All-wheel drive Renault Captur. Renault Kaptur automatic, all-wheel drive owner reviews: all the cons, disadvantages, pluses Renault Kaptur all-wheel drive

23.06.2020

For the Russian version RenaultCapture 2016(photo) the price is from 859,000 rubles and the configuration is significantly different for the better compared to the European counterpart. Our version of Captura, start of sales in Russia which is scheduled for June 2016, received a platform from the popular Duster, and with it all-wheel drive, which is not available in Europe. Such measures in the technical specifications not only make the crossover more capable off-road, but also significantly reduce the price of Renault Kaptur, which is very important in anticipation of the appearance of its main competitor - Hyundai Creta, the start of sales of which will take place in September. For Russia, the combination of a modified European body, interior and localized platform from Duster are vital factors for successful competition with the Korean rival and keeping the price of Renault Kaptur 2016 (see tables) at 859 thousand rubles.

Options and prices

The basic equipment of the Renault Kaptur (see table), bearing the name life, at its disposal will receive: air conditioning, a proprietary audio system with MP3, heated mirrors with electric adjustment, an on-board computer, power windows front and rear, steering column and driver's seat height adjustment, engine start button, LED running lights, as well as 16-inch aluminum wheels. In addition, for a surcharge, the Renault Kaptur 2016 price will include: metallic paint for 15,990 rubles and heated front seats for 7,990 rubles. Safety in the new crossover is provided by: the ESP stabilization system, 2 front airbags and ISOFIX child seat mounts. Recall that official premiere of the new crossover in Russia took place on March 30, 2016.

Next in the rankings drive equipment will raise the price of Renault Captura to at least 919,990 rubles. Unlike the initial version of Life, available only with front-wheel drive, 5-speed mechanics and a 1.6-liter engine (114 hp), the Drive offer allows you to have the entire line of combinations of engines and transmissions in the technical specifications of Renault Kaptur 2016. For the X-Tronic variator, you will have to pay 60 thousand rubles, and all-wheel drive is available only in conjunction with a 2-liter engine (143 hp) for 1,049,990 rubles, where replacing a 6-speed gearbox with a 4-band automatic will cost an additional 50 thousand rubles. For the complete set of Drive additionally provided: keyless entry with remote engine start, cruise control, heated seats, side airbags and 17-inch wheels.

As befits a flagship Style, the technical characteristics of Renault Kaptur do not provide for the initial combination of a 1.6-liter base engine and 5-speed mechanics. The countdown is from the 114-horsepower version with a CVT at a price of 1,029,990 rubles - the surcharge for a 2-liter engine with all-wheel drive will be 70 thousand rubles. And the top Kaptur 2016 Style with a 4-band automatic is offered at a price of 1,149,990 rubles. The package additionally includes: climate control, heated windshield, navigation system, rear view camera with parking sensors, rain and light sensors, fog lights and a two-tone body color. For leather interior trim will be asked to pay 35,990 rubles. The level of equipment of this version is very close to the initial configuration of the flagship model Renault Koleos.

You can also upgrade the Drive package to the flagship level. For an additional fee for this version, a two-tone body color (16,000 rubles) and 17-inch wheels (10,990 rubles), parking sensors (7,990 rubles) will be available. In addition, Kaptur in the Drive package allows you to choose 2 packages: "Multimedia" and "Climate". The first, at a price of 28,990 rubles, includes: a navigation system, parking sensors and a rear view camera. The second, for 22,990 rubles, implies the presence of climate control, rain and light sensors, heated windshield and fog lights. But you can order a leather interior only in the top-end Style.

Specifications

In terms of technical characteristics, Renault Kaptur for the Russian market will be seriously different from its European counterpart. The French version of Captura is based on the non-localized in Russia platform of the Clio urban hatchback, which is not only more expensive in price, but also significantly worse suited for off-road, including due to the lack of all-wheel drive. Wherein specifications Renault Kaptur 2016 in Russia they will include only proven naturally aspirated engines from Duster, while the European versions are equipped with supercharged engines demanding fuel quality. And, finally, the absence of capricious dual-clutch robots used in Europe in favor of classic automatic machines will allow Kaptur to increase the price in the “reliability” and “durability” nominations.

The technical specifications of the basic front-wheel drive version include a 1.6-liter engine with 114 horsepower and a 5-speed manual gearbox. Such a tandem accelerates Renault Kaptur curb weight of 1262 kg to 100 km/h in 12.5 seconds, top speed is 171 km/h, and average fuel consumption is 7.4 liters per 100 km. Variator version X-Tronic will be available for purchase only from September 2016, but its exact specifications have already been made public. The acceleration time to hundreds rises to 12.9 seconds, and the maximum speed drops to 166 km / h. However, thanks to a better selection of gear ratios, the average fuel consumption is reduced to 6.9 liters per 100 km, which makes the CVT version the most economical in the range.

Renault Kaptur 2016 with all-wheel drive and a 2-liter engine also declassified its technical characteristics. In the presence of a 6-speed manual transmission, the new crossover accelerates to hundreds in 10.5 seconds, has a top speed of 185 km / h and consumes an average of 8.0 liters per 100 km. With a 4-band automatic, the top version of Kaptur, the price of which is 1,149,990 rubles, reduces the acceleration rate to 11.2 seconds, the maximum speed to 180 km / h, and the average fuel consumption increases to 8.9 liters per hundred.

* - preliminary data

Having made a short foray into the territory of real off-road and got acquainted with the great and terrible, the heading "five things for which ..." returns to the cozy territory of "urban crossovers". However, is it really that comfortable? Renault Kaptur has been waging war for a month with another peppy upstart - Hyundai Creta, about which and which turned out to be, to put it mildly, not sinless ... So what prevents the "Frenchman" from gaining the upper hand?

Hate #5: Back row cramped

When laying out a compact crossover, as in principle when creating any small car, engineers solve this problem: why give a little more space in the back of the car - the trunk or the rear row of seats? In Renault Kaptur, the problem was solved in favor of the trunk, here it has quite decent 387 liters in its assets. But if you are more than 180 cm tall, on the back sofa you are hardly destined to sit with proper comfort - places in your knees when landing “by yourself” in a shorthand. This is not Capture's biggest problem, but many owners note it.

1 / 2

2 / 2

Love #5: Rich Options

But in terms of equipping with options, Capture is in full order. Yes, there are those who complain about clearly “marketing” equipment, forcing them to take almost “full stuffing” instead of the “middle”, but this is, perhaps, a common place for most automotive brands in the middle price segment. But those who have chosen rich configurations invariably praise multimedia, cruise control, as well as powerful heating and blowing the windshield. And at the same time, the price does not fly to sky-high heights - for a little over a million you can get an almost top version. A lot of? But in Creta, more or less decent equipment is just beginning with this amount.

Hate #4: Poor visibility

A rather unexpected drawback for a modern crossover, because we all have long been accustomed to the wide body pillars of today's cars - they are made as such in the name of passive safety. However, in Kaptur, the front pillars of the body (the so-called “A” pillars), apparently, also have an extremely unfortunate angle in terms of visibility - they are littered with the roof so much that almost every second car owner rests their eyes on them - and writes a comment full of dissatisfaction about it. Complementing the picture are small and uncomfortable side mirrors, with which Kaptur continues the sad tradition laid down by Logan ... No, the mirrors are completely different, but, according to the owners, they still do not have enough space.

Love #4: high ground clearance

Maybe not really out of place, but the UAZ Patriot comes to mind again - we got love for him with solid reservations: there was always some “but” on any plus of the car. Everything is not so bad with Kaptur, but this idea can be traced here too - there are those who say that the clearance is supposedly good, but more could be done.

Note that these comrades are clearly from those who moved from the Niva or (again, he, what is it, holy-holy!) Patriot. But those who owned civilian "bubblers" were completely delighted with the geometric cross-country ability of Kaptur. And indeed, 204 mm of clearance (albeit passport ones, with an error) is necessary and sufficient in the conditions of an average Russian city, where Kaptur is the right place.

Hate #3: No coasters

It is impossible to create a car that suits a Russian if there is nowhere to put a glass in it. But seriously, with useful volumes and cavities in the cabin of the Captur, it turned out to be a clear miss. In addition to the rattling "gazelle" box with a lid on the "top" of the front panel and rather modest pockets in the doors, there are simply no containers - there is absolutely nowhere to put any everyday small things like flash drives, pens, business cards and coins in the crossover cabin.

The only niche that these functions are assigned to is located under the dashboard, and it is clearly overloaded with functions - it contains a cigarette lighter, an all-wheel drive control washer (on 4x4 versions), and the same notorious cup holder. It is too small, glasses of any size do not hold in it, and high ones also interfere with the gearbox selector. The cup holder for the rear passengers is no better, you can’t put anything in it.

Love #3: informative steering wheel

And here we make a reservation - there are those who do not consider the Kaptur steering wheel to be adequately informative. However, if you take into account the rather civilian image of the car, the large suspension travels and by no means a low center of gravity, it turns out that the Captur's steering is really set up quite well. The electric power steering does not transfer too much road trifles to the hands (an exception is uneven turns at high speeds) and tells the steering wheel quite; the car stands well on a high-speed straight. Yes, this is not a sports car, but there is some kind of rally enthusiasm in it - thanks to a clear steering wheel and good suspension (see below).

Hate #2: Cheap interior design

Enthusiasm is ardor, and a Russian person loves to be richer, but for a rising price - whatever one may say, but from the inside you look at your car 90% of the time. And here Kaptur makes a mistake - the cheap hard plastic of the interior is noted even by the most loyal buyers of this car. This shortcoming, as it were, continues the previous reason for hatred - everything is not very good with the Capture's interior, starting from the texture of the plastic and ending with the lack of illumination of important areas and several illogically located buttons. Yes, all this is a cost of the budget. And even though the ergonomics of the interior space is well-adjusted, the feeling that comfort is a little short is visited by a fair number of owners.

Love # 2: good exterior

But passers-by hardly know about these sorrows - they still continue to turn their heads to Kaptur. Moderately catchy front, laconic stern, harmony in the proportions of the silhouette and an interestingly designed lower part of the sidewall, in which a wide molding forms a kind of "waist". Captur looks hot and very topical - it seems that at the head office of Renault they finally realized that even a not too expensive car should not look like a steamed swede. Both men and women note Capture's successful appearance - a rather rare case when a unisex design worked as it should.

Hate #1: Lack of momentum

This appearance and character would match! But no, judging by the reviews, none of the “engine + transmission” options provide sufficient acceleration dynamics. Owners of versions 1.6 MCP, 1.6 ACP (of course) and even 2.0 (ACP) complain about the sluggish nature of overclocking. The rather elderly four-range “automatic” installed on the Captur is trying its best to save fuel, poking the highest gear already at 65 km / h, but it remains gluttonous and does not add a fighting character to the car. Appearances are deceptive? Perhaps, in the case of Renault Kaptur, this is so.

Love #1: Proven Platform

But to put a new, in the style of the "foreign" Captur, the body on the proven "cart" Duster was absolutely the right decision of the developers. The suspension, of course, was reconfigured, but, having remained a little roll in the corners, it still swallows bumps of any type with a bang. It is dense and very long-stroke - this is something that most modern crossovers are sorely lacking, and, therefore, this is where the Capture utterly outperforms the competition. Excellent suspension settings can not be taken away from him. And that's great.

Interestingly, during the months of owning a new car, Capture, as a rule, does not reveal any significant operational defects, which is quite rare today. The same Creta, with which comparisons cannot be avoided today, has a sufficient number of acquired "jambs". However, the number of small, but sensitive design flaws that Captur has, albeit a little, but outweighs in the eyes of consumers the disadvantages of Creta, which has powerful engines, a solid interior and an equally rich scattering of options. Today, this is valued more than the absence of corrosion and problems with electronics. Perhaps that is why Hyundai Creta is in sixth place in Russia today, and Renault Kaptur is only in seventeenth...

But for both of these crossovers, which recently appeared on the market, the “bouquet-and-candy” period of life with their owners from among the first purchasers has already come to an end. And there is a feeling that in the long run Kaptur has additional chances for leadership... Let's wait and see!

Appearance of the car.
- Energy-intensive suspension. It swallows big bumps well. Comfortable driving. Travel, suspension - moderately soft, moderately hard, I like it. bumps, pits "swallows" class!
- Informative clear steering wheel.
- The washer reservoir is capacious.
- I liked the work of Cruise control.

Frankly weak plastic of the front panel with an excellent design, the designers did not have enough fuse for the plastic for the front panel, at least of average quality. To the touch, it is a tarpaulin boot, although it cannot be said that there is a phenolic smell in the cabin. Gives glare to the windshield. The joints of the dashboard and the right door do not match significantly. The panel gaps are different on the driver’s side, it’s not there, but on the passenger side it’s obvious, there is not enough rubber to cover the gap https://www.drive2.ru/l/10578994/
- Miscalculations in ergonomics, lack of cup holders (the one that is in the tunnel is terribly uncomfortable, the console between the driver and the passenger is disgustingly framed - this is the cheapest element of the cabin, also uncomfortable in everything, the position of the automatic transmission lever is not highlighted, everything is touchable, the engine start button and the armrest look simply orphan. The cruise control button and speed limit are located very inconveniently - under the handbrake handle.
- Although multimedia from LG is presented as a necessary functionality, I personally didn’t like it, and here’s why: the playback quality of MP3 files is very average, it doesn’t play video, you can’t even view photos, frequency adjustments don’t change the situation much. The screen is of low brightness and clarity, on a sunny day it is perceived unimportantly, the delay in turning on the rear view camera with dynamic markings on the screen when switching to the "R" mode, drowned out, started all the settings go astray.
- Absence of a normal wide armrest with boxing.
- Missing glasses case
- buttons for turning on the heated seats with the 1st mode without illumination, located not very well.
- There is no backlight adjustment mirrors.
- There is no illumination of the keys on the steering wheel.
- On the machine, there is a weak dynamics (with manual "poking" and with promotion for 4000-5000 it still goes a little.
- Small tank, I would like at least 80 liters for this car.
- High fuel consumption.
- Inconvenient adjustment of the central air vents.
- The A-pillars are wide and strongly inclined, which is why the “dead zone” is quite large. And the side mirrors would like more.
- Bolts for fastening seat belts without plastic caps (even on the VAZ they are closed)
- Little space in the back.
- Small trunk.
- The area of the rear seat (the back, where the mounting bolt is visible) did not have enough carpet, and also where the hood opening handle (maybe only me?)
- The rear glass is not glued evenly (clearly visible)
- After installing the trailer (I removed the bumper for laying the wiring and connecting), the plastic body kits of the rear wheel arches do not stand up normally, although everything is in place and all the latches are intact.
- I tried to sleep in the driver's seat ... an hour twirled on it and drove on. The more you lower it, the steeper the ledge rests on your lower back. I don’t know about anyone, but I’m full of crap. In Prior, Niva, Grant is better.
- Lack of factory roof rails (could have already delivered in the latest configuration).
- Alarm - low sensitivity, closing / opening on the key fob is not displayed, the maximum threshold for auto start at sub-zero temperatures is -5 gr.

A compact crossover called "Kaptur" (with the appearance of the European "Captur" and technology from "Duster") was first officially shown in the Technopolis Moscow innovation cluster on March 30, 2016 (its "technical details" were disclosed in May, and already in June 2016, sales started on the territory of the Russian Federation).

This car, according to official representatives of Renault, was developed with the active participation of Russian engineers - specifically for the market of our country, taking into account the "peculiarities of operating a car in Russia." Objectively, this model can be characterized much more simply - “glamorous Duster”.

The appearance of Renault Kaptur is designed in the style of the latest models of the French brand - the crossover is perceived as a real "strong man", but it looks beautiful and impressive from any angle.

The front of the car is decorated with expressive projector-type optics, encircling the “family” radiator grille with a large rhombus, and a relief bumper with C-shaped strokes of LED running lights, and its roasted stern demonstrates cool lights and a neat bumper.

On the side, the “Frenchman” is harmoniously tailored, and the sloping roof with the “sill” line striving towards it and elegant stampings add dynamism to it. Even more “cheer up” the exterior of the SUV are called for ample opportunities for individualization and light-alloy “rollers” with a dimension of 16-17 inches.

The overall length of Renault Kaptur is 4333 mm, of which 2674 mm fits the gap between the axles, and it accounts for 1613 mm and 1813 mm in height and width (excluding side mirrors). The bottom of the car is separated from the roadway by 204 mm clearance, and its exit and entry angles are 31 and 20 degrees, respectively.

In the cabin, Kaptur meets with a stylish and well-designed design, but it frustrates with the rigidity of the plastics used. The front fascia is boldly styled with a beautiful center console that exposes a 7-inch Media Navi multimedia system and a complex air conditioning unit. In direct control of the driver are a three-spoke steering wheel with a relief rim, as well as a nice and concise “toolkit” with a digital speedometer.

There are five seats, but the rear sofa, despite the comfortable profile, does not differ in excess of free space - there is not much of it at the feet for tall passengers, and the sloping roof slightly presses on the heads.

The front seats in the crossover are simple, without much support on the sides, but with a wide range of adjustments.

The cargo compartment with even walls in the "campaign" form is not impressive in size - its volume is 387 liters. The back of the "gallery" is folded in a pair of unequal parts (in a ratio of 60:40), but in this case a completely flat floor does not work. A narrow spare wheel measuring 145/90/R16 is laid in a niche under the raised floor.

Specifications. The range of power units for Captura was borrowed from the Duster - under the hood of a compact French SUV there are four-cylinder aspirated gasoline engines with multi-point injection technology, in-line configuration and a 16-valve timing:

  • the base is a 1.6-liter engine of the Renault-Nissan alliance, producing 114 “mares” and 156 Nm of torque limit,
  • and an alternative to it is a 2.0-liter unit that produces 143 horsepower and 195 Nm of torque.

As for gearboxes, Renault Kaptur has a fairly wide choice here:

  • "mechanics" - 5-speed for "1.6-liter" or 6-speed for "2.0-liter"
  • "automatic" - 4-band, for all-wheel drive versions.
  • "variator" - X-Tronic (which can be either "stepless" or simulate "shifting"). CVT is offered for front-wheel drive versions as an alternative to "mechanics" (by the way, not only more comfortable, but also more economical).

By default, the crossover is front-wheel drive, and as an option, a plug-in all-wheel drive system with a multi-plate clutch in the rear axle is offered for it.

Captura is based on the B0 platform with a fair amount of refinement, which is why the French company is asked to call it "Global Access". An independent architecture with McPherson struts is installed in the front of the SUV, and the design of the rear suspension is expected to depend on the modification: a semi-independent torsion beam on mono-drive cars and a multi-link on all-wheel drive versions.
The car will be separated by a rack and pinion steering with an electric power steering and a braking system that combines ventilated discs in front, drum devices in the rear and modern electronics.

Options and prices. In 2017, Renault Kaptur is offered to Russian buyers in three levels of "saturation" - Life, Drive and Style.

  • The initial performance is estimated at an amount of 879,000 rubles, and its functionality is formed by: two frontal airbags, air conditioning, an assistant system when starting uphill, ABS, ESP, 16-inch alloy wheels, electric side mirrors and windows, an audio system and a key- card.
  • For a car in the “Drive” version, they ask from 929,990 rubles, and its “signs” include: side airbags, heated front seats, cruise control, a push-button engine start system and 17-inch “rollers”.
  • For the most “packed” version of “Style”, you will have to pay from 1,049,990 rubles, and its “armament” implies the presence of: a two-tone body color, air conditioning, a multimedia complex with navigation and a rearview camera, parking sensors, rain and light, windshield with heating and LED fog lights.

Reviews

The car looks modern, the design, I think, is good. It is important for me that everything in the car is not too complicated: the simpler, the more reliable. There are no turbines, no aluminum suspension arms, no high-pressure power supply system... It just makes me happy.

The motor is chain, runs quietly, eats with my quiet ride in the city according to the on-board computer 8.4 l / 100 km of the 95th. The variator is smooth, imitates the operation of the machine.
Dynamics, of course, calm - miracles do not happen.

Noise isolation pleases, the cabin is quiet. Enough space. The trunk is not a record, but, fortunately, apart from a couple of sports bags and packages from supermarkets, I drive nothing there. The music sounds so-so, listen to the radio and the flash drive will go.

Suspension from Duster, fulfills irregularities perfectly. The ground clearance of 205mm is impressive. It is comfortable to sit behind the wheel, there are enough adjustments. Was at zero MOT after a month of operation — no complaints. I don’t feel any vivid emotions, just a solid car.

Review of Renault Kaptur 1.6 CVT with front-wheel drive

Owner's video review of Renault Kaptur

The first thing you have to get used to is a 6-mortar mechanic box, while the 1st ponizhayka, then like everyone else - you can get under way from the second, i.e. in fact, the box is 5-speed, but with a "lower". You start off from the second, i.e. it is like the first, but in place of the second, the second in place of the third, and so on. a little strange, but you get used to it.

The first four gears are very short, starting from 60-65 km / h the computer asks for the 6th. At first it froze a little, but then caught up: cruise control. It turned out to be a very convenient thing: it accelerated to 60, i.e. up to 6th gear, turn on the cruise and then you can forget about the gas pedal on a more or less free track, adjust the speed only with the buttons on the steering wheel, relax. For example, on a cruise at 110-120 shows ~ 8l consumption.

Of the shortcomings, in my opinion: when buying, listen to the engines - in our first one, which we chose, after 5 minutes of warming up, a slight floating knock appeared, we took another machine. After I read that this is a common problem for these engines, and after a year it allegedly gets out for everyone, we'll see. Doors … do not close well, even after they have become a little heavier from Shumkov (there is something to compare with).

Ergonomics: you can’t get some buttons without looking (the same cruise control under the handbrake, for example), some buttons are not in their usual places. Too bad it doesn't have an armrest. Siduhi ... you can live, but the lateral support is rather weak and it would be nice to have an adjustable lumbar support.

Review about Renault Kaptur 2.0 all-wheel drive 4x4 with mechanics

After 1,500 km, the machine seemed to have changed. The engine began to give out its 143 horsepower. Appeared throttle response and dynamics. In city traffic, Kaptur drives with the Economy function quite confidently, now I don’t experience any difficulties. Fuel consumption dropped to 11.5 liters, which is quite acceptable for a two-liter engine with a gun.

On the highway, with a continuous flow and the need to quickly overtake, I turn off the Economy function, and my Renault Kaptur 2.0 4WD AT becomes completely different. Overtaking heavy trucks does not cause any difficulties. Acceleration from 100 to 130 is just a song, although you need to have certain skills to drive on the highway with an automatic transmission.

Suspension Capture stiff. On a bad road at a speed of 90 km / h, all small bumps are felt on the steering wheel and at the “fifth point”. I think the suspension settings and power steering affect. My old Beetle went through small bumps perfectly, you just don’t feel them, but it’s easy to break through the suspension in deeper pits. Capture does not allow penetration of the suspension, under any circumstances. Apparently, after all, Renault engineers prepared Capture not for highway trips, but most likely for off-road driving.

Due to the stiff suspension, riding on the track is not much fun. The automatic transmission is ambivalent. Four speeds are enough for city driving, and there are no special comments on the highway. But here in the city there are cases of hard switching from the first to the second. Not always, but there are hard jolts.

Where can I buy?

I can say that the automatic transmission did not disappoint me. Switches on time, without jerks, switching is invisible. Absolutely adequately and predictably works. The high seating position is nice. Good Shumka, the engine is not audible, the noise from the wheels is not annoying. I didn't notice any aerodynamic noise either.

Overtaking trucks on the track without problems, from 90 to 130 accelerates confidently without any kickdowns. At a speed of 110-120, the average consumption on the computer is 7.8 liters per hundred. The sound is so-so, weak.

Roman, review of Renault Captur 2.0 (143 hp) 4WD automatic 2016

Clearance. Declared 204 mm, "average" in reality is larger, while not a single curb was scratched in front. Hodovka on Renault Kaptur, in my opinion, is excellent, acceleration characteristics are better than on Duster. Naturally, I'm talking about a 6-speed manual transmission.

Even by car, there are excellent wipers, they clean without “snot”, a huge surface coverage and do not need to be changed for the winter. Seats: heaven and earth, compared with the Duster. Seats in the cabin, as in the Duster, the ceiling seems lower, and the sides seem wider.

The headlights are better on the one hand, plus the LED daytime running lights, but on the other hand, I liked the feeling of two beams of light more than such a diffused light.

Of the minuses of Kaptur, the trunk has become smaller. First of all, because of the massive plastic lining. A standard wooden-aluminum shovel easily climbed into the duster, not here. You can contrive and shove, but the shovel will scratch the entire floor.

Found a nasty glitch on the speedometer. Initially, the numbers were shown in a beautiful rounded font, but (possibly after the first frosts) then “burrs” began to be drawn along the edges of the numbers.

Of the critical — this is the gas tank hatch. Here they put the opening from the button (which, by the way, is in the very dirt next to the rug). Brilliant engineers pulled all the guts of the lock out (two thin latches) and did not work on sealing. As a result, moisture and snow get under the cover and the hatch DEFINITELY freezes. This is a very serious shortcoming.
