The world premiere of the Infiniti Q50 sedan took place in January 2013 at the Detroit Auto Show. In the third quarter of the same year, the model debuted in the North American market, and in the fourth quarter, it appeared at European dealers of the brand.
In Russia, the Infiniti Ku 50 has been on sale since April 2014. In our country, the four-door is in fairly good demand, yielding in sales only to the premium sedans of the big German three.
Exterior
The new 2017-2018 Infiniti Q50 model pleases the eye with an athletic and toned build. The sedan has a long hood with a rearward-shifted interior, rather muscular sidewalls and dashing curves of the chrome trim on the rear windows. This exterior design provides excellent aerodynamic performance and will surely appeal to the younger generation of drivers.
The car looks best at night. This is facilitated by rows of diodes and headlight lenses that create a truly stern look. Unfortunately, the corresponding optics are offered only in the Elegance + Navi and older trim levels, which are noticeably more expensive than the basic versions of the model.
It is also worth noting separately the Sport version, in which the Infiniti Q50 has a different front bumper with enlarged air intakes and other sills. In this configuration, the four-door looks even more menacing.
The sedan comes with 17-inch wheels in the base, but more expensive trim levels already rely on 18- and 19-inch alloy wheels with run flat tires.
As for the color palette for the Q50, it is represented by a fairly large number of different shades, and in warm colors the car looks out of class playfully, but cold colors, on the contrary, make the four-door more representative.

In the basic configuration, the Infiniti Q50 2017 interior is trimmed with fabric, and leather becomes available with the Elegance version. Plastic almost everywhere is soft and pleasant to the touch.
In general, the Japanese paid great attention to interior decoration. So, there are neat steel “crowns” on the buttons of the power windows, and pieces of leather are glued on the metal gearshift paddles of the automatic transmission.
As for the interior design as a whole, it is formed around the driver, who immediately has two large touch screens on the center console. The upper one is reserved for navigation and the on-board computer, and the lower one is considered the head one. It controls most of the functions.
Using these touchscreens, the driver can access social networks, set up music or display several different fuel consumption graphs at once. In general, the functionality is very extensive.
If the driver of the Infiniti Q50 feels almost like an airplane pilot, surrounded by numerous controls, then the space in front of the front passenger is clearly empty. Such a contrast immediately catches the eye unpleasantly.
The power front sports seats are very comfortable and can be quickly adjusted to suit you. Unfortunately, they become available only in more expensive trim levels, but in the basic versions, the sedan comes with standard seats, which have a certain lack of lateral support.
Landing on the back row is not the most comfortable, because due to the limited space between the sofa cushion and the front seat, passengers have to twist their feet unnaturally to get into the cabin.
Sitting in the back is quite comfortable, but despite the presence of three headrests, the sofa is still designed for only two people. For second-row passengers, a central armrest with a pair of cup holders, an ashtray and air intake deflectors are available. At the same time, you will not find a 12 V socket and a USB connector here.
Noise isolation in the 2018 Inifiniti Q50 is not bad, but the noise from the studded tires indicates that the soundproofing materials in the front arches could be better.
Characteristics
The overall length of the Infiniti Ku 50 is 4,783 mm, while the four-door wheelbase is 2,850 mm. The width and height of the sedan reaches 1,824 and 1,443 mm, respectively. Depending on the selected version, the curb weight of the model varies from 1,643 to 1,801 kg.
Front and rear ventilated disc brakes are responsible for braking. As for the suspension, the car is equipped with an independent multi-link suspension. The sedan has a fairly roomy trunk. The volume of the latter here is exactly 500 liters, however, various nooks and crannies can interfere with a full load.
Note that in the initial configurations of the Infiniti Q50, the back of the rear sofa folding in the ratio of 2/3 is not provided. It becomes available only with the Premium version. As for the spare wheel, none of the versions have it.
Initially, the car was called the Infiniti G20 P10 and was produced from 1990 to 1996. The second generation of the sedan was marked Infiniti G20 P11 and was produced from 1996 to 2002. The third generation of the model had a rear-wheel drive platform, and was produced from the assembly line under the index 35 until 2007.
The fourth generation of the luxury sedan began to be officially sold in Russia under the name Infiniti G37, the model lasted until 2013. In the same year, the company changed the name of many of its models, the sedan was named Infiniti Q50. In March 2017, the company introduced the new 2018 Infiniti Q50.
Exterior
There were no global changes in the appearance, only some elements of the car's plumage were adjusted. A large-mesh false radiator grille, with a company nameplate in the center, is trimmed around the perimeter with a chrome edging. Contrary to modern trends, the narrow lower air intake is separated from the grille by a license plate shelf.
In the deep wells of the huge bumper are spot fog lights and a little higher than their narrow ribbons of LED running lights. Volumetric headlights of complex configuration have LED content. The figured hood, hanging over the edges of the front fenders, narrows to the grille and is cut off by its frame. A slightly protruding narrow apron, painted in black, gives the front of the car a semantic completeness.
The sloping A-pillars flow gracefully into the car's sloping roof, sloping at the rear, and then smoothly into a small trunk lid. The complex shape of the side glazing is enclosed in a chrome edging around the entire perimeter. The high window line is favorably emphasized by the stamping rib running along the entire length of the car, making a kind of zigzag in the middle of the rear door. Side mirrors, contrary to trends, are fixed in the front window openings. The doors of the new 2018 Infiniti Q50 are decorated with a large stamping at the bottom.
In neat, almost sheer wheel arches, there are 18-inch wheels on cast exclusive wheels. The stern of the novelty looks no less presentable than the front of the car. Interior
The change in the interior of the presented novelty is quite a bit. The highest quality materials used for finishing, all leather trim is trimmed with neat red stitching. The front panel of a very complex configuration is rounded at the edges. The visor covering the instrument panel has a large recess in the middle, creating original hemispheres above the main instruments. The dashboard itself can be divided into three zones, with analog instruments at the edges, and an on-board computer display in the middle. On the protruding front console, there are two color touch screens of the entertainment complex.
Themselves 8 and 7-inch screens are clamped along the edges of the original form of deflectors and two rows of control buttons. From below, the monitors are pressed by the control panel of the air conditioner control panel.
The center console is a continuation of the front, it houses the transmission shift lever, driving style control, parking brake button and two cooled cup holders. The photo of the 2018 Infiniti Q50 shows that the size of the car allows you to install a wide armrest, which will freely accommodate the hands of the driver and front passenger for rest. The front seats are very comfortable, have a large number of adjustments and memory for the selected positions. Rear passengers will also be comfortable, but only two. For convenience, 6 driving options are offered, the choice of mode affects not only the operation of the engine and transmission, but also adjusts the suspension settings and braking efficiency. The semi-automatic motion control system will avoid a collision regardless of the driver's condition.
It should be noted right away that motorists should not expect global changes in the appearance and interior design of the Infiniti Q50 2017-2018 model year, which has survived the planned restyling. But in technology they simply do not exist (because the model underwent a technical update not so long ago, in December 2015). In the process of improvement, the Japanese sedan has acquired a slightly corrected exterior design of the body and a modernized interior. AND! the first in the Infiniti line to get hold of the advanced ProPILOT semi-autonomous driving system, with a story about which we will begin our review.
The Infiniti Q50 sedan, unlike the Nissan Serena minivan and the restyled version of the compact crossover, also presented at the Geneva International Motor Show 2017, received a more sophisticated ProPILOT Assist system integrated into the 2nd generation DAS system and wired control. The advanced semi-automatic driving system is not able to fully take on the functions of autonomous driving, but in emergency cases it will intervene in the actions of the driver and help avoid collisions with neighboring cars in the stream.
The ProPILOT Assist complex includes electronic systems and assistants Direct Adaptive Steering, Active Lane Control, Intelligent Cruise Control, Distance Control Assist, Backup Collision Intervention and Blind Spot Warning and Intervention, Lane Departure Warning and Prevention, Forward Emergency Braking and Predictive Forward Collision Warning. So the presence of such a set of modern electronics minimizes the threat of an accident.
Communication adaptive steering Direct Adaptive Steering system with electronic security systems is carried out by wire, which allows you to adjust the trajectory of movement with lightning speed. The driver can choose from as many as 6 steering settings - Personal, Standard, Snow, Eco, Sport and Sport +, allowing you to choose the best option for different driving modes using the Drive Mode system. The Drive Mode Selector toggle switch is also responsible for changing the characteristics of the engine, gearbox and Dynamic Digital Suspension (dynamic suspension with adaptive dampers). Complementing such an advanced arsenal is rear-wheel drive and the optional Intelligent All-Wheel Drive all-wheel drive system.
Of the new details that adorn the appearance of the sedan after restyling, I would like to note LED headlights and taillights with LED volumetric graphics, more expressive upgraded bumpers with bright aerodynamic elements.
The Sport and Red Sport 400 versions (pictured) look the most aggressive, of course, sporting black mirror caps, a front bumper splitter and a rear bumper diffuser painted black.
Innovations in the interior of the updated sedan Infiniti Ku50 at least. Starting with the Q50, Infiniti is implementing a new internal classification of its models. In addition to the general belonging to a particular class, within the model will also be divided depending on their characteristics. So the Q50, Q50 Sport and especially the Q50 Red Sport 400 will be noticeably different both externally and internally.
This deeply differentiated approach will allow Infiniti designers to further customize the model to meet specific customer requirements. This technique is far from new and is successfully used by the "Big German Three" to distinguish high-performance representatives from the general model range.
All versions of the Infiniti Q50 get a new two-piece grille that is designed to create a strong first impression of the model's sporty nature.
The 3D textural quality of the grille has been improved with more detail on the surface of the wavy mesh and a chrome surround surround. The side elevations of the grille are continued, smoothly transitioning to the hood in the form of clearly defined ribs.
Designers have noticeably changed the shape of the front optics and rear lights, similar to other new models. The front LED optics received proprietary forms, which Infiniti itself calls the “Human Eye” (human eye). The taillights have inherited the solution used on the Q60 sports coupe. In addition, the S version is now more different from the base version: it has a more aggressive bumper design with larger air intakes.
I was looking for changes in the cabin, comparing it with a photograph of the previous model: here is a different steering wheel and an “automatic” selector, an additional stitching appeared on the front panel. The company also claims that they have improved the quality of finishing materials. And yet it won't be enough. The Genevan public also decided so, and immediately after the press conference, the Infiniti booth was half empty.
But the main new thing is hidden from view: the restyled Q50 became the first model of the brand with the ProPilot system, which is the beginnings of an autopilot. It debuted last year on a minivan for the Japanese market: the electronics can only drive the car on the highway, activates at speeds over 70 km / h and allows it to move only within one lane. Moreover, integrating ProPilot into the Q50 turned out to be even easier than into the Serena, because the sedan is initially equipped with steering that works “by wire”, without a hard connection between the steering wheel and the wheels. Subsequently, ProPilot will appear on all Infiniti vehicles.
The power units are the same, although the top version with a V6 3.0 biturbo engine (400 hp), on which we already, appeared in Europe only now, simultaneously with restyling. Also, for different markets, a 2.0 turbo four (208 hp), a 2.1 diesel (168 hp) and a hybrid installation, including aspirated V6 3.5 and an electric motor (total power - 360 hp), are offered.
Sales of updated sedans will begin in the second quarter of this year, and the company promises that the cars will appear almost simultaneously in all world markets.
