low mileage.

Diesel V 6 series OM642 are considered one of the most reliable Mercedes-Benz in recent years. Very resourceful, with very reliable fuel equipment - it is deservedly appreciated by those who want power and stability. The problems are mostly clean , and nothing more.

After 2011, new engines began to appear on cars. There are significantly fewer reviews on them, but a number of patterns can be distinguished.

The engines of the M276 series that replaced the M272 have no problems with the piston group and manifolds, but on the other hand, there was already a revocable campaign for the timing - they changed the dampers and hydraulic chain tensioners, and the chains jumped at low mileage. They recalled motors 276.8 with a serial number up to 276.8xx 30 001280 and 276.9 with a serial number up to 276.9xx 30 406602. In addition, the oil pump pressure is too low, and there are often cases of damage to the liners and crankshaft. Piezo injectors do not perform well on these motors either, but so far they are being changed as part of warranty repairs.

The in-line fours of the M274 series received an aluminum block, a delicate piston group and a turbocharger. Only the 2.0-liter version was installed on the E-class in two degrees of boost. The motor has shown itself well so far, but there are cases of seizures in the piston group, the motor does not tolerate the slightest overheating very well, and besides, it is sometimes prone to “oil burner” at a very young age.

What to choose?

The cost of operating premium business-class cars has risen markedly over the past decade, and it takes some getting used to. You wanted the fuel consumption of Solaris and the dynamics of the 911, right? Get it, but you still have to pay - not for fuel, but for repairs and maintenance. Now these cars for the most part please their owners. They are solidly made, but they have enough nodes with a limited service life and frank "pitfalls" like chains on the M271 and automatic transmission 7G -tronic. All of them can cause a lot of trouble even to the most zealous car owners, subject to the “factory” maintenance intervals.

With a diesel engine, the E-class can even claim the title of a very economical car to operate, especially if you have long runs and smooth roads. Comfort and safety are undoubtedly among the best features of the model, here it is head and shoulders above any new car that can be purchased for comparable amounts, and believe me, no "strong" "Japanese" can compare with it.

But there will definitely be expenses - small at first, large later, and it is difficult to predict how much of them will fall on your wallet.

Would you buy yourself the penultimate E-class?

The history of this popular model, which has always combined comfort, reliability and a high degree of safety, is very extensive. The first car of this series (model 170) was created in 1947 and marked the beginning of post-war production. This was followed in 1953 by the 180 and 190, better known as the "Ponton Mercedes". In the next 9 years, more than 468 thousand cars of this series, including diesel ones, were sold. Production of the W110 series began in 1961, and by February 1968 more than 628,000 vehicles had been produced. This successful series was replaced by the equally successful W114/115. In 1968, a sedan with an extended wheelbase, as well as a coupe version, first saw the light. In 1976 the W123 car series followed. In addition, a station wagon version appeared. And finally, the debut of the W124 series, which took place in November 1984. Thus, 5 generations of cars were replaced before the E-class appeared in 1995, which really surprised everyone with its fundamentally new “four-eyed” muzzle.

From copies of the real E-class, made no earlier than the end of 93, the W124 series models of the early years can be distinguished by a deep recess for the rear license plate and narrow black side moldings. Of particular interest is the "one-armed dancing" janitor ". The W124 featured an automatic locking differential (ASD), an anti-skid system (ASR) and, for the first time on a production Mercedes passenger car, all-wheel drive with automatic torque distribution (4Matic). In September 1988, W124 buyers were offered an airbag as an additional equipment ... .. Four years later, both the airbag and the ABS entered the basic equipment of all Mercedes.

Pretty conservative (in a good way) and easy to use, reliable, with durable engines and a spacious interior, coupled with a well-designed interior and ergonomics, the Mercedes-Benz W124 is practically a reference passenger car of the 1980s. There were seven interior options with tapestry or leather seat trim. A huge margin for adjusting the driver's seat, remotely retractable rear headrests, comfortable seat belts, tightness and excellent sound insulation of the body - this is worth paying for those who value ride comfort and safety above all else. The only drawback of the huge 520-liter luggage compartment - the inability to place long loads inside the cabin - is compensated by good lighting, a low boot lip and practical pockets for small items and tools.

In August 1989, the W124 received a cosmetic retouch. He received wide plastic lining on the doors and the bottom of the body with chrome molding. Chrome appeared on the bumpers and door handles. Headlight lenses have been changed. There was more space in the cabin, more comfortable seats appeared, and precious woods began to be used more widely in the decoration. In the same year, for the first time, engines with fully electronically controlled power and ignition systems were introduced on the Mercedes W124.

So, as a result of the next modernization of the W124 model at the end of 1993, the first E-class appeared, which still remains a fairly prestigious car. At that time, a new indexing of all "Mercedes-Benz" was introduced: instead of "200E", "220E" and so on, more modern "E200", "E220", "E280" came ... The letter in front denotes the E-class, and the following numbers - engine capacity. So the first E-class appeared, which will be discussed.

The first E-class was distinguished by an almost flat rear wall of the trunk lid (very similar to the “one hundred and fortieth”), so that the deep niche of the license plate gave way to a simple stamping, chrome molding and wide lining on the body sides, the radiator grill was “drowned” in the hood. When the E-Class went on sale, there were quite a few old-generation cars in the warehouses of Mercedes dealers throughout Europe, which began to be turned into the E-Class. This required, by and large, to replace only the hood with a false radiator grille and the trunk lid. European dealers carried out such an operation only with cars of 92-93, in which gasoline engines with four valves per cylinder had already appeared (technically, these cars do not differ from the E-class). However, in our market you can meet supposedly the E-class in general of the eighties! Simply, on top of everything else, instead of old-fashioned side moldings, modern plastic linings are installed on the sidewalls of the body. Such machines give out, first of all, motors with two valves per cylinder. In the service, you can check the year of manufacture of the car by downloading its VIN number to the computer.

Mercedes cars are initially very expensive, but at the same time very strong and hardy. The E-class exists in several bodies, first of all, these are “sedans” that prevail on the used car market. Station wagons of the E-class (Touring) are the best option for practical people. Having retained all the advantages of a sedan, the station wagon has advantages - a large usable volume of the cabin, which, with the rear (middle) row of seats folded down, reached 2180 liters. In its trunk, you can install an additional 2-seater seat, with which the total number of seats reaches seven. However, the main rear seat can also be folded in a 2:1 ratio. The model has retained a unique rear hydraulic suspension with automatic pumping to maintain a constant level of the rear of the body above the road. In the Mercedes program, the station wagon is denoted by the letter "T" after the numbers, for example, "E280T". This is one of the most spacious station wagons in its class.

Traditionally, “personal” Mercedes-Benz models with a two-door coupe body without an average roof pillar have always been considered exquisite - the so-called hardtop, which, with the side windows lowered, are comparable to a convertible in terms of “ventilation” of the cabin. At the same time, such a body is much more practical, and its passive safety is higher. The streamlined body, made on a shortened (by 85 mm) sedan chassis, turned out to be very stylish. The coupe was designated by the letter "C".

Cabriolet "Cabrio" was created on the basis of the coupe. One of the few convertibles created on the basis of a business class car. This fully four-seater car (which is rare among modern cars of this type) with an automatically folding top was equipped only with gasoline engines.

The Mercedes E-class is one of the few cars offered with such a wide range of engines, from modest four-cylinders to multi-liter V8s…

The M111 series is equipped with two four-cylinder engines - "E200" with a capacity of 136 hp. and "E220" - 150 hp By themselves, these engines are reliable and durable, but they were equipped with various injection systems. An unsuccessful option is the so-called PMS injection. Its control unit is too sensitive to water and salt. He is afraid of an elementary engine wash.

Further, the six-cylinder E-class series "M104" - modifications "E280" (193 hp) and "E320" (220 hp) - with typically Mercedes noiselessness and dynamism even when fully loaded. For this, however, you have to pay a solid fuel consumption. In the city, six-cylinder cars eat about 17l / 100 km. Motors of the M104 series are very durable.

The powerful E420 of the M119 series with an eight-cylinder engine can compete on equal terms with high-speed modern Mercs. The car is equipped with a 4.2-liter V8 with a capacity of 279 forces. This engine is perhaps the most reliable, but also quite voracious: with a restrained ride, every hundred kilometers, a twenty-liter canister of not the cheapest gasoline flies into the pipe. In a word, the car is addressed to those who really love fast driving and are able to maintain such a fast car.

The dream of many collectors - the legendary "E500" - a reliable and incredibly fast sedan. Outwardly, the Supermers are distinguished by separate headlights, bumpers of a different shape with standard front foglights, widely swollen front and rear wheel arches and a rich interior with sports seats. The rest - the classic and noble "one hundred and twenty-fourth". This heavy-duty (326 hp) model with a 5-liter M117 V8 engine from the “500th” S-class reaches 100 km / h in just 6.1 seconds. The assembly of this model was carried out on the assembly line of Porsche. For especially hot heads, the E60 AMG version was offered with a 6-liter V8 with 381 hp. and acceleration in 5.4 seconds. But there are very few of them even in Germany. In the tradition of "Mercedes-Benz" both models were equipped only with automatic transmissions.

Diesel Mercedes E-class are also noteworthy. The E200 Diesel version at one time attracted buyers with its cheapness. It cost even less than the gasoline "E200"! However, the four-cylinder diesel is frankly noisy and produces a noticeable vibration. The most popular due to the price / performance ratio was a 5-cylinder diesel. In operation, it is much softer and quieter. The inline "six" with a volume of three liters was offered in two versions: atmospheric (136 hp) and turbocharged (147 hp). Cars with such engines are expensive both in themselves and in maintenance. The "six" works practically without the characteristic diesel rattling, exceptionally soft. Finally, the EZ00 Diesel and EZ00 Turbodiesel are very fast and dynamic.

In 1995, Mercedes-Benz introduced E-class cars in a new body - W210 with 4 round headlights. The 210th was a worthy successor to the 124 series car, which sold 2.7 million worldwide. who is left indifferent. The big-eyed Mercedes inherited the main features of the corporate identity, which was confirmed by an unprecedented increase in European sales of the model in the next three years, such that many of its competitors in the upper market sector (F) had to make room. The 210 series of sedans remains the most successful at the top of the middle class.

Like its predecessor with the 124 body, the E-Class is a strong and reliable car. The smoothness of this car is impressive. Improved wheel suspension almost completely neutralizes the impact of road bumps. For the first time on machines of this class, rack and pinion steering was used. Among the innovations are a rain sensor, an outdoor air pollution sensor, and the Parktronic system. A year later, an "adaptive" 5-speed electronically controlled FRG appeared, allowing you to change the switching algorithm depending on the driving style.

More than 6,400 individual design and technical options are available for E class vehicles. Among the additional equipment and accessories: child seats, a refrigerator, comfortable seats with ventilation, a dynamic navigation system (DynAPS), a Comand control and display system with an integrated radio and navigation system, etc.

Initially, the E-class had a fairly rich basic package, which included power accessories (mirror windows), height-adjustable front seats. For safety reasons, the car was equipped with a Window-Bag airbag that deployed in a side impact in the form of a curtain between the front and rear pillars; two-stage frontal airbags; inertial seat belts; multifunction steering wheel, ABS, ESP. All this equipment was available, regardless of the version and interior equipment, of which three were provided: Classic, Elegance and Avantgarde. The cheapest of them is considered Classic, which is distinguished by the absence of leather and minimal use of wood in interior trim, simple rims, green tinted windows and a “low” center console – without an armrest between the front seats. But even this option is very representative. The trunk of the sedan, despite the large 520-liter volume, is also very comfortable.

Elegance style cars look richer with chrome on the exterior door handles and bumpers. The interior of this version flaunts walnut trim. The steering wheel and gear lever are covered with leather, which can also be trimmed with seats. Wheels - cast, ten-spoke. Instead of rotating handles for ventilation, air conditioning and a "stove" on the center console, a modern microclimate control unit with a display and keys is already used.

The most elite performance is Avantgarde. It has, so to speak, a sports bias. The interior is trimmed in dark, almost black maple and leather. Special rims and the almost obligatory xenon light add respectability to the exterior. In addition, in the Avantgarde version, the windows are tinted not in the widely used green, but in blue. True, it should be noted that the low Avantgarde sports suspension does not tolerate Russian roads in the best way.

Since 1997, the Brake Assist system has been installed on all E-class cars, which recognizes extreme braking and helps the driver to reduce the braking distance to a minimum. In addition, this system itself monitors for malfunctions that occur in the engine, electrician or transmission and reminds you to change the oil or brake fluid using the "Check Engine" light on the dashboard. Even in the service book it is indicated that visits to the service station are made at intervals of 15.000-22.000 km at the signal of this bulb.

Since 1997, all-wheel drive versions of the E-class have appeared in the program - “4Matic” (transmission “4x4”). This is a sophisticated transmission that combines a 5-speed "automatic" and a traction control system - in the event of slipping, it slows down a spinning wheel, providing better traction. This 4Matic transmission constantly smoothly redistributes the torque between the front and rear axles through viscous couplings (during normal driving in a ratio of 33:66), and there are no inter-wheel and center differential locks, as they are replaced by the “smart” ETS system, which itself slows down the slipping wheel for through the standard brake system.

For the E-class, the widest range of engines is presented, which are divided into three groups. The first includes economical gasoline and diesel engines with a working volume of 2.0-2.7 liters with a capacity of 115-170 hp. Cars with such engines have low fuel consumption and fully satisfy the needs of most E-class owners.

Another group includes more powerful 6-cylinder 2.8- and 3.2-liter engines, which, as a rule, already work with automatic 5-speed gearboxes. These engines allow you to fully reveal the full potential of the design incorporated in the E-class. More modern engines appeared in 1997. These are not in-line, but already V-shaped “sixes” with a volume of 2.4, 2.8 and 3.2 liters (170, 204 and 224 forces, respectively). V6s are on average 25% lighter than previous-generation inline-sixes, they are perfectly balanced, and their work is practically not felt on the controls. Yes, and fuel consumption has decreased compared to in-line counterparts - in the city it will be about 13 liters. In the E-class, such popular station wagon models were also equipped with new V-shaped 6-cylinder engines (129-279 hp)

The third includes the most prestigious V-shaped "eights" with a working volume of 4.3 and 5.4 liters. The models equipped with them, perhaps, can be attributed to representative ones. For the powerful "E420" with a 4.2-liter V8 with a capacity of 279 forces since 1997, the Germans have increased the engine size by 100 "cubes", leaving the power unchanged, in order to increase the already considerable torque. Average fuel consumption is about 20 l/100 km. In 1996, the Mercedes tuning studio launched the E50 AMG model on the market, and a year later, in 1997, the E 55 AMG modification, the most powerful sports sedan, was introduced in Frankfurt. The main changes that were introduced to the standard E-class by AMG masters concerned the refinement of the engine, suspension and car body.

So, the E50 AMG received a forced 5-liter V8 with a capacity of 347 forces. With such potential, the car accelerated to hundreds in 7.2 seconds, and the maximum speed was limited to the standard 250 km / h. The E55 AMG model had an even more impressive 5.4-liter "eight" with a capacity of 354 forces. Therefore, acceleration to hundreds takes only 5.7 seconds, and a powerful torque (530 Nm) literally throws the car forward even from 200 km / h. Externally, cars from AMG are distinguished by plastic door sills, lower bumpers, additional spoilers and special sports wheels. The ground clearance of the sporty E-Class is 2.5 cm less than the standard model. The chic interior in two-tone leather is a hallmark of AMG creations.

And in 1998, the “big-eyed” began to be equipped with a new generation of diesel engines with a Common Rail power system (Mercedes with such engines are designated by the CDI index). The previously known E200CDI and E220CDI remained, but received more powerful engines of 115 and 143 hp. instead of the previous 102 and 125 hp

From 1995 to 1999 More than 1 million W210 vehicles have been produced, most of which are operated in Europe. No wonder this model has been and remains one of the standards of the business class. In the summer of 1999, the "big-eyed" was upgraded, more than 1800 different changes were made to the design. New engines, transmissions appeared, equipment changed. The most extensive program of E-class models, by the beginning of 2000, included 27 basic configurations. The external difference between the “new” cars and the “old” ones is the shape of a lower front end with an integrated bumper, the edge of which reaches the middle of the headlights. Such a car is easily recognizable by the direction indicators implanted in the exterior mirrors, while the early version of the "flashing lights" are located on the front fenders. Among the features of the E-class station wagon is a very spacious luggage compartment, the volume of which, with the rear seat folded down, reaches 1.97 m3. As standard equipment on the Mercedes E-Class, an electronic stability program (ESP) is installed. On all-wheel drive versions of 4Matic, the traditional differential locking system is no longer used, but imitation of locking by braking the slipping wheels with the help of ABS.

Since 2000, models have been equipped with 270 CDI and 320 CDI engines. The all-wheel drive E430 4 Matic appeared in the program, the front wheels of which are connected, however, only when the rear wheels slip. The most powerful sports sedan E55 AMG 4 Matic and station wagon E55T AMG 4 Matic are distinguished by their special design and excellent speed characteristics. At the end of 2001, the introduction of the E400 CDI model with the latest 4.0-liter V8 turbodiesel with 250 hp.

In November 2001, production of the W210 ceased. Station wagon modifications were assembled until early 2003. The exact number of produced cars with a body W210-1350128. This is about 24% of the number of passenger Mercedes produced from 1995 to 2001. A significant event in November 2001 was that the figure of 10 million sales of E-class cars in their history was reached.

In January 2002, the premiere of the new E-class sedan (body type W211) took place. The machine has grown a little more in size, and its appearance has acquired a more impetuous appearance - a magnificent sculptural form of glass and steel. The highest level of comfort for both the driver and passengers corresponds to the same level of active and passive safety.

Externally, the car retained the style of its predecessor: the same separate round headlights in front, only now they consist of several lamps hidden under one cap. The rear of the new E-class is made in the style of the Mercedes S-class executive sedan. The interior of the car is now significantly more spacious thanks to the increased wheelbase, as well as the newly designed interior. Informative devices in the form of liquid-crystal columns will report only the most necessary and relevant information, and the sound of a running engine and the noise of city streets will not disturb you due to almost perfect sound insulation.

Initially, the creators not only provided E-class cars with rich equipment, but also equipped them with the most innovative technology. Especially for the E-class, the Airmatic Dual Control semi-active air suspension was developed, which is standardly equipped with the E 500 model. It allows the car to “not notice” bumps and soar above the road.

The Sensotronic Brake Control (SBC) braking system takes care of the safety of passengers: it automatically dries the brake discs on wet roads and, thanks to its advantages, optimizes the functions of the other safety systems ESP, ASR, ABS and BAS. The computer calculates the required braking force and distributes it specifically to the wheels. In addition to the technical highlights, optional multi-contour seats with dynamic multicontour adaptability are also available. If necessary, can make a massage of the back and legs. Eight airbags can be noted (two front, four side for front and rear passengers, two side upper inflatable “curtains”), as well as automatic opening and closing of the trunk. As additional equipment, a new cruise control system and a branded COMAND entertainment system will be installed.

For the novelty, a whole range of modern engines is provided. To begin with, they will offer proven gasoline and diesel engines with a working volume of 2.2-5.0 liters in the power range of 150-306 hp. 177-horsepower 2.4-liter engine and 3.2-liter engine with 224 horsepower. Later, a five-liter V8 with a capacity of 306 “horses” from the Mercedes S-Class was added to this range. Diesel engines: 220 CDI with 150 horsepower and 270 CDI with 177 horsepower. This set was replenished with a 197-horsepower 320 CDI engine, and since March 2003 also a four-liter V8 with a capacity of 260 horsepower. All models (except E320 and E500) are equipped with either a mechanical 6-speed gearbox or a hydromechanical adaptive 5-speed "automatic".

Now the E-class received three new engines at once - gasoline and two diesel. Two of these new powertrains can be called "budget" because they are more economical. The first of the new engines is a 1.8-liter gasoline engine, whose power has been increased to 163 hp, thanks to the use of a mechanical supercharger. The maximum torque of this motor of 240 Nm is achieved in the range from 3,000 to 4,000 rpm. The Mercedes E 200 Kompressor consumes 8.4 liters of fuel per hundred kilometers, and its top speed reaches 230 km/h.

Another novelty is a four-cylinder turbodiesel engine with a direct fuel injection system. The 122-horsepower two-liter engine allows you to reach a maximum speed of 203 km / h. At the same time, the new engine is very economical - the average fuel consumption is 6.3 liters.

And the third novelty was another diesel engine with a volume of 3.2 liters. Its power has been increased to 204 hp. Up to a hundred km / h, the E-Class with such a motor accelerates in 7.7 seconds, and its maximum speed is 243 km / h.

The apotheosis of the engine program is the E 55 AMG, which accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds. The “charged” E-Class sedan, which was worked on by the AMG tuning studio, has a 5.5-liter V8 engine with a capacity of 476 horsepower, and its maximum speed is limited to 250 kilometers per hour. E 55 AMG as standard! it is completed with a novelty of world technical thought - semi-active air suspension AIRMATIC Dual Control. The vehicle's ground clearance is electronically controlled. When cornering at high speeds, the system automatically “pulls up” the suspension, reducing the amplitude of the transverse and longitudinal buildup of the body.

In the fall of 2002, the Mercedes E-Class received the 4Matic all-wheel drive system. For now, the 4Matic system will only be available to buyers of petrol versions of the E-Class, namely the E240 with a 177-horsepower engine, the E320 with a 224-horsepower engine and the E500 with a 306-horsepower engine. All four-wheel drive versions of the Mercedes E-Class are 10 millimeters taller than the base models due to the higher position of the body above the road.

The latest generation Mercedes E-Class lineup may soon be replenished with several new modifications. Since 2003, buyers have been able to purchase a station wagon based on the Mercedes E-Class. Its all-wheel drive version is already available. And not so long ago, an AMG version of the Mercedes-Benz E-class station wagon came out - the E 55 AMG with a V8 turbo engine, which made it the most powerful station wagon in the world. The car accelerates to 100 km / h in just 4.8 seconds, while its predecessor took 5.9 seconds. Its maximum speed is limited to 250 km/h.

The next in the lineup of the E-Class should appear a limousine - a version of the sedan extended by 50 centimeters. This car will receive luxurious equipment and will be designed for those who want to have an executive car, but are not yet ready to pay a tangible amount for a similar version of the Mercedes S-Class.

Finally, the latest addition to the Mercedes E-Class range will be a four-door coupe. This car will appear in 2005 and will receive a slightly different body design.

The 2006 New York International Auto Show saw the world premiere of the redesigned Mercedes-Benz E-Class, which sets new standards and sets new benchmarks. During the next modernization, the car got new engines, sports suspension and additional safety features. Although by and large there are not so many changes in appearance, the designers have refreshed the look of the model quite well. Among the new in appearance - the changed shape of the bumpers, grille, sills and rear-view mirrors.

Inside the cabin, a stylish four-spoke steering wheel appeared and the climate control control panel changed, which is now included in the basic equipment package. In total, buyers were offered 29 model options - 16 modifications of the sedan and 13 - station wagon.

The standard equipment of the updated Mercedes E-Class included the Pre Safe security system, which debuted on the S-Class in 2002. As soon as the sensors installed on the vehicle “suspect” the danger of a collision, the seat backs and head restraints automatically move to the correct position and the seat belt pretensioners are activated. Neck Pro head restraints with touch sensors protect the head of the driver and front passenger. Flashing brake lights are standard on the updated E-Class. The driver of the next car reacts to a flashing light 0.2 seconds faster than to a permanently on light. Plus the innovative Intelligent Light System. Headlights now automatically change the intensity and direction of the light beam depending on the speed. For the most active drivers, the Direct control package is designed, with sharper steering and stiffer suspension. Overall, almost 2,000 parts have been redesigned or upgraded in the car.

The updated E-Class is equipped with ten different engines, six of which have undergone significant upgrades. The diesel range consists of the E 200 CDI, E 220 CDI and E 320 CDI, and starting in the fall of 2006, the E 320 BLUETEC, the cleanest diesel engine in the world, according to the company, began to be installed on cars delivered to the USA. BLUETEC, in addition, consumes 20-40% less fuel than gasoline engines of the same power. The most modest version, the E 200 Kompressor, was boosted to 184 hp, while the top model received the 388 hp 5.5-liter V8 previously found in the S-Class. The E 500 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.3 seconds.

The "charged" version from the AMG studio received a naturally aspirated V8 with a capacity of 514 hp, which is 38 horses more than the E 55 AMG predecessor.

The fourth generation of the E-class W212 was shown in early January 2009 at the Detroit Auto Show. The elegant, sophisticated look of its predecessor, created six years ago under former chief designer Peter Pfeiffer, is gone. The car retained its "four-eyes", but the headlights are no longer oval (as it was in previous generations), but diamond-shaped. The sharp edges, as emphasized by new chief designer Gordon Wagener, are reminiscent of the 1950s Mercedes W120/121, nicknamed the Ponton, the forerunner of the E-Class.

The Mercedes E-class traditionally sets the standard for competitors in its class. Every detail, from trim materials to numerous security systems, speaks of the high status of the car. The sedan has grown significantly in terms of key parameters. The length increased by 14 mm (up to 4868 mm), the wheelbase was stretched by 20 mm (up to 2874), the width increased by 32 mm (up to 1854 mm), and the height decreased by 13 mm (up to 1470).

The station wagon premiered at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2009. Compared to its predecessor, the new station wagon is 50 millimeters longer, and the volume of the luggage compartment with the second-row seats folded down will remain the same - 1950 liters. In addition, the tailgate and a soft curtain that hides the contents of the compartment from prying eyes will receive a servo drive in all versions, including the base one.

In the 212 E-Class family, the coupe and cabriolet reappeared. The E-class coupe (body code C207) was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 2009. This is the second coupe in the E-class family after the W124 body. The E 220 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY is the most streamlined production coupe in the world as standard, with a Cx of just 0.24. The coupe is assembled at the factory in Bremen.

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class convertible (body code A207) was unveiled to the public at the 2010 North American International Auto Show. This is the second convertible in the E-class family after the W124 body. The convertible is equipped with a fabric soft folding roof that folds or opens in 20 seconds, and this can be done either from the roof control button from the passenger compartment or a button on the key. The roof mechanism is ordered from Karmann. According to Mercedes-Benz, the roof is designed for 20,000 folding cycles. The convertible is equipped with AirScarf and AirCap systems. AirScarf - brings warm air to the necks of the driver and front passenger. And when AirCap is activated, a spoiler from the upper windshield frame and a windscreen behind the rear seat headrests extend, which divert airflow as the car moves, making the cabin quiet and calm.

At the Beijing Auto Show in 2010, a version of the sedan extended by 14 cm was presented. The car will receive the “L” index, its length is 5012 mm, and the wheelbase is 3014 mm.

The interior is designed in the spirit of the C-class and GLK: the same angular center console, also the architectural solution of the dashboard. In the interior design, expensive leather on the chairs, metal fittings, high-quality plastic and even light guides invisible to the eye, pouring an amber glow from under the lining on the doors and the dashboard, were used. The standard version of the seats with their embossed soft upholstery ensures a high level of comfort on long journeys and optimum lateral support, even with a very sporty driving style. Dynamic multi-contour seats are available as an option for the driver and front passenger. Their separately adjustable air chambers allow the contour of the seat to be optimally adapted to the individual characteristics of the sitting figure. The side bolsters adjust automatically and dynamically, depending on how the vehicle is being driven. Seat cushion depth, side bolsters and lumbar support are pneumatically adjustable. Additional comfort will be provided by the function of dynamic massage of seven zones and superior comfort headrests.

There is room in the rear of the cabin, which is especially noticeable on the separate deluxe seats, which are offered as an option. In addition, these seats are equipped with heating and comfort head restraints. Second-row passengers also benefit from rear-door sun visors and a center armrest with two integrated drink holders.

Interestingly, if cars with four-cylinder engines have five-speed “automatic” and manual gearbox levers located on the central tunnel, then more expensive versions with “sixes” and seven-speed “automatic” 7G-Tronic have a selector lever on the steering column.

The standard equipment includes the ATTENTION ASSIST system for recognizing the degree of driver fatigue, which detects the appearance of signs of driver fatigue in the manner of his driving and starts to give warning signals. In general, the Mercedes-Benz E-class 2009 came to the start with a number of innovative solutions: full automatic braking in the event of a direct threat of a collision, an adaptive head light control system. The standard equipment of the Mercedes E 212 includes an electronic security system (ESP) and airbags. The body with increased by 30% rigidity by 75% consists of high-strength steel grades.

The range of powertrains is amazing: there are five diesel versions: E 200 CDI, 220 CDI, 250 CDI, 350 CDI and 350 Bluetec. The first three diesel versions are equipped with the same four-cylinder engine with dual sequential turbocharging, but in three boost options: 136 hp, 170 and 204. Modifications E 350 CDI and E 350 Bluetec also differ in returns: the less environmentally friendly version of the CDI is more powerful - 231 power against 211. Five more gasoline: E 200 CGI, 250 CGI, 350 CGI, E 350 4MATIC and E 500. Two younger unpopular V6 engines 2.5 and 3.0 disappeared from the range, and with them the E230 and E280 versions.

The front McPherson struts and the rear "multi-link" are adapted for the use of shock absorbers with variable resistance: either "passive", with amplitude-dependent characteristics, or electronically controlled. Moreover, the latter on the E-class for the first time work in tandem with air suspension: it is standardly installed on versions with a V8 engine and for a fee - on six-cylinder cars.

The highest security measures, reliability, jewelry handling and dynamics are the essential qualities of a real car, which is the Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

In January 2013, the updated Mercedes-Benz E-class family was presented at the Detroit Auto Show. After restyling, the car received a number of fundamentally new stylistic solutions. The main one is that the four-section headlights characteristic of the E-class are a thing of the past, now the head optics is a single block headlights. By the way, full LED headlights are on the options list. Front end changes are not limited to new headlights. The Germans also redesigned the hood and front bumper. The rear of the upgraded car looks more elongated and elegant due to the modified rear fenders and new-shaped LED lights. Sportier versions of the E-Class will get a large badge built into the grille, while base models come with a classic bonnet sight. The body color is offered in 2 non-metallic enamels, namely Calcite and Black, as well as 10 metallics.

Changes in the interior are not so many, but they are quite noticeable. The restyled versions received a new design dashboard, on which there are three dials, the on-board computer screen is located in the central dial. Otherwise, they designed the center console, which now flaunts a stylish analog clock. Among the interior innovations, it is also worth noting the multifunctional steering wheel, which can be 2, 3 or 4-spoke, depending on the preferences of the buyer. In addition, an analog clock appeared in the cabin. For interior trim, the highest quality and most expensive materials are offered, including aluminum and real wood. Trunk volume is about 540 liters, when the second row is folded, the volume increases to 1,220 liters.

The line of power units, as before, is represented by gasoline, diesel and hybrid engines. The base gasoline engine was a 184-horsepower 2-liter unit for the E200 version. The diesel range starts with a 2.1-liter engine with 136 hp. for E200 CDI. The novelty will be the E400 version, which will receive a turbocharged V6 petrol with a capacity of 333 horsepower. But this engine will join the range of power units only in the fall of 2013. The flagship will remain the E500 with a 408-horsepower V8. All engines meet high environmental standards and show a modest "appetite". A pair of motors to choose from can be a six-speed manual gearbox or “automatic” 7G-TRONIC PLUS for seven positions.

The rich equipment of the car with electronic assistants deserves special attention. Electronic assistants, which are endowed with an updated E-class, are linked into a single solution called Intelligent Drive. One of the main suppliers of information for electronics will be a stereo camera located in the area of the interior mirror, which is capable of tracking what is happening at a distance of 500 m. out of lane, a pedestrian monitoring system that can initiate preventive braking to avoid a collision, and a rear collision insurance system. In addition, the family will receive adaptive headlights, an active parking assistant, a surround view camera and a traffic sign tracking system.

In January 2016, Mercedes-Benz simultaneously presented on the Web and on the stage of the international North American auto show the next, fifth generation of the "golden mean" of its lineup and a real bestseller - a three-volume E-Class with an internal factory index "W213". The car, which the Germans themselves call "the smartest and most technologically advanced business sedan", after reincarnation, dressed in the brand's "family" design, enlarged in size, and, in terms of equipment, completely swung at the "older" S-Class. On sale, including on the Russian market, the four-door appeared in the spring of 2016.

The exterior of the fifth-generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class is made in accordance with the current direction of the German brand - discreet elegance and sophisticated sportiness harmoniously coexist in the exterior of the car. At the front, the sedan catches the eye with beautiful complex headlights and a large radiator grille (its design depends on the version), and at the back it painfully resembles the flagship “eska”, flaunting spectacular lights with “stardust” and a relief bumper with two exhaust system nozzles. In profile, the "German" looks solid and dynamic at the same time, and all thanks to the long hood, expressive sidewalls and noble posture.

The overall dimensions of the “eshki” refer the car to the E-class according to European standards: 4923 mm long, 1468 mm high and 1852 mm wide. Pairs of wheels at the four-door contain a gap of 2939 mm between them. The "marching" weight of the car varies from 1605 to 1820 kg, depending on the modification.

Inside, the "fifth" Mercedes-Benz E-Class captivates with its splendid atmosphere, enveloping comfort and modern design language, which are combined with prestigious materials, excellent workmanship and a variety of proposed combinations. The interior is dominated by two 12.3-inch screens located under a common glass: the left one plays the role of the dashboard, and the right one is responsible for multimedia functions. But in the less rich versions, they give way to the usual analog “toolkit” and a central 8.4-inch monitor. A lean three-spoke steering wheel and a presentable center console, decorated with an elegant climate control, analog clock and additional buttons, organically fit into the atmosphere.

For front riders, the fifth-generation E-class provides comfortable seats with a carefully calibrated profile, good lateral support and a bunch of electric adjustments, which are optionally replaced with "active" seats with variable grip. The rear sofa allocates royal space to two passengers, but the third one may turn out to be nominal due to the high central tunnel.

The luggage compartment of the German full-size sedan in the "traveling" state can hold 540 liters of luggage. The "gallery" is folded in three parts, however, a smooth, but noticeable step prevents the formation of a flat floor.

Specifications. In the Russian market, the fifth incarnation of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class is offered with five power plants to choose from, which are installed in conjunction with the non-alternative hydromechanical 9-band “automatic” 9G-Tronic.
All-wheel drive versions are equipped with a “family” 4Matic transmission with an asymmetric center differential with an electronically controlled lock, which by default divides the moment between the axles in a ratio of 45:55.

  • Engine compartment modifications E200 / E200 4Matic And E300 given for the placement of a gasoline four-cylinder engine with a volume of 2.0 liters (1991 cubic centimeters) with a vertical layout, turbocharging, direct fuel injection, piezo injectors and phase shifters at the outlet and intake. In the "younger" case, the "four" produces 184 "horses" at 5500 rpm and 300 Nm of peak torque at 1200-4000 rpm, and in the "older" - 245 "stallions" and 370 Nm at identical speeds. To "hundreds" the car breaks down after 6.2-7.9 seconds, gaining maximum 233-250 km / h and "digests" 6.9-7.3 liters of fuel in mixed mode.
  • "Top" performance E400 4Matic equipped with a six-cylinder 3.5-liter V6 unit with a turbocharger, direct injection technology, variable valve timing and quiet chains in a 24-valve timing drive, producing 333 horsepower at 5250-6000 rpm and 480 Nm of torque potential at 1200-4000 rpm . The maximum capabilities of such a sedan are fixed at the bar of 250 km / h, acceleration to 100 km / h does not go out in 5.2 seconds, and the “appetite” fits into 7.9 liters in the combined cycle.
  • Diesel versions E200d And E220d(exclusively rear-wheel drive) are "armed" with a 2.0-liter (1950 cubic centimeter) in-line "four" with direct fuel supply, a 16-valve layout and turbocharging. In the first solution, the engine generates 150 "horses" at 3200-4800 rpm and 360 Nm of torque at 1400-2800 rpm, and in the second - 195 forces at 3800 rpm and 400 Nm at 1600-2800 rpm . Such characteristics allow the four-door to leave behind the initial “hundred” in 7.3-8.4 seconds and gain 224-240 km / h, while consuming no more than 4.3 liters of diesel fuel in the “highway / city” mode.

The “fifth” Mercedes-Benz E-class is based on the “rear-wheel drive” MRA architecture with independent suspensions of all wheels: a two-lever system is used in the front part, and a multi-link system on the rear axle. The chassis with steel springs is available in three solutions - regular, with a 15 mm lower ground clearance and with adaptive shock absorbers. Optionally, the car is equipped with Air Body Control air suspension with two-chamber pneumatic elements, single-tube shock absorbers and three operating modes.

The body of the German sedan is a mix of steel and aluminum (accounting for 16%). The hood, front fenders, luggage cover and suspension mounts are cast from the “winged metal”.

The power steering electric motor at the four-door is mounted on a rail with a variable gear ratio. “In a circle” the car is endowed with ventilated discs of the brake center, which is assisted by many modern “gadgets” (ABS, EBD, BAS and more).

Options and prices. In the Russian market, the 5th generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class in 2016 is sold at a price of 2,950,000 rubles for the basic version of the E200, a car with a diesel engine will cost 20,000 more, and for an all-wheel drive option you will have to pay at least 140,000 rubles. .
Regularly, the sedan demonstrates seven airbags, ESP, ABS, leather interior, dual-zone “climate”, full LED optics, 17-inch wheel rims, a multimedia system with an 8.4-inch screen, power accessories, an advanced audio system and a bunch of other “chips” responsible for safety and comfort.
For a three-volume vehicle with a “top-end” engine, you will have to pay from 3,950,000 rubles, and for “complete stuffing” - from 4,190,000 rubles. The most “saturated” equipment can boast of having a digital “toolkit”, a 12.3-inch multimedia center monitor, a high-quality audio system, 19-inch rollers, a panoramic roof and a large number of other “gadgets”.
