Mercedes Gelendvagen: an unfading classic. Charged Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG W464 New gelandewagen amg

The death of John Lennon, the premiere of Star Wars: Episode V, the 1980 Winter Olympics and the Mercedes-Benz G-Class. 1980 was an eventful year in history, it became special for. Who would have thought what would happen to the then military jeep, the recently appeared Mercedes-Benz G-Klass? If its creators had been told that their offspring would be one of the most luxurious, fastest and most expensive cars in the MB line, they would definitely have twisted their heads and said a few “flattering” epithets to such an eccentric.

But what does not happen in life! What kind of interweaving of events does not happen. So in our case, from a once inconspicuous, but capable of overcoming off-road obstacles, a jeep turned out to be quite a cool racing projectile, luxurious and expensive, comparable to!

G-Class 35 Years On… 2016 Mercedes-AMG G63 463Edition Review

Take a quick look at the exquisite square panel and your eyes will immediately appreciate several important nuances.

Firstly, despite the same boxy style that is present in the new AMG G-Class, it is perceived much more pleasantly and even elegantly in many ways. The illusion is created by combining two design styles, the directly angular lines of the panels and the rounded, pleasant shapes of the peripheral parts of the design. A neat steering wheel that clearly shows you that you are not in a utilitarian SUV that stands out against the general background of the interior, a laconic dashboard, very comfortable and refined seats in their own way ... All these details unobtrusively, but clearly tell us that a long time ago Gelendwagen moved away from off-road and turned into the unique one that it is now.

All that designer vinaigrette of the interior gets even fancier in AMG's G-Class, which adds a healthy dose of sport to the mix.

The off-road abilities themselves, which will be revealed in full force if the right tires are installed on the G Wagen, are persistently reminded of themselves by three large buttons for switching differential modes. A look through the windshield and MB reminds you again that this is not a car, a massive, square hood, with turn signal bosses on the left and right sides, it is impossible to confuse with anything.

The cockpit of the 463 Edition is very well thought out, every material is of the highest quality, from the carbon fiber switches to the luxurious leather surrounding the passengers, the contrasting two-tone seats, glass inserts and good quality non-staining plastics. I don’t know who can think of driving this magnificent device ... it will simply be a banal pity to get it dirty!

Turn even further and you'll notice two flat rectangles of glass that would be better suited as an oven door than glass for any modern car.

And yet, while the SUV is based on a 35-year-old car, the 2016 G Class is still capable of impressing and surprising time and time again.

That feeling behind the wheel of the G63 AMG that cannot be mistaken for any other

I assure you that any person who drives an AMG G-Klass for the first time after a couple of minutes of confusion and embarrassment will stretch out in a wide smile, this is inevitable. With the G63 AMG 463 Edition, things are about the same, only the emotions will be stronger and more adrenaline, because this unique car is ready to provide cannon acceleration for its rider in 5.4 seconds and under the hood.

This unprincipled major seems to mock all the dogmas and mainstream of modern automotive industry. When all countries and automakers are trying to take care of the environment, the hero of our story, on the contrary, is doing everything possible not to become like a herd.

Dominance begins under the hood, the explosive 5.5-liter V8 engine was originally laid in the AMG character. The 463 Edition shows a power increase over the standard G63 (537 hp) to 571 hp. Accompanying this power is a juicy, bassy, perhaps one of the best among all those that you have heard from a V8 in recent times.

Infinitely huge power and an all-wheel drive system are able to catapult the G63 2.5 ton SUV to 100 km/h in just 5.4 seconds, which once again shows the exclusivity of this car.

To really understand the capabilities of an AMG SUV, push the gas pedal all the way down and you will feel something completely different from what you expect from this car, after familiarizing yourself with its characteristics. It doesn't have fast acceleration, it's just brutal! From 1.500 to 5.000 rpm, 677 Nm will launch you along a straight stretch of highway with acceleration comparable only to that of an airplane.

It is an almost surreal experience, exacerbated by the excessively obtuse angle of the windshield and the fact that it is located quite close to your smiling face ... At speeds, you might think that the midges, which remain on the glass in multi-colored dots, will try it sooner or later. Or some other catastrophe will happen. And all because the fact that "" can fly at such speeds cannot fit in the head of any person.

Quadraticity makes itself felt with a cheerful howl of the wind, no noise reduction system could interrupt this steady sound after overcoming the mark of 120-140 km / h, but this is not required. With a set of speed, the uterine, rich and very sonorous voice of the bi-turbo V8 bursts into battle. At a speed of 210, the sound of the engine reaches its maximum limits, best of all blocking the howls from behind the side.

The sounds of the G63 AMG, in general, are a separate topic, along with the sound of the engine and its turbines, side exhaust pipes add brutal melody, you can easily determine from them that you have a car of exactly the version without even looking for the cherished nameplates on the car body.

From straight as an arrow sections of highways, autobahns and highways, where, as you have already understood, it has proven itself from the best side, we are moving to two-lane winding paths. The silence and fragrance of nature, the tranquility that our ward will blow up with great pleasure, and for the third time, will surprise with its capabilities.

When you are behind the wheel of such an expensive and huge 2.5-ton mammoth, you involuntarily begin to adapt to the driving style dictated by it. You go through sharp turns smoothly, you try not to go too far so as not to fly into a ditch, you feel out the capabilities of the G63 AMG.

After a certain time, for different people in different ways, having assessed the strength of the brakes, you are finally convinced that the layer between the body and the road is designed surprisingly thoughtfully, the chassis handling balance of this SUV is similar in some of its characteristics to passenger sports models. At the same time, the chassis remains the same unkillable set of levers, silent blocks, springs and shock absorbers, for which all SUV lovers around the world respect Gelendvagen so much.

But you still don’t need to go too far in corners, still make a discount, you are driving an SUV. Yes, very powerful, yes, technically well-thought-out, but still, an SUV. Therefore, when entering a corner at high speed or when passing a sharp corner, be vigilant, watch out for possible understeer.

It is at such moments that you begin to remember the main nature of Gelendvagen and the patrimony for which he was born - off-road, rivers, forest paths, mud and snow. Give him a break, don't treat the G63 as a 458 Speciale competitor. G-Klass AMG is not a professional in speed, rather it is a fun car created specifically for enjoying the very fact of owning it.

In the city on the MB G63 AMG

And finally, the last level of use of the G63 is the city. Modern, as you have already seen, feels great in all possible operating conditions. It's beautifully crafted and well thought out. It remains to find out the last level, urban use.

How will this 2.5-ton, large SUV feel in urban areas? Really great! No matter how paradoxical it may sound. , as well as the expense will always satisfy its potential owner, in 80% of cases for hijackers this supercar will be practically not available for theft, it will never be cut on the road or blocked in the parking lot. This phenomenon is explained simply - a person who can afford to buy a car for 11,000,000 rubles in the basic configuration is able to easily secure a separate parking space at work, a garage or a parking lot at home. For him, there will be no problem with the consumption of 20-25 liters of 95th gasoline. His money is everything. And believe me, this car is very fond of big money.

Few people may not think that the capabilities of the “charged” AMG versions of the Mercedes-Benz G-class are not enough, but gourmets from the German brand’s court tuning studio in 2013 truly surprised the world by creating a six-wheeled “monster” in the likeness of military pickups, but with an eye on civic rich. The three-axle G63 AMG 6 × 6 (this is its official name) was produced until 2015 in small series, and several copies settled in Russia.

The front part of the Gelendvagen 6x6 in the pickup solution repeats in its design the “face” of a traditional SUV, but its feed is unique - with two pairs of wheels on each side and a body. The car looks somewhat awkward, but you can’t refuse it in impressiveness and power.

The length of the Mercedes G63 AMG 6 × 6 is set at 5875 mm, height - 2280 mm, width - 2110 mm. The wheelbase of the pickup is stretched to 4220 mm, and its clearance under the bottom is an impressive 460 mm. The weight of the "German" in the stowed state is a little less than 4 tons - 3850 kg.

The interior of the six-wheeled SUV is unified in front with the decoration of the standard Gelendvagen - a steering wheel with control elements, a modern instrument cluster with a color display, a massive center console with a multimedia center screen towering above it and luxurious finishing materials.

A feature of the G63 AMG 6 × 6 is the layout of the cabin with four individual seats, endowed with electric adjustments, heating, ventilation and a massage function.

Specifications. The huge pickup is powered by a 5.5-litre bi-turbocharged V8 petrol unit that unleashes 554 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 760 Nm of peak torque generated from 2,000 to 5,000 rpm.
The unit is combined with a 7-band “automatic” and a unique all-wheel drive technology with five differentials (an interaxle between the third and second axles and an interwheel of the third axle are added to the basic three) and the distribution of potential in the following parts - 30:40:30.

Despite the “monstrous” mass, the Gelandewagen-AMG 6 × 6 accelerates to the first hundred in 6 seconds, gaining 160 km / h to the limit and “eating” an average of 22 liters of gasoline in combined mode.

This SUV is also capable of much off-road: the depth of the ford to be overcome is 100 cm, the exit angle is 54 degrees, the entry angle is 52 degrees.

The three-axle architecture of the G-class pickup truck was taken as the basis for the three-axle Gelendvagen 6x6. The car is equipped with a dependent suspension based on trailing arms and with Panhard rod on all axles. Disc brakes with ventilation are installed on six wheels, and the steering system is supplemented by hydraulic booster.

Prices. The G63 AMG 6 × 6 entered the market in a limited edition, and in 2015 its production was completed. As for the cost, the SUV was offered to Russian buyers for at least 24 million 500 thousand rubles, and to European buyers for 451,010 euros. At the same time, in the arsenal of the "6-wheeler" there is a rich list of equipment, not much different from that of the "top" versions of the four-wheeled "Gelendvagen".

The new Mercedes G-class 2018-2019 was officially presented at the auto show in. The new generation of the German SUV Mercedes G-Class will replace the legendary, produced since 1979, which over the years of production has gone from a thoroughbred all-terrain vehicle to a chic premium model with excellent off-road performance. In our review, the Mercedes Gelandewagen AMG model in the new body of 2018-2019 - photos and videos, price and equipment, technical characteristics of the new generation Gelika. Sales of the new Mercedes G-class Gelendvagen in Europe and Russia will start in June 2018 price from 107,040 euros for the version of the Mercedes-Benz G 500 with AMG's 422-horsepower V8 biturbo petrol in the company with the 9G-Tronic automatic transmission.

In our preliminary review, we talked in detail about . So in this article we will focus on the body and, of course, on its modern design, as well as the technical stuffing of the new generation G-Class. The technology of the new Gelandewagen has absorbed almost all the developments of the German manufacturer, created over almost 40 years of production of the first generation of the model. At the same time, the developers tried to improve the new Gelik as much as possible in all respects, bringing the new product to a higher level.

The new Mercedes-Benz G-Class has retained the familiar and recognizable look of its predecessor, but has noticeably increased in size. The novelty has grown in length by 53 mm to an impressive 4715 mm and has become wider by as much as 121 mm, showing a body with a width of 1881 mm. An increase in the external overall dimensions of the body is possible and not very noticeable from the outside, but it is clearly evident as soon as you get into the interior of a new SUV.

The driver and front passenger are allocated 38 mm more legroom, in the front of the cabin at shoulder level, 38 mm has been added, and at elbow level, 68 mm. Passengers in the second row of legroom have now become 150 mm more, at shoulder level the increase is 27 mm, and at elbow level 56 mm. So in the cabin of the new Mercedes G-class is much more spacious than in the cabin of its predecessor, ready to go on a well-deserved rest.

At the heart of the new generation of the German SUV is, of course, a frame made of high-strength steel. The new body with a steel frame and aluminum attachments (wings, hood and doors) demonstrates excellent torsional rigidity - 10162 Nm / deg (for the old model 6537 Nm / deg). High-strength steel and aluminum made it possible to reduce the curb weight of the new Gelendvagen by as much as 170 kg compared to the previous generation SUV, and this despite the increased overall dimensions of the body.

The minimum ground clearance has increased by 6 mm to 241 mm, the fording depth is 700 mm (+100 mm compared to its predecessor). The geometric cross-country ability of the body has increased, albeit not significantly, but still a nice bonus.
Approach angle -31 degrees, ramp angle - 26 degrees, departure angle - 30 degrees.

From technology, let's return to the new exterior design of the Gelika body and note that we have a stylishly tweaked with light touches and modern equipment (LED headlights and marker lights with LED filling), a familiar and beloved image of the previous car model. Everything is so familiar and familiar that it will even seem to the uninitiated that the Mercedes G-Class just survived another restyling ... in fact, we have a completely new body, but retaining the familiar features of its predecessor.

The front part of the body with a hood rising above the wings, round headlights and a rectangular false radiator grille, a compact bumper. From the side, the body of the novelty is almost indistinguishable from the model of the previous generation, as well as from behind. In a word, as the G-Class was a “cube”, it remained so.

Specifications Mercedes-Benz G-Class 2018-2019.
The new Gelendvagen is built on a newly created ladder-type frame with a fully independent double wishbone front suspension (attached directly to the frame, without a subframe). A reinforced continuous axle is installed at the back, attached to the frame with four trailing arms and a Panhard rod. Spring suspension, front suspension with compression of 8.5 cm and rebound of 10 cm, rear compression of the suspension springs of 8.2 cm, and rebound as much as 14.2 cm. Steering rack with electric power, all-wheel disc brakes.

The drive is full, with three differential locks. The distribution of thrust between the front and rear wheels is by default 40 to 60 in favor of the rear axle. Downshift with a gear ratio of 2.93. There are also electronics that change the characteristics of the engine, gearbox, steering and suspension, depending on the selected mode: Comfort, Sport, Eco, Individual or G-Mode (off-road mode).

From the start of sales, the new Gelendvagen will be available in only one version, this is the Mercedes-Benz G 500 with a 4.0-liter V8 biturbo petrol engine (422 hp 610 Nm) in the company with a new 9-speed automatic transmission (9G-Tronic). The fuel consumption declared by the manufacturer will be at least 11.1 liters of gasoline in the combined cycle.
By the end of 2018, Mercedes promises to offer customers a wider range of V6 and V8 petrol and diesel engines for the new generation Gelika.

Which many initially mistook for a new generation, although the developers themselves call the modernization only a deep restyling of an SUV in the back of the W463. Be that as it may, but now it's the turn of the “charged” version of the Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG 2018-2019, declassified a couple of weeks before the official premiere. As it turned out, the new G 63 AMG received a different engine, a redesigned front end and a number of point changes in the chassis.

Background of appearance

For the first time, a "charged" G-class SUV, which received the G55 index, appeared at Mercedes-Benz in 2000 after buying the AMG tuning studio. In 2012, Gelendvagen experienced another restyling, during which the model range was replenished with modifications of the G63 and G65, but work on the preparation of the current debutant G63 AMG 2019 began back in 2016.

Release dates and price

The official premiere of the novelty is scheduled for early March, and it will take place as part of the presentation show at the Geneva Motor Show. European and American dealers of the Mercedes-AMG G63 should appear in June, and initially a special version of Edition 1 with red body and interior design elements will enter the market. The updated off-road vehicle will reach Russia presumably by July.

The price of the “charged” version has not yet been announced, but it is already known that the trimmed G 500 turned out to be slightly more expensive than the pre-styling version. This means that we should expect a slight price increase for the G63, which is currently offered for at least 12,200,000 rubles. The new G63 AMG will, in fact, compete with itself, since the Land Rover Defender, which is close in off-road spirit, has already been discontinued, and cars seem to play in a different price range.

Differences from the base model outside and inside

As we already know, the restyling did not affect the square shape of the Gelendvagen body, but the G 63 still has some differences from the usual G 500 in terms of design. Firstly, the “charged” all-terrain vehicle received a different grille and a prettier bumper in the AMG style. Secondly, for oversized wheels, wheel arches had to be built up. Thirdly, the exhaust pipes were brought out on both sides under the rear of the thresholds. And fourthly, on the "body" of the G 63 you can find branded nameplates.

The back of the body of the all-terrain vehicle

The interior design of the G63 AMG and G500 is almost identical. The main difference is the use on the "sixty-third" of a special AMG-steering wheel with a rim beveled at the bottom and trimmed with Nappa leather. In addition, already in the base G63 receives the so-called multi-contour seats, available on the "five hundred" only as an option. Their main feature is the presence of automatic adjustment of the position of the lateral support and lumbar support. In addition, the new chairs are able to remember user settings, they are also equipped with ventilation, heating and a massage function. A very funny element of the interior of all models of the updated G-class is the door opening handle in the style of Moskvich 2141 with an extremely inconvenient location.

Interior of the G 63 AMG

Almost 600 "horses" under the hood

If the previously shown G 500 is equipped with a 4.0-liter turbocharged V8 engine with a return of just over 420 hp, then Mercedes has prepared a more efficient power unit for the top-end G63 AMG 2018-2019 SUV. It also has 8 V-shaped cylinders with a displacement of 4.0 liters, two upgraded turbines, a different fuel supply system and reprogrammed electronic "brains". The power of such a “biturbo-eight” has grown to an impressive 585 hp, and peak torque has jumped to 870 Nm, which are available in the range from 2500 to 3500 rpm. In comparison with the pre-styling version, the power unit added 14 “horses” and 110 Nm of thrust.

Turbo V8 Biturbo 585 hp

A more powerful engine, of course, required a different gearbox, so instead of the 9G-Tronic in the G 500, the Germans will install the 9-band automatic transmission AMG Speedshift TCT 9G on the new G63. With it, the updated SUV picks up speed of 100 km / h in 4.5 seconds, which, with a square body design, looks more than impressive. The “maximum speed” of the Mercedes G 63 AMG is declared at around 220 km/h, but for an additional fee it can be raised to 240 km/h.

Chassis of a real SUV

Like other representatives of the G-class, the “hot” G63 is assembled on a high-strength steel frame chassis. A lightweight body is planted on the frame, some of the elements of which (doors, hood and fenders) are now made of aluminum. Restyling gave the SUV an independent suspension with double wishbones at the front, but at the back, a well-proven design with a solid axle, Panhard rod and four trailing arms is used.

Already in the “base”, the SUV receives adaptive shock absorbers and a reconfigured AMG Performance 4Matic all-wheel drive system (the reduction gear ratio has been increased from 2.1 to 2.93). Belonging to the AMG-series is further emphasized by sports disc brake calipers painted in red and a special design of 22-inch rims.

The updated 2018-2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class SUV made its debut at the Detroit Auto Show, which traditionally opens its doors in January. The car in the body of the W463, which has been leading its history since 1990, has gone through another modernization, which almost did not affect the external design, but seriously affected the interior decoration, equipment and technical equipment of the model. The new Mercedes Gelendvagen 2018-2019 will go on sale in June of this year at a price of 107,040 euros (about 7.37 million rubles). This is how much the G 500 version with a 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine producing 422 hp will cost in Germany. power and 610 Nm of torque. The cost of diesel and "charged" (Mercedes-AMG G 63) modifications will be announced later. It is still planned to assemble the new Mercedes Gelandewagen at the plant in Graz, Austria.

New body: dimensions and cross-country ability

Without starting to change something drastically in appearance, the developers have thoroughly revised the power structure of the SUV. It is based, as before, on a ladder-type frame, but its rigidity has been increased by 55% - from 6537 to 10162 Nm / deg.

The frame of the new G-Class

The frame-matched body, which consists mainly of high-strength steels, received some aluminum elements - these are doors, hood and fenders. As a result of improvements, the new G-Class dropped 170 kg from its original weight, but at the same time retained a curb weight of more than two tons.

Body

During the update, the Mercedes Gelendvagen added in size - the length increased by 53 mm (up to 4715 mm), the width increased by 121 mm (up to 1881 mm). Ground clearance has increased by six millimeters, reaching 241 mm. The geometric cross-country ability of the body of the German all-terrain vehicle, albeit quite a bit, has improved: the approach angle was 31 degrees (+1), the ramp angle was 26 degrees (+2), the exit angle was 30 degrees (unchanged). The maximum wading depth has increased to 700 mm (+100 mm).

Spot edits to appearance

Mercedes designers very carefully approached the correction of the appearance of a charismatic and still successfully sold SUV (about 20 thousand units sold in 2016). The new model has retained the classic profile and characteristic chopped forms, returning to the military past of the car. Also, branded "chips" have not gone away - a flat windshield, a towering hood, lurid door handles with buttons, external door hinges, a spare tire enclosed in a casing on the fifth door.

Photo Mercedes G-class 2018-2019

However, there are plenty of innovations on the body of the modernized Mercedes G-Class, even if not all of them are easily identified during a cursory examination. First of all, the novelty is given out by a redesigned nose part of the body, which has acquired LED headlights and a new bumper with corners smoothed for the sake of increasing pedestrian safety. Finding other differences from a little more difficult, but a careful look can easily detect a different location of the gas tank hatch (now located on the right above the rear wing), the absence of seals on the windshield, the disappearance of air ducts on the front fenders, rounded door corners. Another nuance is that the body parts of the new Gelendvagen are fitted more carefully, so the gaps between them are now minimal.

New stern design

The tweaked contours of the SUV did not affect its aerodynamic characteristics. The Cx coefficient for the new G-Wagen is the same as for the previous version of the model - 0.54.

Large-scale reorganization of the salon

If on the outside Gelendvagen remained 100% recognizable, then inside it was literally transformed in every detail. At the same time, it is curious that the interior modification of perhaps the most “masculine” car was managed by a female designer, Lilia Chernaeva. It is not surprising that during the development, the bias was made towards manufacturability and comfort, however, in the new vision, there was a place for clumsy and even rude elements that do not let us forget that we have before us the interior of a brutal SUV, and not a sedan or coupe. But first things first.

First, let's focus on the thoroughly redrawn front panel, in the design of which there are a lot of borrowings from the latest Mercedes innovations - sedans and. For example, Gelendvagen obviously got a new steering wheel with a convenient gearbox control joystick from the flagship four-door. As for the round ventilation deflectors that replaced the archaic rectangular ones, they no doubt migrated from. In general, the panel as a whole and the center console in particular began to look much more stylish thanks to the appearance of modern information displays and button blocks.

Photo of the interior of the Gelandewagen in the basic configuration

But let's make a reservation right away that two advanced 12.3-inch screens, combined into a single block and placed under one glass, rely not on all versions of the new G-class, but only on expensive ones. In the initial version, the car is equipped with a classic dashboard with arrow indicators. But the control panel for the Comand Online multimedia system is present in all trim levels and is located on a completely updated inter-passenger tunnel, which got rid of the gearshift lever (now the gears are switched on the steering column) and the handbrake handle (the electric parking brake is now used). Unloading the tunnel also made it possible to organize a double-leaf box armrest and a pair of cup holders. Only the handrail for the front passenger and three catchy differential lock control buttons on the console (located exactly between the air vents) remind of the old Gelik in the cabin of the new model.

Photo salon top version

The top trim levels of the new Mercedes G-Class will please you with an unprecedented abundance of available equipment. In addition to the tandem of 12.3-inch screens, the equipment list includes several trim options using high-quality materials (leather, alcantara, wood, aluminum), fully electrified Active Multicontour Seat front seats (heating, massage, ventilation, adjustable lateral support), three-zone climate control -control, wireless charging of smartphones, Burmester premium acoustics with 16 speakers.

Armchairs of the first row

All the above improvements are good, but the main positive result of the update in relation to the Gelendvagen cabin is still to be recognized as an increase in its size, and as a result, the amount of free space in both rows. First of all, the front landing pattern has changed - now the riders will not feel cramped in the shoulders, and the driver will receive additional space for the right leg, so that he can comfortably manipulate the pedals (surprisingly, there were problems with this in the pre-reform car). The increase in the comfort of the front passengers has a numerical expression: the increase in the leg area was 38 mm, the same amount became more spacious in the shoulder area.

rear seats

More comfort and hospitality are now ready to offer the rear seats of the Mercedes Gelendvagen. Firstly, second-row passengers will immediately feel more freedom due to the fact that the distance between the backs of the front and rear seats has increased by as much as 150 mm, and an additional 27 mm of headroom has appeared in the shoulder area. Secondly, the sofa itself has become much more comfortable, it is equipped with adjustable backs and a central armrest, behind which there is a hatch for long lengths. And, finally, thirdly, the rear passengers will receive a personal climate control panel for use (three-zone “climate” is not available for all versions) and roomy pockets on the doors.

Specifications Mercedes Gelandewagen 2018-2019

Specialists from the Mercedes-AMG division worked on the chassis of the new Gelendvagen. They completely revised the old design, as a result of which the SUV acquired an independent two-lever front mounted directly in the frame (a subframe was used before). At the rear, a continuous bridge was installed on the car, complemented by four levers and a Panhard rod.

Chassis Mercedes Gelendvagen

The drive of the novelty, of course, is complete. The transfer box is combined with the gearbox, there is a reduction gear (ratio 2.93) and a lock of three differentials (the central differential is mechanical with an electronically controlled lock-up clutch). Standard thrust is distributed between the front and rear axles in a ratio of 40/60. You can change the driving mode using the Dynamic Select switch, which provides five driving programs: Comfort, Sport, Eco, Individual and G-Mode. When choosing one or another mode, the settings for the operation of the motor, gearbox, electric power steering and adaptive shock absorbers are adjusted. The inclusion of any of the locks or "lowering" initiates the forced activation of "G-Mode" regardless of the current position of the selector.

From the first days of sales, the new Gelandewagen will be offered in just one version - the Mercedes-Benz G 500. Under the hood of such a car, a 4.0 V8 petrol turbo unit with a return of 422 hp will be prescribed. and 610 Nm. It will be paired with a nine-speed automatic 9G-Tronic. According to the manufacturer, the average fuel consumption of the G500 should fluctuate around 11.1 liters per 100 km.

By the end of 2018 - the beginning of 2019, the line of G-class modifications will be replenished with a “charged” Mercedes-AMG G 63 with a 612-horsepower V8 engine and a diesel version with a 2.9-liter “six” (estimated G 400d index).
