The rear part of the car body - with stylish and beautiful marker lights (LED filling), a huge tailgate (an electric drive is offered as an option), a modest rear bumper with integrated exhaust system nozzles and an insert imitating a diffuser. The entire body along the lower edge, starting from the front bumper, wheel arches, sills, door panels, and ending with the rear part, is neatly and generously covered with plastic protection. The restyled car looks noble and expensive, as befits a large German crossover.

The interior of the SUV-crossover Volkswagen Touareg 2013 meets its four passengers and the driver with high-quality and noble finishing materials, reference ergonomics, a huge supply of space, a lot of chips responsible for comfort, entertainment and safety. It's just a shame that the bulk of the features and systems are offered as options at a high cost.
The choice of finishing materials is impressive - soft plastics embossed under the skin, decorative inserts to choose from (metallic silver, polished aluminum, walnut root, Vavona wood, Olivesche wood), seat upholstery and interior door surfaces made of fabric or leather of various grades, textures and colors ( Cricket, Vienna, Nappa).
There are five types of front seats - from simple ones with mechanical adjustment, to comfortable or sports ones with electric adjustment in 12 directions.
A dashboard with a 7-inch color screen in the center, two large and a pair of small radii, a comfortable steering wheel with height and depth adjustment, a stylish center console, a powerful floor tunnel.
In the second row of space with a margin for three passengers, separate seats are able to move along the cabin by 160 mm, the backrest changes the angle of inclination (three positions). As an option, you can order an electric folding mechanism for the rear row (control from the passenger compartment or from the trunk). The luggage compartment can accommodate from 580 liters to 1642 liters with the rear seats folded down. That's just the loading height is too big, the owners of versions of the crossover that are not equipped with air suspension will have to lift the luggage high when loading into the trunk.

Specifications new Volkswagen Tuareg 2012-2013: in Russia, the crossover is offered with three petrol and three diesel engines, as well as a hybrid power plant. The gearbox for all versions is one - an 8-speed Tiptronic automatic, the suspension is completely independent (two levers in front and wishbones in the back), as an option, air suspension - air struts with Sachs dampers that change the stiffness and three modes (Normal, Comfort and Dynamic), electromechanical power steering, disc brakes, available ESP, ABS, ASR, EDS and rear wheel steering system. Petrol engines:

  • Gasoline VR6 3.6 liters FSI (249 hp) - up to a hundred in 8.4 seconds, top speed 220 mph. Average fuel consumption of 10.9 liters.
  • VR6 3.6 liter FSI (280 hp) - up to 100 mph in 7.8 seconds, top speed 228 mph. Fuel consumption in the combined cycle is declared by the manufacturer at 9.9 liters. In real conditions, the engine needs 13-14 liters of gasoline in a combined cycle.
  • V8 4.2 liter FSI (360 hp) hurricane acceleration to a maximum speed of 245 km / h, an intermediate result for 100 km / h is 6.5 seconds. It is impossible to meet the declared passport data of 11.4 liters in the combined cycle, the owners talk about a consumption of 15-17 liters.

Diesel engines:

  • Turbodiesel V6 3.0 liter TDI (204 hp) - the weakest engine, accelerates the car to 100 km / h in 8.5 seconds and allows you to dial 202 km / h, the average consumption of diesel fuel is 7.4 liters.
  • V6 3.0 liter TDI (245 hp) - dynamics up to 100 mph in 7.8 seconds with a maximum speed of 218 mph. Diesel will please, according to the manufacturer, with an average diesel fuel consumption of 7.4 liters, in practice the consumption is slightly higher - 9-10 liters.
  • V8 4.2 liter TDI (340 hp) - catapults a heavy car to 100 mph in 5.8 seconds and accelerates to 242 mph. The manufacturer promises an average fuel consumption of 9.1 liters, but, alas, in real conditions, this diesel engine needs at least 12-13 liters with not too active movement.

The hybrid Volkswagen Touareg is driven by a power plant consisting of a V6 TSI (333 hp) and an electric motor (48 hp). Hybrid shoots up to the first hundred in 6.5 seconds and allows you to dial 240 mph, fuel consumption on the highway and in the city is almost equal - about 8.5 liters.

Test Drive Volkswagen Tuareg 2012-2013: thanks to the high-tech and perfected design by Porsche engineers (Touareg is based on the Cayenne), the crossover rides fantastically on paved roads. Minimal body roll in corners, stable behavior on a straight line, responsive steering, powerful engines, balanced suspension (elastic and comfortable) allow us to talk about the high adaptability of the Tuareg.
Off asphalt roads, the crossover will become a full-fledged SUV, but only with the advanced 4XMotion all-wheel drive system and adjustable air suspension - the cross-country ability is excellent. Versions with a simpler 4Motion system will allow you to confidently move on winter roads and light off-road. Summing up, we can say with confidence that Volkswagen once again confirms its high technical and technological level.
Cons, shortcomings, shortcomings and problems of the Tuareg, of course, are present. They can be summarized: the high price of a car and the cost of options, expensive tuning and repairs, only original (and expensive) spare parts and consumables are used, car maintenance only at certified stations. An excellent and sophisticated machine cannot be cheap, and it is not recommended to service it in the field. The high level of sales of the model suggests that the Russians understand and accept this fact.

What is the price: car dealerships offer to buy a 2012-2013 Volkswagen Tuareg in Russia for a price of 1,996,000 rubles for the initial configuration of a crossover with petrol 3.6 (249 hp). The price of a hybrid Touareg offered by official dealers soars to 3,240,000 rubles. Also for the Volkswagen Tuareg, original accessories are offered in large quantities, including branded floor mats and child seats.

The mid-size crossover Volkswagen Touareg of the second generation was released in 2010 - its first public show took place on February 10 in Munich.

This car in many ways "repeats" its predecessor, but only in its best qualities (to the credit of the German engineers - they did a great job and, when creating the second generation of the model, took into account all the "children's sores" identified during the operation of the "first Tuareg"). In addition, the car has gained a more dynamic silhouette (without losing its off-road qualities).

In the fall of 2014, the “second Tuareg” underwent an update (which consisted of minor restyling and an expansion of the list of available equipment, while the technical component remained unchanged). In Russia, the premiere of the updated crossover took place as part of MIAS'2014, and already in early 2015 it reached the "counters" of Russian dealers of the VW brand.

As already noted, the Germans did not offer a large abundance of innovations. From the “pre-styling” version, the “fresh Touareg” differs only in the design of the “front end”. New optics, a modified radiator grille and a trimmed bumper made the crossover look a little more modern, while slightly improving the aerodynamics of the body.

Restyling did not affect the dimensions in any way. The length of the Tuareg, as before, is 4795 mm (of which the wheelbase accounts for 2893 mm), the width of the body fits into the framework of 1940 mm, and the height of the crossover is 1709 mm. Ground clearance is still 201 mm (159 mm at full weight). The curb weight varies from 2097 to 2506 kg and depends on the type of configuration.

The 5-seater cabin of this car offers a decent amount of free space, the highest level of comfort and equipment, as well as an ergonomic layout of the front panel and the driver's seat, while the new trim materials that appeared as part of the restyling made the interior a little richer and brighter than before.

And its luggage compartment can accommodate up to 580 liters of cargo in the base and up to 1642 liters with the second row seats folded down.

Specifications. The range of engines remained the same as part of the restyling, but at the same time, all engines underwent a point reconfiguration and refinement, within which they received the Start / Stop system, an updated brake energy recovery system, as well as new catalytic converters for diesel versions (which reduced fuel consumption). ).

  • The youngest among the gasoline engines for the Tuareg is a V-shaped, 6-cylinder naturally aspirated engine with a displacement of 3.6 liters (3597 cm³), a 24-valve DOHC timing belt and direct fuel injection. Its upper power limit is 249 hp. at 5500 rpm, and the peak torque falls at around 360 Nm, developed at 3500 rpm. With this engine, the crossover accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 8.4 seconds, and also accelerates to a “maximum speed” of 220 km / h. Fuel consumption in this case in the combined cycle is about 10.9 liters.
  • The senior gasoline “aspirated” has 8 V-shaped cylinders with a displacement of 4.2 liters (4134 cm³), a 32-valve DOHC timing and direct fuel injection. This motor is capable of producing up to 360 hp. power at 6800 rpm and about 445 Nm of torque at 3500 rpm. The dynamic characteristics of the Touareg with this engine look even more attractive: the starting acceleration is 6.5 seconds, the maximum speed is 245 km/h. As for fuel consumption, in the combined cycle, the gasoline flagship eats up about 11.4 liters.
  • Among the diesel V-shaped power units equipped with turbocharging and common rail direct fuel injection, the 6-cylinder engine with a displacement of 3.0 liters (2967 cm³) plays a junior role, capable of producing up to 204 hp. power at 4000 rpm, as well as 400 Nm of torque in the range of 1400 - 3500 rpm. Diesel is able to accelerate the crossover from 0 to 100 km / h in 8.5 seconds or accelerate to 206 km / h of maximum speed. As part of the “restyling of 2014-2015”, the fuel consumption of the junior diesel engine decreased from 7.0 to 6.6 liters per 100 km.
  • Slightly higher in the list of diesels is a more forced version of the 3.0-liter engine, producing up to 245 hp. power at 3800 - 4400 rpm and up to 550 Nm of torque at 1750 - 2750 rpm. Volkswagen Tuareg with this engine is gaining the first 100 km / h on the speedometer in 7.6 seconds and can accelerate to 220 km / h. Restyling also made the engine a little more economical: in the combined cycle, consumption fell from 7.2 liters to 6.8 liters.
  • The top step in the line of diesel power units is occupied by an 8-cylinder "monster" with a return of 340 hp. at 4000 rpm and a torque of 800 Nm, available at 1750 - 2750 rpm. With such a motor, the crossover accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.8 seconds and can reach a top speed of 242 km/h. The average fuel consumption in this case will be about 9.1 liters.

Note that all engines on the Volkswagen Touareg are aggregated with a non-alternative 8-band Aisin automatic transmission, which has a manual shift function. We also add that this SUV is also available with a hybrid power plant (which is dedicated to a separate review).

The mid-size crossover Volkswagen Tuareg is built on a hardy platform with a fully independent spring suspension front and rear, designed on two wishbones. All crossover wheels are equipped with disc brakes with discs with a diameter of 330 mm, while the front discs are ventilated. The rack and pinion steering here is complemented by a Servotronic hydraulic booster with variable effort. In the base, all cars are equipped with a 4Motion all-wheel drive system with a Torsen center limited-slip differential, which by default distributes torque in a ratio of 40:60 in favor of the rear axle. For a surcharge, it is possible to install a full-fledged 4Xmotion off-road transmission with a demultiplier, center and rear lockable differentials, as well as an air suspension that allows you to increase ground clearance up to 300 mm.

Options and prices. The manufacturer included 17-inch alloy wheels, halogen optics, fog lights, ABS + EBD, ESP, ASR, EDS systems, fabric interior, 6 airbags, 2-zone climate control, on-board computer, power windows, side mirrors in the basic equipment of the Volkswagen Touareg electrically adjustable, heated windshield washer nozzles, rain sensor, front seats with height adjustment, adjustable rear seat, audio system with 8 speakers, central locking and dokatku.
The cost of the pre-styling version of the crossover in 2014 began at 1,838,000 rubles. The updated Volkswagen Tuareg in 2017 is offered at a price of 2,699,000 rubles.

At the end of March 2018, the German automaker showed the new Volkswagen Touareg 2018-2019 model year. The presentation of the novelty took place at a special event in China. The new generation Volkswagen Tuareg is now based on the MLB Evo “trolley”. The new VW Touareg body is partly made of aluminum, thanks to which the engineers were able to reduce the weight of the crossover by 106 kilograms.

Another innovation is the turbocharged petrol “four”, which is equipped with a hybrid Volkswagen Tuareg. Recall that earlier under the hood of the car it was possible to see only 6- and 8-cylinder power units. Externally, the new Touareg 2018-2019 resembles the Volkswagen T-Prime GTE Concept presented in 2016. The interior of the car looks no less attractive, but let's look at all the features of the novelty gradually.

The assembly of the Volkswagen Tuareg in a new body is carried out at the company's Slovak plant (the predecessors were also assembled there). The start of sales of the new generation Volkswagen Touareg is mid-2018. In Europe, the price of Tuareg 2018 will start from 53 thousand euros, and in Russia - at least 3,400,000 rubles. As soon as official information about the trim levels and cost of the car for the Russian market appears, we will update this review.

The crossover is planned to be actively sold in the Russian Federation, China, European countries and the Middle East. According to preliminary data, the VW Touareg 3 generation will not enter the US market. Overseas, buyers will be offered a seven-seat VW Atlas, as well as its five-seat counterpart, which is due to debut at the New York Auto Show.

Exterior and body dimensions

The appearance of the new crossover looks more solid and modern. Interestingly, the overall dimensions of the Volkswagen Tuareg in the new body have grown in almost all directions. So, the length of the car increased by 77 mm, the width - by 44 mm, and the wheelbase - by 1 mm. At the same time, the “third” Touareg became lower by 7 mm. The number of aluminum components in the body structure of the crossover has grown to 48%. The rest is a combination of high-strength and ultra-high-strength steel parts.

A revolution in the interior and a set of modern technologies

Outwardly, the novelty looks like a slightly modernized predecessor, the designers decided not to make any major changes. But in the cabin there have been very serious changes. Of course, the initial configurations of the Volkswagen Tuareg inside look very simple - an analog instrument panel, a multimedia system with a conventional display, climate control with a division into two zones, fabric trim, etc.

But the top versions of the new crossover, in which the latest Innovision Cockpit development is available, look simply amazing. The concept includes a 12-inch digital instrument cluster and a large 15-inch touchscreen in the center console. The latter is responsible for the operation of the information and multimedia system, as well as the control of the car's climate system (MirrorLink, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are available).



Rich configurations of the 2018 Volkswagen Touareg also received the following "chips":

  • projection screen;
  • climate control with a division into four zones with a separate control module for second-row passengers;
  • Wi-Fi router with the ability to connect 8 devices;
  • night vision camera;
  • the latest driver and front passenger seats with heating, electric adjustment, ventilation and several types of massage;
  • panoramic roof (1270x825 mm);
  • a combination of genuine leather and a quality substitute;
  • decorative inserts made of wood, chrome and aluminum;
  • LED interior lighting (30 shades).

Without exception, all modifications of the Tuareg are equipped with rear seats that can move in a horizontal plane in the range of 160 mm. They are also equipped with separate backrests with the possibility of adjusting the angle of inclination. Trunk volume is 687-810 liters, depending on the position of the rear seats. If you fold the backs of the second row, the figure increases significantly.



Motor range and characteristics

The technical characteristics of the 2018-2019 Volkswagen Touareg suggest the use of a gasoline unit, diesel engines and a hybrid power plant.

  1. Let's start with the Volkswagen Touareg hybrid with a capacity of 367 "horses" - it received a 249-horsepower petrol "four" with a volume of two liters and an electric motor.
  2. There is only one petrol version - it is equipped with a 3.0-liter TSI unit with a capacity of 340 hp and a maximum torque of 450 Nm.
  3. The diesel range is represented by three engines:
    • 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 with 231 hp (500 Nm) and its more powerful version with 286 "horses" and 600 Nm of torque;
    • 4.0-liter V-shaped "eight" with a capacity of 421 forces (900 Nm).

Diesel engines and a gasoline engine are combined with an 8-speed automatic transmission, these modifications are equipped with an all-wheel drive system. The automatic transmission mode selector is made in the style of the Audi Q7 - a small joystick replaced the traditional lever.

The vehicle is equipped with a modern adaptive cruise control, during which GPS information is taken into account. When driving at a speed within 40-70 km / h, the crossover automatically rises above the road by 25 mm, and after overcoming this range, the ground clearance returns to its original value. At speeds over 120 km / h, the clearance is reduced by 15-25 millimeters in order to improve aerodynamic performance. The steering is supplemented by an electric booster.

The car is based on the MLB Evo chassis, which also underlies the "third" Porsche Cayenne. The same platform, however, in an elongated version, is used in the production of Bentley Bentayga, Audi Q7 and. The use of this "trolley" involves the longitudinal installation of the power unit, the presence of an independent suspension of the front and rear wheels, the possibility of using springs and air suspension. There is also an all-wheel drive system, which includes a multi-plate clutch that distributes torque between the front and rear axles.

Rear wheel steering allowed for more stable movement at high speeds. If the crossover speed does not exceed 37 km / h, the rear axle wheels turn in the direction opposite to the front ones, as a result of which the turning circle has decreased by almost a meter (to 11.13 m).

The off-road performance of the third-generation Tuareg has changed significantly. The crossover lost a mechanical center differential, a rear differential lock, and a low gear (according to official figures, no more than 5% of buyers used all this). For a surcharge, buyers can access the Off-Road kit, which includes the ability to select one of several driving modes. This package also includes an enlarged fuel tank (90 liters versus the standard 75) and additional underbody protection.

The 4Motion all-wheel drive system on the Volkswagen Touareg in the new body is capable of transmitting up to 70% of traction to the wheels of the front axle and up to 80% to the rear axle. The following off-road modes are available:

  • "Sand";
  • "Snow";
  • "Grass";
  • "Auto";
  • "Expert off-road" (disabling all electronic assistants).

The restyled Volkswagen Touareg of the 2nd generation (sales start in 2014) is very close to the Porsche Cayenne in terms of technology. The basic suspension of a German SUV is formed by a front double wishbone and a rear multi-link design. Ground clearance - 201 mm. Optionally available pneumatic chassis with a closed control loop and adaptive dampers with three modes: Normal, Comfort and Dynamic. The ground clearance of the Tuareg with air suspension varies in the range of 160-300 mm. This allows fording up to 580 mm deep, while the standard chassis is designed to cross water obstacles with a maximum depth of 500 mm.

The Volkswagen Tuareg engine range in Russia includes the following gasoline and diesel units:

In Europe, the SUV also has an upgraded turbocharged V6 3.0 TDI diesel (262 hp, 580 Nm) with an exhaust gas aftertreatment system using urea injection. Such an engine ensures compliance with the requirements of the Euro-6 environmental standard.

All modifications of the Volkswagen Tuareg are equipped with an all-wheel drive system, but there are two variations of it: 4Motion and 4XMotion. A simpler 4Motion scheme includes a Torsen (40:60) asymmetrical center differential with locking capability and a classic rear differential. The “off-road” version of 4XMotion additionally provides for the presence of a reduction gear with a gear ratio of 2.69: 1 in the transfer case, and a locking mechanism in the rear differential. The 4XMotion system, together with the Terrain Tech package, which includes five modes, is designed for versions with a 245-horsepower 3.0 TDI diesel.

The SUV has only one gearbox - an 8-speed automatic Aisin AL1000 8A.
