The dates for the start of production of the SV Cross were repeatedly postponed until the model finally got on the conveyor on September 11, 2017. Lada Vesta SV Cross is not only a natural continuation of the development of the Vesta family, but also an attempt to correct minor flaws and childhood illnesses of the parent sedan. The technical innovations are complemented by disc rear brakes, which first appeared on domestic cars. The creator of the design of the SV Cross is the notorious Steve Martin, who also authored the appearance of such a popular station wagon as the Volvo V60.

The buyer, who is familiar with the Vesta family from the sedan, is waiting for small but pleasant changes in the cabin of the SV Cross. The space above the heads of the rear passengers has increased by 2.5 cm, and a rear armrest with cup holders has also been introduced. An orange edging appeared around the instruments on the front panel, and Vesta SV Cross also boasts orange and black inserts on the seats, front panel and door handles.

    Lada Vesta station wagon Cross (SW Cross) in many ways stands apart in the model line of the Russian company. Talk about this modification began immediately after the sales of Vesta sedan and X Ray started, and it was noted that Cross would appear immediately after a simple station wagon. And since the usual car was going to be put into production already in 2016, then those who were waiting for the Cross only had to be a little patient.

    It is immediately clear that the Volkswagen Passat Alltrack made an indelible impression on the Lada bosses, which sets the pace in this direction. Naturally, at VAZ they thought about it and came to the conclusion that it’s not so difficult to take a Vesta station wagon, add a plastic body kit to it, put a top-end engine under the hood and give it the maximum configuration.

    But all the plans of the Russian automaker were confused by the blow to the economy as a result of sanctions and other factors. It is not surprising that the leadership of the automaker seriously considered the possibility of abandoning plans for these modifications. And when information from Kolesa.ru got into the network, which happened in 2014, about the decision of the then head of AvtoVAZ, Bu Inge Andersson, to abandon plans to create a station wagon and, accordingly, his version of Cross, suspicions began to grow into confidence.

    There were fears that Bu Inge would completely abandon the development of the station wagon and its version of the Cross.

    Later, documents came into the hands of journalists, which stated the start of serial assembly of the car as early as August 2016, after which one could expect an early launch into the Cross series. However, the amended document contained only plans for a hatchback and a sedan.

    The ambiguity of the situation was exacerbated by various theories that brand fans tried to explain the actions of the concern's management. It was believed that the assembly of Vesta in such a body was being delayed due to a lack of free capacity or due to the rapid growth in the popularity of SUVs.

    The fortune-telling stopped only when Steve Mattin and Bo Andersson invited the media to a closed demonstration of the station wagon and hatchback. Although it was forbidden to take pictures, there were minimal differences from the sedan, taking into account the new body, of course.






    Many hoped that 2016 would turn out to be decisive, but the August MIAS was marked only by a cross-modification of the car, and it was a concept, so it was not worth expecting that it would go into series in the same form.

Naturally, the branded "X"-shaped sidewall stampings are in place, as are the chrome moldings in the front. Only the stern gives out the true purpose of the body.     The differences are in the nuances, but they immediately catch the eye. This version received a plastic protective body kit around and a corporate orange color called "Mars". At the back, the SW Cross sports a beautiful fifth door with shiny nameplates and a rear wing, a bumper framed with a light lining, and bifurcated exhaust pipes, which demonstrates the character of the car.

    And here it is difficult to disagree with Steve Mattin, who bluntly stated that Cross's version does not fit into any framework. This is a car for a person who does not want to lose practicality, but at the same time wants to get a bright and memorable car. And Lada Vesta SW Cross gives it all!

    Inside, the sedan immediately comes to mind. Indeed, there are no significant revisions here. On the other hand, there are orange inserts on the dashboard, seats and door cards. It must be admitted that such inserts look just great, especially against the background of black upholstery. The dashboard also stands out, the scales of which are also trimmed with orange color and hidden in deep wells.








    However, there are some changes compared to the sedan. In particular, the second row has become more comfortable, which will certainly be appreciated by tall passengers, because the height of the roof in this part has been increased by 25 mm. The back of the rear sofa itself is laid out in two versions - in the proportion of 1/3 or 2/3.

    Not bad and the trunk volume of Lada Vesta SW Cross, which reaches 480 liters, taking into account niches. By the way, 95 liters of volume was obtained by creating a raised floor.
