The Hyundai i20 hatchback, which debuted in 2008, became the successor to the model. The car was developed in the German engineering center of the company with an eye on the European market.

Hyundai i20 was produced at factories in India and Turkey, it was sold in Europe, India, South Africa, Australia. Indian cars were supplied to the Russian market.

Three-door and five-door hatchbacks were equipped with 1.2, 1.4 and 1.6 petrol engines (78–126 hp) in combination with a five-speed “mechanics”, as well as 1.4 and 1.6 liter turbodiesels (90–116 hp) paired with a six-speed manual. For versions with gasoline engines of 1.4 and 1.6 liters, a four-speed “automatic” was offered for a surcharge.

In Russia, only petrol cars were sold. Prices for the Hyundai i20 started at 400 thousand rubles - for a three-door with a 1.2-liter engine in the basic configuration with two airbags, ABS and a radio tape recorder.

Deliveries of the model to the Russian market ended in the spring of 2011 due to the appearance of a hatchback in our country.

After restyling in 2012, the “ay-twenty” received an updated appearance and a 1.1-liter three-cylinder diesel engine that develops 75 forces.

The production of the first generation machines in Europe ended in 2014, in India the car was made until 2015.

2nd generation, 2014

The second generation of the Hyundai i20 compact hatchback has been in production since 2014. Cars are made at factories in India and Turkey, and the main markets for the model are Europe, India, Indonesia, and South Africa. In Russia, the Hyundai i20 is not officially sold.

The lineup includes versions with three-door and five-door bodies, as well as a pseudo-crossover version of the Hyundai i20 Active with a decorative body kit and increased ground clearance. In 2018, the model has undergone a slight restyling.

Hatchbacks for the European market are equipped with 1.2 petrol engines (75 or 84 hp) and a one-liter three-cylinder turbo engine developing 100 or 120 forces. Transmissions - "mechanics" or seven-speed "robot", available for some versions. Before restyling, diesel cars were also sold in Europe.

On the Hyundai i20 for India, they put a 1.2 petrol engine (83 hp) or a 1.4 CRDi turbodiesel (90 hp) in combination with a manual gearbox or CVT.

Prices for Hyundai i20 in the European market start at 10,000 euros. Model competitors are, for example, hatchbacks

Even the first generation of the Korean car Hyundai i20, beloved by car owners, was intended to replace the Hyundai Getz in the markets in all countries, but this did not happen - both models remained on sale. And recently, a restyled version of the Hyundai i20 2018-2019 model year was presented, as well as the Active version.

new model Hyundai Ai20 2018-2019

The creators report that among the changes to the hatchback stand out increased body size, improved some of the equipment of the car and an updated appearance design. This restyling is planned and is designed to increase the competitiveness of the model relative to European brands. According to the European classification, the car belongs to the B-class models. What is the Hyundai Ai 20 after the update? Go!

The design of the new body hatchback Hyundai i20 2019

The appearance of the updated model shows the style and appeal that is possible for a modern car of this level. The front of the new Hyundai i20 has a wide grille with horizontal lines that visually divide it into small tiers.

Slightly above and to the sides of the grille are stylish full LED headlights with a catchy design. Fog lights are located on the sides in the lower part of the trapezoidal radiator grille in bracket-shaped niches. The hood has a calm design - only small longitudinal recessed ribs on its sides violate the integrity of the smooth surface of the hood cover.

The stern of the updated Hyundai i20 2019 received interesting proportions - a small top and a powerful bottom. An extension of the roof line is a spoiler large enough for such a small tailgate window.

Below we can observe the massive silhouette of the rear bumper - the smooth strokes of the side ribs located above the rear wheel arch successfully pass into the upper line of the protrusion above the rear bumper, on the sides of which there are the same as in the front, deep bracket-like niches for small marker lights. The main position lights, located above, are divided into three sections, which received a horizontal direction. In the central part of the rear bumper there is a small trapezoidal section for the license plate, and directly below it is a low but wide plastic protection of the same shape, continuing with its lines the niche for the car number.

The design of the updated i20 hatchback, when viewed from the side, demonstrates its dynamics and vigor. The design strokes of the ribs that adorned the side of the Hyundai i20, with their sharpness, create a striking contrast to the overall picture of the smooth silhouette of the body. The roof of the car received not only a sloping slope to the rear, but also a wide panoramic sunroof, which opens a full view of the sky above.

Not much has changed inside the interior of the updated Korean hatchback - according to an official statement from the manufacturer, nothing has changed in the interior of the car, but this is not so. In fact, the front seats have been slightly modified, which has a positive effect on their comfort. The driver expects aluminum pedals instead of the usual plastic ones. Also, for the safety of the driver, front airbags are provided. The car start system received the form of a keyless start - the "Start / Stop" button. Among the changes, you can add a new audio system, which, with the help of eight speakers located throughout the passenger compartment, will please its passengers with excellent sound.

The rest of the elements and equipment remained from the previous version of the Hyundai i20. The layout of the elements on the center console, the multifunction steering wheel, the information panel and other details are unchanged. The changes did not affect the finishing materials either - “to the touch” the interior remained the same.

As previously reported, the new body of the updated hatchback has been slightly enlarged. Thus, its overall dimensions are now as follows:

  • length: 3941 mm;
  • width: 1711 mm;
  • height: 1491 mm;
  • wheelbase length: 2527 mm;
  • ride height: 152 mm.

It is also worth noting that with an increase in body size, the luggage compartment capacity of the Korean hatchback remained the same, namely: 297 liters - with the normal position of the rear seats, 1047 liters - with the rear row folded down.

The 2019 Hyundai i20 trim offering remains unchanged from the previous version. Thus, the current model received absolutely identical equipment in trim levels, with the exception of those changes in the cabin that were announced above.

Specifications Hyundai i20

Among the power units of the Korean car are a 1.3-liter turbine gasoline engine with a capacity of 102 and 121 horsepower (differences in power vary depending on the strength of the turbine installed on the engine), as well as a 1.4-liter diesel engine that produces 90 horses. The car has only front-wheel drive, but the box can be chosen from five- and six-speed manual and automatic transmissions. The number of steps in this case is determined by the power of the power unit.

Price Hyundai i20 2019

The cost of the updated Hyundai i20 2019 model year is not yet known exactly and will be announced closer to the start of sales. But the approximate price tag will start from 1 million rubles.

Photos of the new Hyundai i20 2018-2019:

Hyundai i30 is a front-wheel drive subcompact hatchback with a three- or five-door body that combines expressive design, modern interior and good driving potential... Its main target audience is young and energetic city dwellers (regardless of gender), not burdened with a family, who are alien to any complexes ...

The second generation Hyundai i20 made its world premiere in September 2014 at the motor shows in Paris. Compared to its predecessor, the car not only dramatically changed in terms of appearance, but also got a completely redesigned interior, a new “cart” and more modern engines.

In November of the same year, the hatchback went on sale in the European market, but its sales in Russia are not planned.

In April 2018, a restyled hatchback made its debut in the European specification, and the visual changes affected only the five-door model (they didn’t touch the three-door - it is “positioned apart”, which even received the prefix “Coupe” to the name, and its annual circulation is small - nowhere, except for the countries of the Old World, it is not implemented).

But the technical revision affected all modifications of the G20 - the car lost its diesel engines and was "armed" with modernized gasoline units, changed the outdated "automatic" to a robotic transmission and received new options.

The "second i20" looks bright and has a lot of memorable design details that make its silhouette brazen and sporty in a good way - "meaty" bumpers, short overhangs, a sloping roof profile with blackened rear pillars, aggressive headlights and taillights. Beautiful 15-16-inch wheel rims complete the dynamic look.

In addition to the standard version, the car is available in the “off-road” Active specification, which is distinguished by increased ground clearance and a plastic body kit around the outer perimeter.

There is also a “sporty” version with the letter “N” in the lineup with more aggressive bumpers, side “skirts”, 17-inch “rollers” and N-badges.

Hyundai i20 is a typical representative of the B-class according to the European classification and is offered in a hatchback body with three or five doors. Depending on the version, the length of the car ranges from 4035 to 4045 mm, width - from 1730 to 1734 mm, height - from 1449 to 1474 mm. Its wheelbase fits into 2570 mm, and the clearance under the bottom is from 140 to 190 mm.

The interior of the "twenty" of the second generation is designed in the actual style of the Korean brand with a stylish front panel architecture, concise and informative "toolkit" and a multifunctional steering wheel. The car pleases with solid finishing materials and a high-quality level of workmanship.

On the front row of the Hyundai i20, anatomical seats with moderate support on the sides are installed, providing comfortable accommodation for riders of various sizes. Formally, the three-seat rear sofa is truly friendly only for two - they have enough space in all planes.

The luggage compartment of the five-door hatchback is 326 liters, the three-door car - 10 liters more. The "gallery" is transformed flush with the floor, as a result of which the useful capacity increases to 1041 and 1011 liters, respectively.

The “motor assortment” of the second generation Hyundai i20 in European countries combines exclusively gasoline engines:

  • The basic version is a four-cylinder “aspirated” with a working volume of 1.2 liters with distributed injection, variable valve timing and a 16-valve DOHC timing belt, available in two power levels:
    • 75 horsepower at 5500 rpm and 122 Nm of torque at 4000 rpm;
    • 84 HP at 6000 rpm and 122 Nm of torque potential at 4000 rpm.
  • Slightly higher in the "table of ranks" is a 1.4-liter atmospheric "four" with a multipoint "power" system, 16 valves and a valve timing mechanism that produces 100 hp. at 6000 rpm and 134 Nm of peak thrust at 3500 rpm.
  • Heading the power range is the 1.0-liter T-GDI three-cylinder unit with a turbocharger, direct injection, 12-valve timing and intake and exhaust phase shifters, which is announced in two versions:
    • 100 HP at 4500 rpm and 172 Nm of torque at 1500 rpm;
    • 120 HP at 6000 rpm and 172 Nm of possible recoil at 1500 rpm.

The engines are mated to 5- or 6-speed manual transmissions and front-wheel drive, while a turbocharged triple is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic.

For the N-version of the hatchback, a 1.4-liter petrol turbo engine with a capacity of 115 “horses” is prepared, the performance of which reaches 160 Nm. Gearbox he relies uncontested - 6-speed manual.

The “second” Hyundai i20 is built on a front-wheel drive platform developed by European specialists. The front suspension is independent with MacPherson strut struts, the rear is semi-independent with a torsion beam.

The "sports" modification differs from the "civilian" model only in stiffer springs and shock absorbers.

By default, the car is equipped with an electric power steering integrated into the rack and pinion mechanism and disc brakes on all wheels with ABS.

In Russia, the 2nd generation hatchback is not officially sold, and in the European market (in particular in Germany), the Hyundai i20 five-door hatchback is sold at a price of 9,990 euros (as of early summer 2018).

The list of initial equipment of the car includes: six airbags, ABS, EBV, ESC, two electric windows, standard audio system, driver's seat height adjustment, on-board computer, 15-inch steel wheels, air conditioning and much more.

In 2016, the manufacturer presented to the public a new generation of Hyundai i20 2018-2019, the exhibition was held at the Paris Motor Show. The previous generation was not produced for so long, after it was restyled and now it was decided to create a new version.

The new version is not designed for our country and it will not be sold in Russia, but there is a lot of interest from motorists and therefore we will tell you what the new generation is and how much it has changed.

Design

The exterior has been heavily redesigned, with a more modern and stylish look, and aggressive overtones, as that's what most buyers want. The muzzle has a slightly embossed hood, which emphasizes the narrow triangular headlights. The optics itself is halogen, and the daytime running lights are made of LEDs. On the bumper is a fairly large grille in a chrome frame. Also on the bumper you can find fog lights and the so-called small lip.

The hatchback profile has slightly swollen wheel arches, with a bevel. At the bottom there is a protruding part, which has a black molding. The upper part has a small aerodynamic stamping. The manufacturer made the handles for opening the doors from polished aluminum.

Behind you can find narrow headlights with a small number of LEDs. The trunk lid and the very shape of the rear end is curved. At the top there is a small spoiler, on which a brake light is duplicated. On the rear bumper you can find a plastic insert and small reflectors.

In general, we can say that the car looks attractive and aggressive. Designers should say a special thank you for the work they have done. Due to changes in appearance, the dimensions of the body have also changed:

  • length - 4035 mm;
  • width - 1734 mm;
  • height - 1474 mm;
  • wheelbase - 2570 mm.

Salon

The interior of the car has also received a lot of changes, it has become more modern and attractive. In front, there are good seats with little lateral support. There is more or less enough space, but not much. Three people can fit in the back, but they won’t have much space and they won’t be able to ride comfortably. The 2018 Hyundai i20 trunk also plays an important role in such cars, but here it is small, its volume is 326 liters, and if you fold the back row, the volume will increase to 1042 liters.

The driver's seat has a large 3-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel, which received a small chrome insert and a large number of multimedia controls. The instrument panel is quite simple, it has two large analog speedometer and tachometer sensors, in which electronic sensors for fuel level and oil temperature are placed. In the middle, the manufacturer installed a small informative on-board computer.

The rear view mirror on the left side displays the image from the rear view camera. The center console under the air deflectors has a head unit with a large number of buttons and a small display. Just below you can see a small screen and a selector with buttons that are responsible for setting the climate control. The lowest part has a 12V socket, USB port and AUX.

Specifications

The line of power units is quite diverse, but unfortunately all units are not powerful enough, they are directly created for nausea in traffic jams. Both gasoline and diesel units are offered, let's look at them in order.

  1. The very first unit is a 16-valve turbo diesel, which, with a volume of 1.1 liters of CRDI, produces only 75 horsepower. Due to such a small amount of power, the car accelerates to hundreds in as much as 16 seconds, and the maximum speed is 159 km / h. Fans of saving this unit should please, because it needs only 5 liters of diesel fuel in the city, and on the highway it needs a little more than 3 liters.
  2. The next unit is atmospheric and gasoline, its volume is larger than that of the previous one, and the power is the same. So, this 1.2 lira engine allows the car to accelerate to hundreds in 13.6 seconds, and the maximum speed has increased by only 1 km / h. At the same time, the consumption is higher and the fuel is more expensive - 7 liters are spent in the city, and 4 liters on the highway.
  3. The second version almost completely repeats the previous installation, also multi-point injection and a volume of 1.2 liters. The return increased to 84 horsepower, and the torque to 122 H * m. By purchasing it Hyundai i20 2018-2019 will already accelerate to hundreds in 13 seconds with a top speed of 170 km/h. Fuel consumption is equal to 7 liters of 95th gasoline in the city.
  4. The next engine is also gasoline and atmospheric, it is a 1.4 16-valve, which produces 100 horses. Due to the increase in power, acceleration to hundreds was reduced to 11.6 seconds, and the maximum speed increased to 184 km / h. The consumption is slightly more than the previous one, but it will not be noticeable.
  5. The latest unit in the line is a 1.4-liter turbocharged diesel engine that produces 90 horses. The dynamics are not surprising - it takes 12 seconds to reach the first hundred, and the maximum speed is 175 km / h. The engine consumes 5 liters of diesel fuel in the city, and 3.5 liters are needed on the highway.

Most of the engines are paired with a 5-speed or 6-speed manual transmission, but one of the units can be equipped with a 4-speed automatic. The car is always front-wheel drive.

Price

It is to be expected that it will be as affordable and budget-friendly as the first generation. The basic version costs a little - 9,990 euros, but its equipment is not very attractive either:

  • audio system;
  • on-board computer with a diagonal of 3.5 inches;
  • air conditioner;
  • fabric lining;
  • tripod with charging function for smartphone;

The most expensive version will please you with better and more interesting equipment:

  • button start;
  • navigation;
  • climate control;
  • touch screen multimedia 7 inches;
  • cornering lights;
  • two part-timers;
  • six airbags;
  • panoramic sunroof;
  • markup control;
  • a function that prevents fogging of the windshield;
  • keyless access;
  • bluetooth.

As a result, I would like to say that the i20 hatchback turned out to be good, with a beautiful appearance, an excellent interior, but poor technical characteristics. Existing owners speak highly of this model, and if you really want it, then you can not worry and buy a car through gray dealers.

In October 2008, at the Paris Auto Show, Hyundai Motor introduced a new subcompact 5-door hatchback of the "B" segment Hyundai i20. The public was offered a serial five-door version of the i20 and a limited eco-friendly version of the i20 Blue. It was originally planned that the new product would replace the model line, however, due to the popularity of the latter in many markets, both models are still sold in parallel. In addition to South Korea, the Hyundai i20, adapted to the European market, is mass-produced at the Turkish Hyundai Assan plant in Izmit. Through the Indian division of Hyundai India in Chennai (Chennai), the Hyundai i20 hatchback is assembled in a version specially designed for sale in Asia and Oceania. In the domestic market in Korea, the Hyundai i20 is not sold, as it is in North America, so as not to compete with the hatchback.

On March 5, 2009, as part of the Geneva International Auto Show, Hyundai Motor presented a three-door version of the Hyundai i20 hatchback. The Korean concern positioned the three-door as a model aimed at a youth audience. In August 2009, the Russian premiere of the Hyundai i20 hatchback took place in St. Petersburg.

The appearance of the i20 is designed in the corporate style of the family of models under the “i” index. The color palette available to Russian customers includes 10 color options. Official dealerships offered the Hyundai i20 in three configurations: Classic, Comfort, Style, forming a total of 20 factory assembly options. For some time, Russian buyers were offered the Elegance package. The European public was available with a Premium package.

For the domestic market Hyundai i20 was offered only with gasoline engines. Transmission - 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic.

In the standard factory set of standard options, the Hyundai i20 included a climate control system, power windows and mirrors, a CD radio with MP3 support, a tire pressure monitoring system, and keyless start. For the three-door version of the Hyundai i20, the price with a 1.2-liter engine, on 14-inch stamped steel wheels, with two airbags, belts with two pretensioners, an ABS system, electric power steering, an audio recorder with MP3 and an AUX input started from 399,900 rubles . Three-door i20 assembly with six airbags cost about 473,900 rubles. In the case of a five-door version equipped with active headrests, a full set of airbags, power windows, mirrors, heated mirrors, windows and front seats, an MP3 receiver with AUX and USB inputs, fog lights, a multifunctional steering wheel, a special luggage net for the Hyundai i20, the price and equipment in the Style version was based on an amount of about 483,900 rubles. For the most popular i20 configurations, the price started from 539,900 rubles for a 3-door version with a 1.4-liter engine and a manual transmission. For a similar assembly on the Hyundai i20, the cost in the five-door version was 10 thousand rubles more expensive.
