The Hyundai i20 hatchback, which debuted in 2008, became the successor to the model. The car was developed in the German engineering center of the company with an eye on the European market.
Hyundai i20 was produced at factories in India and Turkey, it was sold in Europe, India, South Africa, Australia. Indian cars were supplied to the Russian market.
Three-door and five-door hatchbacks were equipped with 1.2, 1.4 and 1.6 petrol engines (78–126 hp) in combination with a five-speed “mechanics”, as well as 1.4 and 1.6 liter turbodiesels (90–116 hp) paired with a six-speed manual. For versions with gasoline engines of 1.4 and 1.6 liters, a four-speed “automatic” was offered for a surcharge.
In Russia, only petrol cars were sold. Prices for the Hyundai i20 started at 400 thousand rubles - for a three-door with a 1.2-liter engine in the basic configuration with two airbags, ABS and a radio tape recorder.
Deliveries of the model to the Russian market ended in the spring of 2011 due to the appearance of a hatchback in our country.

The second generation Hyundai i20 made its world premiere in September 2014 at the motor shows in Paris. Compared to its predecessor, the car not only dramatically changed in terms of appearance, but also got a completely redesigned interior, a new “cart” and more modern engines.
In November of the same year, the hatchback went on sale in the European market, but its sales in Russia are not planned.
In April 2018, a restyled hatchback made its debut in the European specification, and the visual changes affected only the five-door model (they didn’t touch the three-door - it is “positioned apart”, which even received the prefix “Coupe” to the name, and its annual circulation is small - nowhere, except for the countries of the Old World, it is not implemented).
But the technical revision affected all modifications of the G20 - the car lost its diesel engines and was "armed" with modernized gasoline units, changed the outdated "automatic" to a robotic transmission and received new options.
The "second i20" looks bright and has a lot of memorable design details that make its silhouette brazen and sporty in a good way - "meaty" bumpers, short overhangs, a sloping roof profile with blackened rear pillars, aggressive headlights and taillights. - Slightly higher in the "table of ranks" is a 1.4-liter atmospheric "four" with a multipoint "power" system, 16 valves and a valve timing mechanism that produces 100 hp. at 6000 rpm and 134 Nm of peak thrust at 3500 rpm.
- Heading the power range is the 1.0-liter T-GDI three-cylinder unit with a turbocharger, direct injection, 12-valve timing and intake and exhaust phase shifters, which is announced in two versions:
- 100 HP at 4500 rpm and 172 Nm of torque at 1500 rpm;
- 120 HP at 6000 rpm and 172 Nm of possible recoil at 1500 rpm.
The engines are mated to 5- or 6-speed manual transmissions and front-wheel drive, while a turbocharged triple is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic.
For the N-version of the hatchback, a 1.4-liter petrol turbo engine with a capacity of 115 “horses” is prepared, the performance of which reaches 160 Nm. Gearbox he relies uncontested - 6-speed manual.
The “second” Hyundai i20 is built on a front-wheel drive platform developed by European specialists. The front suspension is independent with MacPherson strut struts, the rear is semi-independent with a torsion beam.
The "sports" modification differs from the "civilian" model only in stiffer springs and shock absorbers.
By default, the car is equipped with an electric power steering integrated into the rack and pinion mechanism and disc brakes on all wheels with ABS.
In Russia, the 2nd generation hatchback is not officially sold, and in the European market (in particular in Germany), the Hyundai i20 five-door hatchback is sold at a price of 9,990 euros (as of early summer 2018).

Design
The exterior has been heavily redesigned, with a more modern and stylish look, and aggressive overtones, as that's what most buyers want. The muzzle has a slightly embossed hood, which emphasizes the narrow triangular headlights. The optics itself is halogen, and the daytime running lights are made of LEDs. On the bumper is a fairly large grille in a chrome frame. Also on the bumper you can find fog lights and the so-called small lip.
The hatchback profile has slightly swollen wheel arches, with a bevel. At the bottom there is a protruding part, which has a black molding. The upper part has a small aerodynamic stamping. The manufacturer made the handles for opening the doors from polished aluminum.
Behind you can find narrow headlights with a small number of LEDs. The trunk lid and the very shape of the rear end is curved. At the top there is a small spoiler, on which a brake light is duplicated. On the rear bumper you can find a plastic insert and small reflectors.
In general, we can say that the car looks attractive and aggressive. Designers should say a special thank you for the work they have done. Due to changes in appearance, the dimensions of the body have also changed:

The interior of the car has also received a lot of changes, it has become more modern and attractive. In front, there are good seats with little lateral support. There is more or less enough space, but not much. Three people can fit in the back, but they won’t have much space and they won’t be able to ride comfortably. The 2018 Hyundai i20 trunk also plays an important role in such cars, but here it is small, its volume is 326 liters, and if you fold the back row, the volume will increase to 1042 liters.
The driver's seat has a large 3-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel, which received a small chrome insert and a large number of multimedia controls. The instrument panel is quite simple, it has two large analog speedometer and tachometer sensors, in which electronic sensors for fuel level and oil temperature are placed. In the middle, the manufacturer installed a small informative on-board computer.
The rear view mirror on the left side displays the image from the rear view camera. The center console under the air deflectors has a head unit with a large number of buttons and a small display. The line of power units is quite diverse, but unfortunately all units are not powerful enough, they are directly created for nausea in traffic jams. Both gasoline and diesel units are offered, let's look at them in order.
- The very first unit is a 16-valve turbo diesel, which, with a volume of 1.1 liters of CRDI, produces only 75 horsepower. Due to such a small amount of power, the car accelerates to hundreds in as much as 16 seconds, and the maximum speed is 159 km / h. Fans of saving this unit should please, because it needs only 5 liters of diesel fuel in the city, and on the highway it needs a little more than 3 liters.
- The next unit is atmospheric and gasoline, its volume is larger than that of the previous one, and the power is the same. So, this 1.2 lira engine allows the car to accelerate to hundreds in 13.6 seconds, and the maximum speed has increased by only 1 km / h. At the same time, the consumption is higher and the fuel is more expensive - 7 liters are spent in the city, and 4 liters on the highway.
- The second version almost completely repeats the previous installation, also multi-point injection and a volume of 1.2 liters. The return increased to 84 horsepower, and the torque to 122 H * m. By purchasing it Hyundai i20 2018-2019 will already accelerate to hundreds in 13 seconds with a top speed of 170 km/h. Fuel consumption is equal to 7 liters of 95th gasoline in the city.
- The next engine is also gasoline and atmospheric, it is a 1.4 16-valve, which produces 100 horses. The dynamics are not surprising - it takes 12 seconds to reach the first hundred, and the maximum speed is 175 km / h. The engine consumes 5 liters of diesel fuel in the city, and 3.5 liters are needed on the highway.
Most of the engines are paired with a 5-speed or 6-speed manual transmission, but one of the units can be equipped with a 4-speed automatic. The car is always front-wheel drive.
Price
It is to be expected that it will be as affordable and budget-friendly as the first generation. The basic version costs a little - 9,990 euros, but its equipment is not very attractive either:

The most expensive version will please you with better and more interesting equipment:
