Hyundai Greta 1.6 or 2.0 which is better. Crete motors features and disadvantages

The Hyundai Creta mini crossover appeared on the domestic market in 2016. The car was named after the Greek island of Crete and was originally conceived as a universal model. Creta received several modifications, among which there are several all-wheel drive options with a motor to choose from. The Crete engine is suitable for any driver and is designed for a different type of riding.

Despite the large number of competitors, among which are: Renault Kaptur, Kia Soul, Skoda Yeti, the new car quickly gained popularity among drivers. The Korean company has tried to combine a confident design and solid functionality, all at an affordable price.

It should be noted that they coped with the task quite well. The car received not only the original appearance, but also a rather pleasant interior. But is everything as good under the hood as it is outside and inside? What is used in Creta timing or chain? Let's take a closer look at these questions and try to answer them.

Hyundai Creta engine range

The engine is the heart of any car and the Korean brand knows this like no other. Hyundai cars have always been distinguished by reliable engines with an increased resource and ease of operation. They equipped the lineup with the most optimal power units for such a body:

  • Gamma G4FG with a volume of 1.6 liters
  • Two-liter Nu G4NA.

The old versions of these nodes have proven themselves well: the owners often noted the absence of serious problems during operation. Engineers have finalized the design of engines for Hyundai Creta, thereby improving the technical characteristics. These changes helped make slightly outdated motors quite competitive. In the front-wheel drive version, the rear has a new generation of suspension (beam with vertical shock absorbers and modified attachment points) in front, nothing special: the usual McPherson.

The all-wheel drive modification is similar in design, but the rear suspension is independent with an electro-hydraulic clutch, similar technical solutions were used in Tucson and Santa Fe. In addition, the variations of the car are distinguished by power steering: hydraulic on the basic ones, and electric on the more expensive ones.

Engine with a volume of 1.6

Which engine should the buyer choose? Let's start with volume 1.6. GAMMA G4FG is distinguished by decent power for such a volume, low noise level and has good environmental friendliness.

The updated engine has a power of 123 horsepower, which is complemented by a thrust of 155 Nm. The unit is distinguished by the following parameters:

  • aluminum cylinder block;
  • two camshafts;
  • fuel rail injector;
  • separate ignition coils that go for each of the cylinders;
  • the use of a chain in a gas distribution mechanism;
  • CVVT system for intake and exhaust.

These technical solutions made it possible to create a balanced motor that is unpretentious and economical. In addition, it can be filled with 92 gasoline without loss of traction, which is of great importance. Hyundai engineers have also optimized the software component, leaving the electronic control system. The GAMMA G4FG engine can be combined with a 6-speed manual or automatic, depending on the selected configuration.

2 liter engine

This variation of the engine is more dynamic and, like the first one, is a modified version of the old unit and is called G4KD. The updated motor has the same design with an aluminum cylinder block, a timing chain and two shafts. In addition, there are hydraulic valve compensators, as a result of which the need for constant adjustment is eliminated.

Here, as in the engine with a volume of 1.6 liters, there is a “dual” CVVT system, which is provided for both the intake and exhaust shafts. For the domestic market, the engine will be supplied with distributed injection. The power of the two-liter "engine" is 150 hp. Similar to the previous motor, this modified MPI can be filled with 92 gasoline.

One of the main innovations of the engine is the appearance of hydraulic lifters and roller levers in the valve drive. Thanks to this, it is not necessary to regularly check the clearances in the valves and the levers themselves, as a result of which the reliability increases and the overall performance of the power unit improves: wear and fuel consumption are reduced, and the power, on the contrary, is growing.

Thanks to the upgrade, the maximum torque in the engine is available at lower revs. Like the first option, the G4KD is combined with a 6-speed manual and automatic. The motor shows a very good dynamics at above average speeds and, in general, is quite decent for such a car.

Conclusion

Undoubtedly, the network in Hyundai Creta engines is a fly in the ointment. Basically, this is due to the aluminum block. The units are high-tech, but have poor maintainability indicators.

Cast-iron sleeves poured into the block are practically impossible to get, and there is no possibility of boring. Some owners say that the resource of the car is limited to two hundred thousand kilometers, while others say that they have "hit" more than 300.

In any case, the entire block can be changed, although it will cost a lot. The indisputable advantage of Hyundai Creta is the ability to buy an economical car with an engine capacity of 1.6 liters, good power and all-wheel drive, which competitors clearly cannot boast of.

Crete engines are not perfect, but if we compare them with competitors, we can conclude that they have a simple design, sufficient power and unpretentiousness in operation, which is very important for a responsible driver. Over time, owners will be able to find out what kind of resource the engines actually have and draw the appropriate conclusions.

Hyundai Creta engine on video:

Whether for a long time or not, I'm not afraid of this word, the related Khrey was changed to Cretu. Surprisingly, I thought the Mini Cooper was hard to sell and that I had lost something in the sale, but no, Hray turned out to be an even less profitable investment.

Car was inspected today.

Engine 1.6, front-wheel drive, automatic transmission, Travel equipment, i.e. seems like a top, but without additional packages for

cameras-buttons-heating-what-there-else, the price is around 1.1 million.

I will try to compare with qashqai, although it is difficult to do this, because. different configurations and it is difficult to compare prices for these cars. It feels like in comparable trim levels with the condition of any trade-ins, the difference is 200 thousand rubles (now there are very worthy discounts on Nissans from the “full” price list).

Objectively, Creta is a cheaper car than Qashqai.

Outwardly - I like the color blue, I generally like this Hyundai color.

In terms of dimensions, the crete is slightly smaller than the qashqai (more only in

height), inside parity, and the trunk feels a little smaller, which

confirmed by a passport difference of 30 liters. In general, the trunk is adequate.

There is a certain comparative budget in the cabin, but this is already from the area of \u200b\u200b"I snickered." Gray echoing plastic, narrow-width doors. In terms of quality, plasticity, and color, the interior was more reminiscent of Testev's Zhili Emgrand than Qashqai. But at the same time, outwardly, everything looks decent enough, if you do not feel, do not gnaw and do not tap.

The bodywork is quite poor. The door and trunk openings are not painted very well, shagreen is visible, there is no varnish, the soil is visible through the paint.

I don’t know how it rides, I’ll try to ask for a ride later. Relatives are happy, they compare it with Qashqai and find pluses :) I left the car on summer tires, it’s far from spring in Moscow now, I wouldn’t dare to ride like that, but there are hopes for an early warming and massive snowmelt, so tires are bought this season will not be.

Overall, considering the price, I think that the offer is worthy for the crossover class and in general I can understand why this car sells well. For this money, you can’t buy much from the new, and adjusted for “a car is not a luxury”, as a means of transportation with increased ground clearance, Crete should perform quite adequately.

The Korean automaker Hyundai is famous for its reliable engines, which boast a high resource and ease of operation. Each new car of the company is equipped with authentic engines assembled at the facilities of the concern. The Greta crossover was no exception, the lineup of which includes two units:

  • The first Hyundai Creta engine is a 1.6-liter gasoline engine;
  • two-liter engine, also running on gasoline.

Each Creta engine has its own merits, but it has not been without its downfalls. We will talk about this and much more in today's article.

Characteristics and features of Crete motors

The characteristics of the power plants are as follows:

  • Both engines are of in-line design;
  • also, for both installations, the transverse arrangement of cylinders;
  • the number of valves and cylinders for the motors is the same - 4 each;
  • the volume is different: 1.6 l versus 2.0 l;
  • the cylinder diameter is also larger for a two-liter unit - 81/77 mm;
  • the compression ratio is greater for the younger Greta engine - 10.5 / 10.3;
  • engines are capable of producing the following maximum power - 123 horsepower at 151 Nm and 149.6 horsepower at 192 Nm;
  • motors are equipped with a distribution injection system;
  • power plants run on 95th gasoline.

1.6 liter engine

The base engine of the Hyundai Crete belongs to the Gamma family and is already familiar to Russian motorists. This motor, or rather its simplified version, has already been used in the design of some Kia and Hyundai models. We have already said above that it can produce 123 horsepower and has distinctive features:

  • aluminum cylinder block, distinguished by its lightness, but at the same time very reliable;
  • a chain is used in the timing system;
  • the injection system is equipped with a fuel rail;
  • each cylinder boasts the presence of individual ignition coils;
  • 16 valves with mechanical adjustment.

If you believe the reviews of real Crete owners, this motor is reliable and easy to operate. In addition, the 1.6-liter unit is very economical, and it can work on 92nd gasoline.

The developers do not stand still and are constantly improving the Creta engine. For example, the motor installed on the latest version of the crossover has a couple of positive changes:

  • the software component has experienced improvements, while the control system has remained the same;
  • the CWT phase control system has become more perfect.

Motor characteristics:

  • passport power - 123 horsepower;
  • volume - 1.6 liters;
  • aluminum cylinder block and cylinder head;
  • ignition is carried out by means of a coil;
  • average fuel consumption - 7 liters.

The engine performed well and received good reviews from critics. But, we also will not deny the existence of problems. They are not so serious, but we are simply obliged to inform you of them. We will take up this topic in one of the following paragraphs.

2.0 liter engine

Included in the family of the most advanced line of Hyundai engines. Recently, it has also been used on the all-wheel drive version of the crossover. This installation can be called young, as it has been used for a little more than 3 years. Features of the two-liter power unit Hyundai Creta:

  • cylinder blocks are made of light alloy metals;
  • the chain drive scrolls two shafts at once;
  • the intake and throughput shaft work together with the CWT system;
  • the engine is equipped with a distribution injection system;
  • valve lifters are automatically adjusted;
  • the power plant can run on 92nd gasoline - good news for Russian motorists;
  • a system for adjusting the geometry of the intake tract is connected to the motor.

I would like to separately note the power of the engine. According to official figures, it is 164-167 "horses", but the Russian modification produces only 149.6 horsepower. This is due to the peculiarities of Russian laws regarding transport tax. Fortunately, this did not affect the dynamics.

The main difference between the new motor and its predecessor is the appearance of hydraulic lifters. According to manufacturers, this should significantly increase reliability and simplify engine operation. Also, there are roller levers, due to which wear of the power plant is reduced, as well as fuel consumption of the crossover.

The main drawback is the complex design of the timing. Therefore, the system requires careful maintenance and works only on strictly specified categories of oil. If the compensator fails, the entire engine will have to be repaired.

Maintenance requirements:

  • oil needs to be changed every 7,500 km
  • change fuel filters every 60,000 km.

We will not talk about the resource of the motor yet, but from the positive reviews we can conclude that the installation shows itself well. Fuel consumption in mixed mode - 8 liters.

Operation problems

For several years, developers still can not fix the shortcomings. As you know, knowledge of “weak points” can be turned into an advantage in operation. Therefore, we offer you to familiarize yourself with the problematic points of the Hyundai Crete engines:

  1. Aluminum cylinder block - yes, it is corrosion resistant and lightweight, but it has several disadvantages. For example, it is subject to rapid wear, which leads to a decrease in productivity and an increase in consumption. In addition, such a block cannot be repaired, since aluminum is almost impossible to bore.
  2. Cast iron sleeves - these parts are filled with liquid aluminum and merge with the block structure. Therefore, it is almost impossible to repair or replace elements.
  3. Difficulty of repair - manufacturers claim that Hyundai motors are not repairable. The only option is home repair, but this significantly reduces the life of the work.
  4. Low service life - on the official website of the company it is indicated that the life of the power plants is 180-200 thousand km. But, as practice shows, this figure can reach the mark of 300 thousand kilometers. We will not claim that this information is objective, since the service life depends on the correct operation, fuel quality and a number of other factors.
  5. The high cost of the cylinder block - the Creta engine is equipped with an expensive cylinder block - the price of the element along with the replacement is approximately 60-80 thousand rubles. The resource of the block is usually 250,000 km.

Chinese production

Although the power plants are assembled in China, this does not greatly affect their quality. Experts note that the assembly is very accurate and does not cause any comments.

If you do not pay due attention to the "weak points" listed above, this can lead to the following problems:

  • Knocking in the timing - in 90% of cases, the reason for this is the noise emitted by the chain. It is not difficult to fix the problem - you need to adjust the valves. This problem often manifests itself on new Kreta models. The best solution is to immediately contact the technical center for help.
  • Noise resembling a clatter should not cause any concern, as it is quite normal when the nozzles are operating.
  • Oil leakage is quite rare, but still occurs. Unfortunately, the timing belt is not ideal. Therefore, if you find traces of oil at the junction of the block and head, immediately contact a car service for help.
  • Sharp jumps in the speed indicator - you need to clean the throttle valve or adjust the software.
  • Strong vibrations - they usually occur due to clogging of the throttle valve or candles. If the vibrations increase, you should pay attention to the condition of the engine mounts.
  • At medium speeds, strong vibrations are felt - usually appear due to the entry of the motor into resonance. To solve it, you just need to release and press the gas pedal again.

Summing up

Korean manufacturers for Russian motorists offered two self-sufficient power units. The role of the base is performed by a 1.6-liter unit with a capacity of 123 horsepower. It boasts an aluminum cylinder block, timing chain and fuel injection system. In practice, the motor proved to be a very high-quality and reliable power plant, consuming relatively little fuel - 7 liters on average. This Hyundai Creta engine received good marks from experts, and if it were not for a few serious shortcomings, it could be called ideal.

The older engine is a two-liter unit, which can also cooperate with an all-wheel drive system. This power plant relatively recently appeared on the market, but has already managed to establish itself as very powerful and dynamic. It is practically in no way inferior to European and American competitors. Motor power - 149.6 horsepower. Among the shortcomings, we note the complexity of the design and the high cost of repairs. Average fuel consumption is about 8 liters.

The pros and cons of the Hyundai Creta 2018-2019 in a new body are revealed based on the reviews of the owners. More detailed advantages and disadvantages of Hyundai Creta with mechanics, automatic and 4x4 all-wheel drive can be found in the stories below:

Reviews

The main thing — clearance! I stopped looking at every pebble on the road. Large diameter wheels add comfort when driving on bad roads. I don’t have to look out from behind the wheel onto the road (even with my rather big height). I was pleased when leaving for nature - even on the front-wheel drive you can drive where the road was previously closed.

A little more detail about the expense, as it excites many. We can say that he is happy. It all depends on the driving style of a particular driver, the time of year and where you have to drive. The first three winter thousand (although in our area last winter was warm) consumption was 9.4-9 liters per hundred city-highway approximately 50:50. It seemed a lot, but spring came, the run-in ended and the flow dropped to 8l.

It is worth forgetting about dynamic driving, and there are several reasons for this. Somewhat dissatisfied with the algorithm of the automatic transmission. During long climbs (or overtaking), you almost always have to use manual mode, since the machine shifts downshift early and then, apart from the roar of the engine, there is little sense.

In general, I like the car. Despite the simple interior and average appearance, the Hyundai Greta is one of those that are larger inside than outside (praise to the designers), so far it does not annoy even small jambs. And … This car is more for the city, for traffic jams, for a leisurely ride. Such a workhorse for every day.

Vladimir, a review about the Hyundai Greta 1.6 on a front-wheel drive machine.

I drove at night in normal conditions without rain, without meeting and spraying headlights - the light on Crete is very weak. This is the first problem. The second - the car (my opinion) is light, it holds the road in principle, but due to poor lighting it flew into a frozen roadside rut, it’s good that there was a low speed, it pulls and jumps. The feeling of an unbalanced car is present, maybe it's a matter of habit, I don't know.

At low speeds in the snow, this lightness is even a buzz, it rows normally and skids a little, if you add it, but the stabilization, in principle, keeps it without the intervention of the steering wheel. It works quite often. The engine is not particularly run-in, but gave heat when overtaking. Frankly, the engine is weak. Maybe for now.

The car heats up quickly and efficiently. I put 23 on the book, and forgot (climate). True, with frosts of minus 20-30, it tightens the windows when driving for a long distance, you turn it on to the normal mode, it passes. How the air conditioning and climate will work in the summer, we'll see. With the ergonomics of the cabin as a whole is normal. The doors do not close the first time, maybe from frost.

Owner's review of Hyundai Creta 2.0 with automatic and all-wheel drive

Where can I buy?

In the first week, there was a knock in the trunk, I did not find it until I got everything out of the trunk, including the shelves and the spare tire. I found a rattling in the trunk lock ... I turned to the dealer, pulled it up - corrected it.

The second week, the next day after visiting the dealer, the tire pressure sensor caught fire, checked, the pressure is normal. Proezdil a couple of days — again clattered trunk lock and gradually stopped closing from the first, second, fifth time. I visited the dealer, changed the lock, did something with the tire pressure sensors, the lamp stopped burning

On a run of 1,300 km, the consumption gradually decreased from the run-in 18-20 to 10.2 on the highway in the 100/120 mode and to 12-14 in the city. And yes, guys, this is a 95 G drive)) Mileage of 4,000 km, no more problems.

Of the disadvantages of the Hyundai Creta, I note that both the engine and the interior cool down quickly, not tightness - it bleeds from the windows in the closed state, when the seats are reclined, the blowing in the trunk is very noticeable, a lot of crickets, in the cold the trunk lock clicks, traffic safety on the highway is low - from ruts straight throws,
there is no lumbar support - the back gets tired after 400 km of the track, the audio is very mediocre, it is treated at least by replacing the head.

Nikita, a review about the Hyundai Creta 2.0 with a front-wheel drive automatic.

123 forces is enough for driving around the city, it’s stupid to expect some unrealistic acceleration indicators from an urban crossover. In conditions of driving with smooth accelerations on the streets, this engine is enough for the eyes. The 6-speed manual turned out to be cool and comfortable - a short stroke, clear shifts and electronic assistants do their job.

It turns out that you seem to be on a manual transmission, but the car still does not give you full control over yourself, but to call it a minus is complete nonsense. You just sit down and go, getting used to everything in a matter of minutes. The only thing you need to get used to is the electronic gas pedal, the delay of which is felt for about a second.

Well, appearance, it is determined for each in its own way. I, for one, like her very much. A strong and swift silhouette in a small body. Although, by the way, there is a lot of space inside the car, both in front and behind - I still don’t understand how they were able to achieve such a result.

Feedback from the owner of the Hyundai Creta 1.6 on the mechanics

Video review of the Hyundai Creta

Suspension moderately hard. In my memory, of the crossovers with a similar wheelbase, the softest is the Qashqai, the hardest is the Suzuki Grand Vitara. Crete is somewhere in the middle. The suspension is not very elastic (like the Tiguan), but not flabby (like previous Hyundais). Small bumps go well, speed bumps are no longer very good if you drive at a speed of more than 30 km / h. Large holes depending on the speed. On a small - normal, medium.

Steering wheel Crete obeys well, does not heel - handling at an average level of cars of the C-class such as Focus, which is very good. The steering wheel itself is light, it gets heavier at speed, but non-linearly, i.e. already at low speed becomes quite heavy. It is light only in the parking lot and when driving at speeds up to 10 km / h. Noise isolation is average, at low speeds it is very quiet, then mediocre.

The engine follows the gas pedal well somewhere up to 60-80 km / h. Then it starts to fade. Over 100-120 km / h is already beginning to howl. The box, again, up to these speeds works just fine. All this points to the urban nature of the car - it is good to drive on city roads of average scall and not too fast. For Moscow and the region - ideal.

Interior design, dashboard is simple but nice. Like all Hyundais, Creta has a very good appetite. The track is 9 liters, the city with traffic jams and warm-ups is 13 liters. Well, this is a fee for an atmospheric engine, peppy starts from a traffic light and a classic automatic machine - you can’t get anywhere. The brakes are again average - not sharp, but informative, though somewhere in the middle of the brake pedal stroke.

The build quality of the car is normal, but there is a disease with closing the fifth door - you have to clap hard. I really don’t recommend refueling with 92 and saving on engine oil (take Total Quartz) - because of this, two-liter engines may experience scuffing in the cylinders.

Owner review Hyundai Greta 1.6 automatic transmission with front-wheel drive

Hyundai Creta 1.6 4WD

Year of issue: 2017

Engine: 1.6 (121 HP) Checkpoint: M6

Moved to a Hyundai Creta from the previous generation Solaris hatchback. If you could buy a new 5-door Solaris, then most likely you would take it, not Creta. I will explain why, although Creta is more expensive, its equipment is poorer, a normal multimedia system with navigation cannot be ordered for any money. This is the trouble with the entire Hyundai lineup, on the one hand, the Koreans have learned to make good and reliable cars at an affordable price, but it is impossible to get exactly the car you need, you always have to compromise. For example, I do not like automatic transmissions, so I was looking for a car with “mechanics”. Buying a crossover with front-wheel drive, I think it makes no sense. For this reason alone, I didn’t take a Chinese-made car, although there are good crossovers among them at an affordable price, but all of them have front-wheel drive only. The same problem with Kia Soul.

As a result, I took a Hyundai Creta with a 1.6-liter engine and all-wheel drive. In the best traditions of the domestic auto business, the dealer tried to impose additional equipment, otherwise the ordered car would have to wait a very long time. I agreed only to protect the crankcase, additional anti-corrosion treatment, from the experience of my past cars I know that if this is not done, then after the first winter all the nuts from below are rusty. Cars with a 1.6-liter engine and a manual transmission are available only in the poor Active package, and apart from two option packages, nothing else can be ordered. The steering wheel is adjustable only in height, a simple radio, air conditioning, no rear view camera. no parking sensors. Against this background, the Winter package looks like a royal gift, for only 25,000 rubles, two-stage heated rear seats and a heated leather steering wheel.

In general, despite the poor equipment, Hyundai Creta does not give the impression of a frankly budget car. Plastic, although hard everywhere, is not bad in texture, the assembly is neat, nothing creaks or rattles. The front seats are comfortable, there is an armrest with boxing. The interior is quite spacious, there is a lot of space both in front and behind. The rear seats are not adjustable, but the angle of the backs is well chosen. The trunk is well arranged, under the floor there is a full-size spare wheel with tools and an organizer for small items, there are hooks for attaching luggage.

Hyundai Creta has an excellent dense suspension, especially compared to the previous Hyundai Solaris, where this unit was frankly unsuccessful. Good brakes. Noise isolation, unfortunately, remained mediocre.

The dynamics are so-so, on the one hand you don’t fall out of the traffic flow, but there is no lightness that was on Solaris with the same engine. It is still not clear why, but it is on the all-wheel drive version, which is heavier, that the engine power is 2 hp. less, and the maximum torque is also not as high. Fuel consumption is quite large, in the city 11 - 12 liters per 100 km, on the highway 8 - 9 liters. It's good that you can fill AI-92 gasoline.

In general, the impressions are somewhat contradictory, on the one hand, I seem to like the car, but on the other hand, there is a feeling that I didn’t buy exactly what I wanted.

Advantages of Hyundai Creta 1.6 4WD:

Modern design

Good interior layout

Good ergonomics

Four-wheel drive

Great ground clearance

Well adapted to our operating conditions

Moderate cost

Disadvantages of Hyundai Creta 1.6 4WD:

1.6-liter all-wheel drive modification with a manual transmission is available only in a poor configuration

Poor set of options
