The Volvo concern presented its new development - the V90 Cross Country car. It will replace the XC70 model and complement the 90-Series station wagon line. The novelty has two competitors: the Audi A6 Allroad, offered in Russia for an amount of 3,795,000 rubles or more, and the Mercedes All-Terrain, whose deliveries are expected this spring. The cost of the latter starts from 3,990,000 rubles.

The best dynamics is shown by the version with a 320 hp petrol unit. With a maximum speed of 240 km / h to hundreds, it accelerates in 6.3 s. The most economical is the junior diesel unit. It consumes 5.1 and 5.2 liters of fuel with manual and automatic transmissions, respectively. Up to a hundred, this engine accelerates the car in 8.8 s.
90-Series station wagons have a single SPA chassis . It includes suspension struts and double wishbones at the front, and a multi-link design with a composite leaf spring at the rear. The novelty received an adapted version of this chassis. The Drive Mode system, in addition to the economical, comfortable and individual driving styles used for the standard version of the V90, provides an additional off-road mode. The car is equipped with all-wheel drive with a BorgWarner clutch. In the normal state, the thrust is fed to the front axle, but it can also be evenly distributed to both axles.

But just a few minutes ago, I considered myself a representative of the middle class, but as soon as I saw the price tag for this magnificence, my status dropped sharply to the level of the poverty line. In this regard, that surge of emotions that was a year ago when meeting with the then new XC90, of course, is no longer there. There is the same large virtual instrument panel, the instrument configuration on which can be personalized based on personal preferences and mood. In the same way, almost the entire center console is occupied by a huge Sensus multimedia display, on which, by the way, fingerprints are very clearly visible, especially from the back row and in sunny weather. And in the same way, Bowers & Wilkins sound system speakers can transport you to the Home of the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, filling the cabin with realistic sound.
In the cabin, the back row can be called spacious, the panoramic roof adds a special charm, which from the first row is not perceived as from the second. However, with all the convenience of landing, it is somewhat incomprehensible why in a car for that kind of money there is no way to adjust the tilt of the rear seat back. Nonsense, even a mechanical option is found on cars much cheaper, but here ... But you can drop the backrests to increase the volume of the trunk using electric drives, the activation buttons of which are located in the luggage compartment. The trunk itself was nothing of the sort. Spacious, tidy, but no more. I would like to see some systems that would allow it to be zoned, but, alas, there are none. But the fact that the trunk floor for the convenience of removing the spare wheel in the open position holds the gas lift, and not a banal ribbon with a hook, like in many cars, of course, it's nice.

On a test drive at the dealership, a model with a 190-horsepower direct-injection diesel engine was available. Not the most difficult option, but by the standards of a practical person - that's it. The fact is that the power of this engine, judging by the technical characteristics, is quite enough to provide the car with acceptable dynamics, but at the same time not go beyond reasonable fuel consumption. Diesel works surprisingly smoothly. So soft and lulling that, by and large, you don’t want to rock out on a car. And so the rhyme suggests itself: quietly rustling diesel, Volvo is driving slowly.
However, if you press the accelerator pedal and switch the engine and transmission systems control mode to Sport, then it is quite possible to put the speedometer needle on the coveted 100 km / h in 8.8 seconds. Which, to be honest, is hard to believe, because acceleration and high speed in the car are not felt at all: comfortable suspension, high-quality sound insulation and, as a result, complete serenity in the cabin even at the moment of acceleration. The Volvo V90 Cross Country may not be the benchmark for handling, but it doesn't need to be. The task of this car with the greatest possible comfort and safety is to take you from point "A" to point "B", even if along the way you will meet a primer or a slightly broken dirt road. Then it will be enough to use the Off Road mode, and the car itself will activate the hill descent assistance system, transfer most of the torque to the rear axle, increase the power steering, and the accelerator pedal will not be as sharp as in Sport or even Comfort mode. Well, security systems, of which there are a great many in the V90 Cross Country, both passive and active, will continue to protect you.
You will not find USB connectors in the trunk on every car. For what?
Already in the evening, when the test drive was completed, the keys were given away, and the technician, having taken the car, took it out of sight into the courtyard of the car dealership, for some reason I remembered the saying "Out of sight, out of mind."
