Volkswagen Tiguan new how many liters of trunk. Volkswagen Tiguan: specifications, photos, modifications

15.10.2019

The updated Volkswagen Tiguan of 2018 surpassed its predecessor in the previous body in almost all respects. The futuristic appearance now brings the compact crossover closer to the premium segment, the convenience and luxury of the cabin also leave an extremely positive impression, and the technical characteristics make it a worthy competitor to the brainchild of the famous “German trio” manufacturers: Audi, BMW and Mercedes.

But if, in all the indicated parameters, a mid-size SUV is quite comparable with the flagships of its segment, then the configuration and prices of the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan may seem to many potential buyers a much more attractive offer. Of course, you can’t call it a budget purchase, however, by buying a Tiguan instead of one of its European counterparts, you can save a very significant amount of money, while getting a car that is practically in no way inferior to them.

2018 Volkswagen Tiguan review

Already after the appearance on the automotive market in 2007 of the first generation of the mid-size crossover Volkswagen Tiguan, the public perceived its release with a bang. Consumers, especially fans of the VAG concern, were delighted with the appearance of a cheaper and affordable version of the Audi Ku 5, assembled on the same platform and having all the same technical characteristics and a wealth of options. The SUV did not go unnoticed among the representatives of the automotive press, being highly rated by almost every one of them. Well, those few shortcomings that took place in the first body were corrected already in the second generation of the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan. Formally, the start of sales of new items in their homeland began a year earlier.

Externally, the car captivates with a combination of futuristic elements and adherence to classic design solutions. The same can be said about the interior of the Tiguan - having experienced all the amenities of its interior, hardly anyone will be left disappointed. The crossover did not let us down on the technical side either, and turned out to be as balanced as possible in terms of dynamics, handling and cross-country ability, although it is positioned as an urban SUV. The configurations and prices for the Tiguan lineup are very pleasing - for a little less than one and a half million, you can already become the owner of a copy in the basic version, and for 1,900,000 rubles a version with maximum equipment becomes available.

Dimensions

In the new body, the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan has slightly increased in size compared to its predecessor, but visually it began to seem smaller - you can even say that it now looks more like a “high-set” station wagon. This was achieved thanks to the latest form factor used in the development of the model. as a result, the SUV received the following dimensions:

  • length - 4486 mm;
  • width - 1839 mm;
  • height - 1673 mm;
  • wheelbase - 2677 mm;
  • clearance - 200 mm;
  • front / rear track width - 1576/1566 mm;

The ride height is not adjustable by the driver, but it is more than enough for good cross-country ability on problematic Russian roads and off-road. Yes, and on a flat road surface, the clearance provides the most comfortable ride, reducing the noise level emanating from under the wheel arches.

As for the wheels, the variety presented to the buyer is extremely large and depends solely on the price and configuration of a particular instance. So Volkswagen Tiguan 2018 model year can be equipped with wheels dimension:

  • 215/65/r17;
  • 235/55/r18;
  • 235/50/r19;
  • 235/45/r20;

A low profile provides the best road presence, while a high profile is more suitable for fans of a quiet, smooth ride with a maximum level of comfort.

The curb weight of the car, depending on the installed power unit and transmission, ranges from 1580 to 1723 kg, which, on the one hand, is not too much for a car of this class, on the other hand, it provides sufficient downforce for good handling and maneuverability while driving.

Exterior

The updated Volkswagen Tiguan of 2018 cannot be attributed to sports cars - accordingly, an excessive excess of aggressive style cannot be found in its design. This crossover cannot be called a full-fledged SUV, designed to conquer mud puddles, swamps and bumpy slopes, although its technical characteristics are quite suitable for this even without additional tuning - therefore, there was no place for angularity and clumsiness in its design. The Tiguan can rather be classified as a golden mean - and its exterior has one of its main goals to attract the attention of representatives of completely different contingents of consumers: from young and energetic enthusiasts to respectable family people of the age who prefer comfort, but do not disdain and modern stylish frills.

The front bumper grille is very elegantly made: several chrome strips of medium thickness, the company logo of the manufacturer, transitions at the joints with the headlights and nothing more. By the way, about the headlights - compared to those of their predecessor in the first body, they became thinner, they received LED strips in the lower part as an option for an additional fee and, in general, they began to illuminate the road in conditions of insufficient visibility much better. But the fog lights look somewhat outdated compared to other design solutions - however, few people pay attention to such trifles, especially since they also provide the proper level of illumination of the surrounding space.

From the side, the car looks quite elegant due to such insignificant, at first glance, elements as compact door handles and a horizontal line at the level of the door cards, going from the front fenders to the rear lights, side mirrors, slightly tapering from the base to the center and neat glass lines .

The rear view of the new Volkswagen Tiguan allows you to properly appreciate a small but very original spoiler on the tailgate with an integrated brake light, taillights of an interesting shape and a dual exhaust.

Salon and trunk

It cannot be said that the interior of the Volkswagen Tiguan in the new 2018 body is completely devoid of flaws: since this is still a budget segment, you can find a lot of plastic elements in the cabin, regardless of price and configuration. However, as numerous test drives by independent experts have shown, the plastic is not only soft enough not to irritate the driver and passengers upon tactile contact, but it does not even make unpleasant sounds while driving, which is a sore spot for most competitors.

In addition, if passengers still have the opportunity to turn their eyes to the trim elements and the front torpedo cover, then the driver’s attention will be completely absorbed by the crossover controls, which, just the same, are made at the highest level. A multifunctional steering wheel with an interesting shape, comfortable paddle shifters, an informative dashboard with many digital elements, a gear selector that fits perfectly in your hand - all this creates the feeling of driving a much more expensive and prestigious car.

In the cabin of the updated Volkswagen Tiguan 2018, there is enough space for a comfortable ride with three passengers, if necessary, four people can be accommodated there, but the level of convenience will be significantly limited, respectively.

But in the luggage compartment there is more than enough space for any purpose: even in the standard state, its volume is 615 liters, which is more than 50 liters more than its closest competitors in the class of budget compact crossovers. If you fold the rear row of seats, you can get a full 1655 liters.

Specifications

As befits a new generation car, the Volkswagen Tiguan in the new body of the 2018 model is equipped with engines assembled using the latest technology that provides the best dynamics with the smallest volume and optimal power. On the Russian market, copies equipped with the following power plants are available for sale:

Automatic transmissions with torque converters are not provided: either a classic 6-speed manual is available, coupled with low and medium power engines, as well as a robotic gearbox, paired with the most powerful power plants. The result of their joint work, by the way, was efficiency in terms of fuel consumption, the value of which does not exceed 8-10 liters in the combined cycle in any of the versions, as well as quite peppy acceleration dynamics: for example, a 220-horsepower gasoline Tiguan accelerates to the first hundred in just 6.3 seconds.

Depending on the price and configuration, each copy of the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan can be equipped with front-wheel drive or permanent all-wheel drive. The suspension is based on several levers and shock absorbers of medium hardness without the possibility of height adjustment.

Advantages and disadvantages

The updated Volkswagen Tiguan in the new body of the 2018 model undoubtedly managed to confirm the manufacturer's compliance with the highest quality standards: this applies to both the exterior with the interior and the technical characteristics of the car. Well, the configuration and prices of a mid-size European crossover make it the most profitable offer even against the background of more expensive and eminent competitors.

Volkswagen Tiguan. Price: not determined. On sale: from the first quarter of 2017

The interior of the new Tiguan looks much fresher, more modern and more expensive not only than its predecessor, but also some classmates that are more elite in terms of positioning

Usually, three to six months pass between the world dynamic premiere and the launch of a new car on the Russian market. This time, Volkswagen, due to many internal reasons (starting with the starting production volumes and ending with the still quite decent demand for the old Tiguan assembled in Kaluga), delayed the appearance of the new model for almost a year. In Russia, the new Tiguan will appear only in the first quarter of 2017. Moreover, it is not even clear yet where it will gather - in Europe or in Kaluga. But it is known for sure that at first two generations of Tiguan will be available on the Russian market at once: a new and cheaper, but still relevant car of the previous generation.

Obviously, the new Tiguan will be more expensive. To what extent, it is still unclear, but it is unlikely that the price delta will stay within the usual 10-12% when changing generations. This car looks painfully mature and expensive against the background of its older, smaller brother. Partly - thanks to modern - chiseled and sharper - the edges of the body, partly - due to a significant adjustment in proportions. Wolfsburg SUV has become 33 mm squat and 60 mm longer, and the wheelbase has grown immediately by 77 mm. At the same time, surprisingly and gratifyingly, the Germans managed to significantly, by 12 kg, lighten the body (despite the fact that the total weight of the base front-wheel drive Tiguan, compared to the model equipped with Euro-5 engines, decreased immediately by 53 kg), not only without loss rigidity, but even increasing it. Despite a decent lengthening of the base: +77 mm in the critical area between the A- and C-pillars, thanks to the optimized rear subframe and the cross member between the rear wheel arches, the body was made much more rigid than in the previous generation. The new Tiguan is generally full of these consumer-friendly technological contradictions with the + sign. So, despite a decent increase in the base and lightening of the body, even its torsional rigidity and that the designers managed to increase somewhat. But even more fantastic is the reduction in the Tiguan's drag coefficient to 0.32 - a 13% reduction compared to its predecessor. It is clear that this was achieved mainly by reducing the height of the car. That's just the visual perception of the new Volkswagen SUV due to the new proportions and chiseled body, which seems much more voluminous, it is difficult to believe in such metamorphoses. In fact, it was precisely this effect that the design team of Klaus Bischoff sought to achieve, guided by the motto “less is more” when developing the new Tiguan. This SUV really captivates with its elegant, expressive and, most importantly, efficient design, both outside and inside.

The interactive dashboard looks very bright!

By increasing the external dimensions and optimizing the interior space, the cabin has become 26 mm longer, and the legroom for the rear passengers has increased even more - by 29 mm at once, which allowed the Tiguan to become one of the most spacious cars in the segment in this aspect. There are really so many rear seats now that many high-end SUVs could envy such space. Moreover, which is gratifying, the expansion of space in the cabin was achieved not at all due to the volume of the luggage compartment, as sometimes happens. On the contrary, the Tiguan's 615-liter trunk has become almost a quarter more spacious, adding 145 liters at once.

There was a banal USB-input!

The interior decoration has changed no less than the exterior. The wide center console typical of crossovers, coupled with the 4Motion Active Control mode switch familiar from the Touareg, evokes direct analogies with the older SUV. However, this is only a particular. By and large, almost the entire interior of the new Tiguan, like a designer, is assembled from integrated solutions from the VW Group. So, an absolute novelty for the compact class was the interactive Active Info Display dashboard, already familiar from the Passat, with six different display design options. Such a rich “tidy” looks fantastic in a small crossover. And although some elements of the electronic system, such as a g-force sensor and sports “lap timing”, look somewhat comical in a compact SUV, on the whole, VW’s integrated approach to stuffing its cars can be considered very productive: it allows you to stuff cars of small and medium classes at no extra cost. technologies inherent in more expensive ones.

The door lock buttons are only on the left door, they are not on the passenger door

However, the complex layout of VW cars is not only about the design and brains of the car. The new Tiguan is the first SUV to be built on the VW Group MQB, a versatile modern platform. This, by the way, predetermined some genetic flaws in the model. Perhaps the main weak point of the Tiguan is the weak feedback inherent in the entire family built on the MQB platform when rutting on the highway. For Europe, with its ideal autobahns, this minus is almost imperceptible (perhaps that is why they did not pay attention to it during development), but somewhere in the left lane on the Moscow Ring Road it will come out in the blink of an eye. Longitudinal vibrations of the wheels when driving in a rut are practically not transmitted to the steering wheel, and you have to steer in a rut rather on a whim. However, we repeat, this is not a problem of this particular car, but of the platform as a whole. And besides, this is probably the only thing you can find fault with in relation to the handling of the new Tiguan. Progressive steering provides plenty of sharpness in almost any condition. Tiguan also looks good on light off-road, the 4Motion Active Control selector largely transforms the behavior and reactions of the car, and the electronic gas pedal provides the most accurate dosage of thrust. In off-road mode, the DSG shifts up a bit later than in road mode. True, the engine can only be braked in manual mode.

In combination with the new ultra-efficient 2.0 TDI diesel engine with 150 hp. With. with a torque of 340 Nm, which, along with a 180-horsepower 2-liter gasoline engine, is likely to be available in Russia from the start of sales of the new model, the Tiguan's dynamic capabilities do not cause any complaints either off-road or on the highway. Some lethargy of engine reactions begins to appear only at speeds of about 175-180 km / h, but hardly anyone will drive a compact SUV in this mode. There are other heroes for this, including in the VW lineup. But what really causes some bewilderment is the suspension, too clamped and stiff, by the standards of an urban SUV. In general, with the exception of the transmission and steering algorithm, the range of active settings for the new Tiguan is quite limited, and as far as suspension reactions are concerned, it is completely minimal.

Perhaps that is why the premiere off-road tests, arranged by the VW Group at a specially built off-road test site on the outskirts of Berlin, this time were not quite standard. It is clear that on highway tires, and even with a very stiff suspension, the new Tiguan is still a rogue, so the Germans successfully reduced the off-road part of the tests to descents and ascents on a dry hill, a series of diagonal hangings and a demonstration of 200 mm clearance. The main focus this time was on the “third eye” of the new Tiguan, which makes it the king of visibility and maneuvering both off-road and just in confined spaces. No jokes: the power supply of the crossover with cameras to improve visibility is amazing. In addition to the familiar eagle eye and 3D simulation, the virtual view system allows you to choose from more than a dozen camera algorithms, providing a perfect view in almost any maneuvering conditions: whether it's a crowded parking lot, a narrow bridge, or a steep hillside that you can also look over using the front camera. Perhaps, the visibility of the new Tiguan could be considered a reference, if it were not for the unexpected, taking into account convex mirrors, dead zones, in which a whole truck can fit when leaving the interchange on the highway. Of course, in Tiguan, in this case, there are electronic indicators of dead zones, and indeed the car’s electronic security systems, including the Front Assist distance control system with City Emergency Braking, are very progressive. But it is still preferable for the driver to see everything with his own eyes ...

However, these are all trifles, despite which the debut of the new Tiguan can be considered more than promising. The work of Bischoff and Co. will bring competitors a lot of headaches!

The change in proportions and style benefited the Tiguan. Wolfsburg crossover now looks much more voluminous. And the complex layout of VW made it possible to stuff the car with the maximum set of auxiliary electronics options.

The versatility of outdoor cameras is amazing

The driving mode selector washer evokes analogies with the Touareg. And in principle, in off-road geometric cross-country ability, the new Tiguan is not so much inferior to its older brother. Unless the off-road suspension is harsh

Verdict

Compared to the recognized leaders in the segment, the new VW Tiguan has made a fantastic leap forward in development. It looks more advantageous not only than the outdated Audi Q3, but also the recently updated BMW X1. You do not need to be a visionary to understand that we have a future bestseller in front of us.

new version Volkswagen Tiguan 2019 model year was officially presented at the end of August at the Moscow Motor Show. The “off-road” modification Offroad received its own individual features of the exterior and interior, which we will discuss below. Basically, this is the well-known second-generation Volkswagen Tiguan.

Thanks to the Russian assembly, the popular German crossover manages to occupy a strong position in its segment. In 2017, 27,666 new Tiguans were sold in the Russian Federation. For 9 months of 2018, 23,132 units have already been sold. So that the interest in the car does not fade away, the buyers decided to offer in 2019 a new Offroad package focused on off-road. The main difference of the novelty is the modified geometric cross-country ability. Another shape of the front bumper allows you to increase the angle of entry from the standard 18 to 26 degrees. But that's not all the changes to the model.

In the exterior of the Tiguan Offroad there are several distinctive design elements. For example, on standard thresholds on top of the protective plastic, there is another overlay for metal. The front bumper has a bevelled center section. And the rear bumper received an additional metal-like lining and a slightly modified shape. The special alloy wheels are painted black, as are the side mirror housings. There are black roof rails on the roof, and the roof itself is painted in the same color. An enlarged spoiler was installed on the tailgate. On the middle pillars, the manufacturer placed OFFROAD badges. In addition, this version has full LED optics.

Interior Tiguan Offroad 2019 also slightly different from the regular Tiguan. The armchairs are upholstered in wear-resistant Austin fabric combined with artificial leather. On the thresholds the inscription “Offroad” flaunts. There are special pads on the pedals, as well as rubber mats with the OFFROAD logo. The new off-road package includes a fully digital 12-inch Active Info Display as standard equipment. Otherwise, this is an ordinary all-wheel drive Tiguan. You will not be able to find differences in the operation of the transmission, they are not there. See photos of the salon in our gallery.

The trunk holds a decent 615 liters of volume, and the possibility of transforming the back of the rear seat will allow you to transport the most non-standard things. If the car has 17th discs, then under the trunk floor you can find a full-fledged spare wheel, if the 18th or 19th size, then there will be a compact “stowaway”.

Specifications Tiguan 2019

The new version of Offroad is slightly different in size. So the height due to more massive roof rails is 11 mm more, and the width of the wheelbase differs due to the installation of other wheels. As for the set of power units, OFFROAD does not have a front-wheel drive version and the weakest engine of 125 forces.

If we talk about the 2019 Tiguan in general, then there are no surprises in the technical part. Front-wheel drive and 6-speed manual is available with a 1.4 liter turbo engine with 125 hp. Front-wheel drive and a DSG6 robotic automatic are combined with the same 1.4 TSI but in a more powerful version of 150 hp.

The most powerful petrol 2.0 TSI (180 hp), 2.0 TSI (220 hp) and turbodiesel 2.0 TDI (150 hp) only work with all-wheel drive and DSG6 “robot”. Thanks to a fairly decent ground clearance of 20 cm, the crossover has good chances when operating outside the asphalt surface. Of course, it’s better not to meddle in real Russian mud, a load-bearing body and 4MOTION Active Control all-wheel drive based on an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch may not save the situation.

As an option, on versions with automatic transmission, you can install adaptive cruise control, which in fact partially acts as an autopilot. Thanks to the radar installed in the front of the body, the Crossover can maintain a set speed in the range from 0 to 160 km / h. And if necessary, the Tiguan will automatically accelerate and brake (in this case, the distance can be set manually). After overtaking, as soon as you return to your lane, the adaptive cruise control will again adhere to the previously entered speed limit and maintain the required distance.

Features Volkswagen Tiguan

The updated Volkswagen Tiguan, which was presented on September 15 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, is still a comfortable SUV, also called "". But, of course, there are a number of fairly important changes.

In particular, as can be seen from the first photos and pictures, the design of the updated Volkswagen Tiguan was inspired by American motives, which is clearly visible in the elongated body. The designers managed to make the car both more solid and more expensive, and at the same time add sharp and even aggressive features to it. This became possible due to new massive contours and new interior design.

New body Volkswagen Tiguan

In order to please its fans, Volkswagen plans to add two new body types to the new generation Tiguan, in addition to the standard one, namely:

  • Extended seven-seat body;
  • Coupe body.

In the modern version of the Volkswagen Tiguan, the trunk volume is 615 liters with the seats unfolded and 1665 liters with the seats folded down.

It should also be noted that thanks to a number of design solutions, the modern variation of this car began to weigh fifty kilograms less.

Updated platform in the Volkswagen Tiguan

In order to create a variety of body options, Volkswagen used the MQB modular platform, on the basis of which other popular models, such as the Audi A3, Skoda Octavia, and the Volksvagen Golf, have already been assembled. A significant change in the layout of the car was made possible with the help of a transverse engine. In addition, this made it possible to shift the axis of the front wheels to the bow and reduce the weight of the machine despite the increase in dimensions.

Updated salon Volkswagen Tiguan

In the 2016 model, the interior has undergone quite significant changes. In particular, such details as the steering wheel, consoles and dashboard, ventilation deflectors received an update.

A new color scheme was also used to create the interior. More brown details in different tones, imitations of wooden inserts were used, which made it possible to create a lighter and more comfortable interior. Another notable improvement was the use of a large number of chrome parts.

On some modifications of the Volkswagen Tiguan, a twelve-inch touch screen is installed instead of the standard dashboard, and the parking brake lever is replaced with an electronic system button.

As an additional option for the Volkswagen Tiguan, a stylish leather interior is available.

Economy Volkswagen Tiguan

Everyone knows that for cars such as SUVs and crossovers, a rather urgent problem is high fuel consumption. It is only natural that Volkswagen paid attention to the efficiency of the Tiguan model, which was embodied in the use of new turbocharged diesel and gasoline engines.

In order to reduce fuel consumption, the Volkswagen Tiguan uses a system that allows you to turn off two of the four cylinders at light loads. In combination with the Start-Stop system, the presence of a 50% operating mode can significantly reduce fuel consumption in the city and when driving a mixed type.

Another factor to reduce is the reduction in vehicle weight due to the use of composite materials. A hybrid version is expected in the future.

Volkswagen Tiguan Safety

This model has passed the mandatory vehicle safety testing of the European consumer protection organization Euro NCAP. According to the results of a series of crash tests, the Volkswagen Tiguan received a five-star rating and took a leading position in terms of safety among crossovers.

As standard, front and side airbags are supplied to protect the body and head, as well as belts with a force limiter and pretensioners, ISOFIX mounts on the rear side seats.
