At all factories, manufacturers write a warranty period of 12, 24, 36, 40 months, which means a warranty period of operation and nothing more!

Replacing the battery in stores occurs only if there is a factory defect, while the battery cannot be replaced if it has exhausted its resource before the expiration of the warranty period.

The resource depends on many parameters: climatic conditions, car brand, the number of “wound” kilometers, on the operation of the generator and on you personally.

What is a factory warranty?

1. Rupture of internal connections due to non-soldering:

Breakage of jumpers between plates;
- interruption of connections between banks;
- do not solder borns (i.e. open terminals)

2. Short circuit of the plates, in the absence of shedding and warping of the plates in the bank.

The warranty card is filled out for each battery upon sale. This coupon assumes that the battery may have a manufacturing defect that was not detected at the end of its production cycle. And as soon as this manufacturing defect is found (with the help of specialists from the warranty center), this battery must be replaced within the prescribed period.

The warranty is not established for other characteristics of the battery (calendar resource and vehicle mileage resource, wear rate, the nature of the decrease in performance and the decrease in its performance, etc.), since it is impossible to control the mode of operation of the vehicle and battery maintenance.

Experts distinguish manufacturing defects (associated with the manufacture of batteries) from operational ones, and the guarantee is given only for the first of them. Therefore, the validity of the warranty card applies only to a battery with a manufacturing defect that was not detected in the control area during its manufacture. There are very few of these batteries on the market. All "healthy from birth" batteries do not need a warranty card!

But if you have:

The color of the electrolyte has changed,
- low electrolyte level (plates are bare),
- the density of the electrolyte is not correct,
- there are mechanical damages,
- electrical equipment is faulty, then the plant does not accept such batteries for exchange.

Here you can only rely on the loyalty of the seller. Because competition in the market is high, some companies, in the presence of such defects, meet customers halfway and, in order to maintain their image, offer various compensation options, up to exchanging a failed battery for a new one. At the same time, companies are trying to reduce their risks and costs, for which they offer various free or paid services for servicing and maintaining batteries throughout the entire warranty period.

Which battery lasts the longest?

The answer is simple - buy batteries where you will be provided with:

1. The correct selection of batteries for a specific car.
2. Regular battery diagnostics and maintenance.

The concept of "diagnostics and maintenance" includes:

l. Battery Status Diagnosis

Checking the battery capacity
- checking the starting current of the battery
- measurement of electrolyte density in each bank
- check the battery for self-discharge

2. Battery maintenance

Charging a discharged battery (cycling as needed)
- topping up with distilled water
- alignment of electrolyte density by electric method
- desulfation of plates if necessary
- cleaning batteries from dust and dirt, which eliminates current leakage through the battery case
- stripping the terminals from oxides, which improves contact and prevents the loss of starter characteristics
- checking and cleaning the vent holes of the plugs, which reduces the risk of rupture of the case from excessive pressure in case of abundant outgassing
- diagnostics of electrical equipment of the car

Draw your own conclusions...

Does the warranty card cover the phone battery? The battery is a component that often fails. Buying a smartphone, the buyer wants to know if he can replace or repair the power supply if it breaks. According to Article 20 of the Consumer Protection Compendium, the buyer is entitled to a refund in the event of a device failure through no fault of his own.

The right to repair is granted to the mobile phone along with its accessories, including the battery. You can find out the warranty period for the battery of the purchased phone by looking at the warranty card. There are several warranty options:

  1. General (for all devices).
  2. General, but not provided for the battery (this must be indicated in writing).
  3. There is no guarantee for a cell phone, but the battery is registered.
  4. There is a warranty period for both the battery and the smartphone, but their duration does not match.

All cases, except for the second, are the basis for visiting the company's service center to replace or repair the battery charge. In the second case, it will not be possible to repair or replace the part according to the law. This is likely only if, as a result of the inspection, the manufacturer (more precisely, the service center representing it) decides to extend the coupon to the battery pack in order to eliminate the conflict.

How much is the phone battery warranty

According to the current article, the term for the provision of repair work extends from the information specified in the coupon. There is no general guarantee template. The period of its validity can be from 1 month to 3 years. Basically, this is 6 months or 1 year - how much exactly is determined by each specific manufacturer (Samsung, Apple, etc.).

Let's consider several options:

  1. There is a purchase document, information about the power part is not indicated, you need to act immediately. You can contact the service before the expiration of the warranty card for the entire device.
  2. The term for the component is prescribed separately. It is longer than the term for the product itself. You can contact the company while the coupon for the block is valid.
  3. The replacement battery expires before the product coupon period. You can still try to repair the damage.

For a better understanding, you can refer to the table:

Paper typePeriod of circulation
For all mobileUntil the end of the validity of the coupon for the device
For power supplies onlyUntil the end of the battery warranty
On the battery and smartphone, the battery will expire earlierThe entire period of validity of paper on a smartphone
On the block and phone, on the mobile phone expires earlierThe entire period of validity of the document for the component
Battery repair and replacement is prohibited free of chargeNever

Procedure for applying for a guarantee

If the warranty document is still valid, contact the manufacturer's service center. The official website indicates which address to contact in case of a device breakdown.

Action algorithm:

  1. The device together with the battery is given for repair;
  2. An examination is carried out, where it is revealed what exactly is out of order (block, contacts or the cell itself);
  3. It turns out whose fault the failure occurred (company or owner);
  4. If the culprit of the failure is the company, then the service center will compensate for the damage.

Compensation for damage is carried out within 45 days from the date of receipt of the device for repair. If the company is conscientious, it will perform the necessary operations on the first day or within a week.

What is necessary

When you contact the service center, you must have:

  • drawn up circular;
  • receipt for the purchase of the product;
  • passport.

Be sure to take with you the smartphone itself and the battery charge that is out of order. Otherwise, the component part cannot be inspected and repaired.

Subtleties and nuances of the procedure

The owner of the part must claim damages. Types of refunds:

  • financial compensation;
  • part replacement;
  • part repair.

It is not possible to receive several types of compensation at once. It is also impossible to completely replace the device if the battery breaks.

Free repairs are carried out only if the part is out of order due to the fault of the manufacturer (due to marriage, flaws).

Perky cell phone dealers are often convinced that they shouldn't be taking a given product back because of a battery failure. They do not agree to other options - to replace or repair. The store employees are trying to lay all the responsibility on the buyers of phones, who in such a situation are left without money and without a mobile phone.

To justify their actions, the sellers claim that the battery is different, and the latter expires much earlier. Some stores set the expiration date arbitrarily, at their own discretion. However, consumer rights law answers the question of whether the manufacturer's warranty covers a "dead" phone battery in a different way.

What the law says

If the warranty period for the battery has already expired, and the device itself is still valid, then in the event of a battery malfunction, the store must fulfill one of the requirements of the buyer:

  • at your own expense to repair a mobile phone by replacing the battery;
  • change the device to the same or similar model (with an additional payment or a refund of part of the funds);
  • pick up the faulty device and return the money to the citizen.

When communicating with representatives of the store, one should refer to the provisions of two laws - on consumer rights and the Civil Code of the Russian Federation. Thus, Article 477 of the Civil Code unambiguously states: if a lesser guarantee is established for some part of the product than for the entire product, the buyer, upon detection of a defect in the component, has the right to demand its elimination within a longer warranty period. That is, if the warranty for the batteries is six months, and for the phone - two years, you can return the device that is not working due to the battery within two years.

A similar provision is contained in the law on consumer rights - article 19. But a reservation has already been made here: "unless otherwise provided by the contract." This clarification can complicate communication with the store if he enterprisingly wrote in the contract an impossibility clause with a broken battery outside the warranty period.

Seeing him, it is better to refer to the Civil Code in the claim. When buying a phone, especially an expensive one, such details must be clarified and the information received must be verified at the stage of signing the contract. You should buy a mobile device in stores that take into account the interests of the consumer as much as possible.

What to write in a claim

The claim addressed to the store manager indicates the date and place of purchase, as well as the model of the defective phone. Further, it is reported that it cannot be used due to a defective battery and explains what it specifically consists of. Then the buyer, referring to the norms of the laws, asks either to replace the battery or return the money for the purchase.

Copies are attached to the application:

  • cash receipt:
  • issued warranty card;
  • conclusion of the service department (if it was made).

The claim is delivered by the buyer personally or sent by registered mail. He must have in his hands either a postal receipt for sending the application, or its second copy, endorsed by the store, as well as the original documents. If the seller does not respond within 10 days, the consumer has the right to defend his interests in court.

How to extend the life of a phone battery

The seller of a phone with low-quality batteries can be called to account. However, during the examination, without which the dispute is unlikely to do, the buyer will have to prove that the failure of the battery did not happen due to improper operation of the device. In order not to really become the culprit of a battery failure, sellers and manufacturers of mobile phones recommend that you follow the following rules:

  1. Do not overheat your phone battery. Temperatures above 40 degrees contribute to its rapid aging and failure.
  2. The first charge of a new phone should last at least 6 hours.
  3. You don't have to wait until the battery is completely discharged. The device should be recharged when the phone starts to "ask" for it.
  4. Do not work for a long time with an almost discharged mobile phone without connecting it to a power source, or charging it just a little (for example, from 3% to 10%). It is advisable to first charge the gadget by 50%, and only then continue using it.

Ignoring these rules may entail not only legal difficulties with the return or exchange of goods. Sometimes it causes the phone battery to detonate.

A defective battery makes it impossible to use the phone, which sometimes has to be saved for more than one month. Therefore, when purchasing a device, it is necessary to carefully study the warranty document, the content of the purchase and sale agreement, and choose a seller who is loyal to the rights and interests of buyers.

To submit the battery to the warranty point, you need a correctly completed warranty card. It is issued at the time of purchase. The following information must be filled in the ticket:

Battery type and data: EMF, voltage indicators that occur at a load of up to 200 A for 7 seconds of discharge, a battery test mark.

The date the battery was sold.

Signatures of the seller and the person who made the purchase.

Stamp of the store that sold the battery.

Devices for testing and diagnosing batteries

1. Special hydrometer.

2. A tester that measures EMF.

3. Load plug-probe for 150-200 A.

4. Charging-discharging stand (designed for discharge up to 700 A).

5. A device (tester) that evaluates battery parameters.

The order of inspection and diagnostics of the battery

First of all, they are examined in order to identify defects. First of all, they check the integrity of the battery case itself - in order to determine if there are dents and cracks, as well as traces of smudges on the side walls.

The inscriptions on the battery must fully match the data affixed to the warranty card.

Then the static indicators are measured. These include EMF, density and t-ra of the electrolyte. In a battery with plugs, the level above the plate blocks themselves is also measured.

The color of the indicator is fixed (if any).

In the test mode, the battery is discharged to the probe plug (150-200 A). Any change in voltage level is measured using an accurate tester, which is connected to the battery poles. Then, comparing the static indicators of the battery with the data of the discharge, the expert evaluates the state of the battery under test.

Sometimes the battery is checked by such a parameter as the integrity of the internal circuit. To do this, the battery is connected to the charger, which must be equipped with a knob that regulates the current and charge voltage level (corresponding to a minimum of 20 V). This should be done because a deep discharge battery has a higher internal resistance. If it turns out that there is no charging current, you need to check whether there is a gap between the banks. The check is carried out through special holes in the battery cover (a power surge between several banks is checked).

Full charge of an already discharged battery

It is done in a state of constant current or constant voltage (until the desired indicators stabilize). These include the density of the electrolyte (reduced to 25°C), the voltage level at the poles of 16.0-16.3 V, achieved at a current at the end of the charge of 5% of the digits of the nominal capacity. The density of the electrolyte at the time when the charge is in progress must be monitored in all battery banks. The so-called electrolyte boiling should be controlled, and at the end of the charging process, density correction is carried out in banks where there is a deviation from the desired indicators.

When the battery is fully charged and a pause is made (the so-called gas release), the battery is tested with a current discharge of 0.4-0.6 EN (the desired temperature is about 26 degrees).

It is the voltage that is obtained during a discharge of half a minute that demonstrates the current state of the battery and the degree of deterioration. Please note that the voltage must not drop below 10 V.

If everything goes according to the above plan, then the battery is recognized as serviceable.

If there is a malfunction in the battery, then boiling of the electrolyte in the faulty bank will take place, as well as the release of a vaporous gas that has an unpleasant odor. In this case, the battery should be opened - to deal with the causes of the defect. There are two options: it could appear as a result of a factory defect, or it could arise in the operating mode.

The main task of the test is to confirm the presence of a defect in the battery, which has lost its working qualities in the start mode. Naturally, with a valid warranty.

Checking batteries belonging to the category of "corkless"

It is more complex. Several holes with a diameter of no more than 6 cm are checked in the battery cover. Thanks to them, both the level and the density of the electrolyte in the battery are assessed. If the battery is in good condition, the resulting holes are sealed with a soldering iron using plastic blocks or strips. Faulty batteries are subject to opening - in order to determine the cause and features of existing defects. But to carry out such actions (especially for drilling), special skills and safety precautions are required.

Causes of problems with maintenance-free batteries

Very often, the status of "maintenance-free battery" misleads inexperienced motorists. Namely: drivers believe that the purchase of this battery makes it unnecessary to monitor the state of charge of the battery in different situations. Meanwhile, as a result of intensive long-term movement and an increase in temperature under the hood, the electrolyte often boils away, and its level decreases. This is a harsh reality: the electrolyte level becomes lower due to boiling, and will not be equal to the declared standards. The consequences of the lack of control during operation will lead to problems with the battery.
