We have an all-wheel drive Audi A5 Sportback with a 2-liter 190-horsepower diesel engine on our test. There is also a 2.0 TFSI gasoline engine in the Russian market with 190 forces with front-wheel drive or its modification with 249 forces and already all-wheel drive. For Europeans, the A5 Sportback offers 3 petrol engines and 4 diesel engines. The power range extends from 150 to 354 hp. in S5. The latest and most powerful diesel comes with all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic. All other versions drive either “on the handle” or with a seven-speed DSG automatic.

With a diesel engine, we saved money on public roads, but is such an engine suitable for active driving on a sports track?

On average, our car consumed only 6 l / 100 km of diesel fuel from a 58-liter tank, more than 7 l / 100 km did not work even with active driving.

Note that it was the Audi brand that repeatedly proved the viability of a diesel power unit in motorsport, winning the 24-hour Le Mans race. One way or another, our two-liter diesel engine in the case of the A5 Sportback produces 190 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque. In addition, such a motor is combined exclusively with quattro all-wheel drive and the S-tronic preselective “wet” robot. Of course, the power unit is equipped with turbocharging and direct injection. All this allows the A5 Sportback to accelerate from standstill to 100 km/h according to the passport in 7.4 seconds and reach a top speed of up to 235 km/h. The numbers are good, but not spectacular. So we noted that at high speeds, the diesel engine thrust is almost not enough for the track.

The elasticity of the 190-horsepower engine is very pleasant in many situations. Ride comfortably and confidently!

The all-wheel-drive Audi A5 Sportback demonstrates proper, academic neutral steering. When entering corners quickly, it slides on all four wheels. Moreover, thanks to the presence of the Audi drive Select system, which allows you to change the driving settings, the machine's reactions to the controls can be sharpened by selecting the Sport mode. In this case, the vigilance of the stabilization system will decrease, and Audi will be willing to retaliate with its tail in corners.

And on dry pavement, riders benefit from all-wheel drive with every sharp throttle - due to uniform acceleration without jerking and squeaking tires from overloaded front wheels.

As we found out on two tracks at once, in rain and hot weather, even the diesel economical Audi A5 Sportback 2017 with the S-line package got an extremely groovy character and is able to ignite and captivate an active driver. And in the aggregate it turns out that this compromise is not so bad. The sportback looks much more athletic than the A4 and even more so the A6, it rides merrily and, if necessary, will transport both people and luggage. However, in the case of a premium car, pleasure is measured not only by driving properties, but also by the quality of workmanship, finishing materials and additional options.

The 7-speed automatic also provided us with excellent support, which selected the optimal gear depending on the selected mode quickly and accurately.

The differences between them are in the form of bumpers, rims, interior touches. There is almost no difference in price. Equipment packages can change the price tag. The automaker's first offering is the S-line exterior package, which includes a sporty body kit, S-line emblems and chrome tailpipes. The price of this option is 102,456 rubles. The extended S-line package for 105,222 rubles adds R18 wheels, sports front seats, decorative inserts and emblems in the interior to everything else. The more powerful 2.0-liter 225-horsepower (350 Nm) and top-end 3.0-liter six-cylinder (272 hp and 400 Nm) engines remain the same. Paired with the latter, only a 7-speed robotic transmission is aggregated.

Diesels for the Audi A5 coupe are represented by a 2.0-liter TDI with 177 hp. (380 Nm), as well as a 3.0-liter V6, available in two versions: 204 hp (400 Nm) and 245 hp (500 Nm), the latter meeting Euro 6 environmental standards.
