Unlike anything else, the appearance of this “baby” and excellent dynamic performance make Renault Twizy very nimble and noticeable to everyone, even in the narrowest places. The only pity is that this super-compact car will not come to Russia. It is successfully sold in Europe, but only in the southern regions and resort countries. In Moscow, it would be useful to many.

First impression

Renault Twizy is one of the first mass-produced electric cars from a well-known French manufacturer. A car with an unusual and rather bizarre, atypical for many, appearance immediately catches your eye. Doors lift up instead of opening as usual.

The body is very compact - the length is only 234 centimeters, and this baby is 124 centimeters wide. Everyone who saw this mini-car for the first time was sure that the French made it for one passenger. But it's not. A distance of 124 centimeters should be enough for two people.

To drive this car, you must have an open category "B" in the driver's license. But in the series there is a younger brother of an electric car with less power, which does not require a license to drive.

What is surprising is the wheels. With a body of this size, they look simply huge, although their diameter is only 15 inches. Of the features, mirrors can be distinguished. They are equipped with heating. However, with regard to adjustments, here the French decided to save money. All settings are fully mechanical. Even more - to adjust the mirror, the engineers did not provide any handles. It is necessary to press with your fingers in the direction in which you want to turn the mirror. But this is Renault, they could do something more interesting and rich. The poverty of the cabin is somewhat reminiscent of the Ukrainian ZAZ Tavria - it is almost the same there, but more spacious, motorists note. The interior is painted blue. By this, the French automaker emphasizes that the car is as environmentally friendly as possible.

Among the features is a digital panel. But you can not look for a radio tape recorder in the car - it is not there. The French believe that a European motorist should not listen to music. So safer.

Governing bodies

Under the feet are two pedals. It's gas and brake. There is also a parking brake handle. It must be pulled towards you. The driver's seat is surprisingly hard and ... rubber, or something. It is very difficult to sit on it for a long time. But this is a city car, the manufacturers will say, - the car is not designed for long trips. And this is a fact. As for the back row, the rear passenger will have to be much worse than the driver.

The passenger gets into a plastic box. To comfortably sit in this compact car from the rear, you need to spread your legs so that they can hug the driver's seat. And behind - only plastic and nothing else. The only soft thing is the seat. Landing is somewhat reminiscent of a motorcycle. Just don't put your feet down. In front of him, the rear passenger will see the headrest of the front seat and nothing more.

The engineers who worked on the creation of a mini-electric car seriously declare that there are only 600 parts in the car design that can wear out or somehow rub against each other. This is about the same as in the cylinder head of any gasoline car. Frequent trips to maintenance, which car owners love so much, Renault Twizy is not needed. The machine does not require serious maintenance at all.

This electric car was born in the minds of the developers with one single purpose - just to drive. At the same time, an electric car drives at quite practical speeds - not like in Moscow. The average speed in the center of Moscow is no more than 20 km/h. Faster only on a bicycle, but a little more comfortable on the Tweezy. The most serious motor from the Urban 80 series produces only 57 Nm of torque. But they are available right from scratch. Therefore, with a weight of 300 kg, together with the driver and passenger, as well as the battery, the little car is able to accelerate quite briskly. About the same as trolleybuses.

In Europe, automakers are not forcibly selling electric vehicles. They are well aware that there are not yet all the necessary infrastructure for these machines. But personal electric vehicles are still for sale.

In Germany, 2,708 people have already bought a Renault Twizy. The cost of ownership in terms of rubles is from 440 thousand rubles (although this is the price for an uncleared car). In Europe, an electric car is offered at a price of seven thousand euros, which is very cheap compared to the same "Smart" from a well-known German company. The advantages of the French city car are many, even if we discard excessive asceticism and lack of comfort. It is environmentally friendly, simple, runs on cheap fuel. Reliability is also quite high. The width of the body is only 1.19 m. It can be driven everywhere. And this pleases the owners of Renault Twizy. Reviews about the mini-car are only positive, although in Russia they did not understand the car.

Passport mileage on a single charge is up to 170 km, although they showed that in reality in urban conditions it turns out 80-120 km. The long wheelbase Maxi version can take on board 595 kg and costs from 2 million 359 thousand. And there is also a passenger modification with a long base, a glazed body and a five-seat interior at a price of 2 million 419 thousand rubles.

Ordinary gasoline Kangoos are no longer sold in Russia, but, say, similar Peugeot Partner “heels” will cost almost half the price! There is no need to worry about how to open the doors, since there are simply no glasses, and the doors themselves do not lock (and why?). An alternative to air conditioning has been found. What can I say if the doors themselves are an option. In the basic configuration, the car goes without them.

Separately, it is worth noting the suspension and seat settings - driver and passenger.The suspension is set up well, you can't fault it. The car is stable at maximumvehicle speed at 80 km/h.

But this stability is achieved at the expense of convenience. You will feel every crack on the pavement. This is facilitated by plastic seats with polyurethane pads. You can drive in them for a maximum of 30 minutes without pain. Pay attention to how the passenger seat is made. Think there's not enough legroom in a sports coupe? No matter how! Against this monster, the coupe is a limousine. As planned by the designers, the rear passenger should wrap their legs around the driver.

There is a suspicion that an adult man simply will not get in there, and a woman in a skirt will not even try. What's left? Small child? Have pity.The pedal assembly deserves special praise. Peculiarity of this car is that it has no amplifiers, moreover, even a cable brake. And this means that you need to push hard, and the Twizy will slow down weakly.

The trunk, as the plant claims, is 200 liters. A lot, but where does such a volume come from? Hard to tell. Only one thing is clear. If you put your things in the back seat, then when braking, they will be under your feet. But here Tweezy's brake comes to the rescue. It is unlikely that you will be able to brake sharply.

Exterior

If there's anything even more controversial about this car than the interior, it's certainly the exterior. For most people, this design causes an undisguised grin, someone sneaks into laughter. Someone considers him a freak. There are those units to whom the appearance may seem cute and pretty. But one thing is for sure - it is very unusual and controversial.

External difference between optionsurban Renault Twizy in Urban configuration, Kargu and Trend did not notice any difference. Unless the trend has a larger list of available options and options wheels. There is no difference in the body.

Specifications

In life, no one has yet managed to cross the 170-kilometer barrier, since ideal conditions exist only in the calculations of engineers. Nevertheless, in September 2016, a modernized and improved car was shown as part of the Paris auto show. The main subject of improvements was a battery with a capacity of 40, and according to some reports, 42 kW / h. This battery can provide a range in real conditions of at least 300 km, and according to the utopian NEDC cycle, even 400 km.

This, of course, is not all the changes that the electric car has received. Renault added two new body colors to the range, bright red and intense gray, the machine received as an option new wheels with a two-tone design with a diameter of 16 inches. Also, for a surcharge, you can order not only snow-white, but also pale blue interior. There is also a new edition1 package, which features a more expensive interior, full leather trim and a premium audio system from Bose. On the technical side, the car has also become better - it received not only a new battery from LG, but also an improved electric motor. It has become lighter and more productive. The operating modes of the air conditioner have become even more economical, and in the recovery modes, the battery has become even more actively recharged.

And in general, more than a dozen improvements were sent to save electricity, even the LED head optics received new LED elements that consume less electricity. The battery is still not for sale, but is leased by the company, but if you really want to save money, then you can take not a new 40-kilowatt battery, but an old one, at 22 kW / h. The new electric car has been on sale since October 1 in Europe and it costs 2.5 thousand euros more. Zoe was conceived not as a futuristic concept or an expensive toy (like the same Tweezy), but as a full-fledged ground vehicle adapted to the real life of the average European. In 2008, the project was called X10, but it was not destined to become a pioneer. The first was the controversial but more popular Nissan Leaf. Only Nissan does not shine with design, and Renault Zoe is truly beautiful. More precisely, it is more in line with the public's ideas about an electric car. The car was drawn by the author of the Megan RS project and the Master van, Jean Semeriva, and the final touches to the appearance of the electric car were personally made by the chief designer of Renault Laurens van den Acker. The designers managed to distance the Renault Zoe from the Clio as much as possible, and in many respects they achieved this thanks to the introduction of “eco-philosophy”, a slightly cinematic idea of ​​​​what an electric car should be like inside and out. Although the front panel matrices, in principle, do not differ from the same Clio, there will be many details in the cabin that will remind you of it.

Oddly enough, Renault Zoe and Leaf have much less in common than you might think. Their layout is indeed very similar, but in an electric car with a huge battery it would be difficult to build the architecture of components and assemblies in a different way. It's good, it's bad, but Nissan is more productive than Zoya. The Renault battery consists of a dozen modules, each of which contains 16 cells, and Nissan had a larger battery before the update, and after the update about a year ago it began to show 30 kW / h. Nissan's synchronous electric motor has a return of 110 horses, while Renault has only 88 horsepower. Otherwise, it is easy to guess that Renault Zoe is built on the modernized Renault Clio platform. The differences are only in the suspension and they are due to the fact that the trolley has become 250 kg heavier due to the battery. Therefore, the front suspension on MacPherson struts had to be installed on a subframe from Megan, and the rear torsion beam had to be strengthened.

But with a 120-mm clearance, the center of gravity of the electric car has become lower by 30 millimeters, the track is wider, which means that the car has become more stable. Nevertheless, the electric motor assembly with inverter and charger weighs no less than a standard gasoline or diesel engine with automatic transmission. A fly in the ointment, it turns out, was made by the charger, which could be eliminated if the charging method for all electric cars was standardized.

The electric car received a very simple interior, but at the same time quite spacious and ergonomic. The layout features and the location of the battery affected the convenience of landing the rear passengers - unlike the Clio, they will not be able to stretch their legs under the front seats, there is simply no room now. And the front row of seats has also changed. The seat profiles are not very comfortable, although the seat with integrated headrests is soft and adjustable this way and that. The steering wheel is exactly the same as on the Clio, but the displays, even according to the law of the genre in eco-cars, should be different. Colored, bright, with rich graphics, a bunch of special effects. There are two displays - one in front of the driver acts as a dashboard. The second is on the center console. The branded R-link multimedia system works quickly and pleasantly, the colors are saturated and delight the eye with spring green environmentally friendly tones.

Only even an advanced multimedia system will not be able to distract from the obviously cheap plastic from which the front panel is made in the Renault Zoe of inexpensive trim levels. An air ionizer in the cabin, a flavoring agent, and a proprietary navigation system were squeezed into the composition of the multimedia system.

One of the multimedia screenshots will also tell about the maniacal environmental friendliness - it will show the level of air pollution that people have to breathe outside the car. But the toxicity sensor is not installed here in vain - as soon as the air becomes unacceptably dirty, the ventilation ducts and air ducts are automatically blocked. Breathe clean air.

It is called a heat pump, but in fact, it is an ordinary air conditioning system that is installed in every office, a standard split system. They say that it is much more efficient than a conventional heating element and, in addition, saves electricity. True, in terms of settings, it is more complicated and reacts much more sensitively to changes in the weather overboard. However, the main task of every electric gadget and system on board the Renault Zoe is to extend the driving time, increase the range, and save as much as possible. Here even the rubber is special, specially designed for the Renault Zoe by Michelin. The tires on the EnergyEV model should increase charge-to-charge mileage by as much as 6%. This was achieved due to softer sidewalls and lower rolling resistance, and the grip properties were not affected.

According to the owners, the energy consumption was about 15-16 kW / h per hundred kilometers in the urban cycle, which is 6-7 kW / h less than that of the Nissan Leaf. True, so far this is theoretical and not entirely clear to a motorist unprepared for electricity. For example, everyone understands how to refuel a gasoline or diesel car. But what about the electric car? There are several options here:

  • the battery can be charged in about eight hours to 100% capacity, for this you can use either a regular household outlet or a special wall charger;
  • accelerated charge mode - in this case, it is necessary to use the services of a special gas station, charging will take from 10 to 30 minutes until the battery is full capacity;
  • the most extreme option, but also the fastest, is battery replacement, however, this is possible only in special service centers, which are not very numerous in Europe either.

Of course, there are certain inconveniences, even significant ones. For example, on a Renault Zoe you can’t drive further than 200 km from the outlet, otherwise you will have to get to electricity in tow, and the second important factor is the price. The fact is that at the dawn of electromobilism, manufacturers were talking with might and main that they were optimizing the cost of dysprosium (metal for the manufacture of electric motors), but in fact its price had increased by almost 18 times. This, of course, affects the price of an electric car. In addition, in Europe, each of the owners of electric cars pays a monthly rent of about 80 euros per battery, so that, taking into account the price of gasoline and diesel fuel, the operating cost of a car with an internal combustion engine and an electric car is almost identical.
