Matiz weight 0.8. Technical characteristics of "deo matiz" - a car for women

The Daewoo Matiz model is designed on the Tico platform, the production of which was launched back in 1988. Matiz was designed by ItalDesign. It is noteworthy that the studio planned to give the originally created body to Fiat. The compact five-door car Daewoo Matiz was promoted only in Western Europe. The first production model was shown at the Geneva Motor Show in 1998. The car was equipped with a 0.8-liter engine with a capacity of 50-56 horsepower, depending on the market in which it was sold. Initially, the car was equipped with only a five-speed manual transmission, but in the summer of 1999, models with automatic transmission began to be produced. In 2000, at the motor show in Paris, the manufacturer presented an updated version of the Daewoo Matiz, which became taller and more spacious. In 2001, the production of cars was launched in Uzbekistan. A year later, the car was again upgraded by installing a 1-liter engine under the hood. At the end of 2004, General Motors decided to sell cars under the Chevrolet brand. So the Chevrolet Matiz model appeared on the market, known in Russia and in several other countries as the Chevrolet Spark. The car is equipped with 0.8- and 1-liter power units with a capacity of 52 and 66 horsepower, respectively.

Secondary market December 08, 2008 Nowhere less (Daewoo Matiz, Chevrolet Spark, Kia Picanto)

Minicars (European “A” size segment) are the smallest and most affordable full-fledged cars. Moreover, with modest dimensions, they have quite a decent capacity - four passengers can accommodate inside with acceptable comfort. In addition, these machines attract with inexpensive maintenance and, as practice shows, quite “adult” reliability. The most common small cars in our secondary market are the Daewoo Matiz, which has been produced since 1998, the Kia Picanto (2003-2007), and the Chevrolet Spark, which has been produced since 2005.

Toddlers (Chevrolet Spark, Daewoo Matiz, Fiat Panda, Kia Picanto, Peugeot 107) Comparison test

The topic of today's review is the smallest cars. In other words, minicars. In total, five models belonging to this segment are presented on the Russian market. Three of them are from Asian automakers, two from European ones. The latter are more advanced technically, but are more expensive.

Democratic choice (Renault Logan, Daewoo Nexia, Daewoo Matiz, Chevrolet Spark, Chevrolet Lanos, Chevrolet Aveo, Kia Picanto) Comparison test

Our review includes seven models. The choice is wide enough. Three of them belong to segment A (minicars), the same number belong to segment B (minicars) and one plays in league C (golf class). Among them there are both quite modern cars and time-tested ones. In general, with a limited budget, choosing one of the cars to your taste will not be a problem.

Gasoline engine Matiz 0.8 liters were developed by Japanese engineers Suzuki for models of very compact cars. In particular, this engine can be found on Suzuki Alto from the 90s, although for Matiz the power unit was equipped with an injector and an electronic ignition system. As a result, the power of the current 3-cylinder gasoline engine is 52 hp. Which is pretty good for a 796cc engine.

Engine Matiz 0.8 liter The F8CV series is a three-cylinder, four-stroke engine with a 6-valve timing mechanism with a belt. The cylinder block is cast iron, the block head is made of aluminum alloy. The motor has electronically controlled fuel injection.

Daewoo Matiz 0.8 engine cylinder head

Aluminum Cylinder head Matiz 0.8 has a pastel to install the camshaft. The valves are arranged in a V-shape with respect to the combustion chamber. The opening of the valves does not occur directly from the camshaft, but through special rocker arms. The valve clearance is adjusted manually. The procedure is not complicated, however, to carry it out, strictly follow the instructions and regulations of the manufacturer.

Daewoo Matiz engine timing drive 0.8 liter

Timing drive Matiz transmits torque from the crankshaft pulley to the camshaft pulley via a belt. The replacement of the belt, rollers must be done every 40 thousand kilometers. In case of belt break on Matiz 0.8 valve bent for sure. The timing belt simultaneously rotates the pump pulley (water pump), if you notice pump leaks when replacing the belt. it is better to replace it. If there are oil stains on the belt, then the camshaft and crankshaft oil seals should be replaced. Timing diagram with marks for replacement in the photo above. How it all looks from below the engine in the photo below.

The real resource of the Matiz engine does not exceed 150 thousand kilometers. Usually, after 100 thousand kilometers, the power unit requires a major overhaul with a block bore for a new piston. This circumstance should be taken into account if you suddenly decide to buy a used Daewoo Matiz.

The car is a popular, compact urban mode of transport. Users appreciate its maneuverability, unpretentiousness and relative comfort for reasonable money.

The power unit of a vehicle in our market is represented by two modifications: F8CV is a 0.8-liter, 51hp engine; B10S1 - power plant with a volume of 1.0 liters, 63l.s.

Since 1998, only a 0.8-liter 3-cylinder gasoline engine with a manual transmission has been installed on the car. In 2003, they began to install a 1.0 liter engine with 4 cylinders.

The sore point of a smaller engine (0.8 liters), produced before 2008, was an ignition distributor with an electronic sensor. The sensor malfunctioned when it got wet. After the transition to EURO-3, the problem was eliminated.

Both engines are equipped with a multiport fuel injection system, thanks to which high power and efficiency are achieved. An exhaust gas recirculation system is also used. Particular attention should be paid to the timing belt.

If it is not replaced in time, it may break, which will lead to the failure of the entire gas distribution mechanism, as a result, expensive repairs cannot be avoided. The most common malfunction of the Daewoo Matiz engine remains a failure in the operation of the unit due to incorrect readings of the throttle position sensor.

With the introduction of a liter engine to the market in 2002, the dynamics of the car increased significantly. The engine differs from the younger brother in an improved traction indicator throughout the entire rev range. In addition, Daewoo Matiz engine repairs have to be done less frequently due to the increased reliability of the unit.

Typical malfunctions of power plants

Power units have good characteristics. The engine resource with careful operation and proper technical care is about 200,000 km. In general, the daewoo matiz engine is reliable and simple, the main drawbacks occur due to the failure of attachments. The main malfunctions of the motor include:

  • Knock of the crankshaft;
  • Breakage of the partitions of the pistons in the area of the piston rings;
  • Cylinder head failure.

The owner of the vehicle bears the main responsibility for all these breakdowns, since they mainly occur due to poor maintenance. For example, the knock of the crankshaft occurs due to overloads arising from low-quality oil, or untimely replacement of the old one with a new one.

Breakage of piston partitions and cracks in the cylinder head occur as a result of overheating.

Repair of power plants, main types of work

The design of the motors is simple, if necessary, maintenance or repair can be carried out independently. Engine repair Daewoo Matiz is conditionally divided into current and capital. Current repairs include:

  • Valve setting;
  • Servicing the cylinder head gasket;
  • Removal and installation of new piston rings;
  • Elimination of the causes of oil leakage;
  • Repair or replacement of the oil pump.

Overhaul is carried out on the condition that the power unit has worked out its assigned resource or its operation has led to a serious breakdown and it is not advisable to do current repairs.

For a major overhaul, the Daewoo Matiz engine must be removed from the vehicle. How much it weighs depends on the modification, whether the unit is dry or wet, in any case, dismantling should be carried out using a winch. After, it must be disassembled, determine the degree of wear, reject and replace damaged parts.

At the end of the repair, the motor requires a break-in in gentle conditions. To achieve them, it is necessary to limit the load on the unit, do not spin the crankshaft to maximum speed. The break-in period is designed for 2-3 thousand km.

Replacing the timing belt

Replacing parts of the gas distribution mechanism on a deumatiz car is not difficult and can be done independently. The main thing that the user should remember is that the marks on the shafts (camshaft and crankshaft) must be correctly set. In the event of an error, the engine valves can be damaged, and then the elimination of this breakdown will be much more troublesome.

Powertrain Valve Adjustment

In the Daewoo matiz engine, the valves are adjusted in accordance with the vehicle maintenance regulations. The operation should be carried out once every 50,000 km. Run. To do this, a series of sequential actions are performed, details of which can be read in the instructions, or technical documentation for each power plant.

Changing the oil and oil filter in power plants

The manufacturer recommends changing the oil in the Matiz engine every 10,000 km. Failure to comply with this requirement may adversely affect the life of the unit. It is recommended to fill in oil: 5w30, 5w40, 10w30, 10w40 synthetics or semi-synthetics.

The life of your internal combustion engine directly depends on what kind of oil is poured into the unit in terms of quality. Preference should be given to buying products of well-known brands: Mobil, Aral, etc.

The amount of oil in the Daewoo engine depends on which power unit is installed on the vehicle. If the F8CV (0.8) engine is installed, the oil volume is 2.7 liters; with a B10S1 (1.0) engine, 3.2 liters of oil will need to be poured. Do not forget when pouring oil into the engine - the oil filter must first be replaced.

The compact urban hatchback Daewoo Matiz has been produced since 1998, thanks to its low gas mileage, its maneuverability and reliability, the car has gained considerable popularity in Russia. The Daewoo Matiz 0.8 engine is the most basic power unit that was installed on this car.

The motor has a lot of positive qualities, but it also has quite serious drawbacks. In this article, we will consider the pros and cons of a subcompact engine, its characteristics and features in repair.

F8CV engine

A 0.8-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine began to be installed on the Daewoo Matiz from the very beginning of the production of this car, and at first it was the only Matiz power unit. In 2003, a 1.0-liter engine (64 hp) also appeared on the car, and it was already a four-cylinder. The 3-cylinder S-TEC engine for a Korean car was developed jointly by Daewoo Motors and Suzuki, it is designed for use in small and small cars.

The 0.8 liter engine has a somewhat unusual sound, it works as if it were a motorcycle engine. Despite the low power, Daewoo Matiz with the F8CV power unit is gaining momentum quite quickly - for a light car weight (less than one ton), the motor is enough.

The cylinder block of the F8CV internal combustion engine is cast iron, the cylinder head is aluminum, two valves are installed in each combustion chamber. The location of the camshaft in the engine is upper, the shaft is in the cylinder head bed. Timing drive - belt, rollers and belt must be changed every 40 thousand km. If the replacement schedule is not followed, the belt may break, in which case the valves bend in the cylinder head. It is impossible to allow a break in the belt drive - the meeting of valves with pistons can render parts of the cylinder-piston group unusable, and repairs will then be expensive.

The Daewoo Matiz 0.8 engine has the following specifications:

  • Volume - 796 cm³;
  • power - 52 liters. With.;
  • number of cylinders - 3;
  • the total number of valves in the cylinder head is 6;
  • diameter of standard pistons - 68.5 mm;
  • compression ratio - 9.2;
  • piston stroke - 72 mm;
  • fuel used - AI-92;
  • cooling - liquid;
  • power system - injector (distributed injection).

The crankshaft is mounted in the cylinder block on four bearings, on top 4 covers are tightened with bolts. Shaft journal diameter:

  • indigenous - 44 mm (-0.02 mm);
  • connecting rod - 38 mm (-0.02 mm).

If the crankshaft has wear, the crankshaft must be ground. There are repair sizes of main and connecting rod bearings:

  • first repair - 0.25 mm;
  • the second repair is 0.5 mm.

Also, the motor has piston repair dimensions:

  • 68.75 mm (+0.25 mm) - first repair;
  • 69.00 mm (+0.5 mm) - second repair.

As the cylinder liners of the block wear out, they are bored, if it is no longer possible to bore out for the last repair, it is necessary to re-sleeve the BC or replace the block.

Typical F8CV engine malfunctions

The Matiz 0.8 engine has a good resource - with careful operation and timely maintenance, the service life of an internal combustion engine is on average 200 thousand km. But the motor has its own characteristic diseases, the most frequent breakdowns. On the first Daewoo Matiz cars, a distributor was installed, and this part in the ignition system did not differ in particular reliability. Often, due to a faulty distributor, the engine stopped starting, and since the distributor is unrepairable, it had to be changed. Since 2008, F8CV engines have gone without distributors - the ECU began to control the ignition, so there were fewer problems with starting the internal combustion engine. Despite the rather high reliability, in the Daewoo Matiz 0.8 engine it is often:

  • knocking crankshaft;
  • piston partitions burst under the piston rings;
  • the cylinder head fails.

But all these serious breakdowns occur solely through the fault of car owners. The crankshaft mainly knocks due to overloads, the use of low-quality engine oil. For some reason, drivers believe that if the motor is “not serious”, then there is no need to properly service it. Partitions under the piston rings on the pistons always burst due to overheating, for the same reason cracks appear in the combustion chambers of the cylinder head.

The main diseases of F8CV are more often manifested not so much in the motor itself, but in attachments. The most painful place here is the generator, especially the failure of the diode bridge occurs. Parts come out most often in conditions of high humidity, in other cases, the generator may require repair already at a run of 50 thousand km.

The starter on the Matiz lasts longer, it may need repairs somewhere in 80-100 thousand km. However, on a Korean car, repairing attachments is not always advisable - the price of spare parts is low, and in some cases it is more profitable to completely replace the entire assembly than to spend time repairing the same generator or starter.

Engine repair Daewoo Matiz 0.8

Repairing a 0.8 liter engine on a Matiz is not difficult - the engine design is simple, many drivers will be able to figure out the engine on their own. Engine repair Daewoo Matiz 0.8 can be both current and major, current repairs include:

  • adjustment of valves;
  • cylinder head gasket replacement;
  • replacement of piston rings;
  • elimination of oil leaks;
  • oil pump replacement.

An overhaul is required if the motor has already worked out its intended resource, or there are serious breakdowns in it:

  • rattled crankshaft;
  • worn cylinder liners.

To overhaul the engine, the power unit must be removed. After removing the internal combustion engine, the worn parts should be discarded and replaced with new ones. After repair, the engine will need to be run in:

  • limit the maximum number of revolutions;
  • do not overload the engine.

Usually the break-in period lasts 2-3 thousand km. At first, the motor may consume oil, but then the rings rub against the sleeves, and the flow returns to normal. If the internal combustion engine continues to smoke, but burns out a little, most likely, a secondary disassembly of the power unit will be required. There can be several reasons for the defect:

Many Matiz car owners turn to car services with engine repairs, including trusting the masters to replace the timing belt. But the work of replacing parts of the gas distribution mechanism is not very difficult, and even if you have small locksmith skills, you can do it yourself. The most important thing in this matter is to correctly set the marks on the camshaft and crankshaft - if they are erroneously set, the valves will be bent, and then the repair will be much more serious.

We replace the timing belt on the F8CV engine as follows:

  • insert the tension roller into the fixing hole, bait the bolt;
  • we tighten the bolt and take the roller as far as possible to the side so that you can easily put the belt;
  • having installed the belt, we stretch it;
  • we check the coincidence of labels, we assemble.

The 0.8 liter Daewoo Matiz engine does not have hydraulic lifters, so the valves are manually adjusted. Typically, such an operation should be carried out once every 50 thousand kilometers, you can also adjust the valves yourself. The sequence of operations here is as follows:

We close the valve cover, start the engine, listen to how the engine works. During adjustment, it is necessary to pay attention to the condition of the camshaft cams, and if they have wear, it will not work to adjust the valves (they will knock) - in this case, it is necessary to prepare for replacing the camshaft.

The three-cylinder gasoline engine "Daewoo Matiz" of the F8CV series is a licensed and modified version of the Suzuki engine, created in the early 90s to equip the company's compact cars. On the Daewoo version, the engine was equipped with a distributed fuel injection system and an electronically controlled ignition system. Engine compartment "Daewoo Matiz" in the photo.

General design

The crankcase is cast iron and features an aluminum cylinder head with cast iron valve guides. On the block, on the milled platform under the oil filter, the serial number is stamped. The camshaft is installed in the head, the valves are driven through rocker arms. There are two engine temperature sensors on the end of the head. An electric starter is installed at the rear of the unit. On the photo block

Each cylinder has two valves with a V-shaped arrangement - for the intake of the working mixture and the exhaust gases. Such a valve installation scheme made it possible to create a hemispherical combustion chamber, which is the most optimal for the full combustion of fuel. The intake and exhaust channels are spaced on different sides of the engine. The clearance in the valve mechanism is adjusted manually using locknuts on the rocker arms.

The engine is not equipped with any balance shafts. Instead, all rotating masses were lightened as much as possible in the design. The lubrication system is also simplified to the limit. The piston pins are lubricated through a hole in the connecting rod and occur periodically - when the holes on the connecting rod and the crankshaft are aligned. There is no cooling oil supply to the bottom of the piston. The connecting rod in the upper head does not have any bronze inserts, i.e. a steel pin works on a steel head. Due to such simplifications, the real engine life does not exceed 120 thousand km.

The ignition system of early engines was equipped with a distributor with an electromagnetic sensor, which caused a lot of complaints. At the end of 2008, the 0.8-liter Daewoo Matiz engine was modified to comply with Euro 3 toxicity standards. In this regard, an electronic module was introduced into the ignition system, borrowed from a more powerful version with a volume of 1.0 liters.

Timing

The rotation of the camshaft is carried out by a belt drive, which can significantly reduce the noise of operation. The belt drive requires increased attention and regular replacement every 40 thousand km. Neglecting to replace is fraught with a broken belt. In the early versions of the engines, the replacement interval was 60 thousand km, but after massive cases of belt breaks, it was reduced. General view of the engine in the photo.

From the belt, the pump of the Daewoo Matiz engine cooling system is driven. To tension the belt in the drive there is a separate roller.

Main settings

With a working volume of only 0.796 liters, the characteristics of the Daewoo Matiz engine are quite decent - it develops power up to 51 forces at 5900 rpm and torque up to 69 N / m at 4600 rpm. But at the same time, the engine is rather uneconomical - the fuel consumption of cars equipped with F8CV in the city reaches 7.4 liters, which is a lot for such a small volume and weight. A92 gasoline can be used to run the engine.
