The three-door hatchback Opel Astra H GTC debuted in 2005 - a year later than the five-door, which became the third generation of this model. The prefix GTC in the name of the 3-door modification stands for Gran Tourismo Compact.

In addition to the different number of doors, the Opel Astra N GTS differs from the more practical version in its overall dimensions: the three-door turned out to be slightly longer and lower. Due to other bumpers, the length of the car is 4,290 mm (+ 41), width - 1,753, height - 1,435 (- 25).

Options and prices Opel Astra H GTC

The wheelbase (2,614 mm) and ground clearance of 165 mm are identical for both versions. But the volume of the luggage compartment on the Opel Astra H GTC was reduced from 375 to 340 liters.

Despite the rather simple design, the appearance of the 3-door Opel Astra H GTC remained relevant even after the release of the next generation car. In addition, it was on the model in the H body that the panoramic windshield that reached the roof first appeared. At the time of release, this solution was unique among production cars.

After restyling in 2007, the base 1.6-liter gasoline engine under the hood of the Opel Astra GTC H began to develop 115 forces against 105 before. Such an engine is available in tandem with a 5-speed manual, or with a 5-band Easytronic robotic transmission.

In the first case, the car picks up a hundred from a place in 11.7 seconds. (maximum speed is 191 km / h), and in the second variant, this exercise requires a second more, although the maximum speed is declared by the manufacturer even one kilometer per hour higher.

A more powerful 1.8-liter engine, offered for the Opel Astra N GTS in the Russian market, develops 140 “horses”. It is combined either in tandem with the already mentioned mechanics (from 0 to 100 km / h in 10.1 s, maximum speed is 210 km / h), or in tandem with a 4-band automatic, with which the hatch accelerates to the first hundred in 11, 2 s, and acceleration stops at around 190 km / h.

With an automatic transmission, the Opel Astra H GTC was offered only in the top-end Cosmo version. The cost of a new car at the time of sales ranged from 606,800 to 712,800 rubles. Currently, a successor is presented on the market in the person, for which they ask for a minimum of 809,900 rubles.

Considering the technical characteristics of the Opel Astra H, it is necessary to take into account variations: more than 5 different engine sizes, a sedan, a station wagon, two hatchbacks and a convertible, 3 configurations.

Opel Astra H - specifications for the whole family

The technical characteristics of the Opel Astra H cannot be described in one paragraph. Because the Astra H is not just one car, it's a whole family. A line of at least 5 cars. Identical at first glance, but different in essence, in their driving performance, appearance and size.

Astra H began to be produced in 2004. In 2007, experienced a slight restyling. The technical characteristics of the engines have undergone changes. They have become more powerful, economical and environmentally friendly. The front bumper, mirrors, and some trim elements have also changed. Astra H is still being produced, in a station wagon, sedan or 5-door hatchback, but already under the name Astra Family.

Body and chassis Opel Astra H

The body line has a rich choice: sedan, station wagon, 5-door hatchback, 3-door GTC hatchback, and Astra TwinTop convertible coupe. The technical characteristics of the various body types of the Opel Astra are similar, but there are differences. The wheelbase of the sedan and station wagon is 2703 mm, and the hatchback and convertible are 2614 mm.

The turning radius is about the same for everyone, about 11 m. The trunk volumes of the sedan and station wagon are surprisingly the same, 490 liters each. The 5-door hatchback has 375 liters, the GTC has 340 liters and the convertible has 205 liters. The volume of the gas tank on all Opel Astra is 52 liters.

The front suspension in the Astra H is MacPherson linkage, with telescopic struts, coil springs, and an anti-roll bar. The rear suspension in Opel Astra cars is semi-independent, lever-spring with trailing arms.

Options Opel Astra H

There are 3 trim levels on Astra H: Essentia, Enjoy, Cosmo. The simplest - Essentia, includes a steering wheel trimmed with leather, air conditioning, heated front seats. Enjoy adds climate control and a light sensor. Cosmo - the maximum configuration, boasts 16-inch alloy wheels, a rain sensor, seats with eco-leather inserts. Also available for the 3-door hatchback is an option with a panoramic roof. Available only on the GTC hatchback, the OPC trim adds sporty body kits, 17-inch wheels and Recaro seats. Also, station wagons and sedans have additional cigarette lighters in the trunk to install a refrigerator in the trunk. In 2008, it was possible to purchase a version of the Astra H Limousine, but only on order, from Germany.

Technical equipment and Specifications Opel Astra H

The least powerful, but at the same time the most reliable engine offered for the third Astra is a four-cylinder gear with a volume of 1.4 liters. The power of the sixteen-valve 1.4 Opel is 90 horsepower.

The Astra H engine range includes two 1.6 petrol engines. The first produces 105hp, and the power of the second is 10 horsepower higher - 115 horsepower. On 1.6 engines, with a mileage exceeding 40,000 km, vibration was noticed at a speed in the range of 2,500 - 3,000, as a rule, this unpleasant moment is associated with the variable valve timing system.

1.8L engines produce 125 and 140 horsepower. Power plants with a volume of 1.8 liters with a run of 70,000 suffer from leakage of the camshaft oil seal, and the front crankshaft oil seal may also leak. Also, on engines with a volume of 1.6 and 1.8 liters, with runs over 50,000 km, the camshaft gear may jam. As a rule, before this, when starting the engine, a rattle is heard for a length of 2-3 seconds.

The most powerful gasoline units are 2.0L turbocharged engines. Their power: 170, 200 and 240 hp.

Turbodiesel engines were installed on the Opel Astra H 2004 - 2010: 1.3 - 90hp, 1.7 - 80 and 100hp, 1.9 - 120 and 150hp. According to experts, it is better to buy a gasoline Astra, since diesel engines require even more attention than Opel gasoline units. If the power dropped significantly on the diesel Astra and the car began to smoke, the reason may be the particulate filter, which is already asking for replacement. A dual-mass flywheel is installed on Astra diesel modifications, over time it becomes the cause of knocks and vibrations, as a rule, replacement will be required after a run of 150,000 km.

On Astra modifications with 1.4 and 1.6L engines, drum brakes are installed at the rear, on more powerful Astras, disc brakes on all wheels. Astra front pads are enough for 30,000 km, rear - drum pads for 60,000 km. The Astra brake discs themselves serve 60,000 km.

It is best to buy a used aster with a manual transmission. The mechanics from repair to repair will last at least 100,000 km, and sometimes 200,000 km. The reverse gear of the Astra manual box is not equipped with a synchronizer, which is why immediately after stopping, the reverse gear on the Astra does not turn on well.

The Astra four-speed automatic is equipped with a winter mode, but if you don’t use it for a long time, one day the activation button may simply not work. Jerks when switching from first to second on this box are considered the norm, but jerks when switching from second to third indicate a malfunction. In some cases, repair will require replacing the valve body. A gearbox cooling radiator is built into the body of the Astra automatic transmission, it happens that the coolant flows and mixes with oil, which also does not increase the life of the unit.

A robotic gearbox with a run of 100,000 km will ask for a replacement fork. Usually, before the bulkhead, the Easy Tronic robot serves more than 100,000 km, in order not to shorten the life of the robotic gearbox during a short stop, neutral gear should be engaged.

Astra's suspension is quite hardy. According to the owners, she is harsh. Most often, stabilizer struts and tie rods are changed in the Opel chassis, this operation is carried out with a run of 50,000 km.

Price

You can buy Opel Astra H 2004 - 2010 in almost any city in the CIS. Price Opel Astra H 2007 $11,000 - $12,000. Astra is a good option for a person living in the city, a moderately fast car with a non-gluttonous engine and a spacious interior, besides, Astra has a good level of safety.

Figures and facts

According to statistics, Opel Astra H is one of the cars that lose the least value over time. Plus the relative cheapness of maintenance. And adding to this the technical specifications and a large selection, we can conclude that the Opel Astra definitely deserves attention.

OPEL ASTRA - TUNING

Opel Astra (from the Latin "Star") - a small family car produced by a German company since 1991, is a continuation of the Opel Kadett line.

In England, Opel Astra is produced as Vauxhall Astra, Buick Excelle XT in China and Chevrolet Astra/Vectra in Latin America. In Australia, the Holden Astra was discontinued in 2009 due to exchange rate fluctuations, making the car uncompetitive. The car was replaced by the Holden Cruze but returned to the market in 2012 as the Opel Astra.

Astra F (1991-1998)

Opel Astra F debuted in October 1991. The car was offered in several body styles - a three- or five-door hatchback, a sedan and a station wagon known as the Caravan. A convertible was also offered, designed and built by Bertone in Italy. Although the Astra F was released in Germany in 1998, the Polish Astra in Central and Eastern Europe, as well as Turkey, was called Astra Classic from 1998 to 2002.

The Opel Astra F was redesigned in 1995 with the launch of the new Opel Ecotec engine. Other major changes included a slightly revised exterior design and the availability of new specifications.

The leading model of the Astra F was the GSi, which had a 2.0-liter I4 16V petrol engine producing 151 hp. and was available as a three-door hatchback. The car also received an extended sports body and sports seats. However, it was replaced in 1995 and was renamed SPORT. A very limited number of these models were produced. The body kit was removed and the car received a less powerful, but more modern "Ecotec", X20XEV (136 hp). In Europe from 1994, all Astra models had the 2.0-litre 16V ECOTEC X20XEV in parallel with the 2.0-litre 8V (C20NE), but three-door and wagon models had the C20XE with 151 hp. Some Astra models also had a 1.6-liter engine with 83 hp.

The Astra F was replaced by the new generation Astra G in 1998, and the C20XE engine was also discontinued.

AstraG (1998-2004)

Production of the second generation Astra G was launched in Europe in 1998. The Astra G was available as a 3 and 5 door hatchback, 4 door sedan, 5 door station wagon, and two special editions from 2000, the Astra Coupe and Astra Cabrio, designed and built by Bertone.

The second generation Astra has received a more aerodynamic shape. The car became more functional, more ergonomic, improved driving performance, and safety was also improved, which was provided by four (or six on request) airbags.

For coupe and convertible models, the OPC (Opel Performance Center) specification was first proposed, which since 1999 had a turbocharged X20XER engine with 160 hp, and from 2002 to 2004 - a Z20LET engine with 192 and 200 horsepower.

In 2004, the Russian joint venture GM-AvtoVAZ launched a four-door version of the Astra G badged as the Chevrolet Viva. Sales were poor from the start due to the high price. In 2004, production of the second generation Astra G was discontinued.

Astra H (2004-2010)

The Astra H was launched in March 2004 as a five-door hatchback. A five-door station wagon appeared in late 2004, while the GTC (Gran Tourismo Compact) three-door sport hatchback (in Europe) or Sport Hatch (in the UK) was launched in 2005. The GTC has a "panoramic windshield" option.

The car was built on the basis of the new Delta platform, so its size has increased compared to the previous generation.

An important detail of any major European car is the presence of a digital radio, which was available on this generation of Astra, along with electronic Continuous Damping Control (CDC) and AFL (Adaptive Lighting System).

In 2007, the model received some exterior upgrades, including new front and rear bumpers, lights and other details.

OPC

In 2005, Opel introduced the OPC version on the Astra GTC, which was powered by an updated version of the ECOTEC 2.0-litre turbo engine (Z20 LEH), producing 240 hp. and 320 Nm of torque. Standard features on the OPC version include a sporty Recaro body kit and interior, a six-speed manual transmission, xenon headlights, and 18-inch alloy wheels.

Astra J (2009+)

The latest generation Astra J is based on the Delta II platform and debuted at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show. The car was stylistically similar to the new Opel Insignia, and also adopted many technical details from it.

Astra received a torsion beam rear suspension, infotainment and navigation systems from Bosch.

In 2009, the car was presented in a hatchback body, the next year a station wagon appeared, in 2012 Astra J made its debut in a sedan body at the Moscow Motor Show 2012. Also in 2012, the OPC version was introduced, which has a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with 280 hp. and 400 Nm of torque. The front-wheel drive OPC has a mechanical self-locking differential capable of accelerating the car to 250 km/h.

Astra is a very popular model. To meet such a car on the road is not uncommon. In order to make your car more individual and interesting, Top-Tuning offers various body kits for the third generation Astra. The body kit will make your car sporty and dynamic, set you apart from the crowd and make you draw attention to yourself.

The third-generation hatchback Opel Astra H debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2003, and the car appeared in Russian dealers in 2004. The model turned out to be so successful that with the advent of the assembly of the predecessor, they continued at the Avtotor enterprise in Kaliningrad, and the Family prefix was added to the name.

The design of the Opel Astra H hatchback is made in the style of the Vectra C model with strict body lines, large head optics and a branded radiator grille with a wide chrome strip in its upper part.

Options and prices Opel Astra H Family hatchback 2015

In general, the similarity of the Astra H with the larger Vectra added solidity and rigor to the model, and the sloping roofline and reverse-tilted rear pillars added dynamism and sportiness. This was successfully used by the automaker when creating the three-door Opel Astra GTC and Opel Astra OPC.

The interior of the car was also adjusted to the general style of the lineup. This is manifested both in the design and in the location of the controls, which you will not have to get used to when transferring to the Opel Astra H from other cars of the company of the same year.

Compared with the previous version of the Astra G, the third-generation hatchback turned out to be 132 mm longer - its overall length is 4,331 mm, but the wheelbase remains the same - 2,614 mm. The boot volume of the five-door Opel Astra Family is 375 liters, but increases to 1,295 liters with the rear seat backs folded down. The ground clearance (clearance) of the hatchback is 160 mm.

The base engine for the car is a 1.6-liter gasoline engine, which, after restyling the Astra in 2007, began to develop 115 hp. against 105 forces earlier. Together with it, a 5-speed manual or a 5-band Easytronic “robot” is aggregated.

As an alternative, a more powerful 140-horsepower 1.8-liter engine is offered, which can be ordered either with mechanics or with a four-stage torque converter.

For the hatchback Opel Astra H in the initial Essentia configuration with a 1.6-liter engine and mechanics, dealers ask for 710,000 rubles. The price range for a five-door in the intermediate version of Enjoy ranges from 740,000 to 780,000 rubles, and the price of the Opel Astra Family in the top-end Cosmo configuration with a 1.8-liter engine and automatic transmission reaches 815,000 rubles.

At the same time, for a leather interior, a sunroof, adaptive headlights, a navigation system, metallic coloring and much more, you need to pay extra separately.

Opel Astra is a small family car (niche “C”-class in the European category), which is announced in two 5-door versions (hatchback and station wagon), as well as a 4-door sedan. The model has a stylish design, competitive technical "stuffing" and an excellent level of practicality. All .

The car is aimed at buyers who want to have a modern car, but at an affordable cost. Not so long ago, the new fifth generation Opel Astra (K) was born. This happened in the fall of 2015 during the international exhibition in Frankfurt. Interestingly, Opel decided to declassify its new product ahead of schedule in early June.

The vehicle has retained the proportions of the previous model, however, it has become brighter, lighter and more technologically advanced in all respects. Following the official presentation, the hatchback should reach the shelves of European dealers, but for our customers the car is unlikely to reach. It's all to blame for the recent departure of the brand from the Russian market.

Car history

First generation Astra F (1991-1997)

The debut family of cars of the compact class Opel Astra has been produced since July 1991. In the fall of 1994, the vehicle underwent minor improvements. Cars were produced in Poland under the name Astra Classic. The Opel Astra (F) serves as the successor to the Opel Kadett (E) and is the sixth version in the Kadett/Astra series.

After the 1994 update, they began to produce an upgraded version of the Astra (F) machine, which received improved corrosion protection. It's nice that the company took into account the desire of customers and allowed as an option to install a four-speed automatic transmission from the Japanese company Aisin AW.

Like other Opel cars that were produced in previous years, the Astra (F) body did not have a zinc protective coating, however, the quality of the paintwork was quite good. This moment allowed the company to guarantee its products for 6 years. It concerned the body, and to be more precise, its invulnerability to rust.

In addition to the 3- and 5-door body, the Opel Astra had a sedan and station wagon version. A small amount produced a 3-door station wagon (this version did not have glazing). It is also very rare to find the Opel Astra model in the back of a convertible, which has been produced since 1993 at the facilities of the enterprise.

A small number produced a 3-door station wagon

As mentioned above, 3 years after the presentation of the car, modernization was carried out. Thanks to the update, new turn signals and a radiator grill began to be installed. If before the turn signals were orange, then restyling changed them to white.

The appearance of the Opel Astra (F) of the 1st family is called calm and a little classic. It will not be superfluous to note that this model does not have an overpriced price tag, so many people, when choosing inexpensive cars, prefer the European, and not or.

It is very pleasant that after the 1994 update, all Opel Astra (F), even in the basic version, had a hydraulic power steering. In addition, the minimum equipment had front electric windows.

Opel Astra Convertible

The basic music system of a German car has 4 speakers. Even then, the German company was seriously concerned about the level of safety, equipping its models with belt tensioners with squibs, which, coupled with front airbags available in the minimum configuration, significantly increased the level of safety in the first generation Opel Astra (F).

If we talk about the ventilation system, then it had air recirculation, blocking the path of outside air inward. Already in the next 1995, the debut version had a new front panel. The interior of the "German" had a clear and understandable dashboard, which displayed the main data of the car.

The steering wheel was comfortable and large. To the left of it was a “twist” of lighting with an adjustment function, as well as buttons for turning on the front and rear fog lights. The front seats are quite comfortable and have good lateral support.

The center console received a "pocket" of small size, at the end of which information was displayed on the time, date and temperature overboard. The back of the rear sofa, according to the owners of the first generation Opel Astra, turned out to be a bit short. The sedan version was equipped with a luggage compartment containing 500 liters. Three and five-door hatchback could boast only 360 liters of usable space.

From the very beginning, only gasoline power units were installed on German cars, with a volume of 1.4 to 2.0 liters. All engines had an electronic fuel supply system, however, some markets could see the first carbureted engines, such as 14NV 1.4 liters, which developed 75 horsepower. The cars began to be equipped with a diesel power plant 3 months after the release of the car.

Initially, only one diesel engine was available - 17YD 1.7 liters, developing 57 "horses". The transmission can be a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic (Aisin).

It is noteworthy that the Opel Astra (F) I generation had a wide range of active and passive security systems. During the design of the machine with the help of a computer, specialists were able to calculate the stiffness elements. The body was distinguished by torsion strength. Installed height-adjustable seat belts.

The seats, along with the seat belt anchors, are designed to prevent slipping of the one sitting under the belt. The Astra (F) had an optional airbag for the owner. At the end of 1994, 2 airbags began to be installed in serial order. Electronics, in the form of an anti-lock braking system, could be installed optionally until the very end of the car's production.

As for the suspension, it was moderately soft and comfortable, and with the help of an anti-roll bar front and rear, the cars held the road well. A McPherson-type independent suspension was installed in front, and semi-independent at the rear, where springs and shock absorbers were separately installed.

The steering wheel had a rack and pinion mechanism and was distinguished by acceptable information content. As a brake system, disc devices were installed in front, and a drum mechanism in the back.

Second generation Astra G (1998-2004)

In 1997, during the next Frankfurt Motor Show, the second Opel Astra family, which received the index (G), was presented for the first time. Interestingly, they decided not to take anything from the previous generation - it was a newly designed machine.

Production of the 2nd generation Opel Astra was stopped in 2004, but the car continued to be sold in Russia until the first half of 2005. This option is called more "compartment" in terms of design. The novelty began its life as a 3- and 5-door C-segment hatchback, there was also a station wagon, convertible, coupe and a well-known sedan.

A fully galvanized body is one of the factors that made the Astra 2 family a revolutionary machine. Chassis, ergonomics, design, body, all decided to radically revise and design almost anew. They decided not to change only the ideology of the model - the possibility of completing for any stylistic decision, character, temperament and financial condition of a person.

The release of Asters in the back of a coupe and a convertible was carried out by a company from Italy - Bertone. The drag coefficient of the German car in the "sedan" version was 0.29. A convertible with a lowered roof received only a slightly increased figure - 0.32.

The cone-shaped style of the 2nd generation Opel Astra has bright brand features in which you can clearly recognize vehicles from Rüsselsheim. It turned out to be a truly stylish car. The soft curves of the surfaces, which contrast with the edges and lines, do not lose the integrity that was the case with previous Astra models.

The body also has a sporty touch. They decided to move the windshield forward by 120 millimeters, which made it possible to emphasize the wedge-shaped body type, visually reducing the dimensions of the hood. The salon turned out to be simple and concise. Among the innovations, one can name the presence of a liquid crystal display of the onboard computer and an airbag for the passenger.

If we compare the new product with its “cramped” predecessor, then the 2nd generation Opel Astra turned out to be more spacious. It often happens that due to significant temperature differences inside the car and outside, the windshield may crack. Even the company's management itself recognized the problem of insufficient glass strength and quite often replaced the front glass under warranty.

The designers decided to borrow the pedal assembly from (B), and this is expressed in the fact that in the event of a serious collision, the pedals are disconnected, and this, in turn, does not allow them to “leave” into the salon. The basic version of the Opel Astra (G) has a driver's airbag, however, you can often find 4 or even 6 Airbags.

The luggage compartment of the German-made 3- and 5-door hatchback received 370 liters of usable space. The sedan holds 460 liters, and the record volume belongs to the station wagon - 480 liters. However, this is not all, if necessary, this figure can be significantly increased to 1,500 liters if the rear backrests are folded down.

The list of power units has economical gasoline engines, in the amount of 6 copies and a pair of diesel engines. The petrol list starts from 1.2-liter (65/48 horsepower) to 2.0-liter (136/100 "horses"). Such power plants comply with Euro 3 toxicity standards, which came into force in 2001.

Diesel engines received a volume of 1.7 liters, designed for 68 and 50 horsepower, as well as 2.0 liters, which develop 82 and 60 "horses". The latest division of ECOTEC engines has 1.2 and 1.8-liter gasoline units and a 2.0-liter “engine”. They are distinguished by a four-valve gas distribution mechanism and direct fuel injection.

Engine Opel Astra Eco4

On top of that, the 2.0-liter version received two balance shafts to increase the smoothness of its operation. The synchronizer is a 4-speed (Japanese company Aisin) or 5-speed manual gearbox with a hydraulic clutch drive. The chassis structure has received major improvements.

The front uses McPherson aluminum struts and a tubular subframe (on which the motor is mounted), and the rear received a torsion beam. As an addition, springs, gas-filled shock absorbers and the DSA system are used. The brake system has disc brakes, and in front they received a ventilation function.

Standard equipment has ABS from another well-known German company Bosch. Opel Astra (G) actually turned out to be practical and safe. Employees of the company were able to work out the structure in the field of security. During a vehicle collision with an obstacle, the power unit goes under the bottom, and thanks to the directional deformation of the body, it is possible to save the necessary living space inside the car.

In a side impact, passengers are protected by power beams hidden under the door trim. The built-in protection system allows you to save lives in critical situations. It has two full-size airbags for the driver and passenger, airbags in the back of the front seats, pyrotechnic seat belt tensioners. With the help of the use of steel of improved quality, it was possible to almost double the body's torsional and bending rigidity.

Third generation Astra H (2004-2009)

The third version of the Opel Astra was officially presented in 2004 in Istanbul. She decided to assign an index (H). The new model lasted in the automotive market until 2010, after which it gave way to the new Opel Astra (J).

The release of the third generation was launched at the Polish enterprise, and since 2008 on the territory of Russia. Opel Astra (H) competitors are KIA Cerato I , Mazda 3 of the first version, Chevrolet Lacetti and other vehicles produced in previous years.

The body range of the German car included a five-door hatchback, a three-door GTC hatchback, and an Astra TwinTop convertible coupe. The director of the Opel design studio in Rüsselsheim, Friedhelm Engler, who also worked on the Opel Corsa and other vehicles of the company, worked on the appearance.

If we talk about the dynamic “shoulder” line and streamlined roof, wide base with small overhangs, stylish headlights with lanterns and embossed arches, then they are the ones that can make this car one of the most attractive golf-class players. It is also important that the third generation Opel Astra (H) is a fairly “free” option, suitable for both men and women.

It's not just because of the design. “The five-door is utilitarian, despite its bright and catchy originality. The vehicle is simple and undemanding to drive, and the interior will not get bored. It is quite funny that the drag coefficient of the Opel Astra (H) did not decrease, as in the previous model, but increased.

Now this figure was 0.32 versus 0.29 for the old version. In addition, the novelty has become 60 kilograms heavier, and the wheelbase has increased by 8 millimeters. In addition to the popular hatchback version, they also produced a sedan, which many motorists also liked. The body of the German vehicle was covered with a protective layer of zinc, however, based on the feedback from the owners, questions about the quality of painting still appeared.

Opel Astra TwinTop

The interior decoration is made in the German style. The central console is not loaded with buttons, and the dashboard, made in the same style as the hood, is “forked” by a kind of “keel”. Regarding the upholstery materials, they are soft and pleasant to the touch. Separately, they can please the door panels, which are covered with artificial leather and stitched with stylish white threads.

Thanks to the comfortable seats of the 3rd generation Opel Astra, you can easily tune in to the trip, relax and calm down. The pedals are soft and light. The steering wheel has an electric power.

There is enough free space, but nothing more. The volume of the luggage compartment of the sedan and station wagon versions is surprisingly the same - 490 liters. The five-door hatchback received 375 liters, and the Opel Astra H GTC version received 340 liters of usable space. Only the convertible version has the smallest trunk - 205 liters.

From 2004 to 2008, the German car was equipped with gasoline-powered engines with the following technical characteristics:

  • 1.4 liters (75 "horses);
  • 1.6 (105 horsepower);
  • 1.8 (125 horsepower).

There was also a diesel 1.7-liter version, designed for 101 horsepower. When restyling took place (in 2007), production continued with motors:

  • 1.4 (90 horsepower),
  • 1.6 (105 "horses"
  • 1.8 (140 "hooves").

The diesel side was represented by two diesel engines - a 1.7-liter CDTI, which developed 125 "horses" and a 1.3-liter, which produces 90 horsepower. All gasoline installations use a belt in the gas distribution mechanism, which must be replaced every 90,000 to 110,000 kilometers.

A separate "individual" is considered the version of the ORS, representing the sports model Opel Astra (N). It has a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine capable of delivering 240 horsepower.

Such "engines" work together with a mechanical, robotic and automatic transmission. They can be installed on any body at the request of the buyer. All torque is transmitted from the box only to the front wheels. The suspension turned out to be collected and a little stiff, which is well reflected in fast turns by the absence of rolls and the quick reaction of the chassis to the actions of the steering wheel.

Opel Astra (H) sedan

There is an independent suspension in front, such as McPherson, and a semi-independent torsion bar in the back. As mentioned above, the steering wheel has an electric power. The brake system is represented by ventilated disc front devices and rear disc mechanisms.
A version of the Opel Astra Family was also produced - representing a sedan body and Opel Astra Family Station Wagon, in a station wagon body. The basic equipment of the Essentia hatchback has:

  • Front and side airbags;
  • Fog lights;
  • Electric windows;
  • Power steering;
  • heated mirrors;
  • air conditioner;
  • Audio system;
  • Central lock;
  • Alarm;
  • immobilizer.

This version has a 1.6-liter 115-horsepower engine and a 5-speed manual.

Fourth generation Astra J (2009-2014)

The fourth family was demonstrated for the first time during the Frankfurt Exhibition in 2009. The role of the "first-born" was a model in the back of a 5-door hatchback. When the summer of 2012 came, this option, along with all representatives of the "J generation", underwent a slight restyling.

Appearance

It's no secret that German specialists are distinguished by their accuracy and pedantry, which can be seen in the appearance of the car. The headlights resemble eagle eyes. It's nice that they have an LED garland, which has become very fashionable today.

To achieve an elegant appearance for the fourth generation Opel Astra Jay, it was possible with the help of a squat shape and A-pillars that flow smoothly from the hood. To create an impression of lightness and not "sporty power", the design team decided to equip the model with a wide air intake under the front bumper, as well as emphasize the power of the shoulder line.

This made it possible to bring some kind of revival to the exterior of the car. You can also highlight the demonstrative blade-shaped punching element at the rear doors, as well as the gyrus going up and the visual transition to the rear pillar.

Such moments made it possible to create the appearance of the boundaries of the interior and visually define the dynamism and perspective, giving the rear wheel arches a massive look. The back of the Opel Astra (J) is recognizable only by the lamps, which have a mature style in the form of a double wing.

Salon

Turning your attention to the interior of the "German", you can see all the main advantages and disadvantages that are common to all cars of this brand. German specialists worked it out well. There is no mixture of various stylistic solutions, sloppiness, an abundance of combinations of materials, "squinting" under the skin, various motley inserts - everything is done in a neat and harmonious style.

As for the dashboard, it looks quite simple, however, it is stylish. Expressiveness is enhanced by aluminum look inserts on the steering wheel, doors and center console. But there are complaints about the quality of performance of some elements.

For example, the door trim and dashboard received oak plastic inserts, which are a bit rough. The glove compartment lid does not close tightly, making a slight play. Fabric upholstery in some places may already lose its "marketable" appearance even before the sale. The center console has an on-board computer screen, a “music” control unit and 2-zone climate control.

What surprised me a little was the introduction of the keys to enable / disable stabilization systems, the steering wheel heating function, enable and disable parking sensors, and even the sports mode button. Pleasantly pleased with the build quality. For example, the door closes quietly and gently, which is not typical for this class of car.

If the early models had poor sound insulation, then the 4th generation has already got rid of this problem. The company decided to invest a lot of money to buy improved noise insulation, which is easy to see if you look at the doors and the seals in the doorways. Among other things, I would like to highlight unusual “climate” deflectors that can dissipate air currents as much as possible.

The sports seats of the Opel Astra J are a perfect example of how to care about the comfort level of the people sitting in the car.

There are a lot of buttons, so you will have to figure out what and how, as well as get used to them. Under them there are compartments for the safety of the phone with a cigarette lighter socket and support for a USB connector and an AUX input. A selector "machine" was placed nearby, which borders on the on / off key for the parking brake.

Thanks to the installation of an electronic handbrake, it was possible to free up space for a compartment used as a cup holder. There is an armrest. Speaking in general, the German specialists “stuffed” the car with pleasant elements enough. I especially wanted to say about the illumination of the interior decoration.

The door handles, along with the gear selector, received a red backlight, and if you activate the sports mode, the entire “tidy” changes its color. It all looks really cool, especially in the dark - in a hatchback it becomes cozy, romantic and at the same time aggressive.

To say that there is a lot of free space in the hatchback does not work, despite the thinner back of the front seat and the increase in passenger space in width. The second row of seats received enough free space, which makes it possible to feel more comfortable, but nothing more.

The rear seat cushion is placed too low, causing real discomfort. The luggage compartment of the Opel Astra (J) received 370 liters of usable space, but if necessary, you can fold the rear seatbacks, which will already provide 1,235 liters.

The trunk is very functional and practical. It has hooks for attaching loads, lighting, a removable shelf, a stowaway with tools under a dense raised floor, as well as comfortable handles and more. What the Germans did not take into account was the large loading height.

Specifications

The fourth generation has engines with a capacity of 95 to 180 "horses". Five motors from this list are supplied to the Russian market. The gasoline line is represented by a 1.4-liter 100-horsepower and a 1.6-liter 115-horsepower “engine”. In the city, fuel consumption is from 8.3-8.7, and on the highway from 5.1-5.3 liters per hundred.

The first hundred kilometers is reached by the weakest engine in 11.9 seconds. These power units have turbocharged versions from 140 to 180 horsepower. The 140-horsepower version requires not so much gasoline, compared to the “younger” versions: in the city from 8.0-9.1, outside the city from 5.2-5.4 liters per 100 km.

Opel Astra J engine

The most powerful option in the city “eats” about 9.9 liters of gasoline, and 5.6 on the highway. It can reach 100 km/h in just 9 seconds. A 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel engine is provided, issuing 160 “mares”. Such installations work together with 5- and 6-speed manual gearboxes, as well as with a 6-speed "automatic".

The chassis, which works on a mechatronic system, was installed for the first time in the Opel Astra (J). Up front is a standard suspension with McPherson struts, and at the back there is a semi-independent beam, combined with a Watt device. With this suspension, it is possible to provide solid maneuverability and stability during turns, while maintaining comfort.

The designers equipped the “German” with an adaptive FlexRide suspension (optionally installed), which has 3 modes of operation: Standard, Sport, and Tour (comfort). Such electronics allow you to change the suspension setting, power steering and gas pedal sensitivity.

Safety

Since the car is positioned as a family car, the level of security must be appropriate. Looking ahead, I would like to say that the engineering staff of Opel was able to take care of this. Provides for the presence of 4 airbags, curtain airbags (optional), child mounts Isofix, ABS, EBD, ESP, HHC. Based on the passed crash tests from Euro-NCAP, the model deservedly received its 5 stars for safety.

Price and configuration

There are 3 fixed configurations available for our customers: Essentia, Enjoy and Cosmo. The basic version in 2012 was estimated at 599,900 rubles. She got:

  • ABS, ESP and many other assistants designed to make life easier for the owner.

Fifth generation Astra K (2017-present)

The world show of the freshest, fifth in a row, Opel Astra family of 2016-2017 took place only in the fall of 2015 in the German city of Frankfurt. The novelty will be produced at enterprises in England and Poland. The vehicle was able to maintain the ratios of the previous generation, however, it became brighter, lighter and much more technologically advanced in every way.

Exterior

Appearance Opel Astra 5 has many stylistic features that are similar to the conceptual version of the Monza and the "younger" Corsa of the last family. If there was a conservative look before, now there are bright and bold design lines, along with sharp edges.

The nose of the Opel Astra (K) five-door hatchback has stylish lighting technology (as a separate option, IntelliLUX LED matrix headlights can be installed) and a sculpted bumper with pronounced aerodynamic shapes.

Interestingly, the optional installation of LED headlights implies the location of 8 LED elements in each headlight, which work together with the Opel Eye camera located in the nose area. Continuing the theme of matrix headlights, with the help of an electronic unit they are able to analyze data from the camera and adjust the length and saturation of the light beam depending on the position on the road and the presence of other cars on the roadway.

Foglights Opel Astra (K) 2017 have new technologies and stand out for their ability to penetrate heavy fog, which significantly increases safety while driving.

The exterior of the "German", which represents the interests of Opel in a very competitive class-C niche, emits dynamism and pressure, multiplied by modern automotive production technologies. The hatchback looks like a modern and perky car from any side.

The bodywork is in perfect harmony with sharp ribs and punchings, bright aerodynamic fairings and stylish lighting, as well as refined lines and curves. The front end has an elongated hood shape and a voluminous radiator grille, where there are chrome inserts.

The aerodynamic front bumper placed fog lamps of a non-standard rectangular type on itself. The dynamism of the appearance is manifested with the help of expressive ribs on the sides, an actively sloping roof and blackened rear pillars, creating the effect of a “floating roof”.

The doors installed at the back with an ascending window sill line, which tends to ascend upwards, are very impressive. Adding charm to the already mentioned elements are external mirrors mounted on strong legs, an attractive rib placed at the level of the door handles, the correct radius of the wheel arches, a neat design of the aft part, which is decorated with modern pointed lampshades, which also received LED filling.

On the upper edge of the glass, you can see the chrome edging. The Germans decided to install 17-inch alloy wheels with a redesigned design. The back of the Opel Astra (K) 2016 is the object of many disputes and disagreements, since it suits some and even impresses them, while others do not.

On the line that connects the rear to the roof, there is a narrow LED optics. The upper part of the body has a small spoiler. The aft bumper turned out to be solid, thanks to the smooth punching lines. The trunk lid is compact.

Interior

The interior of the 2016 Opel Astra (K) has no less grandiose transformations than the exterior - almost everything is new here, from design to finishing materials. The driver immediately sees a “dense” steering wheel, which has a design in the form of three spokes, as well as a scattering of control elements.

Behind it, you can see the analog instrument panel, where there is a large multi-function display located between the speedometer and tachometer. The steering column has height and reach adjustments. In the central part of the hatchback cabin, an IntelliLink multimedia complex is installed, with an 8-inch touch screen (supported by Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto).

He was able to absorb an abundance of physical keys and switches, which made it possible to save the dashboard from unnecessary workload. The climatic situation inside the "German" car is regulated using a separate unit with a pair of massive "handles" and keys.
It is worth recognizing that the arrangement of standard equipment is a little simpler - there is a conventional radio, air conditioning and a simplified steering wheel.

According to the German automaker, the novelty has high-quality finishing materials that correspond to more prestigious cars. So that the driver and front passenger could comfortably sit inside, they provided high-quality anatomical-type seats, where there is a pronounced profile.

Depending on the equipment chosen, the seats can receive up to 18 settings, the function of ventilation, heating and massage. Salon Opel Astra (K) demonstrates new door cards with comfortable armrests and compact handles. The plastic on the dashboard is soft and pleasant to the touch, the plastic does not creak, and the gaps fit perfectly.

For passengers sitting behind, the designers have increased the free space (by 35 millimeters), and as a separate option, you can install the rear sofa heating function. However, all the same, the three of us will no longer be so comfortable. The central armrest is not provided and there are no air vents, but as a separate option, you can put a USB port.

The luggage compartment turned out to be perfect in shape, and its volume was 370 liters. If necessary, the rear backrests can be folded flush with the floor, which will already provide 1,210 liters of usable space. The "reserve" was placed in the department under the floor. It is of a small size type and is installed in the center. An electric drive is also not provided.

Specifications Astra K

power unit

For the fifth family of the German hatchback, they provided for the presence of Ecotec diesel and gasoline engines with a capacity of 95 to 200 horsepower. Starting the list is the petrol 3-cylinder version, which received a volume of 1.0 liters, which has a turbocharger and direct injection.

It develops 105 "horses" at 5,500 rpm and 170 Nm of peak thrust in the range from 1,800-4,250 rpm. It consumes a power unit of the order of 4.3-4.4 liters for every 100 kilometers in a combined cycle.

Next comes the naturally aspirated four-cylinder 1.4-liter engine that develops 100 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 130 Nm of thrust starting at 4,400 rpm. The "appetite" of this option is about 5.4 liters for every 100 kilometers in highway / city mode.

The third on the list is the productive version, which is a fully aluminum 4-cylinder turbocharged engine with a volume of 1.4 liters, which received direct fuel supply. Such an "engine" has several levels of forcing. In the "younger" version, it develops 125 "horses" at 5,600 rpm and 230 Nm of torque at 2,000-4,000 rpm.

The "senior" version received 150 "hooves" and 230 Nm with a similar number of revolutions. Such an “engine” consumes 5.1–5.5 liters in medium mode. The 5th generation Astra also has a four-cylinder turbocharged 1.6-liter diesel engine in 3 boost versions - 95, 110 and 136 hp. (280, 300 and 320 Nm respectively). Such an engine consumes from 3.5 to 4.6 liters of diesel fuel, which is a rather modest figure.

In addition, for the German hatchback, they decided to introduce improved engines that run on both gasoline and diesel fuel. The volume will be 1.6 liters, and up to 200 “horses” will produce such power units.

Transmission

A car with a 1.0-liter "engine" is synchronized with a 5-speed manual or 5-band robotic box. Such a merger promises to accelerate the hatchback from zero to 100 km / h in 11.2-12.7 seconds, and the top speed will be at the level of 200 kilometers per hour. And for the 1.4-liter atmospheric unit, only one mechanical 5-speed gearbox was provided, which accelerates the car to the first hundred in 12.3 seconds, and the “maximum speed” is 185 kilometers per hour.

Turbocharged aluminum engines work with two gearboxes. For the "junior" they provided a 6-speed manual, and for the "senior" also a 6-speed automatic box. You can accelerate to the mark of 100 km/h in 8.3–9.5 seconds, and the top speed will be 205–215 km/h.

For the diesel version, a 6-speed "mechanics" and an automatic box are installed as a pair. The first hundred is given in 9.6–12.7 seconds, and the maximum speed is at the level of 185–205 km/h. All motors transmit all the torque only to the front wheels.

Chassis

The new five-door version of the German 5th family has been built on the all-new D2XX modular platform that underpins the latest generation Chevrolet Cruze. The new modular "bogie" made it possible to reduce the weight of the load-bearing body of the car by 20 percent, and the weight of the chassis by 50 kilograms, when compared with models of the previous generation.

As a result, the curb weight of the 2016-2017 Opel Astra (K) turned out to be 120-200 kilograms less than the Astra (J) version. The exact weight depends on the selected equipment and equipment level. As with all current models, there is an independent McPherson-type suspension in front, and a transverse beam in the back, where there are shock absorbers, springs and an anti-roll bar.

The steering has an electric booster. The braking system received disc brakes on all wheels (the front ones support the ventilation function), as well as modern electronic "assistants".

Astra K security

Opel specialists developed the security system independently. 9 systems are envisaged and all of them fully meet modern criteria. The systems function a little differently when compared with previous versions. For example, the electronics that control dead zones are based not on cameras, but on radar sensors.

There is an active system that can monitor the markings on the road. In the event that the vehicle leaves the lane, the system will begin to steer, returning the car to its place. Based on practice, the electronics function confidently. The Opel Astra (K) is capable of avoiding collisions on its own. The car is able to recognize a dangerous approach, and at speeds up to 40 km / h it can independently brake without the participation of the owner.

When the hatchback is moving at an increased speed, an audible signal is emitted to which the driver must respond. If this does not happen, the electronics at the last moment starts to slow down. As a result, even if it is not possible to avoid a collision, then the harm will be minimized due to the fact that the impact force will not be the same due to the reduced speed.

The operation of systems that monitor road markings, recognize obstacles on the go, recognize road signs, and LED filling headlights work based on data from a camera installed at the top of the front glass.

Passive safety includes the use of high-strength steel, a rigid safety cage, elements with a programmed deformation, collapsible elements and parts with predetermined trajectories of the propagation of a collision force. There are also seat belt pretensioners for front-mounted seats, curtains and airbags.

The Emergency Pedal Release Service (PRS) is able to automatically disconnect the pedal mounts to prevent injury to the driver's feet and lower legs in a serious accident. The fifth generation, during the EuroNCAP tests, received a well-deserved 5 stars for ensuring the safety of not only the driver and passengers sitting next to him, but also other road users. Pleased with the presence of automated parking and a blind spot monitoring system.

Price and configuration Astra K

Unfortunately, the German-made novelty will not reach the Russian market, as the company has officially decided to leave the domestic market. But our neighbors in Ukraine will sell models. In total there are two complete sets: Essentia and Enjoy . In Europe, the 5th generation hatchback Opel Astra (K) can be purchased from 17,260 to 21,860 euros.

The basic equipment included fabric interior trim, two electric windows, a CD player with six speakers, a power steering wheel, ABS, ESP, front and side airbags, cruise control, air conditioning and a folding rear sofa back.

The "top" options already have front and rear cameras, the function of electric adjustment of the front seats, LED headlights for front lighting and taillights, parking sensors in front and behind, dual-zone "climate control", cast 17-inch wheel rims, a leather steering wheel and a gear knob , front armrest and more.

Comparison with competitors

The golf class is a fairly densely "populated" segment, so the Opel Astra has plenty of rivals. This includes the outsold, as well as Chevrolet Cruze, the ancestor of the class, Hyundai i30, Honda Civic, and other vehicles.
