Lamborghini Diablo VT

Lamborghini Diablo SE30 and SE30 Jota

In 1996, Lamborghini cars competed in the Phillipe Charriol Super Sport Trophy, a one-brand competition. In order to meet the requirements of various customers, the car was equipped with a 5-speed RWD gearbox, which allows you to change the gear ratio. The gear lever is located on the central tunnel, in an asymmetric position closer to the driver. Almost all parts of the body of this "sportsman", except for the roof and doors, are made of carbon fiber. A fuel cooler for brakes was built into the extended front bumper of the car, the rear one was made in the form of “wing forms”. The engine compartment got the opportunity to “eat” more air due to the additional upper air intake. The Diablo GT was available in 4 colors: Orange, Titanium Silver, Black, and Acid Yellow. The interior of the new Diablo is replete with carbon fiber details. The air conditioning system is included as standard equipment. Since 1996, cars competing with the Lamborghini Supertrophy have been the Diablo SVR, a special racing version of the Diablo SV. After four years of competition, the Diablo SVR proved the extreme reliability of Lamborghini engines, which could handle four seasons without much trouble. A real achievement for an engine designed for a road car and taken for racing without modification.

Now, to fulfill the request of a passionate Lamborghini Supertrophy driver, the House of the Bull has unveiled the Lamborghini Diablo GTR, a car based on the Diablo GT, the most powerful version that will set a new benchmark in engine championships with no less than 590 hp. Compared to the Diablo GT, it features a redesigned chassis frame directly connected to the rear fender, sports braking system, reduced weight and a simplified interior. Additional radiators were installed to cool the transmission oil. The engine was taken from the Diablo GT, which, with a simplified catalytic-free exhaust system, variable valve timing, and a special control gear calibration, produces 590 hp. (575 in the GT model) To cool the engine, two water radiators were installed on the sides of the engine, a fuel radiator in the front, as in the Diablo GT, and additional coolers for the gearbox mounted on the rear axle. The front suspension has become stiffer. Magnesium alloy rims with central fixation serve as rims for racing tires. A special racing fuel tank was installed with a quick fill system. Most of the body parts are made of carbon fiber, only the roof is made of steel to increase longitudinal rigidity and the doors are made of aluminum alloy for safety reasons. The car was equipped with a fire extinguishing system, the cab joints were simplified, the driver's seat with a six-point seat belt was moved to the longitudinal axis of the car for better stabilization. A total of thirty Diablo GTRs were produced.

By chance, I acquired an “icon of the 90s” - a 1992 Lamborghini Diablo. with a 5.7 liter engine, "mechanics", rear-wheel drive, without any electronics for brakes and anti-buks. Firstly: the exterior is “space”! Not a single standard conventional body line. I looked at modern "Lamba" - the design is not the same, today everything is simplified, although also quite unusual. The Lamborghini Diablo is actually waist-high, wider than the Land Cruiser. The interior does not cause much enthusiasm, everything is quite simple and concise, but the dashboard closes visibility, so you immediately start to stretch your neck, but then you get used to it and look into the future. There is no rear visibility in principle - I had to put a rear view camera. The machine is designed to "fly only forward."

The starter cranks the V12 with difficulty, the engine comes to life and the guttural rumble squeezes a smile out of you and the passenger that doesn't leave your face until you lock the Lamborghini Diablo in the garage. Some say the Diablo was the last proper Lamborghini (debatable...), arguing that it was designed long before Audi bought the company and sterilized it with their German pragmatic mind.

Basic Laborghini Diablo (1990)
