Peugeot is adding a new compact crossover to its lineup. The novelty will be called 1008 and will share the platform with the 208 hatchback and another 2008 crossover, also being prepared for release, according to L'Automobile. In length, the car will reach only 3.7 meters. However, the French manufacturer promises that the model will be "eminently elegant."
Little is known about the technical features of the new crossover. It is expected that the Peugeot 1008 will initially install only three-cylinder gasoline engines. Diesel or hybrid powertrains may appear some time after the start of sales of the model.
The tentative market launch of the Peugeot 1008 is scheduled for 2015. In Europe, the new crossover will be offered at a price of 14,000 euros. Apparently, Peugeot is trying to quickly occupy a free niche, which so far has been claimed only by the Volkswagen Taigun shown in São Paulo.

The French automaker Peugeot intends to expand its range of crossovers. Following the Peugeot 2008, which will roll off the assembly line in 2013, it became known about the creation of the youngest model in the line of crossovers. According to L'Automobile, the new SUV will receive an index of 1008 and may become one of the first representatives of a new segment - subcompact SUVs.
The Peugeot 1008 will be only 3.7 meters long (for comparison, the length of the "big brother" 2008 is 4.14 meters). The novelty will be based on a platform code-named PF1, which has already proven itself worthy in the popular 208 urban hatchback.
The exterior of the new Peugeot 1008 is expected to be inspired by the HR1 concept unveiled in Paris in 2010.
Of course, not all futuristic elements of the concept will be reflected in the serial Peugeot 1008, but it is already known that following the world practice of styling compact cars, the novelty will receive a number of individualization programs: from bright non-standard colors to unique accessories.
