A few centuries ago, cunning British brought a special, elite breed of hounds used to hunt foxes, hares and other smart and fast animals. Distinctive features of Harrier (this name was given to the breed) was the ability to quickly overtake prey and maneuver sharply in a limited space. And a few centuries later, the cunning Japanese created a car that was called the Toyota Harrier and inherited from the "progenitor" a swift exterior, excellent dynamics, directional stability, excellent maneuverability and amazing comfort. And the commercially successful Mercedes ML in the North American market was the main “prey” for the novelty, which the eastern hunters intended to drive into the hole, launching the already well-known hound in its wake, but under the name Lexus RX300.

Starting point

The way of arrival in our region of Toyota Harrier is one - from Japan, and only in second-hand condition
Toyota Harrier The corporate "language" of the center console turned out to be such a good solution that it migrated to the next generation of the car without global changes.
The optitronic instrument panel has long been a hallmark of Lexus models and their domestic Japanese counterparts.

Despite the fact that Toyota Harrier appeared in Japan itself at the end of 1997, and overseas sales of the Lexus RX300 began only a few months later, already in 1998, the car's orientation to the American market is obvious. This is probably why the European premiere of this all-terrain vehicle took place only in 2000, and again under the “luxury” Lexus brand - just in the eyes of car owners of the Old World, such cars do not seem prestigious and thoroughbred. In 2003, the RX underwent radical changes - it became 165 mm longer and 25 mm wider than the previous one, which no longer speaks of a deep restyling, but of the release of a full-fledged new generation. The 3.3-liter 3MZ-FE (Lexus RX330) appeared in the range of engines, and since 2004 - a hybrid power plant based on the three-liter 1MZ-FE (Lexus RX400h). In the domestic market of Japan, Toyota Harrier also has a 2AZ-FSE engine with a direct fuel injection system ( Note by Toyota-Club. There is no such modification, Harrier is still equipped with a 2AZ-FE engine with normal injection). The car began to be equipped with a five-speed "automatic" with the possibility of manual gear selection, and an air suspension with a TEMS stiffness and clearance adjustment system appeared as an option. As for the Toyota Harrier, both pneumatic elements and an “advanced” automatic transmission are found here in the first generation.

The Toyota Harrier has only one way of arrival in our region - from Japan, and only in a second-hand condition. And therefore, finding a car in all possible versions, with any power filling is not a difficult task. Engine - from the "budget" 2.2-liter 5S-FE (on versions since 2000 - 2.4-liter 2AZ-FE) to the "top" 1MZ-FE with a working volume of three liters. For all versions, the drive is available both only on the front axle, and permanent full drive with a symmetrical differential, partially blocked by a viscous coupling. The gearbox is only an "automatic", often with a "manual" mode. Leather in the upholstery is extremely rare, remaining single manifestations of the "upper" version of the Toyota Harrier 3.0 Four. But the first generation Lexus RX300, which appeared on our roads much earlier than its right-hand drive counterpart, was at first present in the Euroversions that were supplied to us through official channels. Now, with the final departure of the car to the secondary category, it is increasingly possible to find cars with overseas pedigree on the market. It is not difficult to recognize them - turn signals built into the front bumper (for the "Europeans" they are integrated into the wings) and red, not transparent stoplight caps. The light beam of the headlights is set "American-style", which does not meet our standards. The engine is three-liter, the drive is full, although according to some reports, “budget” mono-drive versions with 2.2-liter engines were also supplied to the American market. When buying an “American”, you should be extremely careful - local car owners treat cars no better than us (first they buy an expensive car, and then they start saving on its maintenance), so it’s not uncommon for an engine coked to death with cheap, not changed for years, mineral oil, and “hungry” from the complete lack of care for the AKP. Express diagnostics of the power unit costs 400-500 rubles, a complete picture of the condition of the engine will cost already 1800. In many cases, tenacious Japanese units can be reanimated (just don't try to use potent chemistry!), But there are also clinical cases. Maintenance of the fuel system (cleaning the injectors and intake tract) will cost more than 2,000 rubles - quite a bit, given the cost of each injector at $ 200. The Lexus RX300 of the “European breed” has only a three-liter engine, four-wheel drive and stiffer suspension settings, however, due to its high cost (only four years from the start of sales, plus high intra-European prices for second-hand), they are practically not found on our market. But right-hand drive RX300 periodically arrive, both made for the “left-hand” countries and for the domestic Japanese market (a kind of trial balloon before the full withdrawal of the Lexus brand to its historical homeland). But regardless of origin, all Lexus RX300s, even in the “poorest” R1 configuration, are equipped to the highest standard. Suffice it to say that the "upper" version of the R6 was able to add to the base level only an electric sunroof, a touch-screen display, a Mark Levinson music set (in some cases Nakamichi) and a wooden steering wheel trim. Upholstery - only leather.

Ferret and Mirror

Structurally, the RX300 and Harrier are identical - a five-door carrier body on powerful spars, front and rear fully independent suspension with McPherson struts and anti-roll bars. The difference is in the details: the overseas Lexus are more imposing, but have shock absorbers with massive rods, the “Europeans” are set up for active driving with a “sharp” steering wheel and minimal buildup, and the Toyota Harrier combines distinct and predictable steering with a fairly soft suspension. Many suspension components (like the three-liter V6) are borrowed from the left-hand drive Toyota Camry, so the car's behavior on the road is akin to a passenger car. The absence of downshifts and wheel locks is another argument in favor of the fact that the car is designed to move on hard surfaces. And even the presence on some modifications of a self-locking rear differential and the VSC dynamic stabilization system, which imitates wheel locks, is aimed at confidently keeping the trajectory, but not at all for extreme off-road attacks. Alas, often the owners of such cars confuse them with real "rogues" like the Land Cruiser, which significantly reduces the life of the suspension and transmission. And the gearbox of this car is already a weak point. An insufficiently strong planetary assembly hardly “digests” even the moment of a 2.2-liter engine, and even at low starts on a three-ruble note or long-term slippage on impassable roads and ice, there is very little left for the box to live. Outwardly, the "fatigue" of the automatic transmission is expressed in jerks when shifting gears, especially noticeable when moving the selector from "D" to "R" and vice versa. Contributory factors that help to send the box to the landfill include its untimely maintenance, the use of inappropriate ATF (for example, regular Dexron instead of T4), and even "shoes" of a dimension that differs from the manufacturer's recommended. In general, the “automatic” is a little thoughtful, but with an adequate attitude towards itself, it can serve faithfully no less than the engine, providing the car, albeit not sporty, but quite decent dynamics.

The bodies of both cars have a pronounced taboo on any manifestations of corrosion - rust does not belong here. Characteristic red spots can only indicate an experienced accident and poor-quality body repairs. Although rust is not the worst consequence of an accident. The geometry of the body, which is not fully straightened, leads to the fact that a car with a high center of gravity noticeably loses its handling and stability on the road, vibration appears on the steering wheel and body. Re-alignment of the geometry will cost more than one thousand dollars.

Instead of a heart...

The weakest in the range of engines is the 2.2-liter inline four 5S-FE with a capacity of 140 hp. With. was installed on frankly “budget” (in relation to the level of the car itself, of course) versions and is capable of providing only dignified, but not fast (especially with all-wheel drive) movement in space. A certain amount of vivacity in the life of the motor can only be brought by its combination with the automatic transmission that has a “manual” mode, which appeared on the Toyota Harrier already in 1998. There were no congenital diseases behind this engine, apart from the knocking characteristic of the entire “S” series, which occurs due to the formation of hard deposits in the ledge between the head and the cylinder block.

In 2000, the 5S-FE was replaced by a more “advanced” and modern four-cylinder 2AZ-FE with a working volume of 2.4 liters and a power of 160 hp, equipped with an improved VVT-i variable valve timing system. The engine has a timing chain drive and vibration-reducing (even though the motor itself is on hydro bearings!) Balance shafts located near the crankshaft - that is, not where they are easiest to put, but where they are most needed. In addition, the crankshaft itself is offset relative to the axis of the cylinders, which allows you to "stretch" the passage of the TDC piston in time and improve power performance. The disadvantages of this engine (often found with an aluminum cylinder block) include the lack of repair dimensions and increased demands on oil viscosity. Viscosity is indicated on the dipstick or oil filler cap and leaves no room for experimentation, otherwise you can say goodbye to the declared motor resource of 400-450 thousand km. But despite the apparent ingenuity of the design, the insides of the 2AZ-FE are extremely simple and understandable, and the repair of this engine is not difficult. Although not cheap - work on the simplest "chemical" restoration of the mobility of piston rings (without even looking inside the motor) will cost almost 800 rubles.

At the top of the first generation RX300/Harrier engine lineup is the 1MZ-FE 3.0-litre V6 with 201-223 hp. (depending on measurement standard). This motor with two camshafts in each head and four valves per cylinder has established itself as a reliable and inexpensive power unit to maintain (provided that it was not “killed” during the American operation on the Lexus RX300). But if the Yankees “spoiled” the engine with cheap oil, the rear crankshaft oil seal is inevitable. The oil seal itself is a cheap part, but replacing it requires removing the subframe, removing the automatic transmission and hanging the engine. For Toyota Harrier, such a problem is irrelevant, and the most time-consuming operation here is the regular (every 10-20 thousand km) replacement of spark plugs. Candles with platinum or iridium electrodes (from 500 rubles / piece) do not last longer on our gasoline. Valve clearances are adjusted using washers, but intervention here may be required only after 200,000 km. Replacing the timing belt (together with rollers and oil seals) will cost 2000 rubles without the cost of spare parts (1200 for the Gates belt and 2000 for the original plus 250 rubles / oil seal). Other than any significant investment in the engine, with the exception of regular oil and filter changes, is not required. But you will have to tinker with replacing the fuel filter - it is installed in the tank along with the fuel pump and, according to the rules, should change after the pump has been removed from the tank for a long time. In practice, such a procedure is often performed “by touch”, without removing the pump, but at the same time, the o-ring almost always jumps off. The result is a pressure drop in the fuel line and a lack of thrust from the motor.

Winner's trophy

The popularity of these cars (in our case, it is more appropriate to talk about the Toyota Harrier) is quite understandable. And the point here is not even mythical prestige like "This is also a Lexus, only right-handed." Rather, preference is given to a successful combination of elementary practicality with first-class comfort. In addition, the very idea of a "SUV" in relation to our conditions is very attractive. Firstly, this is a car for every day, not afraid of broken and snowy roads. Secondly, in terms of its driving characteristics, such a car is practically not inferior to a passenger car. Thirdly, the useful volume of the cabin and trunk (for whom this is relevant) is comparable to a minivan. Fourthly, with all the "off-road" appearance, such a car in operation turns out to be much cheaper than a full-fledged jeep. And fifthly, it is really prestigious, especially since the price of the "used" RX300/Harrier is not the most affordable. For example, a 1998 Toyota Harrier with all-wheel drive and a 2.2-liter engine is valued at $18,000, but a similar two-wheel drive car is offered at $900 more. Harrier of the same 1998, but with a 3-liter V6, 4WD and automatic transmission with manual mode costs $21,500. There is no unity in pricing for cars produced in 2000: Toyota Harrier with leather interior, three-liter 1MZ-FE and all-wheel drive is estimated at $25,550, while an identical car “without leather” is put up for sale for $26,300. However, Lexus still holds the championship - for the "American" RX300 of 1999 with a two-year local run, a three-liter V6 and all-wheel drive, they ask for as much as $28,500.

Information about the potential novelty was published by the Rosstandart website: its electronic library lists OTTS for the Toyota C-HR crossover, valid from December 31, 2016 to December 30, 2019.

With some stylistic similarity with the Toyota model, it is noticeably larger (wheelbase - 2640 mm, length - 4360 mm) and belongs to the size class C.

The C-HR is one of the first vehicles created within the framework of the new global architecture (Toyota New Global Architecture), which extends the modular design principle not only to bodies and chassis, but also to power units. The base engine for the Russian version of the crossover is a 1.2-liter gasoline downsized "turbo-four", producing a maximum of 116 hp. power and 185 Nm of torque, the latter being available in a wide range from 1500 to 4000 rpm. The alternative 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine with 148 hp. peak thrust is slightly higher at 189 Nm, and it is only available in a narrow range from 3800 to 3900 rpm. But the aspirated can be fed with 92nd gasoline.

Versions with a turbo engine are exclusively front-wheel drive, but there is a choice for gearboxes: 6-speed manual or CVT. Equipped with a 2.0-liter aspirated crossover can only be with all-wheel drive and a CVT.

The list of basic equipment includes an air conditioner and an ERA-GLONASS rescue module.

Unfortunately, there is no clarity regarding the start of sales: the Toyota press office told us that the decision on the supply of C-HR to our country has not yet been made, but we dare to assume that since the car was certified, and in addition with Europe with an atmospheric gasoline engine, the stylish crossover will still appear in Russian showrooms.

In favor of a positive decision regarding the supply of C-HR, the imminent one also indirectly speaks, and this is a much more niche model. It is clear that without localization, the C-HR can cost at the level of RAV4 and even more, but it will certainly find its buyer, because if the image of an ideal car for housewives has been fixed behind the “rafik”, then young and independent people who are looking for stylish, outstanding urban crossover - are there many of these today in our market in the non-premium segment?

  • In mid-January, Toyota resumed taking orders for a mid-size crossover in Russia.
  • Read about other potential new products on the Russian market this year in ours.

With the new Toyota C-HR 2017 model, the price of which will be significantly lower than that of the popular RAV4 crossover, the Japanese company is invading the most massive segment. Now Hyundai Creta and Renault Captur reign supreme there. Of course, the status of the oldest Japanese company will imply a somewhat higher cost of the initial version. Nevertheless, in this matter, the configuration and prices of the Toyota C-HR 2017 (photo) will not differ much from the generally accepted trends in this segment. The same can be said about the technical characteristics. The production of a crossover in a new body is organized at a plant in Turkey, the start of sales is scheduled for the end of the year. In addition to Europe, deliveries to their countries have already been announced: Ukraine, Armenia and Azerbaijan. About when the start of sales of Toyota C-HP will take place in Russia will be announced in the near future.

The initial equipment implies the presence in the technical characteristics of the Toyota CXR of a 1.2-liter turbo engine with a capacity of 116 forces, used on Auris hatchbacks. For a surcharge to the price, all-wheel drive with a multi-plate clutch from RAV4 and a variator are available. The basic package of CHR will include: air conditioning, a proprietary audio system with MP3, steering column and driver's seat height adjustment, power windows front and rear, heated front seats and power mirrors, fog lights and aluminum wheel rims. Passive and active safety is provided by: a stabilization system with off-road mode, 6 airbags, a tire pressure sensor and a hill start assistant. For an additional price, Toyota CH-R 2017 will offer: adaptive cruise control, a proprietary navigation system, parking sensors, a rear-view camera, a heated steering wheel and a metallic color.

New body

The novelty is built on the modular TNGA platform, which the Prius already uses. However, the completely new body of the Toyota CHP 2017 (photo) avoids any associations with the unhurried and hybrid Prius. In the form of a crossover with a length of 4360 mm, maximum dynamism is intended for people leading an active lifestyle, which, however, will not prevent the C-HR from being economical. Good handling will be ensured by the rear multi-link suspension, which even in the basic configurations comes with front-wheel drive. A clear proof of the potential of the Toyota CNR with a new body is the fact that the prestigious Lexus UX was built on its basis, where very high demands are placed on comfort and handling.

The kinship with Lexus can be traced in the quality of finishing materials, which is not surprising, because the model was developed for the picky tastes of European buyers. From the Prius, the crossover in the new body got a good amount of space in the rear seats, which will undoubtedly add a few points to the price of the Toyota C-HR 2017 in the eyes of people who value practicality. The trunk volume, equal to 370 liters, is not amazing, but, thanks to the correct geometric shape, it is quite convenient to use. Additionally, it should also be noted the Safety Sense security complex, which monitors road signs and markings, can automatically brake and warn of possible collisions. In the cabin, in addition to a large touch screen, a classic-design electronic clock and a contrasting trim-edging, visually dividing the interior into upper and lower parts, are remembered.

Specifications*

The modular platform from the Prius predetermined the presence in the range of a hybrid version with two electric motors, a 1.8-liter gasoline engine with a total power of 122 hp. and front wheel drive. Unsurprisingly, the technical specifications of the 2017 Toyota C-HR Hybrid are almost identical to those of the Prius with 3 liters of average fuel consumption per 100 km, 10.6 seconds of acceleration to a hundred and 180 km / h of top speed. Thanks to the lower curb weight, the base modification of the Toyota CAH Air with front-wheel drive and a 6-speed manual transmission, equipped with a 116-horsepower 1.2-liter turbo engine, is a little more dynamic. Acceleration to 100 km / h is reduced to 10.5 seconds, and the average fuel consumption of 5.7 liters per 100 km, although it gets higher, still remains one of the lowest in the class.

It is noteworthy that the price of Toyota CHP 2017 with all-wheel drive and a 1.2-liter engine includes a variator by default. The speed qualities of such versions will not change much, and fuel consumption will remain at the same level. The increased mass is compensated by the variator, thanks to a wider range of gear ratios. The same all-wheel drive transmission is also installed on the flagship versions with a 2-liter gasoline engine from the RAV4 model. In the technical characteristics of the top version of the Toyota CHP, there are 9.9 seconds of acceleration to hundreds and 6.9 liters of average fuel consumption per 100 km. Currently, the issue of the appearance under the hood of a crossover with a new body of turbo-diesel engines with a volume of 1.6-2.0 liters is being considered.

Start of sales in Russia

Even before the organization of a localized assembly, the start of sales in Russia of Toyota SNR 2017 may take place as early as next year. As practice shows, buyers are ready to pay extra for a quality product of a famous brand, even in a relatively affordable class of cars. At the initial stage, Turkish-assembled crossovers intended for sale in Europe can be supplied. Nevertheless, for a successful start of Toyota C-HR sales at attractive prices, a Russian assembly is required, and there are all the necessary prerequisites for this. More recently, the plant in St. Petersburg began production of the RAV4 model, and the new CHP crossover, due to its more affordable price, promises to be even more popular. We should not forget that the St. Petersburg enterprise with a design capacity of 300,000 vehicles a year is currently loaded by a maximum of a third.

To hit or not to hit? They decided to beat - and spent a lot of money, passing the Toyota C-HR crossover through the thorns of Russian certification, including a crash test confirming the viability of the elements of the ERA-GLONASS system. That is, Toyota approached the introduction of new items to our market with all the thoroughness, but ... “We do not plan to sell the C-HR in Russia. More precisely, we do not plan yet.” While the palette of cars presented on our market has shrunk by almost a hundred models, and not least because of the expensive certification (and, in addition to testing in Russia, it is also necessary to arrange the installation of the system on the assembly line!), Toyota C-HR receives a certificate, but stays at home, that is, in the Turkish city of Sakarya. This alone is enough to recognize the C-HR as a unique car!

Anyone else remember the very first, three-door RAV4? Scary to say, 1994! Do you remember that before the market premiere, still under the guise of a concept car, this playful puppy bore the nickname Fun Cruiser? I remember: dark-red Rafik spent six years in our family, until he was exchanged for a new, already five-door Rafik of the second generation. But, when the next, already “third” RAV4 came out, the wife, having mobilized all the delicacy, said insinuatingly: “You won’t change my car for this, right? I'm tired of Toyota, please ... "I won't, I'm tired myself. And don't poke my nose at the numbers that, they say, by 2007, when the third generation RAV4 reached its peak, sales of Rafiks around the world tripled! I didn't say that Toyota buyers can be wrong by the millions. And it was the third generation model - as practical and reliable as it is sexless and dull - that put a bold cross on what was once called the Fun Cruiser. Not even a three-door version remained.

Against the backdrop of typical Toyota mouse salons, this interior is an attraction of unheard-of generosity! The front panel is a layered cake of materials in as many as four different colors and textures, and the top plate even leaves the impression of leather. The upholstery of the doors, although tough, looks like matting. The blue contour pad (the fate of some versions, and not only hybrid ones) is “slightly rubbery”, without backlighting - and, oddly enough, it does not irritate and is appropriately supported by the color scheme for highlighting coasters, pictograms and other symbols

So, Toyota C-HR is the Fun Cruiser II, an attempt to return a smile to the faces of drivers. In vain that on the way from exhibition concept cars to the Turkish conveyor, the three-door was reborn into a five-door.

Trunk? Already fun, and if a JBL subwoofer is built into one of the side niches, then 350 liters will barely be typed. Back seats? You'd probably be better off in Solaris, plus you'll get a wider side view, not to mention rear view. Clearance? Lada Vesta will climb deeper ...

The trunk with a volume of 377 liters is scanty for a C-class crossover, and if a subwoofer is installed in the right side niche (by the way, the JBL system sings very dynamically), even less. This is where you remember that the letter C in the abbreviation C-HR is interpreted not as a Crossover, but as a Coupe: Coupe High-Rider, something like “high rider”, or you can also “high-flying rider”

But if you asked about ground clearance in the hope that it is small and therefore the center of gravity is closer to the ground, then follow me to Denmark, to the dank shore of the North Sea! Every autumn, the world's largest comparison test is held here: about thirty models nominated for the Car of the Year title, and almost three times as many cars themselves.

I made a list ahead of time of new products that you should ride at all costs, and Toyota C-HR was by no means the first line in it. But in the end, the colleagues with whom I had to go to the airport to fly home pulled me out from behind the wheel of the C-HR by force. And to this day - a joyful aftertaste.

“Last year, the concept car seemed to have a panoramic roof. However, I did not see this on serial machines.

- For me, the priority is handling, and for good handling it is important that the center of gravity is as low as possible. I didn't want a sunroof.

Hiroyuki Koba, presented to journalists as the "father" of the model, is afraid, as is usual with the Japanese, to utter at least one extra word. And the touching story about how he approached the creation of this “car for Europeans”, Koba-san read from sin away from a piece of paper.

I, he says, specially traveled on European roads and observed the manners of Europeans. Where we, the Japanese, slow down, or even stop altogether, the Europeans sometimes add gas. For example, before roundabouts or sharp turns. And Koba-san also noticed that the Europeans correctly choose the trajectory of movement ...

The compact crossover Toyota C-HR 2017-2018 has passed the Russian certification, which gives the right to start selling the model in the Russian Federation. True, while the Japanese are in no hurry to bring the SUV to the Russian market, referring to the difficult economic situation. Nevertheless, the green light from Rosstandart is a good reason to take a closer look at the new Toyota product, since now all the technical characteristics of the car are known with reference to Russia.

First, let's dive a little into the history of the emergence of a new Japanese model. The harbinger of the production car was the three-door futuristic C-HR concept shown at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. A year later, in Frankfurt, a five-door version of the "C-H-era" was presented, obviously closer to the assembly line. Both pre-production versions of the crossover were distinguished by extremely bold and emotional design, unusual for Toyota cars. One could only guess how much the final version of the SUV will resemble its conceptual "brothers". All questions were answered by the Geneva forum in 2016, where the full-fledged debut of the novelty took place, as it turned out, not much departed in terms of design from the source code.

Platform and body dimensions

The new Toyota C-HR 2017-2018 is built on the same platform with. The GA-C "trolley", which is a derivative of the TNGA architecture, was just the right fit for the compact C-class SUV. The overall dimensions of the crossover are as follows: length - 4360 mm, width - 1795 mm, height - 1565 mm. The wheelbase was 2640 mm, the front and rear wheel tracks were 1550 and 1570 mm, respectively. Ground clearance C-HR by the standards of the segment is very modest - 160 mm. A fair share of hatchbacks and sedans have much more solid ground clearance. However, the model is certified as a five-door hatchback, probably, so it will be perceived by many motorists.

Judging by the size of the body, the Toyota C-HR will be a step below. The C-H-era was recorded in the main competitors, although it is noticeably inferior in size (Nissan is 225 mm shorter and 30 mm narrower). Apparently, the similar body format of the models, as well as the eccentric appearance inherent in both cars, played a role here.

Dynamic coupe styling

By launching their project under the name C-HR, the Japanese sought to draw attention to it, first of all, to the youth audience. With this calculation, the configuration was formed, and the design of the SUV was drawn. The final product, it must be admitted, at least did not disappoint. The crossover looks fresh and stylish thanks to the graceful roof dome, powerful wheel arches, interesting sidewalls with incoming stamping waves, original rear doors with compact windows and hidden door handles, elegant stern with spectacular boomerang lights.

Photo Toyota C-HR 2017-2018 model year

Dynamism to the appearance of the car is added by a fin located on the top of the “shark”, a large spoiler on top of the fifth door, frying the sports feed. Despite the fact that the developer sought to give the Toyota CHR a classic shape, the profile of the novelty turned out to be as close as possible to the coupe-like one, and, probably, this only benefited.

New body design

With all the novelty of the appearance of the crossover, he still retained a certain resemblance to other representatives of the Toyota line. So, in the design of the front of the C-HR, you can find a lot in common with the "senior" RAV 4. Family ties can be traced in the design of the head optics and radiator grille, as well as the overall architecture of the front bumper.

Modern interior

The interior of the new Toyota C-HP meets with an unusual four-level configuration of the front panel, with each level having its own color and finishing material. If the upper part is upholstered in something like leather, then below is a thin contour section painted in a certain color, and even lower is an overlay covered with a brilliant “piano” lacquer. The center console turned towards the driver is topped with a large 8-inch screen of the multimedia system, under which there are air vents and a convenient climate control unit. There are no other buttons and switches on the console, so it looks very simple and concise.

Interior with custom front panel

The front seats of the SUV, in addition to being equipped with tenacious side support rollers, offer several combinations of finishes using materials of various shades and textures. Designers have tried to choose the best color combinations for all elements of the interior, so that the interior decoration creates the most pleasant and integral impression.

seat upholstery

The set of equipment prepared for the new Toyota C-HR includes dual-zone climate control, a heated steering wheel, heated seats, a high-quality JBL audio system with a 576-watt amplifier and 9 speakers, and ambient lighting. As standard, the car is equipped with 17-inch wheels with 215/60 R17 tires, 18-inch wheels with 225/50 R18 tires are available in top versions.

Responsibility for the safety of passengers with the driver will be shared by the Toyota Safety Sense system, which includes adaptive cruise control, collision warning with pedestrian recognition (Pre-Collision system), lane keeping control (Lane Departure Alert), automatic headlight switching (Automatic High Beam), Road Sign Assist, Blind Spot Monitor, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Simple Intelligent Parking Assist.

Luggage compartment Toyota C-HR

The cargo compartment of the new Toyota model is far from the most capacious in the segment. With a five-seater layout, up to 370 liters of luggage will fit in the trunk. Again, installing the JBL system subwoofer alone hides about 20 liters, reducing the volume to an even more modest 350 liters.

Specifications Toyota C-HR 2017-2018

In Russia, the new Japanese crossover was certified with two power units - a 1.2-liter 8NR-FTS turbo engine (115 hp, 185 Nm) and a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated 3ZR-FAE (148 hp, 189 Nm). The initial “turbo four” is complemented by a 6-speed manual or Multidrive S CVT. The 2.0-liter engine can rely solely on the CVT. Four-wheel drive relies only on modifications with a continuously variable transmission.

In the European market, you can buy Toyota CHR with a 122 hp hybrid power plant. This version is equipped with a CVT variator and is available only in front-wheel drive. The average fuel consumption of the Toyota C-HR Hybrid is 3.8 liters per 100 km.

The suspension of the car is completely independent: in front - a traditional MacPherson strut with anti-roll bars, in the back - a wishbone design with the same obligatory stabilizers. The brake mechanisms of all four wheels are disc, the gear-rack type steering mechanism is equipped with an electric booster.

Options and prices in Russia

So far, the decision to start sales of Toyota C-HR in Russia has not been made, for which there are objective reasons. Certain obstacles are created by the lack of localization of production (the model is assembled in only one place - at a factory in the Turkish city of Sakarya). So, if the SUV gets to us, then the price can be very biting. It is not excluded that the basic C-HR will be asked for more than the initial RAF-4, currently valued at 1,493,000 rubles.
