The car is really reliable, maintenance is relatively inexpensive, soft, comfortable on the highway, no fatigue, consumption in the city is 13.7-16 liters, on the highway if up to 120 km then 10-11 liters, from 160 - 16-18 liters. There is enough power, the Toyota Highlander engine works very nicely, a classic V6. Not noisy, but I would like better (felt on the highway). Box tupit, but a matter of habit. Spacious, there is a flat floor at the back, there is a lot of space, I still can’t get enough of this fact, as well as the shelf under the dashboard - just an incredible thing (phones, sweets, napkins). A huge armrest (it’s good that a lot of things will fit in there, it’s bad that you gradually put everything that comes to hand there). Roomy. If you fold the second row (everything is very thoughtful and simple), you get a flat floor, two adults (for example, on a fishing trip) will be able to spend the night, I would say very comfortable. This winter we went to rest, 6 adults and Thule on the roof, drove without problems and fatigue, Toyota Highlander rides confidently in the snow. I traveled everywhere, I was very pleased with the cross-country ability (at least I drove where the X5 could not). From the house (where they lived) to the slope, they loaded skis into Thule and drove 3 km for 10-13 people (in crowded conditions, but better than on foot).

Cons: weak brakes, more precisely, when driving intensively, the brake discs overheat, as a result of which they are driven, the steering wheel beats - replacement. After the replacement, I drive calmly (I'm getting used to it) - there have been no problems since July last year. On Toyota Highlander you need to drive without frequent "braking" from high speed, impressively, despite the fact that there is enough power and you can drive. Music - everything is bad, especially the rear speakers - they can't do anything at all, above average - they rattle, it's impossible to listen. Perhaps someone JBL is different. Navigation - it is dangerous to believe it. Rain sensor - often lives its own life, still has not understood the algorithm of its operation. The trunk lid - all winter (exclusively in cold weather) composted the brain, then did not open, then did not close. I sprayed with silicone - nothing helps, at the first frost I will change the electric drive motor under warranty, but this (according to the dealer) will not help. The hood cover without pneumatic stops, the usual stick, the hood is heavy.

If the gas is to the floor, the engine spins up very quickly and the bass turns into a continuous rumble by 6-7. Not a screech, but a hum. Such a pleasant one. And the car accelerates very decently. Gear changes are almost not felt, everything is very smooth. I think that's how it should be. Consumption depends on the driving style (everyone is probably tired of this phrase), but it's true. In Moscow, without traffic jams, about 12, with them up to 20, on the highway 9-10, if you can feel sick, you can meet 7.5 in a short stretch. Once again, I am not a racer. Noise isolation is excellent, in any case, it was enough for me, I didn’t drive a German “troika”, but I think the Shumka is above average here for sure. The engine in the Toyota Highlander is not annoying, all the noise comes mainly from the wheels. In general, the interior is not explosive. There was only one cricket - it was fixed under warranty (more on that below). Places inside in bulk, both in the cabin and in the trunk, the third row has never laid out. The seats are not bad, not the best, but not bad, the leather is of good quality. The only negative is that the Toyota Highlander does not drive very well on rough asphalt or small bumps, every bump is felt and everything is transmitted to the steering wheel. Especially when you drive off smooth asphalt in contrast. Not very nice. Plus there is a dynamic discomfort from this. As always, where there is a plus there is a minus and vice versa. Realizing that for the most part I need a car for the highway and the city, choosing between Prado and Highlander, I chose Toyota Highlander, which I did not regret. Handling compares favorably with the Toyota Highlander. Flaws? Price? It is difficult to attribute this to disadvantages - such is the market. A premium car cannot cost as much as a Chinese. Fuel consumption? Under the hood, 3.5 liters and 249 horses - it is clear that such a horse needs to be fed. By the way, I fed the horse both 98, and 95, and 92. I didn’t notice any difference at all. 15 in the city and 11 on the highway. If you drive along the highway in economy mode, within 100 km / h, then 9.8 liters. Overtaking is confident, responds immediately. I would especially like to note the shelf under the dashboard: you lay out a hundred gadgets, nothing flies out, everything is placed organically. The only thing that slightly puzzled me was the halogen light and the lack of headlight washers in the restyled 2018 model. Well, I can’t call it a huge minus, rather a shortcoming. The engine range consists of two units. The first is a 2362 cc inline four-cylinder with 160 horsepower, twin camshafts, four valves per cylinder and an alloy head. The second more powerful V-shaped six-cylinder with a volume of 2994 cm³ with a capacity of 220 horsepower. Cars with an in-line 2.4-liter engine were produced with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, with a 3-liter engine - only with permanent all-wheel drive and a self-locking limited-slip center differential (LSD).

In 2004, both engines were replaced by a 3.3-liter V6 with 215 horsepower.

Initially, the car was equipped only with a 4-speed automatic transmission "Super ECT", a manual gearshift mechanism was offered as an option. In 2004, a five-speed automatic transmission began to be installed on models with a V6 engine.

Both suspensions, front and rear, are independent, McPherson type. The car is equipped with smart electronic systems: anti-lock braking system ABS (Anti-Blocking System), electronic brake force distribution EBD (Electronic Brake force Distribution), pressure control system in the hydraulic brake system BAS (Brake Assist System), automatic slip control system TRC ( TRaction Control) and VSC (Vehicle Stability Control). Like its younger representative, this engine is equipped with a dual variable valve timing system, but already has a 24-valve timing. From 0 to 100 km / h, the Highlander will accelerate in 8.7 seconds, the maximum speed will also be 180 km / h. The AI-95 fuel consumption, according to the data in the passport, will be 10.6 liters. The flagship unit is installed only on the Highlander 2014 with all-wheel drive, it is aggregated by the same 6-band automatic transmission.
  • The hybrid version of the Toyota Highlander combines a 3.5-liter V-twin gasoline engine with an electric generator, its power will be 141 hp. The engine is installed only on the all-wheel drive version of the Highlander and is paired with a CVT variator. As for fuel consumption, in the combined cycle this figure is 8.4 liters per 100 kilometers.
