Reviews Volkswagen Amarok. Reviews Volkswagen Amarok Volume and weight

Good afternoon, car enthusiasts! I sincerely ask you not to throw slippers, after all, the first review.

Preamble. I'll start my review with how I came to a car with a body called a "pickup". The first personal car after the parents' cars that I had to drive (Toyota Ipsum, Toyota IST, Nissan X-trail - all real right-hand drive Japanese) was the VAZ 2114, which terribly drank blood and became a culture shock for me after the Japanese.

After six months, he was replaced by the Ford Focus II, which is not deposited in the memory at all, because. was a simple soap dish and also six months later was replaced in 2009 by Mitsubishi Pajero Pinin (IO) - a good little SUV that served faithfully for almost 2 years. But its ability to transport things and cross-country ability was not enough, and I faced a dilemma about choosing a car that meets my requirements:

Transportation to nature of a large number of things, whether it be a boat, backpacks, tents, any shmurdyak, etc.

Increased cross-country ability.

Comfortable driving in city conditions and on the highway.

Price-quality ratio.

So, after looking at offers for the sale of SUVs and realizing that finances do not allow to reach fresh SUVs, and old ones are a roulette wheel, I turned my attention to pickup trucks that meet all my requirements for a car and have more attractive price tags.

Choosing and buying the first pickup... (Mazda BT-50). At that time, and this was the beginning of 2011, Mitsubishi L200, Ford Ranger, Mazda BT-50 were present on the market at a price that was affordable to me. Through careful searches, an almost runless Mazda BT-50 was selected, on which almost 90,000 km were rolled in a year without breakdowns and excesses.

Buying a second pickup... (Nissan Frontier D22). But in 2012, crisis circumstances intervened and the machine had to be changed to a cheaper one. So, Nissan Frontier (the same Navara D22) of 2000, 3.3-liter gasoline engine, on the machine, fell into my tenacious hands. With a huge mileage of 300,000 km.

But what can I say, having run 80,000 km under me, the car was still vigorous (the engine hardly ate oil, the automatic transmission worked without jerks) - the fact that in the Russian Federation before me the car was in the same caring hands. Of all my repairs: change the steering rack and oil every 10,000 km. Nissan Frontier is a super car, but eating 15 liters per hundred on the highway, and all 20 liters in city traffic jams is a bit too much.

Buying a third pickup... (Nissan Navara D40). Circumstances changed once again, and in early 2013 I took a 2009 Nissan Navara D40 with one owner before me. But, to be honest, this machine began to upset me very quickly with its fragility.

First of all, this is a very weak front suspension. Further, after 50,000 km (120,000 total mileage), the fuel injectors were covered, it was treated by repairing the injectors - replacing the atomizers, because. Replacing injectors is very expensive.

The turbine began to flow, and the front cover of the engine began to flow, the oil began to leave a little bit, and the hydraulic booster and automatic transmission began to show bad signs. In general, having suffered a little, I had to sell Navara with a very good discount to resellers, and again I faced the choice of another pickup truck.

So, having pretty much traveled around the salons of St. Petersburg, from the pickups that I had not traveled, there remained: Amarok, New Ford Ranger, Toyota Hilux and the already old Mitsubishi L200. This time, realizing that the machine is not taken for a year or two, the choice was approached more carefully.

Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux. The models did not please with their transmission. In fact, it has remained the same as on all previous generations - the drive of buildings, the front axle is connected only on off-road. Considering the previous experience of driving a pickup truck on winter roads and the fact that once I still flew off the road while overtaking (thank God, without consequences), I would like to have a center differential or a cunning transfer case like Super Selecta in the L200.

The L200 is undoubtedly a good pickup truck with a Super Select transmission, good reliability and safety margin, comfortable rear doors and normal passenger seating. But a significantly old model on the market, a very controversial and original design, very uncomfortable inside the driver's seat, a small body compartment (short length) and poor quality interior trim materials blocked all its advantages for me.

So, after reading all the available reviews, watching dozens of hours of test drives and off-road rides on YouTube, pretty much traveling around salons, torturing consultants, the selection curve led me only to Amaroku.

Fabula or Volkswagen Amarok. And Amarok was bought new from the salon. I will not describe the car dealership and the purchase process, because. hardly anyone is interested. Yes, and to advertise the salon, I think, will be bad manners. I’ll continue better on the pickup itself.

So, Volkswagen Amarok, judging by the documents and the cost, was assembled already in Germany itself by a gloomy German genius and the straight hands of Aryan virgins in the northern Alpine meadows in the light of the full moon in 2013. Options 2.0 biTDI Highline, 180 German horses, permanent all-wheel drive with Torsen center differential and manual transmission.

In a set of useful things: Webast (albeit without a remote control), rear differential lock, parking sensors, music, rubber flooring, dual-zone climate control. I did not take any more options (not included in the Highline package), attachments from the dealer with its clearly inflated (at least 3 times) price tags and I will not advise others.

A small disclaimer: I will mainly compare the Volkswagen Amarok with my last car and its main competitor in the market - with the Nissan Navara, so excuse me.

Impression

Compared to the Nissan, it immediately catches the eye, the Amarok is bigger and wider, which is true. Accordingly, the VW Amarok is more spacious inside: what is the wide armrest worth, and the Amarok is much higher in landing. The front seats are much more comfortable: there is a clearly defined lateral support for the seats, for which your back will thank you when traveling long distances.

The driver's seat, unlike Navarovsky, is on a skid and is easier to adjust in height, so that on the Amarok in the front seat, having driven back and lowered the back of the chair, you can sleep (in Navara, you could only sleep in the front passenger seat).

The only downside to the Amarok's seat is that the backrest is tilted with a wheel rather than a lever. Many will say that this is a plus, because. allow you to more accurately adjust the seat, but the 21st century has long been in the yard, and this wheel is a clear atavism. By the way, on Navara, the seat height adjustment was a wheel, and the tilt angle was a lever. Here it's the other way around.

The angle of the rear passenger seats is visually larger in Amorok, which will allow passengers to feel more comfortable on long trips, but the legroom is a little less.

On the Volkswagen Amarok, the front seats have a special shape for the comfort of the legs of the rear passengers, but, sitting down behind myself (height 178 cm), I understand that this is not very helpful. Here, by the way, L200 with its normal rear doors and seats bypasses all competitors.

Advantages

A very good, in my opinion, decision on the rubber flooring. Although I found floor mats at the nearest car market immediately after purchase, for only 1.8 thousand against 5 thousand from the dealer, which do not differ much from each other. Body: it is huge and even visually larger than that of Navara. I'm not going to put a body cover or a kung, because pickup trucks are more like open body. I put only a plastic liner and a box attached to the front side of the body. The plans are to install a safety arc in the body, additional optics on the roof and normal wheels for trips to nature. But so far I can not get a clear explanation from the dealer about the relationship between the warranty and reasonably acceptable wheel sizes. In terms of driving performance, Amarok pleases: 180 hp. and two turbines are enough to drive five of us and a loaded body on the highway. The suspension is comfortable, although it has a lower carrying capacity, but this disadvantage is more than compensated by the smoothness of the ride when driving on uneven surfaces, namely, on surfaces that we mistakenly call public roads. Consumption on the highway, if you drive in normal mode 90 - 100 km / h, about 7 liters per 100 km, i.e., according to the manufacturer, the tank is enough for more than 1,000 km. It has not yet been possible to check, but in the combined cycle of the tank, from the neck to the moment the reminder light comes on, it lasts for 700 km (an average of 10 liters per 100 km). I consider this a very worthy indicator, because. Navara on fresh injectors on the highway ate about 9 liters, and in a mixed one - about 14 liters, which is a lot for a diesel. By the way, opening the fuel tank hatch is very convenient on Amarok, compared to the same Navara, in which the tank was locked with a key, the lock of which very quickly failed and often jammed (salt is to blame). The downside of this configuration Amaroka, I note the lack of a downshift. There is no lowering on trim levels with permanent all-wheel drive. But when choosing a model, comparing the ability to move on any surface and at any speed with the ability to climb wild off-road, I decided for myself that permanent all-wheel drive is a much more useful thing (for me personally), because. ponizhaykoy on all his cars used very rarely, tk. the main mileage is trails and unpaved/country roads with more or less hard surface. Although it is interesting why the gloomy German engineers did not provide for a lowered range at the checkpoint on this transmission? From savings or according to the requirements of buyers? By the way, the first gear is very short - as soon as you start moving, you immediately have to turn on the second one. I don’t know yet whether it is capable of replacing the lowered row - operation will show.

Flaws

Of the interior decoration that was not liked on the Amarok, it can be noted that the back of the rear passenger seats folds out very inconveniently. In Navara, the backrests were folded in a ratio of 40:60, but here only in their entirety. Moreover, in order to decompose, you need to either climb onto the sofa and pull two straps at once or do it together. Very uncomfortable. Behind the back, by the way, there is quite a lot of space waiting for us: a first-aid kit, a compressor, a jack (native), a set of keys, a dynamic cable, a wind-moisture protective suit, stockings from OZK, etc. can easily fit. belongings needed on trips. The seats themselves - the lower part (under the butt which) is lifted manually and fixed with a cable for the head restraints - is also an atavism. In Navara, everything rose like a lever and everything itself was fixed. By the way, by raising the seats at Navara, we get a flat floor where packages and bags from the nearest OK, Auchan or Lenta were easily placed. In Amarok, by raising the seats, you get a podium. Okay, I would understand if there were niches for small things (like Toyota Hilux), but no - it's just a podium. Why, you ask? Dashboard: distinct and intuitive, everything is easy and understandable. Much easier than in Navara. Although music control on the steering wheel is not very convenient (the buttons are very small, for example, you can’t hit them at all with gloves.) There is also no engine temperature sensor, not at all. There is also a hint on the dashboard for the manual transmission, the computer advises which gear to shift into - funny, but not too necessary.The plastic of the dashboard and all the trim are clearly not made from the most expensive materials, but this is forgivable for a pickup truck - after all, this a utility vehicle, not a business class sedan.

Outcome

Epilogue: Volkswagen Amarok is a worthy pickup in the line of pickups on the domestic market. Not worse than others, but having its undoubted advantages and possibilities. If you don't know why you need a pickup, don't take it. A pickup is, one might say, a style or lifestyle, as well as a reliable assistant for all her occasions.

Volkswagen Amarok broke into the market 5 years ago, and since then there has not been a good reason to change something in the design or construction of the German wolf.

The technical characteristics of the Volkswagen Amarok even now provide it with, if not dominance, then a strong position in the automotive market.

general information

The start of production of Amarok was in 2010. When developing the concept of the car, the platform of the Japanese pickup truck Toyota Hilux was borrowed.

Main characteristics of Volkswagen Amarok Basis 2.0 MT (140 hp)

Performance indicators

Volkswagen runs exclusively on diesel fuel, and the volume of the fuel tank is considerable - 80 liters guarantee far more than one hundred kilometers without refueling.

The maximum speed of the Volkswagen Amarok directly depends on the engine power, but even for the weakest it is 163 km / h, and a more powerful unit allows you to reach 183 km / h. No less impressive is the dynamics - 13.5 seconds. up to a hundred for the basic version.

If you choose the top modification, then acceleration to the first hundred in 10.5 seconds. is at the level of good cars and crossovers.

Fuel consumption:

Engine

Both diesel power units have common features:

- volume of 2 liters;

- 4-cylinder;

- 16 valves;

- front, longitudinal arrangement;

- row configuration;

— Orientation to Euro-4 standards;

- the location of the cylinders - L4;

— direct injection of diesel fuel type Common Rail;

— supercharging;

- compression ratio - 16.5 units;

- piston stroke and cylinder diameter (in mm) - 95.5 / 81.

However, the settings and technical data of the motors are different. So, the first of them - 2.0 TDI - produces 140 hp. With. power at 4000 rpm. And he also has a high torque of 340 Nm, and it is already available from the very bottom - from 1,600 to 2,250 rpm.

A more powerful engine - 2.0 BiTDI - has a double turbocharger. At the same 4,000 rpm, it already develops 182 hp. with., and its torque is simply huge - 420 "Newtons" in almost the same range (from 1,750 to 2,250 rpm).

Transmission

Volkswagen Amarok has the most advanced transmissions in its arsenal - both manual and automatic.

The 6-speed manual transmission is designed with heavy loads in mind. She has a short stroke of the lever, and the gear ratios are optimally selected. 6th gear is used to improve economy.

8-band "automatic" - Amarok's business card! Its first gear allows you to concentrate maximum traction and do without a reduction gear. It is designed for starting and driving off-road, as well as on slopes. 8th gear is aimed at economy - it allows you to maintain low speed at high speed.

There are 3 drive options:

  1. Rear - does not affect steering, and during acceleration, the shift back of the center of gravity ensures the best contact of the wheels with the road surface;
  2. Four-wheel drive (plug-in) 4MOTION - it is activated with one button, after which the thrust is distributed in a 50/50 ratio between the axles, guaranteeing confident movement. If necessary, you can also include a downshift;
  3. Four-wheel drive (permanent) 4MOTION - comes only with superior comfort springs. Such an Amarok is equipped with a branded center differential of the Torsen type.

Amarok has a combined running gear, in which a fully independent, multi-link design of the front axle is combined with a dependent suspension at the rear - axle and leaf springs. The power steering of the Volkswagen hydraulic type. The front brakes are disc (ventilated), and the rear are traditional drums.

A feature of the Volkswagen Amarok is the ability to choose the type of leaf springs:

1. Comfortable leaf springs - they are designed for connoisseurs of comfort in movement. Providing a load capacity of 942 kg, the springs level out road pits and guarantee a decent ride;

2. Reinforced leaf springs - they are necessary for those who are interested in a maximum load capacity of 1,248 kg. These components provide protection against overloads, as well as the ability to transport belongings (when fully loaded) even off-road.

Owner reviews

Beautiful! Comfortable, a lot of space in the back, the iron is thick, although it rusts at the moment. Amrok rides and steers very nicely, controlled on asphalt. Excellent seating comfort and visibility. Good native light, sometimes they really blink, the car is still high.

Of the minuses: blooms slowly! The engine is working on the verge of its capabilities, there is no stock at all. Everything must be done with great care. The machine is strange, not very coordinated.

There are no factory facilities for transporting and fixing goods, except for 4 loops, and it is not provided - only collective farms. Any covers and kungs rub the sides to holes! The roll bar, which does not rub, at the OD complete with Canyon arches (they are really comfortable and allow the Katyusha to carry length gauges) costs 700,000 rubles!

Repair at the official space - the difference is up to 10 times! There is NO REAL WARRANTY! In the event of a break after replacing the timing, you will be refunded 500 rubles. for a belt, with a repair cost under 200,000 rubles.

And what exactly to expect from a commercial vehicle? Many other pickups, by the way, are not positioned as commercial ones. It would be okay, but the price tag is too high ...

The design of the VW Amarok, of course, is not for everyone, but square wheel arches are an archaism of American pickups of yesteryear (look at the Chevrolet Colorado), and “squareness in general” does not have the best effect on aerodynamics.

A small engine (only 2.0 liters) - all sorts of turbos, this, of course, is good and right, but the volume will never be superfluous. There is no interaxle differential - if you don’t get out of the mud at all, then you can, of course, dissect on rigidly connected axles, but in winter, in urban slush, you can’t comfortably drive either in rear-wheel drive or in full with rigidly connected axles, i.e. Amarok is far from universal. Well, to the heap - he has a cramped interior! There are pickups from the same class more spacious.

Volkswagen Amarok - a truck, what to expect from it. On the first Amarok, I put a cast-iron stove weighing 120 kg. I took it and wanted to hand it over to the metal acceptance. They could not open until the evening, everything was flattened. They lifted the board and opened it after about an hour, so it was dangerous to carry two bags of cement.

When dual-mass flywheels began to fly in large quantities, the plant threw off the program and unloaded the input shaft - this is the opinion of the plant. They installed these programs on the sly, and then they said that they installed a mandatory program without my consent.

So, this Amarok became quite a ram, not a wolf. You give gas, and he stands like a ram and thinks ... and then he starts to go ... And this is all on the sly, without my consent.

Enough. I will write. Bought a Volkswagen Amarok in 2012. Complete set for 1,560,000 rubles. I got everything I needed and left for 2 million. I skated 50 thousand km. and the dual-mass flywheel, the clutch disc, the low beam lamps burn no more than 10 thousand km. mileage, there should have been a box in line - they don’t go for a long time.

I decided to change to a new Amarok, also fully equipped, with a gun, paid extra and left again for two million rubles. Skated 30 thousand km. and welled box, front brake discs do not go more than 25 thousand km. Changed for my money.

I waited for a gasket under the kung for exactly a year, when they change it, but I did not wait. Now I'm waiting for the box, they promise to change it. As they change, I’ll sell it right away ... A full bucket, as they say, and not a car, although the first was assembled in Chile, and the second in Hannover.

Constantly petty work: either the buttons on the door will leave, then the wipers, then the seats, etc. ad infinitum ...

The owner drives an Amaroke 2.0 BiTDI (180 HP) 4WD AT 2013

I bought the first Amarok in 2013, before that there were three station wagons in a row (Ford, Honda and Subaru), so I could not get used to landing for a long time. With my runs (an average of 60,000 km per year), this is important, but then I got used to it and remembered the convenience of driving a high car.

General impressions: a comfortable truck, convenient for work and life, inexpensive to maintain (except for maintenance up to 160,000 km, I didn’t repair anything, and then replacing ball joints without levers cost a penny), it drives well both on asphalt and on other roads. Automatic and all-wheel drive work well.

Three years later I changed to a new Amarok, I do not regret anything. Of the advantages, I note a good suspension that “swallows” a lot of things without noticing, springs of 5 sheets allow you to load more than a ton into the car (on a new car, however, 3 leaf springs), with a quiet ride it is quite economical - up to 7 liters of diesel fuel per hundred, at speeds over 130 km / h - up to 9 liters.

Among the shortcomings: in bad weather, side windows and rear-view mirrors are splashed.

Review of Volkswagen Amarok diesel 2.0 (180 hp) with automatic 2016

So, the updated Amarok. What changed? The new front end is a matter of taste, I personally like it more than the old one, with round foglights. It's a pity we didn't get xenon, although on order - please. With xenon Amarok looks generally great, and it shines much better. If you have a choice, I would recommend.

The new front panel is definitely a plus. Firstly, it is simply beautiful - the round elements were removed, the style was made stricter and “more purebred”. Secondly, she (thank God!) did not lose her enviable functionality.

Now for the cons. I can't stand innovation just for show. It's the same story with music. All added? Well, it means that something must be spoiled. They spoiled nothing at all - the music itself. As a result, you can listen to music even from a flash drive, even from an SD card, even from a disk; How did it happen?!

Next - piano lacquer on the panel. Honestly, I already want to find that wonderful person who opened a global plant for the production of this muck, and roll this “piano” somewhere for him ... What kind of mass insanity on this material did automakers happen? Well, obviously: cheaply shiny, dirty and scratched from any touch material.

By operation. After the break-in, the car went on an expedition "in a big circle": to Yakutia along the winter road through Ust-Kut and Taas-Yuryakh and back through Yakutsk and Skovorodino. And there, in Yakutia, it has already broken down. The microclimate control unit failed. In fact, the only truly new spare part in the entire car, which was introduced during restyling!

Volkswagen Amarok 2.0 TDI

Year of issue: 2011

Engine: 2.0 (163 HP) Checkpoint: M6

The car passed 544,000 km, changed the bearings on the wheels, the front end still has not changed. Oil does not eat, fuel 10 liters per 100 km, the engine worked without problems. It was my fault that the timing belt broke off, now I'm repairing it. The paint falls off in the third year, which I didn’t like, the seat was worn out, the armrest too. In general, happy with the car.

Volkswagen Amarok

Year of issue: 2010

Engine: 2.0 (163 HP) Checkpoint: M6

After four years of operation, the Amaroka is a disappointment. Pumping out money like it's not a Volkswagen. The brand remained from the brand. For 285,000 km of run I changed: Right suspension arm (backlash in the ball), both front wheel bearings, climate compressor, power steering pump, engine !!! (a crack in the cylinder), after replacing the engine after 1300 km, the vacuum pump jammed, and accordingly, the camshaft gear was cut off - replacing the cylinder head !!! This is what I remembered ... With my careful operation (oil change after 10-15 thousand, instead of 20,000 km).

In operation 11 months, mileage 21,000 km. Under warranty, they changed the rear shock absorbers and the strut, the rear suspension creaks, they will change the earring. The car is warm, webasto works. Inside is spacious compared to Pradik and Terrano. At the service they cannot decide how much oil to change, some say 5 thousand, others 10 thousand, according to the service book in general 20 thousand with a caveat, if the fuel has a high sulfur content, then after 10 thousand. Where to look for the truth?

Review about Volkswagen Amarok 2.0 left: Nikolai from the city of Khabarovsk

An economical car (in the summer outside the city, the average consumption is 7 liters, in winter up to -20 degrees - 8 liters, up to -40 degrees 11 liters per 100 km). For work and outdoor activities. I have been actively exploiting for 1.5 years, mileage 73 thousand km (Krasnodar Territory, Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug, often winter roads, mountains, sands, mud), mechanic's box. During this time, I changed about 10 dipped beam lamps, 70 thousand km drove oil from the crankshaft oil seal and oil filter stealing (the temperature was about -42 degrees), the service changed under warranty. At -40 it is cold to ride in the cabin (there are single rubber bands on the doors). In general, I am satisfied with the car, big inside, high-spirited, stable on the track, but afraid of the “washboard”, the rear axle begins to throw. ..full text of the Volkswagen Amarok review

Review about Volkswagen Amarok left: Sergey from the city of Surgut

At the beginning of its history, the Amarok was equipped exclusively with a mechanical six-speed gearbox. And only a few years later, a Volkswagen Amarok with an “automatic” appeared. By the way, the manufacturers claim that the development of an automatic box was carried out specifically for this car. As a result, a new Amarok appeared on the market with an “automatic” in as many as eight steps.

It should be noted that the development of this box began after the manufacturers noticed that the off-road pickup truck was to the taste not only of people who use it for its intended purpose, but also of those who simply like to drive such a large and aggressive car.

Unlike most automatic transmissions of other cars, Amarok with automatic transmission absolutely does not "stupid" when picking up speed, but confidently increases momentum and rushes forward. Eight gears allow the machine to select the gear that is best suited for each specific situation. This significantly increases fuel economy and improves driving performance.

Volkswagen Amarok with a gun can only be found in the four-door five-seater version of this model. This is understandable: the automatic is better suited just for non-commercial vehicles, and the five-seater Amarok was developed more as a family-entertainment version of a pickup truck. Firstly, the whole family can comfortably travel in it, and secondly, it is great for hunting or fishing trips with a large company.

Despite the fact that, like in any other commercial vehicle, the Volkswagen Amarok has technical characteristics and practicality in the first place, it will not be superfluous to mention the comfort level of the Volkswagen Amarok.

Landing in the cabin at the driver's seat is quite high, but you can adjust the front seats in a fairly wide range. Thus, you can either practically see the front overhangs of the hood, or sit at floor level. Here everyone can choose the option that he likes best. Adjusting the comfortable three-spoke steering wheel will also help you find a comfortable position: it has the ability to adjust both in reach and in height.

Landing in the driver's seat is designed to provide good visibility of the surrounding area. This is also facilitated by not very wide A-pillars, a large windshield and simply huge rear-view mirrors. They are electrically adjustable and heated, depending on the configuration.

Ergonomics inside this SUV pickup truck are on top. Amarok has a very typical interior, you don’t have to get used to anything here - everything is in its place. In the interior design, other models of the Volkswagen concern are viewed. Both the set of instruments and the style of the controls are all in the German spirit. The instruments behind the steering wheel are quite large, thanks to which their readings are perfectly read at any time of the day. Between them is an on-board computer display, which displays all the necessary information: hours, a digital indicator of the fuel level in the tank and fuel consumption.

By the way, the interior design of the pickup truck is quite modest. Here you will not find amazing and bold solutions. But it is precisely this simplicity that gives the Volkswagen Amarok the characteristics of a high-end car. The materials used in the design are not expensive, but their quality workmanship and fit are beyond praise. For example, the plastic on the panel and door trim is quite hard to the touch, but the design of these elements is very peculiar and geometrically correct. This solution allowed manufacturers, on the one hand, to save on finishing materials, and, on the other hand, to please consumers with the quality of design.

In the back row, according to the plan of the designers, three passengers should ride comfortably. Despite the fact that the Amarok body is perhaps the largest in its class, the developers failed to create a large and wide rear sofa. Therefore, there is enough space for three children, but for three adults it will obviously not be enough. Narrow rear doors also speak of such limited space - it will be problematic for a full person to climb through them into the cabin. The low level of comfort here is also affected by the fact that the backs of the rear seats are not adjustable - a minus of almost all pickups. But if it becomes necessary to carry luggage in this part of the car, then the seats can be folded or their pillows raised up - this way you get a fairly roomy “trunk”. This operation is carried out by two levers, which are located on top of the back of the sofa on opposite sides of the car - you just need to pull them up. But you can do it alone only from the salon: they are at a considerable distance from each other. Both the backrest and the cushion of the rear sofa have the possibility of transformation in a ratio of 1:2. Thus, if the cargo being transported is not very large, then one or two passengers can also be located in the back row.

For any configuration of the Amarok, the engine is a 2.0-liter turbodiesel. It develops 140 or 180 horsepower and can transmit torque either only to the rear axle, or to both at once. The engine is very traction, given that the technical characteristics of the Amarok allow it to carry more than a ton in its cargo hold. There are brackets for securely securing cargo and even a 12-volt outlet. An ATV or a Euro pallet can easily enter the body of the Amarok, and with the tailgate lowered, objects over two meters long can be transported here. When closed, the cargo compartment area is about 2.5 square meters.

At the Volkswagen Amarok, the technical specifications were developed taking into account the fact that this car will be used mainly off-road, or at least on dirt roads. Of course, manufacturers have not forgotten about those who simply prefer large cars, although they rarely drive off paved roads. Volkswagen Amarok with automatic transmission was created specifically for this category of owners.

Although in fairness it should be noted that thanks to its "stuffing" he feels great on the road. Various electronic systems of the car always help out the driver and help to lay a route where, it would seem, no car will pass, given that the dimensions of the Volkswagen Amarok clearly do not contribute to the passage of difficult sections of the road.

One of the most important such systems was the off-road system. It is activated by pressing a button near the gear lever. Moreover, for this there is no need to stop the car, and you can turn on this mode just on the go. The off-road system simultaneously controls the operation of the brake and gas pedals, gearbox and transmission in such a way as to safely and comfortably cover difficult sections of the route. When activated, the pickup truck is able to climb such ascents and descend from such steep slopes that it seems that only military equipment can do it. At the same time, his movement is very confident and calm. There is no frenzied roar of the engine and incomprehensible jerks. This is how a person overcomes obstacles, who knows in advance that the result will be successful.

In addition, the off-road features of the Volkswagen Amarok are affected by the presence of a clutch for connecting all-wheel drive in rear-wheel drive models, a high ground clearance of 249 mm, a number of electronically controlled reduction gears, and much more. A range of systems, such as hill start assist and hill descent assist, allow excellent off-road maneuvering even when the luggage compartment is fully loaded.

Thanks to the special body design of the Volkswagen Amarok, the characteristics make it possible to overcome fords up to 50 cm deep! And that's without a snorkel. It is this “all-terrain” nature of this off-road pickup truck that has become one of the main reasons for its great popularity among fans of off-road conquest.

But in order to really understand what this car is capable of, it is best to get behind the wheel, turn on the ignition and press the gas pedal. Interestingly, both on the track and off-road, the characteristics of the Amarok are revealed from completely different sides, but in any case they do not make the driver feel disadvantaged. Rather, on the contrary: on a good road, the pickup confidently keeps cruising speed, and the “automatic” gearbox perfectly monitors the timely engagement of the desired gear for optimal fuel consumption and reduced engine load. dreamed.

The company's management decided that the four-door five-seater Amarok would be produced exclusively in Germany, and not in Argentina, like its younger brother. This is primarily due to the car sales market. If the Americans initially purchased the Volkswagen Amarok to use it for its intended purpose, then sophisticated Europeans wanted a more convenient and comfortable modification.

On the crash tests of the world-famous agency EuroNcap, Amarok has so far won only four stars out of five possible. But the manufacturers promised not to stop there and will soon revise the security system in order to achieve maximum results. Although today the Volkswagen Amarok has driver and passenger airbags, curtain-type airbags, child seat mounts, etc.

German reliability, together with many years of experience in the automotive industry, made it possible to create a car that is not inferior to competitors in almost all respects.
