Friends offered to take their VAZ-21011 with a 1.3-liter engine as a test subject. There is a car, now you need equipment. I found it at one of the metropolitan car markets. The $250 kit included a Lovato Aspirato vacuum reducer (according to experts, it runs 150-180 thousand km, and a repair kit costs $15-20), a 50-liter cylindrical cylinder with a Tomasetto multivalve, cylinder clamps, a mixer (popularly - mixer), filling valve, gas supply tee to the carburetor, gas valve, gasoline valve, pipelines for liquefied gas, for gas in the vapor fraction (diameter 19 mm), for gasoline, for antifreeze water (diameter 19 mm), two tees for connections to the cooling system, clamps for clamping pipelines, a corrugated sleeve and plastic flanges for pipelines coming from the multivalve under the bottom of the car, as well as a HBO control panel. Only special pipelines should be installed, otherwise you can get gas and antifreeze leaks. Since there are no guarantees on the market, it is better to take Lovato or Tomasetto nodes - they are very reliable.

We entrusted the adjustment to specialists, who then issued us documents for the registration of HBO in the data sheet. It took a whole day to install the HBO. Filling outlet

  1. Install supply piping. This process is more convenient to perform when the car is on a lift, since the supply line will be located under the bottom. In this case, it is necessary to ensure that the pipes are laid along the side members and away from the moving elements of the suspension system.
  2. Install the gas valve under the hood, first making sure the quality of its filter.
  3. Choose the right place to install the gas reducer. To provide the gearbox heating system with an optimal supply of antifreeze, it is necessary to place it just above the engine cylinder head.
  4. Install the gas reducer.
  5. Next, you need to embed two tees into the hoses going to the heater radiator. To do this, drain the antifreeze from the cooling system, put hoses of the appropriate diameter on the tees and lead them to the gearbox, where they should be connected to the heating system. After that, you can back fill the entire system with antifreeze and you should definitely make sure that there are no leaks.

    If necessary, leaking places will have to be sealed.

  6. Connect the gas valve and reducer with a high-pressure line.
  7. A gas aerator should be installed in the car's air filter.

    It is worth noting that the mixing gasket on the carburetor is not suitable in the case of the VAZ 2109.

  8. The installed aerator must be connected to the reducer outlet with a suitable rubber hose resistant to liquids such as gasoline and oil.
  9. This hose should be cut in any convenient place and inserted into the resulting cut of the dispenser valve. To pre-set the system, the valve must first be completely unscrewed and screwed back by about a third.
  10. Cut the gas line in the section from the carburetor to the gas pump and install a special valve there, which then needs to be switched to manual control and set to the closed position.
  11. Install a rocker switch in any free place on the instrument panel. It must be in a neutral position.

  12. Only through the fuse, one end of the 15 A wire must be connected to the central contact of the switch, and the other must be brought to the ignition switch and soldered to terminal 15 (the blue wire can be with or without a black stripe).
  13. One wire should be connected to the remaining two contacts, which then need to be brought to the engine compartment, where they should be connected, respectively, to the gas and gasoline valves.
  14. The free contacts of the gas and petrol valves must be connected to ground.

    For this, absolutely any place is suitable.

  15. You should turn on the ignition and check if the valves responsible for the supply of gas and gasoline are working. Checking is done by changing the positions of the rocker switch. In the neutral position, both valves should be off.
  16. If the cylinder is empty, you will need to open the filling valve, fill in about 10 liters of gas and close it.

  17. Open the flow valve and check the tightness of the connections of the high-pressure fittings using an ordinary soapy solution. Tighten the connecting fittings if necessary. If this does not give any result, that is, the gas leak does not stop, you need to close the flow valve, release the gas from the pipeline and seal the connections using the FUM tape.
  18. Start the car on gasoline - move the rocker switch to the appropriate position and manually prime the fuel.
  19. After warming up the VAZ 2109, open the gas cylinder supply valve, move the rocker switch to the neutral position and work out the gasoline contained in the carburetor float chamber. "Nine" itself should stall.
  20. Move the rocker switch to the "gas" position, and then check the operation of the car. If necessary, adjustment is made by means of a dispenser.

Under the action of vacuum in the intake manifold, gas from the gearbox through the dispenser enters the carburetor. The only difference is in the gas dispenser.

In the first generation, the gas dispenser is manual, it is set to the desired position once and practically does not require adjustment. And the second generation has an electronic dispenser, with a valve that interacts with the engine depending on the readings of the oxygen sensor and the position of the throttle valve of the carburetor.

Cylinders are produced in two types: cylindrical and toroidal (popularly known as tablets). For cars with a classic layout, a cylindrical cylinder is best, since such cars have a large capacity. The best option would be to install the tank in the trunk, where there is a lot of free space.

For hatchback vehicles, the trunk is located in the passenger compartment. Therefore, installing a cylindrical cylinder will not be the best option, it will take up a lot of space. Basically, such cars have a niche for a spare wheel. It is there that the balloon should be placed, but not cylindrical, but toroidal (tablet).

The balloon must be securely fastened. Otherwise, when moving, it will ride, and may damage the parts that are located on it. This can be done using a special stand and bolted metal strips.


After the cylinder is installed, it is necessary to remove the filling valve. Basically, the valve is mounted just below the rear bumper, securing it to the mounting plate. You can also remove the valve on one of the rear fenders. But for this you will have to drill a hole with the desired diameter in the place you need.

Installation of a mixer and HBO valves

Now it's time to look under the hood of the car and determine the place for the rest of the HBO parts.

Mixer installation

Let's start with the mixer. In carbureted engines, the mixer is a spacer between the carburetor and the intake manifold.

Gaskets must be present between the three elements: manifold, mixer and carburetor, or sealant can be used. The main thing is that during the operation of these elements, there is no air leakage between them.

Install the fuel valve. It must be installed on the side where the fuel line is connected to the fuel pump. The valve must be installed in the pipeline. We cut the pipeline and install the valve in the cut, then “hard-wired” clamp it with clamps.

It should be noted that the valve is not located in front of the fuel pump, but in the fuel line going from the fuel pump to the carburetor. Otherwise, when shutting off and supplying gasoline, the gasoline pump will not be able to supply gasoline to the carburetor.

And the last one will be the gas valve. If possible, it is better to install it away from the gasoline valve. A large distance between them will provide you with complete safety in the event of an accident. It must be fixed in an accessible place so that, if possible, it would be easy to get to it.

A gas pipeline is carried out to the gas valve, which was previously laid from the cylinder to the engine compartment.

Mounting the reducer, dispenser and control panel

The next step is to install the gas reducer. It is best to install it near the carburetor. The gas reducer should be installed vertically, since in a different position its diaphragm will not be able to fully provide gas supply. The best option would be to connect the reducer to the pipes that go to the stove.

To do this, you will need to crash into the inlet and outlet pipes of the stove using two tees. Moreover, the serial connection of the reducer to one of the pipes can disrupt the operation of the system under certain conditions, so the inlet pipe of the reducer cuts into the inlet pipe of the stove, and the outlet pipe into the outlet pipe.
