In April, the 14th Beijing International Auto Show was held, at which the Japanese concern Mitsubishi Motors introduced a new version of the compact crossover. Mitsubishi ACX 2017 is a worthy representative of the SUV segment. It is designed for active driving, as its full name says: Active Sport X-over. The updated model has already been seen by the public in Los Angeles and at the March show in Geneva. There are many photos on the net. What surprises has the Japanese automaker prepared for the brand's adherents? 
Exterior
The SUV received many significant transformations. The new model is made in the beloved corporate style - Dynamic Shield (literal translation from English - "Dynamic Shield"). Embodies the image of a modern car: safe, economical, manageable, passable, fast. As you can see from the photo, the compact Japanese crossover received more sporty features and began to look more energetic (thanks to 17-18 inch wheels, extended arches and an updated front end).
A traditional radiator, chrome inserts on the front bumper, new LED rear lights, upgraded head optics and fog lights, more streamlined mirrors, LED bumper lighting - the 2017 Mitsubishi ACX looks more interesting in the photo than its predecessor.
The color range, previously represented by 6 expressive shades, has been replenished with 3 new colors. Cold silver, sports blue, white silk, metallic red, black amethyst, titanium gray and new ones - mother-of-pearl, brown, silver.
The main changes took place in the design and strength of the hull, which made it possible to increase the passive safety of the car. It cannot be said that the model received a new body, but the lines have become smoother, and the individual parts are neatly intertwined, creating a holistic, complete appearance.
Smoothness and precision in driving becomes possible thanks to a solid base (wide track, extended wheelbase), independent suspensions, multi-link rear, shock absorbers and stabilizers of the car, “responsive” steering. The ASX crossover is designed for fast and confident driving.
It is not for nothing that the SUV received the name Outlander Sport in the American market. ASX repeats the features and main characteristics of its older brother Mitsubishi Outlander. Slightly inferior in power, performance, economy, but superior in environmental friendliness, tank volume and maneuverability (ASX is more compact and lighter). But let's not get ahead of ourselves... 
Mitsubishi ACX was released in 2010 and has since gained great popularity. This crossover is practical, has good cross-country ability and excellent dynamics. The 2017-2018 car is sold in 5 trim levels.
1.6 Inform 2WD MT S31
This version is equipped with a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine with the MIVEC system. The engine has a timing chain drive and runs on gasoline. It allows the car to accelerate to 100 km / h in 11.4 seconds. The maximum speed is 183 km / h. Fuel consumption is equal to 6.1 liters. The car has front wheel drive. The steering wheel is equipped with an electric power steering, and the steering column is adjustable in height and reach.
The car has a large set of security systems. ABS, ASTC, EBD and Brake Assist are installed here. The cabin has front airbags for passengers and the driver, as well as ISO-FIX mounts. The RISE body with additional bars in the doors provides good additional protection.
The interior of the car is trimmed with fabric. The rear seats fold down to create more space for carrying luggage. The car has 4 speakers, a 12V socket, 16-inch wheels and a spare tire.
1.6 Invite 2WD MT S32
This set has the same characteristics as the previous one. It is also equipped with a mechanical transmission and front-wheel drive. The ground clearance of this version of the car is 195mm.
The main difference of this modification is the equipment. The Mitsubishi ASX Invite has heated front seats, a luggage cover, an AM/FM tuner and a few other extras. The car is also equipped with air conditioning.
1.6 Intense 2WD MT S32
The car in this modification is equipped with roof rails and fog lights. The salon also has several differences. The steering wheel (as well as the gear lever) is trimmed with leather, there are audio control buttons on it, and on the instrument panel there is a color information display, where basic data about the operation of the car is transmitted.
2.0 Intense 4WD CVT S12
This equipment has a 4-cylinder unit with a volume of 2 liters and a power of 150 hp. It works in tandem with a continuously variable transmission (accordingly, the price of the car is slightly higher). Thanks to this combination, the maximum speed is increased to 191 km / h (acceleration to 100 km / h requires 11.7 seconds). In mixed mode, 7.7 liters of fuel are required per 100 km.
Another difference between the Intense version is the presence of all-wheel drive (All-Wheel Control system). Equipment also includes ASTC and HSA systems, side airbags and curtain airbags. The car is equipped with R17 alloy wheels and a full-size spare tire. And the driver's seat is equipped with a knee airbag.
2.0 Instyle 4WD CVT S06
This equipment also has a 2-liter engine with all-wheel drive and is equipped with a full range of security systems. Direction indicators are built into the rear-view mirrors. The mirrors themselves fold (they are equipped with an electric drive), and the rear windows are tinted.
The car has gear switches under the steering wheel and cruise control (it is also controlled by the steering wheel). The interior of the car is completely trimmed with leather, and the driver's seat has an electric drive. For passengers in the rear seat there is an armrest with space for cup holders.
One of the main features of the configuration is the Keyless Operation System engine start system. The car is equipped with a rear camera, light and rain sensors. Unlike previous versions, air conditioning is not available here - full climate control is installed instead. The cost of Mitsubishi ASX in this modification is the highest.
Inside, the 2018 Mitsubishi ASX features an improved multimedia system with a 7-inch display and compatibility with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, as well as a newly shaped floor console. The initial equipment Inform, with front-wheel drive and a 1.6-liter engine on the "mechanics", offers body-colored door handles, 16" steel wheels, audio preparation with 4 speakers, air conditioning. Invite equipment will offer heated front seats, AM / FM radio and CD / MP3, a curtain in the trunk. The next level of Intense performance is distinguished by fog lights, alloy wheels, a multifunction steering wheel with audio control and leather trim, a color information display on the dashboard. More expensive equipment already provides for the presence of a 2.0 engine, a CVT and an all-wheel drive system. The Intense 4WD version has an additional safety package, 17" wheels, and the maximum Instyle 4WD package is distinguished by chrome-plated exterior door handles, folding mirrors with built-in repeaters, LED daytime running lights, tinted windows. This version also features paddle shifters, steering wheel cruise control, keyless entry, combination trim, power driver's seat, 6 speakers and climate control.
In the Mitsubishi ASX engine line for the Russian buyer, there are two options to choose from: 1.6-liter and 2.0-liter gasoline engines. Both are equipped with the MIVEC electronic valve timing system, which manages the filling of the combustion chambers with the fuel-air mixture, providing economy at low engine speeds, maximum torque at medium and maximum power at high engine speeds. The power of the 1.6-liter engine is 117 hp. (154 Nm). In combination with a 5-speed “mechanics”, it accelerates the crossover from 0 to 100 km / h in 11.4 seconds. The maximum speed is 183 km/h. The average consumption is 6.1 l / 100 km. All the same figures for a 2.0-liter engine with a continuously variable transmission: 11.7 seconds, 191 km / h and 7.7 l / 100 km.
Mitsubishi ASX has a chassis with independent suspensions: front spring, MacPherson; rear spring, multi-link. Disc brakes are installed front and rear (front ventilated), and the steering is rack and pinion with electric power. The length / width / height of the crossover is 4295 x 1770 x 1615 mm. The wheelbase of 2670 mm provides a good supply of space in the cabin. The ground clearance of the car is not small - 195 mm. So even the front-wheel drive ASX will not give cause for concern when driving on a country road. Well, within reasonable limits - and on moderate off-road, but already with all-wheel drive, which in Mitsubishi ASX is implemented using an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch. With a key from the passenger compartment, you can select operating modes - front-wheel drive, all-wheel drive in automatic mode or with forced interaxle blocking. A roomy trunk leaves no doubt about the family orientation of the car - according to the VDA standard, its minimum volume is 442 liters and 1219 liters with the rear seats folded down.
The initial configuration of the Mitsubishi ASX 2018 with a 1.6-liter engine includes driver and passenger front airbags, Isofix mounts, a standard set of electronic systems (ABS, EBD, BAS). A completely different level is offered by a modification with a 2.0-liter engine: side airbags, curtain airbags, a knee airbag for the driver; ASTC complex (dynamic stability control and traction control), hill start assistant and light / rain sensors in the maximum configuration. In addition, the Touring Package includes Lane Keeping Assist, Automatic High Beam Assist and Accident Prevention.
Another upgrade allowed the Mitsubishi ASX to extend its life on the market - after all, it has been produced since 2010. The car has many positive aspects: a fairly practical and ergonomic interior, comfortable seats, a good supply of space in the back. The disadvantages include the lack of all-wheel drive with the base engine, as well as the presence of a CVT in an all-wheel drive modification, which makes the ASX more of a city car. This is also evidenced by a rigid suspension.
In New York, the Japanese brand Mitsubishi presented its updated Mitsubishi ASX 2017-2018 crossover in a new body (photos, equipment, specifications, prices, video and test drive). In the United States, this car is sold under the name Outlander Sport.
It should be noted that this model is no longer sold in the Russian Federation, however, it is expected that after the update, the company will restore the supply of the popular SUV.
It is assumed that the greatest demand for Mitsubishi ACX 2017-2018 will be recorded in the United States. Moreover, the prices for the novelty are low. For example, the basic equipment will cost from $20,000.

The engine line of the Japanese SUV has not changed much compared to the previous version. The power units are as follows:
- gasoline unit with four cylinders and a volume of 2.0 liters. Return - 148 horses;
- a 2.4-liter gasoline engine with a capacity of 168 horses.
The buyer can choose the transmission himself - a 5-speed manual or a continuously variable transmission. The ASX model will also be offered with front- or all-wheel drive.
Some critics suggest that if the novelty does arrive on the territory of the Russian Federation, then in this case it will be equipped with a 1.6-liter or 1.8-liter unit, but the gearboxes will be like those of the American counterpart.
Exterior Mitsubishi ACX 2017-2018 in a new body
The exterior of the crossover has not changed much. Critics noticed only slight changes, for example, the familiar X-shaped front part lost sharp corners and became a little softer, and a so-called “screed” with a chrome coating was installed between the headlights. Also, a different radiator grille catches the eye, which now looks more like small cells, and powerful fog lights are installed on it.
The back of the Japanese novelty is decorated with a large plastic bumper. It is massive and takes up most of the stern. The manufacturer also built fog LED lights into it. There is a chrome insert on the bottom of the bumper that goes well with the new exhaust pipe. The designers also installed updated taillights. They not only shine brighter, but also received original graphics that look so impressive in the dark.
The color scheme has practically remained the same, with the exception of one shade - Alloy Silver.
Interior Mitsubishi ASX 2017-2018 and equipment
There are no more changes in the interior of the car than in the exterior. Engineers installed a completely new multimedia complex with a 7-inch monitor in the cabin. It is equipped with a touchscreen, and also shows an excellent picture. The dashboard, as well as the tunnel between the front seats and the gear knob, received minor improvements.
In addition, new equipment was also installed on the model, which is now combined into a package called the Touring Package. It consists of:
- frontal collision warning systems;
- pedestrian tracking systems;
- traffic lane tracking systems;
- automatic light switching systems;
- improved sound insulation of the cabin;
- glazed roof.
Mitsubishi is resuming sales of the model after a nearly two-year hiatus. During this time, the model has experienced two: now it has an “x-face” in the spirit of the older Outlander model, modified bumpers and decor, and in the cabin - a new steering wheel and central tunnel casing (with soft lining), as well as improved sound insulation.
Two modifications with well-known power units began to be delivered to Russia. The first is equipped with a 1.6 engine (117 hp), a five-speed “mechanics” and front-wheel drive, and the second has a 2.0 engine (150 hp), a CVT and all-wheel drive. The old "intermediate" version with a 1.8 engine, CVT and front-wheel drive will no longer exist. Prices start from 1.1 million rubles, there are four configurations to choose from.

The basic version of Inform is quite simple: two airbags, ABS, air conditioning, power accessories, audio preparation and steel wheels. The Invite bundle is a little better: heated front seats, a CD player and a trunk curtain have been added (yes, it’s not “in the base”!).
Front-wheel drive Intense cars have a leather steering wheel, fog lights, roof rails and 16-inch alloy wheels. But all-wheel drive crossovers have their own, more attractive Intense equipment: seven airbags, ESP, hill start assist and 17-inch wheels.
The top version of Instyle includes seven airbags, leather upholstery, a power driver's seat, climate control, Bluetooth, light and rain sensors, a rearview camera, keyless entry, steering wheel buttons, cruise control and LED running lights. But a modern media system is not allowed for Russian buyers.
Prices for the larger Mitsubishi Outlander 2017 model year now start at 1 million 499 thousand rubles, that is, there is no intersection with the returned model. But compared to localized classmates, ASX is very expensive: for example, Hyundai Creta now costs from 800 thousand to 1 million 355 thousand rubles, and Renault Kaptur - from 879 thousand to 1 million 273 thousand rubles. However, the elderly ASX can attract buyers with a reliable image of the Mitsubishi brand and Japanese assembly.
The restart of sales will begin in the Far East: the cars will arrive at local dealers in mid-August. And from mid-September, ASX will be available in all other regions. Any expansion of the model range is important for the Russian division of Mitsubishi, because until now it had only four models: Outlander, Pajero, Pajero Sport and L200. In previous years, ASX found 20-25 thousand buyers in Russia annually, but now you can not count on such indicators.
