During the restyling of 2000, the line of engines was replenished with a 6G72 gasoline unit with six cylinders with a total volume of 3.0 liters. Equipped with a direct injection system and a 16-valve DOHC timing belt, this engine could develop about 170 hp. power and produce 255 Nm of torque. Both a 5-speed "mechanics" and a 4-speed "automatic" were offered as a gearbox for a gasoline engine. In terms of dynamics, the gasoline versions of the first generation Pajero Sport were much faster, accelerating to the first hundred on the speedometer in just 12.8 seconds and providing a top speed of 175 km / h.
Pajero Sport I is a frame car with a well-thought-out off-road suspension, complemented by an Easy Select 4WD all-wheel drive system. Before the restyling of 2000, the developers used springs in the design of the rear suspension, but then they replaced them with springs more suitable for a modern car. An independent torsion bar suspension was used at the front. Ventilated disc brakes were installed on the front axle, but at the rear, preference was given to “just disc brakes”.
In different markets, the first generation Pajero Sport was sold under different names. In Japan, the crossover was called the Mitsubishi Challenger, in the USA they “preferred to be called” the Mitsubishi Montero Sport, the car was also known under the names Mitsubishi Nativa and Mitsubishi Shogun Sport, but in Russia it was the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport that was used. The first generation was produced until 2008 and was implemented quite successfully in our country.
