The elegant “Infiniti” has more striking features that, despite the overall recognizability of the silhouette, clearly distinguish this model from the previous one. Undoubtedly, Russian fans of the brand will also jealously compare the exterior of the outgoing “FX” (which gained popularity with us long before it was sold by official dealers) and the new one. And of course, they will note the slightly changed proportions of the crossover. And of the more spectacular changes, out of competition are new headlights, shaped like either a carnival mask or elegant sunglasses. “Infiniti” once again proved that the best is the enemy of the good. The luxury crossover has become more perfect (something more, something less) literally in all respects. And, as always, the overall impression is played by small details. The new “FX” has a whole scattering of such curious little things. There are purely external ones - the same new headlights or wooden panels in the interior design, the total area of ​​\u200b\u200bwhich has increased by 200% compared to its predecessor. There are highlights that appear at some points. For example, a light greeting, when, as the owner approaches, the car turns on the exterior lighting (under the side mirrors), then the lights in the cabin, and when you are already driving, the engine start button starts to wink in the rhythm of the pulse. Finally, there are interesting things that are hidden from view. For example, it makes no sense to say that a luxury crossover is equipped with a "climate" with high-quality filtration and air ionization - this is akin to the message that the Japanese eat rice with chopsticks. Banality for a car of this class and this brand. As well as an electronic navigator (by the way, they promise a Russian version of navigation), good “music” or even a system of all-round visibility when parking. In general, nothing super-and even just amazing. The same or something similar can be seen on other prestigious Infiniti models. But (again, in general) all together creates an atmosphere of a car that is truly luxurious and without pretense of being friendly to its riders ...

Up to 100 km / h “FX50” accelerates (according to independent US sources) in 5.2 seconds. Fast for a car in this class. A second more - and that would be quite a worthy indicator. And the maximum speed, like many modern cars, is artificially limited by a “ceiling” of 250 km / h.

To the person behind the wheel, the designers of the new “FX” (however, this can be said about other new Infiniti models as well) showed maximum respect. True, he has two less adjustments at his disposal, so he can’t even turn the steering wheel. But in terms of smooth operation, this box, which is included in the standard equipment of the crossover, really looks like a continuously variable one. At the moment I am driving at an even, calm pace, a little over a “hundred”, without violating local restrictions. And soon I run into the stern of a huge pickup truck, the phlegmatic owner of which, it seems, has not been in a hurry for a long time. Lightly pressing the accelerator - and the pickup is rapidly melting in the rear-view mirror. At the same time, there is not even a hint of a hitch before the spurt. Firstly, the settings of the “machine” are focused on maintaining a high torque so that you can sharply increase speed at any moment. And secondly, as on all modern Infiniti models, the transmission has a function that smooths out jumps in engine speed when shifting to a lower gear. Simply put, it imitates gas recirculation, and does it at the level of an experienced driver.

If desired, the transmission can be switched manually - that is, paddle shifters. Made of magnesium alloy, by the way. Please compete with the “automatic” if you are confident in your skill. If you are not sure, then you better not: the automatic transmission here is one of those advanced boxes that can cause an inferiority complex in an inexperienced driver.

In principle, the car is rear-wheel drive - under normal driving conditions, up to 100% of traction goes to the rear axle. But from the place “FX” gets under way on all-wheel drive – for the sake of smoothness and stability of acceleration. And in the future, part of the power, if necessary, can be transmitted to the front wheels. On ice, snow, off-road, the system works like a bee, constantly redistributing traction to those wheels (or wheel) that have more reliable grip.

The most advanced in terms of driving performance is the “FX50 Sport” modification. This version is equipped with a Variable Suspension System (CDC) with special shock absorbers. Continuously receiving information from various sensors (specifically - speed, acceleration, steering angle, brakes, torque), electronics changes the stiffness of the shock absorbers, optimally adapting to road conditions. Moreover, the driver can choose between “comfort” mode and “sports”, in which the suspension becomes more “clamped”, which further improves handling.

Another interesting attribute of the “FX50 Sport” is the rear-active steering system (Rear-Active Steer) driven by an electric motor. It again receives data from several sensors and, according to the position of the front wheels, turns (by an angle of up to one degree) the rear wheels. At low speeds, this helps to improve handling (although without that, it would seem much better), and at high speeds, it makes the car more stable.

However, the usual “FX50” behaves quite commendably on the road even without these technical tweaks. So much so that sometimes it begins to seem that your help to the crossover is not so necessary - he himself would have calmly reached the end of the route. “Infiniti FX” is generally a smart car, like many of its modern counterparts. An experienced driver will be helped, an inexperienced one will be corrected if he makes a mistake. Of course, up to some limits, because no one has canceled the laws of physics. Another thing is that behind the wheel of "FX" these limits seem very far away. You pass, without slowing down, one sharp turn, another, a third - and then you remember that the car is “American”, and the number 60 on the speedometer does not mean “km / h”, but miles. And the full impression is that the crossover itself is also completely indifferent ...

What haven't you mentioned yet? Active cruise control (it works not only at high speeds, but also in a range of up to 25 mph, without exaggeration - even in a traffic jam, controlling the distance to the car in front) ... Warning system about a possible collision with the car in front (if you didn’t react to its beep, the electronics activate the brakes themselves to at least reduce the damage from the impact) ... The system for preventing unauthorized exit from the lane (if the “FX” runs into the dividing line with the turn signals off, the automation “taxis” it back in a row) ... Adaptive headlight system - depending on the speed of the car and the position of the steering wheel, it can turn the headlights at an angle of up to 17 degrees and automatically adjusts the level of the light beam ...

One thing about this car remained incomprehensible to me, but, to be honest, I was too shy to ask. The question is: why did the developers conjure over the settings of the exhaust system, achieving a “powerful sound” of the engine, if at the same time they increased sound insulation in every possible way, up to the maximum filling of body voids with special foam material? You can listen to the engine with taste, except perhaps standing next to the “FX”. And in the cabin - silence.

We connect the iPhone via Bluetooth, iPad via the USB port, excellent - the media library becomes available on both devices with all its 30 GB of music files, the devices are synchronized with the car's audio system - we check sound, adjust the frequency balance - the sound is perfect. At this point, the engine has warmed up slightly and the engine sound has ceased to exist. The fact that the car is running, you understand only by the tachometer needle, which shows 800 rpm. We smoothly pass through the gates of the site, the cameras on the back and sides show a picture and a 3D projection of the car. We immediately turn off the projection - it is about nothing, too small - it is inconvenient to navigate, we leave only the rear view and the right side on the screen - it is already better, the boundaries of the car are clearly visible - the function is normal, accepted for use.

Heading to the highway, passing speed bumps, analyzing the suspension feel - the new FX50S on a low profile, 21 rims and 265kPa tire pressure - was somewhat softer than the 2008 FX35. - Nice. The tire pressure indicator interface is much more convenient than in the 35, it shows in which particular wheel, what pressure, and not just a list without identifying the wheels, as in the FX35.

We leave on the highway - we accelerate smoothly, listen to the sensations, the car picks up speed, there is no rolling, the steering wheel is hard, the connection with the road is 100%. Speed ​​120 - noise from the wheels begins to be heard (as it was found out later, it strongly depends on the road surface and the degree of heating of the wheels and varies from unacceptably strong, for this class of car, to almost imperceptible. Recommendation - to put additional noise insulation in the wheel arches.

We look at the tachometer - revs are 2,500, we accelerate to 160 - revs are 2,800 - we begin to rejoice about the restrictions on running in with the so-called. speed: in the course of 200 km / h we can go at speeds up to 4,000 - life is getting better, the trip can develop :) Feelings from a speed of 160 ... - they are not there, why? Because there is no speed, well, more precisely for this car, this is not speed on a flat empty road (however, as it turns out later, both on uneven and not at all empty - this is also not speed for it and 200 km / h for it is also not speed, but more on that later...).

The temperature is still +3, rain, still concern about the rubber ... The rain sensor works perfectly, it determines the rhythm of the wipers, depending not only on the intensity of the rain, but also on the speed and even acceleration. Spraying liquid on glass is normal. As an additional equipment, liquid heating is installed, but the steam is not visible (as the dealer promised, but to go out and check if it works at all (well, like the temperature of the jet) - laziness, rain all the same.

We leave for the Moscow Ring Road, then for Volgogradka - let's go, the time is about 5.30 - at the entrance to Moscow - a traffic jam, 3 kilometers long !!! Moreover, no accidents, no narrowing - there is nothing - apparently, the standard situation on weekdays - they wished good luck to those traveling to Moscow and living in the area ..., they condoled ..., they were glad that there were few cars in our direction ...

We are driving ..., we begin to pass settlements - traffic lights and cars appear, we begin to maneuver in the “chess” mode, while we do not accelerate sharply and practically do not brake, without causing inconvenience to the flow - the car is rebuilt, as if it were on rails, there is no roll at all, the steering wheel is very informative, the feedback from the wheels is excellent - the auto control is 100%, the speed is really low ... We drive in the 80-140 km / h mode. It is felt that the potential of the engine is huge and if you need to dive into some hole - no problem, just add gas ...

After 10 minutes, we confirm ... A green light starts flashing ahead, laziness slows down, there are 4 more cars in front in our row, two in the right, I press the pedal at about 50% of the speed, there is still a car of space before the kickdown (I remember running in ...), the car, not uttering not a single sound, not making a single jerk, not shifting gears, in the state in which it was, it simply accelerates and goes forward, accelerating in this short stretch from 100 to 160 km / h, as if it was just taken and with a huge hand gently pushed forward. Two turns of the steering wheel - we go around these 6 cars in a checkerboard pattern and, at the green that has not yet finished flashing, we fly by a traffic light, the cars behind have disappeared ... We digest the sensations, look at each other, we understand that the trip promises to be interesting, even though in break mode...

Carried away by the sensations, we forgot that we are in Russia ... and that having sold you a car for 4.5 million rubles, and that is how much it cost, taking into account, in fact, its very cost, add. equipment for 350 and interior alterations for another 350 thousand rubles. You can’t fill a full tank of gasoline right in a car dealership. It is necessary to fill in just enough to leave the car dealership, and then the happy owner must frantically search for the nearest gas station and it’s not a fact that it will be BP or Lukoil. It can be anything, and you will get out of the car, get your hands dirty on the filling hose, which is always full of gasoline, and then with these hands you will take the steering wheel, sheathed in Alcantara and, remembering your favorite country in your native Tatar language, drive on.

Oh yes, of course, the reader can rightly note that for such cases you need to have rubber gloves and cash money (since, alas, they don’t accept cards at these gas stations either) and then there will be no problems. But it so happened that I did not take rubber gloves with me to a car dealership made of glass and steel, with windows 10 meters high and pretty girls at the entrance. Somehow, I don’t even know how it happened, but such a fuck up happened ... The road is of average quality by Moscow standards (but, as it turned out later, it was almost a high way to Penza), pronounced rutting, water in the rut, as it is raining, but Dunlop Sport swallows kilometers without noticing this (respect for rubber). We drive in the mode of 130-180 km / h, slowing down to 110 only in settlements. A speed of less than 160 seems to be a temporary stop, about 200 km were rewound from Moscow. It starts to get light, they remembered that sometimes you need to look into the side mirrors, well, at least for decency - they looked, the mirrors pleased us - large and wide, excellent visibility, quickly warm up and dry out. When reverse gear is engaged, the left mirror automatically goes down. Until I realized whether it is convenient or not ..., the sensations are twofold.

After a few kilometers, hello the first traffic police. They offer us an oncoming lane and speeding over 60 km / h. I agree with the proposal - the proposal is objective, I take out my wallet - I pay for the vigilance of the Police service :) $ 100 is still the police, and not just cops, thanks to the President ... :) if there is… I’m starting to think about the decision: “whether to lower the frame on the numbers”, but the remoteness from my native safe city is embarrassing, I decide to abandon this idea for the time being, we go further…

We notice the synchronous movement of the speedometer needles and the fuel level - when the speedometer needle moves to the right, the fuel arrow moves to the left ..., well, you can almost see how :) 2.5 times. I thought it was adaptive, i.e. takes into account the real speed of the car, but no - for all 2,000 km I have not learned how to correctly predict the route ... the Japanese ...

We start thinking about refueling - we understand that there are no problems with this on the highway: approximately every 50 km there is either Lukoil or Rosneft, and even with shops, not counting a bunch of gas stations like a column with the 76th ... We drove 350 km from Moscow, the fog cleared, the temperature rose to +7, concerns about summer tires passed. By the way, when we left Moscow, the pressure in the wheels was 265 kPa, the peak pressure at a speed of 240-260 km / h reached 310 kPa ... The gum was warming up :) rpm at 200 - strictly 4,000 - we fulfill the requirements of the dealer ...

When driving on Russian roads at such speeds, when you see a truck in front (especially uphill), you have to start braking another kilometer in order to do it smoothly, because if you drive 200, and he is 80, then this is tantamount to approaching a stationary object at a speed of 120 km/h, which is significant. While getting used to this feature, several times I had to slow down more sharply, but without the ABS triggering - take care of the brakes ..., after all, running in.

Looking ahead, I will share my impressions of the new Infiniti brakes. In principle, it seems that their resource is enough, they effectively upset the car at speeds up to 140 without bothering to press almost to the floor - the car stops in its tracks, there is no question of overheating. You can touch the brake disc with your finger (but if you pull it back quickly :)

Braking smoothly from 200 - it seems to be fast and effective braking too, but what will happen if from 260 to the floor - I still have serious doubts that the brakes will withstand and the discs will not lead, although we have not tried it, but something tells some vague sensations, comparing braking with 200 and 140, which still can not stand it. The brakes on the previous FX model were killed by 2, 3 brakings to the floor from 200, especially after some cycle of movement in gas-brake mode. On a good note, for a car of this class, with such performance characteristics, it is necessary to install ceramic discs and 8-piston calipers, as on the Porsche Cayenne GTS. Well, I think, over time, we will find out how quickly they die, the dealer assured that no one has yet managed to kill them :) Fresh legend ...

We go further - in front of the famous (judging by the forums of car travelers) barbecue area in the village of UMET (about 450 km from Moscow), there are actually 15 tents on each side. Initially, there were plans to dine here, but, passing by, somehow there was no feeling that:

In general, it was decided to drink yogurt and endure until Penza ... Hunger spurred cravings to increase speed, and at 220 km / h we flew into the Mordovian region ... Hello, local policemen. After studying the rights, STS, as well as OSAGO (it’s not clear, however, why, if the car is new, it has numbers and you won’t get them without OSAGO, but, apparently, they don’t teach common logic in the police yet ... nothing, Moscow too was not built right away) ... I take out 3,000 r - I see contempt in my eyes and I receive an insistent offer to go into a VAZ 2109 police car. I go up, sit down - the double of the previous Mr. vodka genetic mutations”. As before, I offer 3,000 rubles, I get the answer “don’t ... well, don’t offend us ...”, I raise the stakes to Moscow - I extend 5,000, again I get: “no ... well, this is not serious, we need 5,000 each (damn, well, right like in the movies….)".

I say: “guys, the price tag is already Moscow, let's not be grumpy, before Saratov is 350 km away and everyone needs to be fed, taking away food from your brothers is not good.” But the Mordovian traffic cops are Mordovian for that - they rested "on death ..." After 3 minutes, add. trading, this intellectual conversation begins to bother me and, having given each of them 5, as the “honest” Mordovians asked, I finished this topic and, having slipped off the side of the road, disappeared from the field of view of the local police.

We continue to drive, we fully adapted to the car, the road began to deteriorate, long wons and mounds appeared, which rock the car and try to tear it off the ground. It can be seen that the Mordovians also built the road ... I transfer the suspension to the sport mode, with the side supports of the seats and the priests, I fix myself in the chair as much as possible. It feels like in a sports car, the suspension has become much larger, the rolls have disappeared altogether, the vertical swings are extinguished immediately. A navigator sits nearby and swears at the Japanese about why it’s impossible to put electric adjustments for back and priest supports on the passenger seat, tries to hang around the cabin on particularly unpleasant sections of the road, the speed is 220 km / h - I want lunch ... The song “Now you are in army…” performed by Smeshariki – on topic…, a song about our country…”now you are in it” :)

From time to time, there are pits on the road with an area slightly larger than a car and a depth of 10-15 centimeters. To leave, you have to maneuver between lanes, and there are only two of them, damn it, and, damn it, one of them is oncoming. The car in the sport mode seemed to be glued to the road, during sharp maneuvers there was no roll or skid - the feeling that we were walking on rails, the speed, let me remind you, is 220 km / h. The navigator still complains about the lack of lateral supports, after a short discussion they came to the conclusion: “the navigator is a brake, he just can’t find them ...”, after checking at the bus stop, they found out: “the navigator is normal, the Japanese are rednecks, they really don’t exist ...”.

The rain has stopped, the fog has cleared, the car has managed so that it seems we have arrived from an off-road competition, we open the doors after stops with our little finger, it’s a pity to get the orange Alcantara dirty ... The 3rd refueling has begun, Penza has dawned on the navigator - lunch is approaching ... In the iPad we find a list restaurants in Penza, looking for something decent, the Infiniti navigator on the subject of POIs from the Michelin list in Penza is stubbornly silent. We find a restaurant, drive the address into the navigator - let's go, go the wrong way, go back, now the wrong place again, damn it, we are back in our native country, not all the streets of the glorious city of Penza are known by the Japanese navigator ...

We switch to Navitel, which seems to be our own, and should work through GPRS ... It would be better not to switch ... It does not see or know anything at all, and the Internet signal is weak. At the same time, having switched, for some reason, the ventilation of the seat turned off for me, which, by the way, has not yet turned off - it worked very well - a really useful option on a long journey. Once again we are convinced that it is impossible for our Kulibins (even official and certified ones to be admitted to Japanese electronics ...).

After 15 minutes, the navigator reports “you have reached the destination”. Deja vu… this is how the navigator in Europe usually reports and you really (well, in most cases) arrive at the point you set. Of course, the navigator told us in the purest Russian: “You have arrived at your destination”, arrived, the train, damn it, yeah. We arrived, but not at the destination (it’s not clear, by the way, why “on” and not “in”, according to the rules of the Russian language, the second is correct, but we are in Russia, we have everything “on”, even Kuchma I was offended when they said they came to Ukraine and demanded “in”, although in the sense, Ukraine is, of course, “on” :) and to the Bus Station ... There is a Bus Station, but there is no restaurant ..., well, it is expected in general ... :)

We make a Solomonic decision - we return to the main road and look for the first decent-looking restaurant - 5 min. – we find the restaurant Latvia. Remembering the USSR, we remember that things from Latvia have always been of better quality than those produced at the Bolshevichka factory. We think, well, a restaurant with such a name so dear to the heart of a Soviet person cannot be bad, and the exterior still looks quite .... We leave, +17 on the street, bright sun, we sympathize with the guys who remained in Moscow, Ipone shows +4 and rain there.

The time is 11.30, we go into the restaurant - no one, an incredibly important waiter comes out to meet and to our question: “Hello, feed breakfast?”, He says: “We don’t have breakfast, only lunch”, critically examining our appearance and clearly estimating: a will we have enough for lunch? We agree to have lunch, we take a salad, soup, the second - everything turned out to be very tasty, we leave 2,000 rubles for dinner for two, including tips - you can live here, in Moscow for this money it’s enough only for a bottle of VOSS mineral water.

The second generation of premium crossovers Infiniti FX was first shown in Geneva in 2008. The series consisted of three cars: the FX 37 with a 3.7-liter engine, its modification FX37 Limited Edition and the most powerful version of the FX 50, named after the 5-liter VK50VE engine. From 2012 to 2013, a restyled version was produced, which differed in the shape of the radiator grill, and the top modification Vettel Edition with an improved engine.

Model design

Despite the external similarity of the model with the previously released FX crossovers, the work of Japanese designers is noticeable at first sight:

  • graceful headlights and side air intakes make the car look more aggressive;
  • rounded lines and an elongated hood distinguishes the FX 50 from other mid-sized SUVs, which are usually more angular and taller;
  • a special self-healing coating of the vehicle retains its appearance practically unchanged throughout the entire operational period.

The body of the FX is covered with a special transparent paint that has a glossy sheen and the ability to restore the coating to its original state with minor damage. Scratches are restored within a week. And the recovery process itself takes place, first of all, in the sun, when the surface of the car heats up.

Inside, the second generation received not so many external changes. At least the dashboard remained in the same techno style. And the main attention is drawn to the clock of the original oval shape. Among the differences, it is worth noting the new screen of the auto multimedia system, located in the center of the dashboard.


Behind the crossover has become more space. And premium finishing materials look expensive and pleasant to the touch. At the same time, the trunk remained unchanged - quite spacious with the rear seats folded down and medium in volume in the normal state. And the Vettel Edition equipment itself differs, mainly, in a slightly reduced height and by 0.2 with accelerated acceleration to 100 km / h.


The car received an all-wheel drive transmission with steered rear wheels and a suspension with wishbones and CDC shock absorbers. Wheels have a diameter of 21 inches.
