Among the novelties of the domestic auto industry, I would like to highlight such a car as the GAZ-3310 Valdai. Its features are top notch. In addition to the advantages of the predecessor, on the basis of which the model was assembled, there were also pleasant innovations. The expectations of motorists waiting for the appearance of this car were justified. And we had to wait long enough. The first conversations began in 1999. Three years later, the car was shown at a motor show in Moscow. And only in 2005 Valdai appeared on the market.

Historical facts

In the nineties, the Russian automotive market needed medium-duty vehicles that could travel on improved roads. Therefore, the Gorky Automobile Plant turned its attention to this particular group of vehicles.

Initially, the development of the model began with joint efforts with the Minsk Automobile Plant. It was planned to take their cab type MAZ-5336. But later they refused to cooperate at the initiative of Minsk. Therefore, GAZ began developing its own type of cabin, which could fit the existing chassis. But the difficulties of assembling the Valdai car (GAZ-3310) did not end there.

First of all, the plant had to start production of more than a thousand original parts and dies. Instead of the planned four-cylinder engine, an in-line six-cylinder engine was placed under the hood. At the same time, the place for the second passenger was saved.

In 1999, at the International Motor Show in Moscow, the first prototype of the Valdai truck (GAZ-3310) was presented.

Start of serial production

Since 2003, the plant began producing block headlights, which were used for installation on restyled versions of GAZelle and Sobol cars. After that, it became possible to start mass production of the GAZ-3310.

A chassis was installed on Valdai, which was obtained as a result of the modernization of the chassis of a five-ton diesel truck GAZ-4301. Completely replaced axles, front suspension. The wheels are low profile. The pneumatic braking system is complemented by an anti-lock braking system.

Modifications

The basic version of the Valdai car (GAZ-3310) was equipped with a 3.13-liter turbocharged diesel engine. The power it produces is 150 horsepower. But this version did not go into mass production. On its basis, other modifications were collected.

The GAZ-33101 modification differed from the original version in an extended base. The GAZ-562 engine was installed on it. This version was also not mass-produced.

Among several engine options, preference was given to the engine of the Minsk assembly D-245.7. It was more economical than other versions. Models that were equipped with such a power unit were called GAZ-33104. Their power was 136 horsepower. Until 2008, models were produced that, in terms of environmental friendliness, belonged to the Euro-2 category. Later versions already fell under the Euro-3 category.

In 2006, the production of a car with the GAZ-331041 index began. The car was distinguished by an elongated base. The same power units were installed on it as on the prototype. Another modification with an extended base is GAZ-331042. GAZ-331043 differs from previous versions in the presence of a double cabin.

With the GAZ-33106 index, models with a Cummins turbodiesel were produced. This was originally the exported version. The engine displacement was 3.9 liters, power - 141 horsepower. After 2010, models with an engine capacity of 3.76 liters and a power of 152 horsepower were produced under this index. This version, in turn, also had two modifications:

  • GAZ-331061, which was distinguished by an elongated base.
  • GAZ-331063, which, in addition to an elongated base, was equipped with a double cabin and two berths.

Models with other body types were also produced. For example, a truck tractor designed to work with a flatbed semi-trailer was produced in two versions: GAZ-33104V and SAZ-3414. There was a dump truck based on the GAZ-3310 ("Valdai"), which was marked with the SAZ-2505 index. He had rear unloading, a body with a volume of 3.78 cubic meters. m and a load capacity of 3 tons. Another SAZ-2508-10 dump truck had an enlarged body (up to 5 cubic meters) and an increased carrying capacity (3.18 tons). The latest model had unloading from three sides.

Appearance

As mentioned above, Valdai (GAZ-3310) received new headlights made in the form of a drop. They are complemented by a modified radiator grille. Powerful bumper painted black. Ahead in the center, below the radiator grille, a gray insert is installed on it. The engine compartment, hood, mudguards are covered with a layer of sound insulation.

The cabin can be in two versions. In the first case, it accommodates the driver and two passengers. But this capacity is conditional. Not enough space for two passengers. Therefore, the three of us can only travel short distances. For long-distance trips, only one passenger can be accommodated in the cabin. The second version implies a double cabin that can accommodate 6 people.

GAZ-3310 "Valdai": specifications

The Valdai car was developed on the basis of a chassis from a five-ton GAZ-4301 truck. But it has undergone significant changes. The installed front axle is capable of withstanding heavy loads. A stabilizer bar is installed on the rear axle.

The suspension is made with high quality, which ensures smooth movement. So, the front suspension is represented by leaf springs on silent blocks. Hydraulic telescopic shock absorbers are installed on all sides. At the rear there is a progressive spring without a sprung suspension.

Valdai is the first domestic car with a pneumatic brake system. Prior to this, pneumatics was used only on prototypes. Due to this, the system does not need additional brake fluid. Both front and rear are equipped with ventilated disc brakes. But that's not all! To improve braking properties and improve active safety, the car is equipped with an anti-lock braking system.

The steering mechanism is supplemented with a hydraulic booster. This makes driving much easier. In addition, due to this, the wheels can rotate at an angle of 45 degrees.

Characteristics in numbers

The length of the car is 6050 mm, width - 2350 mm, height - 2245 mm. At the same time, the size of the front wheel track is 1740 millimeters, and the rear one is 1702 millimeters. The platform has the following dimensions: length - 3500 mm, width - 2176 mm, height - 515 mm.

Gross weight - 7400 kilograms for all modifications of the GAZ-3310 ("Valdai") car. Load capacity varies from 3420 to 3925 kilograms. Thus, the curb weight is in the range of 3325-3720 kilograms.

Models with an installed engine from MAZ can accelerate to 95 kilometers per hour. Up to 80 kilometers per hour, they accelerate in 45 seconds. Those models on which Cummins engines are installed have better dynamics. Up to 80 kilometers per hour, they accelerate in 40 seconds. And their maximum speed is 105 kilometers per hour. Fuel consumption also changes. In the first case, when driving at a speed of 60 kilometers per hour, the car "eats" 13.5 liters per hundred kilometers. When driving at 80 kilometers per hour, this figure increases to 18 liters. Models with the second type of engine consume 12 and 15 liters, respectively.

Manufacturer's Warranties

For car models with an MMZ-245.7 engine, the warranty period is 1 year, which corresponds to a mileage of 30 thousand kilometers. Maintenance must be carried out every 10 thousand kilometers.

If the vehicle is fitted with a Cummins engine, these times are extended. The warranty is given for 2 years (or 80 thousand kilometers). Maintenance is necessary no more than every 15 thousand kilometers.

It is not in vain that motorists have been waiting for several years for the appearance of the Valdai model. Judging by the reviews, they are quite satisfied with its characteristics. There are a large number of spare parts for cars, and at affordable prices. For example, the cost of a GAZ-3310 (Valdai) brake drum is about 250 rubles.

But there are also some disadvantages. One of them is high fuel consumption. For many analogues from other manufacturers, it is much lower. In addition, only persons with category “C” are allowed to drive this car.

Model GAZ 3310 "Valdai" is a medium-duty truck, which was first introduced by the Russian automobile company GAZ in December 2004. It replaced the previously produced model called GAZ 3307, designed for operation mainly in rural areas. Model 3310, unlike its predecessor, has a lower seating position (loading height of the vehicle when laden is 985 mm). It is worth noting that in order to reduce the loading height, the traditional 20-inch wheels were replaced with the 17.5-inch dimensions familiar to European delivery trucks. As standard, the GAZ 3310 truck is equipped with a turbocharged MMZ D-245.7 engine with an intercooler, whose power is 122 hp. (the power unit complies with Euro 2 standards). As an option, the manufacturer offers to equip the car with a licensed GAZ-562 diesel engine, and the list of engines offered includes a number of diesel engines of brands such as IVECO and CUMMINS: IVECO - FIAT - 8040.45, IVECO - SOFIM - 8140.43, IVECO - TECTOR (TCA) , CUMMINS B 3.9 140 CIV. As for the transmission, a 5-speed gearbox with synchronizers in all gears except the first is installed here.

Reducing the dimensions of the wheels made it possible not only to reduce the loading height, but also to install new steering knuckles with an increased angle of rotation of the front wheels up to 43 degrees, which, in turn, had a positive effect on the maneuverability of the car - the turning radius of the Valdai is only 6.4 meters (long-wheelbase version - 7.7 m). The front and rear suspensions are based on leaf springs. The GAZ 3310 pneumatic brake system has front and rear ventilated disc brakes, and the truck is also equipped with an ABS anti-lock system from the German company Knorr-Bremse and power steering.

The triple cab of the GAZ 3310 truck was borrowed from the Gazelle. The driver's seat is adjustable, which, together with the adjustable steering column, creates quite comfortable conditions for driving, both in the urban rhythm of traffic and on the highway. The truck dashboard has been updated with two electrical pressure gauges for each brake circuit. The instrument cluster is borrowed from the GAZ 3110 model, and the steering wheel is the same as that installed in the GAZ Sobol car.

It is also worth noting that within the framework of the VII International Specialized Exhibition "Commercial Motor Vehicles-2006" the magazine "Komtrans" held a contest "The Best Commercial Vehicle of the Year in Russia", following which the GAZ-3310 "Valdai" model became the winner in the nomination "The Best Domestic Truck ".

The production of GAZ 3310 trucks continues at the present time, and by 2010 the manufacturer plans to release a new modification of this vehicle.

GAZ-3310 "Valdai" is a medium-tonnage low-bed truck of the "N2" category with a comfortable cab, reliable imported components and assemblies, as well as good adaptability to Russian climatic conditions. The release of the "original" GAZ-3310 began in 2003 - since then, Valdai has experienced many upgrades, acquired various modifications, and also managed to gain a reputation as a reliable assistant and become one of the leaders in its segment.

The appearance of this truck is partially copied from the GAZelle, from which the Valdai inherited the power structure of the cab, as well as the front drop-shaped optics. Meanwhile, this medium-duty truck received a different bumper, upgraded hood and a different grille, which gave the appearance of the car a little originality and originality, allowing it to stand out on the road.

The standard cabin for Valdai is equipped with two hinged doors with a fairly spacious opening, a large windshield with good visibility, as well as large manually adjustable side mirrors mounted on outriggers, which minimizes the number of "dead zones".
The double-row cabin is additionally equipped with two side windows and an enlarged roof with a built-in sunroof.

The interior of the car is quite simple in design, but at the same time it provides the proper level of comfort and is distinguished by well-thought-out ergonomics, the only “white spot” in which is the horn button placed on the left steering column switch, and the obsolete gearshift lever sticking out of the floor.

The standard Valdai cab is equipped with a driver's and dual passenger seats with fabric upholstery, mild lateral support, seat belts and comfortable head restraints. In the GAZ-331063 modification (with a “two-row” cab), the truck interior receives a second row of seats, designed for 4 passengers (note that landing on the second row is carried out through the front passenger seat, which leans forward, which cannot be attributed to the advantages of this car). Thus, the capacity of this car is 3 or 7 people (including the driver), depending on the design of the cab.

The base flatbed truck "Valdai" (GAZ-33106) received a wheelbase of 3310 mm. The overall length in this case is 6050 mm, of which 1030 mm falls on the front overhang, and another 1710 mm on the rear. The width of the cabin is 2164 mm, the width of the car along the loading platform is 2350 mm, and the overall width, taking into account the mirrors, reaches 2643 mm. The height at the top of the cab is 2245 mm, the height at the top of the tent is 2980 mm. The truck ride height under the rear axle is 177 mm.

We add that in the GAZ-331061 modification, this car receives a wheelbase increased to 4000 mm and a rear overhang equal to 2535 mm, which is why the overall length of the car grows to 7565 mm.

And in the GAZ-331063 Valdai-Farmer modification, the truck also receives a wheelbase of 4000 mm, but at the same time, 1740 mm is allocated to the rear overhang, and the overall length is 6770 mm. We also note that the cabin of the "Farmer" is slightly higher than that of the standard "Valdai" - 2350 mm.

In the basic modification (GAZ-33106) and in the version with a double cab (GAZ-331063), Valdai is equipped with a loading platform with a frame removable awning and metal folding sides, the height of which is 515 mm. The length and width of the loading platform are respectively 3500 and 2176 mm. In the GAZ-331061 modification, the platform length is increased to 5000 mm. In all cases, the height of the cargo compartment along the awning does not exceed 1750 mm, and the loading height of the platform is 985 mm.

Depending on the performance of the GAZ-33106 and its configuration, the curb weight of the truck varies from 3325 to 3610 kg. The total mass of the car in all cases is 7400 kg, and its carrying capacity according to the passport is 3500 kg, but the manufacturer allows an increase in carrying capacity up to 3900 kg.

Specifications. In the GAZ-33106 version, Valdai is equipped with a Cummins ISF3.8e4R154 diesel engine that meets the requirements of the Euro-4 environmental standard. The engine has 4 cylinders in-line with a total displacement of 3.76 liters, is equipped with a non-sleeved cast-iron cylinder block, a 16-valve timing belt with a chain drive, Denso fuel equipment and a turbocharging system with intercooling of the charge air.
The maximum engine power is 152 hp. and develops at 2600 rpm. In turn, the peak torque is reached in the range from 1200 to 1900 rpm, at which it is equal to 491 Nm.

At "gross weight" this engine "eats" about 12.1 liters of fuel per 100 km (when driving at a constant speed of 60 km/h). He gains the “first hundred” on the speedometer in 40 seconds, and his maximum is fixed at around 105 km / h.

As a gearbox for the GAZ-33106, a 5-speed manual gearbox with an aluminum crankcase, reinforced synchronizers and a gear ratio range from 6.55 to 1.0 is used. The gearbox interacts with the engine through a Sachs single-disk dry clutch with a hydraulic drive.

"Valdai" in all modifications has a rear-wheel drive with a banjo-type drive axle. The frame structure of the car rests on an Anvis dependent spring suspension, front and rear supplemented with anti-roll bars and double-acting telescopic hydraulic shock absorbers. The brake system of the truck received two working circuits, an ABS system and disc brakes with pneumatic drive on all wheels.
Steering - with a double-articulated steering shaft, as well as a "screw-ball nut" type mechanism, supplemented by an integrated hydraulic booster from ZF.

The minimum turning radius of the Valdai truck is 6.4 meters (for the basic modification), no more than 7.7 meters (for the version with an increased wheelbase) or 8.2 meters (for the GAZ-331063 Valdai-Farmer modification).

Prices. In the Valdai database, it is equipped with 17.5-inch steel wheels, an additional step, gearbox protection, fuel tank protection, halogen optics, a fuel water separator, cruise control, fabric interior and interior heater.

The final choice fell on the Minsk development - MMZ-245. In recent years, this power unit was equipped with all copies of the GAZ 3310 (Valdai) sent to other countries.

The machines used in Russia were equipped with a Cummins ISF 3.8 engine. For consumers, there were several options that differed from each other in power and maximum torque.

Cummins, an American-based company, was known for manufacturing diesel powertrains. She has worked in more than 20 countries, including Russia. ISF motors, which were equipped with the GAZ-3310, were assembled at a specialized enterprise in China, which provided engines for up to 400 thousand cars a year.

The American power plant was equipped with a turbocharger. The main feature was the cast-iron sleeveless block. All cylinders (each with four valves) were placed under one common head. A single-row chain was located next to the flywheel, which acted as a drive for the gas distribution mechanism. Together with sump composites and a valve cover, this design solution provided a minimum level of noise from the operation of the power unit.

Engineers have long determined the optimal configuration for the engine. It was decided to set the average power. This was enough for movement on Russian roads and did not overload the transmission, as a result of which it served for many years without serious breakdowns. For 100 kilometers in urban conditions, the owners spent 14-17 liters of fuel.

A few words about the Cummins ISF 3.8 engine

The Cummins ISF 3.8 power plant, which was used in the GAZ-3310, had the following technical characteristics:

  • Power - 143-170 horsepower;
  • The highest torque is 450-600 Nm at 1200-1300 rpm.

The design included a high-pressure radial fuel pump from Common Rail, which belongs to BOSCH. The pump was supplemented with an electromagnetic regulator and a mechanical booster pump. Two filters were used in the system: preliminary and fine filters. The device also provided for a manual fuel priming pump and an electric diesel heater. The cleaning elements are interchangeable, any driver could install a new one in a few minutes.

Transmission GAZ-3310 Valdai

The products of the Gorky Automobile Plant have always been famous for their reliable transmission mechanisms, so the engineers did not come up with something new. They compiled a system from components that had previously been used in other machines. The only innovation was the diaphragm clutch, consisting of a single disc.

All varieties of the GAZ-3310 received a five-speed manual gearbox. It was supplemented with a power take-off shaft. For the production of the crankcase, an aluminum alloy was used. Strength increased by developed stiffeners. To increase the supply of working resource, the designers made the connector vertical.

The rear axle was taken over from the legendary GAZ-53. It was equipped with modern details, while maintaining high quality and reliability. In a hypoid gearbox, consisting of one stage, the gear ratio was reduced to 2.417. The specialists of the enterprise took this step because of the small diameter of the wheels and the reduced speed of the diesel engine. Many consumers asked engineers to introduce a limited slip differential from the GAZ-66 into the device to increase cross-country and off-road terrain. However, numerous requests were not heard, so GAZ Valdai forever remained a transport for the urban environment.

The frame of the car consisted of spars. In each part, the height of the profile changed, and the thickness of the metal was unchanged everywhere - 6 millimeters. To reduce the cost of production of modifications, engineers introduced into the frame design the ability to install riveted inserts in the spars. This is convenient and economical, since each variety required a different wheelbase and strength. Inserts made it possible to quickly adjust these parameters without disturbing the operation of the gearbox.

The suspension has undergone major changes. Indigenous sheets of springs received twisted ears. Silent blocks were installed in the areas of connection with the frame. The springs installed in the front consisted of 75 mm sheets. At the rear, the springs received three straight leaves out of eleven. They were also stripped of sprung pads, which had been used for many years on various products of the Gorky Automobile Plant. Taken together, all structural solutions of the suspension ensured a smooth ride, high stability on any surface and stable operation of the gearbox.

All brakes were of the disc type. The developers of the machine abandoned the domestic pneumatic drive, ordering it in another country from a reputable manufacturer. Thanks to this, drivers were able to transport trailers behind them, which had a similar braking system. Truck braking has been improved by eliminating the hydraulic mechanism in favor of a modern version.

Since the company's management initially planned to supply the GAZ-3310 to other countries, the engineers had to "customize" it to European standards. One of these is ISO, which fixes the way the wheels are attached. The hubs were equipped with seats. The wheels were fixed with six nuts and washers.

GAZ-3310 specifications:

The cabin was made in accordance with the usual "gazelle" style. However, the changes were visible at a glance. The designers increased the fenders with plastic elements, changed the design of the radiator grille, redesigned the bumper (made it from three parts, the central one is metal). New indicators have been added to the dashboard. The only negative was the electronically actuated gas pedal. It did not differ much from the classic version, but it required additional costs for car maintenance.

Additional systems GAZ-3310 Valdai

The machine was equipped with several auxiliary mechanisms that simplified work, increased comfort and safety. These included: power steering, ABS, cruise control and ANVIS engine mount.

The transport was adapted to the harsh Russian winter, having equipped it with a preheater and a gearbox from the GAZ-53. Heating was carried out by a spiral located in the internal manifold, which heated the air. The owner also had the opportunity to connect additional heating devices to the 220 volt network. It took no more than 2-3 minutes to heat up the power unit. In addition, such a system provided heating of the oil in the oil pan.

On the basis of the standard GAZ-3310 car, the designers developed several varieties, many of which are still used today:

  • 33101 - a long version of the car, under the hood of which was the GAZ-562. The model did not enter mass production;
  • 33104 - turbodiesel equipment, which was equipped with the Minsk D-245 power plant;
  • 331041 - similar to the previous model with a long base;
  • 331043 - the variety received a double cabin, designed for six passengers;
  • 33106 - version with the American power unit Cummins ISF 3.8;
  • 331061 - the previous modification, but with a long base;
  • 331063 - the car received a double cab with two berths;
  • 33104B - a truck-type tractor, which was used to tow a flatbed semi-trailer;
  • 43483 - a prototype that received a high-strength suspension and an improved gearbox. Mass release was not carried out;
  • SAZ-2505 - rear unloading dump truck, made on the basis of chassis 33104. Carried up to 3,000 kilograms of cargo, body volume was 3.78 cubic meters;
  • SAZ-2505 - an improved version of the dump truck. The carrying capacity was increased to 3,180 kilograms, the volume of the body was up to 5 cubic meters. Unloading was carried out from all sides;
  • SAZ-3414 - a truck-type tractor, which was produced on special orders from government agencies.

The chassis was used to install various superstructures that were used in utilities, agriculture, etc.

What can be the conclusion?

GAZ-3310 Valdai is a quality product that has served its owners faithfully for 11 years. During this time, the car has collected a huge number of positive reviews, which confirm its high quality. Today, copies of the last years of production can be bought on the secondary market for 0.9-1 million rubles.

Valdai GAZ-3310 knows only one design option. And it does not matter that they are like two drops of water similar in appearance to the previous model.
