Engineering equipment of the Soviet (Russian) Army. Engineering equipment of the Soviet army Floating conveyor PTS propeller

PTS is a family of domestic tracked amphibious transporters designed to cross water barriers of various non-amphibious military and transport equipment.

During the Great Patriotic War, the Red Army experienced an acute shortage of crossing facilities, especially self-propelled ones. Lend-lease deliveries of floating Ford GPA and GMC DUKW vehicles were able to satisfy only a small need for troops in this type of equipment. Therefore, immediately after the end of the war, large-scale work began on the creation of various models of amphibious vehicles.

FIRST SAMPLE

One of these vehicles was the K-61 floating tracked transporter, developed in 1948 at the Design Bureau of Engineering Troops using components and assemblies of the M-2 artillery tractor. Serial production of the K-61 conveyor from 1950 to 1958 was carried out at the Kryukov Carriage Works, and from 1958 to 1965 at the Stroymashina plant in Izhevsk. The floating conveyor had a waterproof, all-metal carrier type hull. For loading and unloading transported equipment, the conveyor had a lifting winch located in the forward compartment of the vehicle, and a folding tailgate with entry ramps. Diesel YaAZ-204V with a capacity of 130 liters. With. was located in the middle part of the hull, which provided the car with acceptable trims when moving afloat with and without cargo.

In one flight, the K-61 transporter could transport (options): eight wounded on stretchers, 40 soldiers with full weapons, GAZ-51, GAZ-63, ZIS-5 - ZIS-150, GAZ-69 vehicles with a load of up to 5 tons, ZIS-151 (without load), ZIL-157 (without load), a cannon with a caliber of up to 100 mm with a crew, a howitzer with a caliber of 122-152 mm with a crew, a mortar with a caliber of 160 mm with a crew. The water propulsion of the machine was two propellers located in tunnels in the bottom of the hull.

TRANSPORTER PTS

In 1961, at the Kryukov Carriage Works, under the leadership of E. E. Lenzius, on the basis of the units of the ATS-59 artillery tractor and the T-54 tank, the PTS transporter (medium floating transporter) was developed. Its layout was similar to the layout of the K-61 conveyor, but unlike the last PTS, it had higher characteristics in terms of carrying capacity, mobility, etc. The PTS had a pressurized cabin equipped with a filter-ventilation unit (FVU).

In one flight, the transporter could transport (options): two 85-mm cannons with crews, guns and howitzers of caliber from 122 to 152 mm, one with crews, 12 wounded on stretchers, 72 soldiers with full armament, two vehicles of the UAZ-469 type, cars from UAZ-452 to Ural-4320 (without load). For the simultaneous crossing of the artillery system and the tractor, the PKP wheeled floating trailer was included in the vehicle kit. In this case, the artillery system was transported on a trailer, and the tractor in the conveyor.

The modernized model PTS-M was equipped with a diesel cabin and body heater, which increased the vehicle's capabilities during operations in winter conditions, and excluded the possibility of ice freezing on the sides of the vehicle. A set of marine equipment appeared to work with waves up to three points, a radio station, night vision devices, etc.

FROM PTS-2 TO PTS-4

In 1973, the PTS-2 floating transporter was developed at the Voroshilovograd Diesel Locomotive Plant. During its creation, components and assemblies of the T-64 tank were used. A more powerful V-46-5 multi-fuel engine with a capacity of 710 hp was installed on the car. c, self-digging device, equipment for operation in marine conditions, ramps in the aft part of the hull and a reversible winch. The conveyor cabin is armored, sealed, equipped with FVU and protection against radioactive substances. The cockpit houses a radio station and a radiometer. A machine-gun turret is installed above the hatch of the commander of the vehicle.

An improved sample of the PTS-3, developed at the same enterprise as the PTS-2, remained experimental. The carrying capacity of the vehicle when driving on water was increased from 12 to 16 tons, and the speed from 12 to 15 km/h. On the roof of the armored cabin was placed a rotating turret with a PKT machine gun. The base of the machine was the components and assemblies of the T-64 tank.

Since after the collapse of the USSR, the production facilities for the manufacture of floating conveyors remained in Ukraine (in Lugansk), the question arose of creating a new model of this equipment at Russian enterprises. In a short time, the Design Bureau of Transport Engineering (KBTM) in Omsk developed a new floating transporter PTS-4 using components and assemblies of the T-72 and T-80 tanks. In 2014, the company was renamed Omsk Transport Engineering Plant OJSC. For the first time, this machine was shown to the public at an exhibition of weapons and military equipment in Omsk in 2007. In 2011, the floating tracked carrier successfully passed state tests. The vehicle has been accepted for supply to the Russian armed forces and is mass-produced in Omsk.

DESCRIPTION OF FLOATING TRANSPORTER PTS-4

The floating transporter is designed to transport personnel, artillery systems, wheeled and tracked vehicles, as well as other cargo through water and shaky soil.

In addition, Omsktransmash is developing a civilian version of the PTS-4, which will be able to transport people and cargo in places of natural disasters or serve as a ferry in the absence of bridges.

DESIGN FEATURES

The caterpillar amphibious transporter PTS-4 consists of a waterproof hull with a crew cabin and a cargo compartment, which has a folding tailgate.

V-84 engine with a capacity of 840 liters. With. located approximately in the central part of the conveyor hull, which increases its stability afloat and the reliability of the transmission of torque to the water and caterpillar propellers, as well as to the winches. On the PTS-4, the developers abandoned the location of the propellers in the tunnels and installed them in special guide nozzles that were installed behind the rear of the vehicle. At the same time, a double water steering wheel appeared behind each of the screws. Thanks to the presence of these design solutions, it was possible to increase the maneuverability and controllability of the PTS-4 afloat, especially when the conveyor moves along curved trajectories. When turning afloat using rudders, the PTS-4 circulation radius is approximately 80 m, and when turning in the propeller mode in counter-rotation, approximately 20 m. While the tracked conveyor is moving on land, the propellers rise and are pressed against the tailgate . When lowering and raising the tailgate, the propulsion-steering complex moves along with the side.

The floating transporter PTS-4 has an armored cockpit, which is equipped with a FVU. Also, the machine has a device for self-digging. Technically, it is possible to install hinged shielding of the undercarriage on the conveyor. In the cockpit there are communications equipment, as well as equipment that allows you to drive the car at night and in poor visibility.

The design of the PTS-4 chassis uses elements of mass-produced main battle tanks: T-80 tracks and torsion bars, T-72 gearbox and clutches. As weapons, a remote-controlled heavy-caliber 12.7-mm machine gun with 400 rounds of ammunition is used.

TRANSPORTATION CAPABILITIES

The floating conveyor is unloaded and loaded on land through the folded tailgate, which is equipped with ramps. Technique comes on board under its own power. Non-self-propelled military equipment is moved using a special mechanical winch, which is located in front of the transporter's cargo platform. This winch can also be used for self-pulling PTS-4 in a situation where the coastal terrain does not allow the conveyor to go ashore (in this case, unloading the machine is much more complicated and the time required for this operation increases). It is possible to simultaneously ferry the tractor and the artillery system towed by it, which in this case is loaded onto a floating wheeled trailer, which is included in the PTS-4 kit. At the same time, maneuverability and movement speed decrease significantly (by almost 30%).

The floating transporter PTS-4 can not only transport military equipment, personnel and various cargoes through water barriers, but also transport them in swampy or rough terrain, which makes the vehicle quite versatile. True, this significantly reduces the carrying capacity of the caterpillar conveyor. Also, the caterpillar conveyor can be used in amphibious assaults. For this purpose, additional equipment is specially installed on it: two pumps designed to pump out water with a capacity of 800 and 400 l / min., special glazing protection, a sealed awning, exhaust extensions and a gyro-semi-compass.

ENGINEERING SOLUTIONS

In the process of creating the PTS-4, a large amount of R&D was carried out, which included the search for the most rational and effective technical solutions, as well as their subsequent processing and testing. In particular, the issues of the size and shape of displacement hulls were worked out, various types of propulsors, afloat conveyor control systems, sump pumps, and the like were sorted out. Significant attention was paid to the developers to improve the cross-country ability of the new caterpillar conveyor, especially at the stage of entering the car into the water and leaving the water on land. The roll angle was increased to 25°, and the climb/descent angle to 32°.

PTS 2 is a medium floating transporter, which is a specialized technique designed to transport cars, armored vehicles, tracked and wheeled tractors, cargo and personnel of army units through various water barriers. It is distinguished by a large margin of buoyancy, cross-country ability and maneuverability. It was developed in 1973 on the basis of the units of the T-64 tank and was produced by the Voroshilovgrad diesel locomotive plant VZOR.

Technical characteristics of the conveyor floating PTS 2

On land, the PTS-2 moves confidently on a caterpillar track that is standard for heavy equipment of this class. It is equipped with a V-46-5 diesel engine with a capacity of 710 l / s, has an individual torsion bar suspension, and is capable of accelerating up to 60 km / h on the highway. The capacity of its tanks is 1090 liters, and the cruising range on the highway is 500 kilometers.

The movement of this conveyor through the water is provided by two propellers, which have the function of working together with the scrolling of the tracks. The maximum speed of the PTS-2 when crossing water obstacles by swimming is 11.7 km/h. Overall dimensions of the conveyor:

  • Length - 11990 millimeters.
  • Width - 3300 millimeters.
  • Clearance - 400 millimeters.

The mass of the floating conveyor is 24200 kilograms. For loading various equipment, its tailgate is made opening, it is equipped with a winch driven by the main power unit. The carrying capacity of PTS-2 both on land and on water is 12 tons, in front of it there is a three-seat control cabin equipped with a heater and an air blower.

Floating transporter PTS 2: use cases

In the company "Perspektiva" PTS 2 can be bought inexpensively. This technique is now successfully used both in the armed forces, but also “in civilian life”, for transporting people, various goods and cargo to those areas where ordinary trucks simply cannot go due to the presence of water barriers and the absence of bridges. The price for PTS 2 is low, this conveyor is distinguished by the fact that it is very reliable, easy to maintain, and operation usually does not cause any problems.

Literature

Floating conveyor PTS-2

The PTS-2 floating conveyor (medium floating conveyor) is used to cross significant water barriers (rivers, lakes, sea bays and estuaries) of personnel of the armed forces, wheeled vehicles, artillery pieces and other materiel. PTS-2 was developed at the Lugansk Diesel Locomotive Plant on the basis of some units of the T-64 tank.

The conveyor cabin is armored, sealed, equipped with a filter-ventilation unit and protection against radioactive substances. The cockpit houses a radio station and a radiometer. A machine-gun turret is installed above the hatch of the vehicle commander (in PTS-3 - a turret).

Capacity of the PTS-2 conveyor:
- 75 soldiers with full weapons and equipment;
- 2 guns of medium caliber (up to 85 mm) with crews;
- 1 large-caliber guns (up to 152 mm) with crew;
- 2 vehicles of the UAZ-3151 type;
- 1 truck (for example, ZIL-131 or Ural-4320) with cargo. The total weight must not exceed 12 tons;
- 12 wounded on stretchers;
The modification of the transporter, PTS-3, can also carry the BMP-1/2.
Conveyor weight: 24 t.
Machine dimensions: 12.5x3.3 m.
Maximum speed on land with/without load: 34/60 km/h.
Fuel range: on land - 500 km, on water - 18 hours.
Power reserve on water: 18 hours.
Fuel tank: 1090 liters.
Diesel engine power: 710 HP
PTS-2 can be transported by military transport aircraft.

The floating transporter PTS-2 can be used in the implementation of landing operations at sea and large lakes. In order to increase seaworthiness (wave up to 3 points), PTS-2 is equipped with sump pumps, exhaust extensions and a sealed awning. For navigation in large expanses of water, the machine is equipped with a gyro-semi-compass. On the water, the movement of the conveyor occurs with the help of two screws. The maximum speed on the water with / without cargo is 12/13 km / h (for comparison, the speed on the water of the BTR-82A is 8 km / h). For PTS-2, the maximum permissible speed of water flow in the river is 2.5 km/h.

The PTS-2 conveyor is also used for transporting goods over rough and swampy terrain (the machine has a very low specific pressure on the ground). The PTS-2 conveyor can also be used as an ambulance. For this, special brackets for 12 stretchers are installed in the body. A device for self-digging is installed at the stern of the conveyor, thanks to which it is possible to equip a shelter for the machine. In reality, self-digging is rarely used, since a huge amount of soil (120 cubic meters - the volume of only the machine itself, excluding the exit) is a difficult task for special equipment. An interesting fact is that the conveyor body is equipped with a powerful heater and, under certain conditions, can become a comfortable home. And in the presence of 12 medical stretchers (for which there are special attachments) - very comfortable.

PTSM is a floating caterpillar transporter designed to transport people and goods in the absence of roads, through water barriers and swamps. In practice, PTSM can carry about 8 tons of cargo by land, 10 tons by water. High sides and low specific pressure on the ground make it possible to transport large and oversized cargo, fuel containers, URAL and KAMAZ vehicles. Ease of execution allows the efficient use of all-terrain vehicles in harsh climatic conditions, in the absence of roads and bridges.
