The Gorky Automobile Plant launched the Sobol family of cars into production at the end of 1998. Before that, there were practically no cars of this class in Russia, and the brand was out of competition (not counting foreign analogues). Unlike the Gazelle, the Sobol has a shortened base and, accordingly, a lower carrying capacity (about 0.9 tons on average).

In total, GAZ has developed four main modifications of the small-tonnage followers of the Gazelle:

  • GAZ 2752 (3- or 7-seater all-metal van);
  • GAZ 22171 (10-seater minibus);
  • GAZ 2217 (6-seater minivan);
  • GAZ 2310 (truck with flatbed).

The Sobol brand GAZ 2752 with double-leaf rear doors and a sliding door on the side of the body (right) was adopted as the basis.

Minivan (or minibus) "Sobol Barguzin", depending on the configuration, can be 6-seater or 10-seater. First, models with a “high” roof rolled off the assembly line of the automobile plant, starting in 1999, the height of the roof was reduced by 10 cm. In the new modification, the rear door began to open from the bottom up, like on hatchback passenger cars. Since that time, the Barguzin has been considered a minivan.

Specifications 1998-2003

The first issue of 2217 was from 1998 to 2003. The minibus was produced in a 10-seater version mainly for fixed-route taxis and had a simpler configuration. The six-seater minivan has already acquired a richer finish - it is considered a commercial vehicle.

The interior of the minivan is equipped with a folding table, the middle row seats are arranged so that those sitting could communicate with each other. The chairs are soft and comfortable - passengers should experience comfort on long trips.

The only inconvenient thing is that the seats are rigidly tied to their places, and it is not possible to rearrange them at your own discretion in the cabin.

"Sable Barguzin" from the first issues could be either rear-wheel drive or with a 4x4 wheel arrangement. In the all-wheel drive version, the front axle is constantly on, the axles are driven through cardan shafts. Due to its sufficient comfort, "Barguzin" is often used for family trips out of town to nature.

GAZ 2217 (1998-2003) has the following specifications:

  • Dimensions (length / width / height) - 4.81 / 2.03 / 2.1 m;
  • The distance between the wheel axles (wheelbase) - 2.76 m;
  • Rear wheel track - 1.7 m;
  • Front wheel track - 1.69 m;
  • Carrying capacity - from 0.64 to 0.91 tons;
  • Gazelle fuel consumption per 100 km (gasoline) - 11.7 liters, for a diesel engine - 9.2 liters;
  • Fuel tank volume - 70l;
  • The maximum allowable speed is up to 145 km / h;
  • Gearbox - mechanical, five steps;
  • Front wheel suspension on the 4x2 version - spring, independent;
  • Ground clearance - 150 mm for rear-wheel drive, 205 mm for all-wheel drive;
  • The mass of a fully loaded car is 2800 kg (minivan), 2650 kg (minibus for 10 seats).

Cars of the first generation "Sobol Barguzin" have the following modifications:

  • GAZ 2217 - minivan, six passenger seats;
  • GAZ 22171 - minibus, ten passenger seats;
  • GAZ 22177 - a minivan with a 4x4 wheel formula;
  • GAZ 221717 - a minibus with all-wheel drive.

On the first generation of Barguzins, only two types of engines were installed:

  1. Diesel engine GAZ 560 (under license from STEYR MOTORS) with a capacity of 110 hp. s., volume 2.1 l.
  2. Gasoline carburetor engine ZMZ 406 with a capacity of 110 liters. s., volume 2.3 l.

Chassis, transmission, steering and braking system

As for the chassis of the Barguzin, it has the following technical characteristics:

  • Gearbox - mechanical, five-speed, all gears are synchronized (except reverse speed);
  • Transfer case (for models with all-wheel drive) - two gears, with gear ratios of 1.07 and 1.86;
  • Clutch - with one driven disc, hydraulic drive;
  • The front suspension for rear-wheel drive models is independent, double wishbones, for all-wheel drive models it is dependent, on leaf springs. On all types of suspension, a stabilizer and hydraulic shock absorbers are installed;
  • The brake system is hydraulically driven, with two separate circuits for the front and rear wheels, with a pressure regulator and a vacuum booster.
    Discs on the front axle, drums on the rear axle. Hand brake on cables, cables go to the rear wheels;
  • Steering - a mechanism of the "worm shaft - ball nut" type, gear ratio 16.6; with hydraulic power steering, the column is adjustable in angle and height;
  • Rear suspension - spring, with stabilizer and hydraulic shock absorbers;
  • Main gear (rear axle) - hypoid type, gear ratio 4.556 for the 4x2 model, gear ratio 5.125 for the 4x4 model.

Design

Minibus GAZ-2217 has the following overall dimensions:

  • Length - 4.8 / 4.9 m;
  • Width - 2.1 m;
  • Height - 2.1 / 2.2 m;
  • Wheelbase - 2.8 m;
  • Wheel formula - 4x2 / 4x4;
  • Capacity - 6+1 / 10+1;
  • Clearance - 15 / 19 cm;
  • The volume of the power unit - 2.89 l;
  • Power plant power - 107 / 120 horsepower;
  • Maximum speed - 120 / 130 km / h.

During the production of the car, several types of engines were used. In 1998, ZMZ engines (402, 406.3 and 406) were installed on the car. Their characteristics differed only in the number of valves. A diesel version of the GAZ-5601 was also offered. In 2003, engineers carried out modernization, after which an injection power unit for 140 horsepower and a turbodiesel from the Gorky Automobile Plant "5601" were used in production. In 2008, the device was supplemented with the Chrysler DOHC 2.4L power plant, which developed up to 137 horsepower. The diesel engine 5601 was changed to 5602. In 2009, they came to the final version: gasoline UMZ-4216.10 and turbodiesel Cummis ISF 2.8L.

The latest generation engine has four cylinders. There are 2 valves per cylinder. In the case of the diesel version, there are 4 valves per cylinder. The working volume is 2.89 or 2.781 liters. The maximum power is 107 (at 4 thousand revolutions) or 120 (at 3.2 thousand revolutions) horsepower.

There is also a version with all-wheel drive, designed for rural areas, where off-road is not uncommon. The scheme of this option includes a single-lever transfer case. A power steering is also provided to improve handling. In some modifications, the driver can turn off one bridge.

The clutch includes one disc and is dry type. The drive is carried out by a hydraulic mechanism. The manual transmission has six steps: five forward and one reverse.

Wishbones form the basis of the front independent suspension. The designers added anti-roll bars to its device. The rear dependent suspension is based on two longitudinal semi-elliptical springs.

When buying, you can choose additional features, which include a multifunction steering wheel, air conditioning, power windows and electric adjustment of the side mirrors. For diesel options, cruise control is provided.

The interior of the car is comfortable, but simple. At the disposal of the driver - a four-spoke steering wheel, gear lever, dashboard with system indicators. Medium quality materials are used for interior trim, they serve for many years. The seats are upholstered in fabric. Airbags are not provided, the ABS system is included in the basic package. There are two versions - with a low and high roof. This does not affect the equipment of the cabin.

The main differences between "Barguzin" and "Gazelle"

It is believed that the Sobol is a more compact version of the Gazelle, and this is true. Although the Sobol is a machine of a completely different class, the models have a lot in common - the same components and assemblies, appearance, interior and body elements. When comparing models, it is better to consider the main differences. And the main differences of "Sable" are as follows:

  • One wheel is installed on the rear axle (on the Gazelle there is a gable tire);
  • The carrying capacity is approximately one and a half times less;
  • The wheelbase is 140 mm shorter;
  • Unlike springs, the Gazelle has a front spring suspension (4x2 version);
  • More compact cabin of increased comfort;
  • Short frame of own design;
  • Other brake drums;
  • The diameter of the brake discs has been increased by 15 mm;
  • Installed other springs on the rear suspension.

A big plus of the front suspension on the Barguzin is that it does not have pivots. Ball bearings are installed instead.

Modifications

There were quite a lot of modifications of the Barguzin for the entire time of its release. It should be noted that the minivan has undergone deep restyling twice. The first generation of 2217 cars was produced from 1998 to 2003. Then the second series of "Sable" began, which was produced until 2010. Unlike the previous model, it has the following changes:

  • Rectangular headlights were changed to teardrop-shaped headlights;
  • The shape of the hood has changed;
  • An improved instrument panel appeared in the cabin;
  • The range of engines installed on the machine has noticeably expanded.

The next time the restyling took place in 2010, when the entire Gazelle family received an improved package and became known as the Gazelle Business. The degree of comfort has also increased with the GAZ 2217 brand, the car has acquired the name "Barguzin Business".

This time the car received:

  • Updated front bumper, which began to be attached to the cab, and not to the frame;
  • Eight available body colors;
  • German instrument panel;
  • Improved interior lighting;
  • Improved stove heating;
  • Adjustable steering column;
  • Imported clutch from ZF Sachs.

Models 2003-2010

In 2003, Sobol Barguzin underwent a major upgrade. In addition to the modified headlights and hood, interior improvements, the range of engines installed on the car has changed. A turbocharged GAZ-5601 (95 hp), an injection ZMZ 405 was added to the lineup.

The side mirrors have also changed - they have become more voluminous.

"Barguzin business"

Sobol Barguzin, unlike the Gazelle, is more suitable for business trips or as a family car. To a large extent, comfort depends on the thoughtful interior decoration. All the details of the interior of the car are well worked out in the model of the next generation of Sobol - GAZ 2217 Barguzin Business.

The appearance and location of the seat in the modification Barguzin business

On the road, the new model is easily recognizable by its redesigned front bumper and grille cladding. In the cabin, the instrument panel, audio system, air conditioning and heating system have changed. The stove is now controlled by an electronic unit.

The steering wheel has taken on a different shape, and has become more pleasant to the touch. Installed other turn signal and wiper switches. On the new brand, they began to use an imported clutch - due to this, the speeds are now switched easier, and the clutch pedal is noticeably softer. For the new Sobol Barguzin, the plant gives a guarantee of 80 thousand kilometers or two years, the interval between maintenance has increased to 15 thousand km.

The new model is also equipped with two types of engines - a 2.9-liter UMZ-4216 gasoline engine and a promising Cummins turbocharged diesel engine (2.8 liters).

Specifications Cummins ISF2.8s3129T:

  • Engine type - diesel, turbocharged;
  • Cooling - liquid;
  • Number of cylinders - 4;
  • The location of the cylinders is in-line;
  • Power - 120 liters. With.;
  • Compression ratio - 16.5;
  • Fuel consumption at a speed of 60 km / h - 8.5 l;
  • Fuel consumption at a speed of 80 km / h - 10.3 l;
  • Piston diameter - 94 mm;
  • Piston stroke - 100 mm;
  • Cylinder volume - 2.8 l;
  • Ecology class - Euro-3 or Euro-4.

The diesel engine for the Gazelle is very reliable and has a resource of about 500 thousand kilometers before a major overhaul. The diesel engine at Barguzin Business has the following filling capacities:

  • Engine oil in the crankcase - 5 l;
  • Oil in the oil filter - 0.44 l;
  • Liquid in the cooling system - 6 l;
  • Between the marks on the probe max and min - 1 l.

Disadvantages and advantages

The quality of the factory assembly of the GAZ-2217 Barguzin is at an average level. There are cases when parts are poorly screwed, there are not enough bolts, etc.

The first significant "sores" make themselves felt 4-5 years after the start of operation and lie in the box and transfer case, front axle and power steering hose. They appear after the first 40-50 thousand kilometers, happen in a different order. The first comprehensive diagnosis is recommended after 90-100 thousand kilometers.

The scheme of the machine is simple, so there are no special problems with repairs. Spare parts can be easily found in specialized stores. It is necessary to clearly know the catalog numbers of parts, since in different years of production they differ in size. The large windshield provides good visibility for the driver.

The main advantage of the GAZ-2217 car, because of which it is in demand, is its quick commercial payback. If you use the car as a fixed-route taxi, then you can work out the cost for 100 thousand kilometers. Upon reaching 200 thousand mileage, experienced owners recommend selling equipment if it is still in working order. By this milestone, there are no “native” parts in its design, except for the frame, body, engine and power steering (in rare cases).

Driving performance

Choosing a car is a very difficult task. The car range of minibuses is very diverse. However, today there are so many similar models of different cars that not everyone can qualitatively distinguish even a barguzin from a sable. The task is further complicated by their great external similarity. So what is the difference between sable and barguzin? More on this later.

What is "Barguzin"?

Barguzin is comfortable minibus. This modification is convenient in management and maintenance. Convenience is expressed in an independent front suspension, especially in the city. The salon is designed in such a way as to comfortably carry passengers and negotiate, arrange business meetings or just work in the car. For this, a special table is provided in the cabin, at which you can both work and relax. Barguzin can be an excellent choice for a large family for out-of-town vacation trips.

The car was originally planned by the designers as a minivan. The roof was slightly lowered in comparison with its predecessor "Sable". Landing also became lower. The driver's seat is quite ergonomic, comfortable steering wheel. In the cabin itself, the seats are located “face to face”. When talking, it is very convenient. The seats themselves are tightly welded, which simply eliminates the alteration of the cabin.

High landing has its advantages - driver has excellent visibility in all directions. You can park on your own even in the city. Modifications are available with both petrol and diesel engines.

Most often, such cars are used by organizations of various activities to receive and transport customers or arrange business trips. The salon is equipped with seats with comfortable headrests and armrests, which, although not a necessity, however, create increased comfort when moving. All this is Barguzin.

What is "Sobol"?

Sable is a workhorse. If in a nutshell. Here, less comfortable conditions for passengers - everything is simple and functional. The car is good for short distance transportation of passengers. Most often used to connect the city with the settlements of the region. The cabin has 10 seats and good sound insulation. For more comfortable transportation in the hot summer time, a ventilation hatch on the roof is provided. Also, the side windows slide comfortably for better ventilation. The rear doors are great for loading luggage.

The model itself was originally developed as a substitute for the usual "loaf", but only with a different design and improved performance. The car passed the cross-country ability test in several foreign races and even showed good results on summer tires.

Low gear cardan shafts with CV joints will help you get off many hills and ravines, and the power steering makes driving easy and comfortable. The angle of the steering wheel can also be adjusted to your liking.
In terms of external dimensions, the Sobol is quite suitable for the city: it is no more than a business class sedan in length. True, the width is slightly larger than a passenger car. However, this does not prevent him from maneuvering in a car stream - a wide view is provided by a high seating position and a rear-view mirror.

They produce a car with gasoline and diesel engines. The maximum speed is 120 km/h. Due to the fact that the designers equipped the car with a separate transmission and gearbox, and the engine was installed longitudinally. This made it possible to achieve a simple all-wheel drive scheme.

In service, Sable is unpretentious. Driving is quite comfortable. The car copes well with moderate off-road and rough roads.

What are the main differences between Sobol and Barguzin?

To summarize, the differences between the two models can be summed up in the following points:

  1. Equipment. Both "Sobol" and "Barguzin" have a choice of both diesel and gasoline. However, the former is more common in all-wheel drive, while the latter is not. Also, the Barguzin has an independent front suspension, while the Sobol has both dependent ones.
  2. Appearance. From the outside, both cars are very similar. A distinctive feature is the different structure of the rear doors and the painting of the side windows of the rear view - for the Barguzin they are the same color as the car, for the Sobol they are black. Also, the Barguzin mirrors are equipped with heating and airflow.
  3. Salon. Salon "Barguzin" is not subject to alteration, because the seats are located "face to face" and are tightly welded. Salon "Sable" is more familiar - here the seats go one after another and the number of seats is larger. However, Barguzin has a table in the salon.
  4. under the hood. Dealers often offer Barguzin with a gasoline engine of 123 or 133 horses. Modifications of the Sobol with a diesel counterpart are much easier to find.
  5. Controllability. On the road, both cars develop up to 120 km / h, but the handling of the Barguzin is better.
  6. Price. The cost of the car is significantly lower than its analogues of foreign production. Moreover, both "Sable" and "Barguzin". However, in maintenance, Sobol is cheaper.

It is believed that there are no minivans in our country, and there never were. Automakers were completely sure that there was no special need for cars of this class. However, the situation has changed dramatically in the last few years. Then there was demand. And now they began to produce the GAZ Barguzin 4x4 car.

Let's see what kind of car it is, consider the technical specifications, as well as owner reviews.

Story

At the end of 1998, the production of Sobol cars was mastered at the Gorky Plant. These cars were produced on the basis of the GAZelles. It differed from the popular Sobol model by a shorter wheelbase, independent front suspension, and was also designed for a load capacity of up to 900 kg.

The Sobol lineup is minibuses or Sobol Barguzin and the GAZ 2752 van. In 1999, factories began to produce model 2217 with a low roof. Here, the designers managed to lower it by 100 mm, and also install a rear liftgate. In this configuration, the car became a minivan.

In honor of the winds

It is worth saying that Sobol Barguzin is a modification of the GAZ 22171 minibus. The car got its name in honor of the powerful winds that blow on Lake Baikal. Compared to the basic version, it turned out to be more comfortable. The machine has good handling and stability. "Barguzin" 4x4 has an index of 22171 and is equipped. Designed for passenger transportation in particularly difficult road conditions. They buy this car to work on rural roads, as well as for tourism and country recreation.

Complete set

In general, the generation of these cars is quite controversial. According to official dealers, all-wheel drive cars of the Barguzin 4x4 model (Gaz 22177, GAZ 22171) are offered to consumers. However, all the same dealers claim that there are regular versions, as well as, in addition, more than 10 different configurations. Here you can get confused. There is a visual difference between all-wheel drive cars - this is the height of the body. For all-wheel drive minivans, it is 2200 mm, while conventional ones have a height of 2100 mm.

Appearance

As for the exterior, many people like it. The external data of these minibuses (or minivans) is quite pleasant. The design of the second generation of cars, which have been produced since 2003, is distinguished by new large, as if slanting headlights, an updated radiator grille. So, the body looks quite modern. Plus here are the new side mirrors, which are now painted in the same way as the body. Mirrors are equipped with a drive and heating.

But the back door is a bit disappointing. There was no provision for heating or glass cleaner. Therefore, if you drive in dirty conditions, then the view through it is very difficult. Drivers also don't respond well to the side door. For it to work properly, it needs to be lubricated frequently, as well as frequently adjusted.

Salon

According to the interior, we can say that it resembles a small room. For its size, the volume of the cabin is quite a decent space. As for the driver's seat, it is very comfortable and quite ergonomic, like many domestic cars.

In the interior of the car, everything is quite consistent with the time. Everything is modern, functional, all controls work as expected and intended. True, the steering wheel remained old, two-spoke. Although many consider the three-spoke design to be more convenient. All buttons, levers, devices do not cause negative, it is most convenient to use them.

Instruments are now under a semicircular visor. The torpedo received smooth lines. But at the same time, plastic in the second generation did not get better, it remained the same cheap, with gaps.

However, it must be said that the interior of the car has good sound insulation. A novelty according to these parameters can be added to the "luxury" list. The seats have been improved. Some of the chairs are equipped with armrests. In some configurations there is a folding table. Near it, the seats are arranged according to the "coupe" type. The seats are installed tightly, so redevelopment is impossible in principle.

"Barguzin" 4x4 - specifications

Cars, depending on the configuration, may have a ZMZ 406 gasoline engine with 123 horsepower, or the same Chrysler gasoline engine with 133 horsepower. Fuel consumption for both engines is almost the same, according to the documentation it will be about 12 l / 100 km. Sometimes sellers offer such "Sables" with diesel engines.

The gearbox is the simplest, mechanical, five-speed. As for the all-wheel drive car "Barguzin" 4x4, here the engineers used a single-lever transfer case GAZ 2307.

Brakes hydraulic with the vacuum double-circuit amplifier. The system is equipped with a brake fluid level drop sensor, and it is also possible to regulate the pressure in the system.

The steering is done in the same way as in all other cars from GAZ. The "screw-ball nut" system has a hydraulic booster.

Spring suspension for all-terrain equipment, and front-wheel drive versions are equipped with a front double wishbone spring suspension, and rear - spring. Judging by the reviews of many drivers, the car suffers from problems with the front suspension. Car owners claim that the hub nut is overtightened. That's why it breaks often.

Also, motorists write that the suspension can easily cover more than 300 thousand km. Good moments are maneuverability, visibility, patency on the ground.

How does it ride?

The owners in their reviews note that the minibus has a fairly high seating position, excellent visibility. Powerful motors guarantee that even among passenger cars the car will be on the level. First you need to get used to the controls. Even the slightest movement of the steering wheel turns on the power steering, and he, in turn, immediately turns the wheels. The front shock absorbers are somewhat weak, the front part sways on bumps. The rear springs are not soft enough, so on our roads the rear part throws up.

Long journeys are not particularly suitable for the Barguzin 4x4 car. The maximum declared speed is only 120 km / h. Drivers say that even at 110 km / h, driving is no longer very comfortable, and fuel consumption is also growing.

However, the situation changes dramatically when the roads end. Here, off-road, you can fully open and learn this car in a new way. All-wheel drive Gorky minivan is a real SUV. According to the characteristics of the car "Barguzin" 4x4, the photo of which you can see below, is almost as good as the cars of the Ulyanovsk plant.

This car performed on the Silk Road track. There, the minivan more than once pulled combat SUVs out of the mud, which were simply tied up tightly. The car pulls in all conditions. However, don't get too caught up in the mud. The car can get stuck in a rut from trucks, and it's not always possible to find a tractor.

Price policy

What is the cost of a minivan "Barguzin" 4x4? The price is another one of this SUV. A new all-wheel drive car in the basic configuration can be purchased in the region of 500,000 rubles. A used car at the age of five can cost about 200 thousand.

So, we found out what this minibus has technical characteristics, design and price. As you can see, the Barguzin is an excellent and inexpensive alternative to modern foreign cars such as Mercedes Vito and Volkswagen Transporter, and besides, all-wheel drive.

The GAZ-2217 minibus of the second generation is a multifunctional passenger car produced since 2010. The minibus received several interior design options and is distinguished by high maneuverability in city traffic, as well as high-quality adaptation to Russian climatic conditions and a fairly low cost of maintenance, which allows the use of GAZ-2217 cars, depending on the version, both as a service minibus and in as a family car.

GAZ-2217 is built on the basis of an all-metal van, but at the same time it received circular glazing and a ventilation hatch already in the basic configuration. The appearance of the minibus is maximally unified with the van, which can significantly reduce the cost of production or repair of body elements.
Like the van, the second-generation minibus received a new bumper and a radiator grille integrated into it, as well as stylish teardrop-shaped head optics.

Minibus "Sobol-Business" GAZ-2217 has several options for interior layout. The basic version (minivan) received a 7-seater (including the driver) version of the "coupe", which in modifications 2217-244 and 22171-344 is supplemented by a folding table located in front of the rear row of seats.

In the “passenger minibus” version, the GAZ-2217 is equipped with an 11-seat saloon (modifications 2217-5244, 22171-5344, etc.) with seats located in the direction of the car.

Access to the passenger compartment is through a sliding door located on the right side of the minibus. In addition, you can get into the salon through the rear swing doors.

The rear row of GAZ-2217 seats can be easily removed, allowing you to carry a small amount of cargo. In addition, we note that the salon can have both a standard (low) roof (modifications 22177-344, 22177-5244, 22177-5345, etc.) and an enlarged (medium) roof (modifications 221717-344, 221717-245 , 221717-5345 etc.).

The wheelbase of the Sobol-Business minibus GAZ-2217 is 2760 mm, and the overall length is 4810 mm. The manufacturer assigned 1030 mm to the front overhang, and 1020 mm to the rear. The width of the minibus does not exceed 2075 mm along the body and 2380 mm including side mirrors. The overall height in the version with a low roof of the cabin is 2100 mm, in the modification with an enlarged roof - 2200 mm. The ground clearance of the minibus is 150 mm (for all-wheel drive versions 205 mm).

The curb weight of the car, depending on the configuration, type of interior and engine, varies from 2050 to 2260 kg. Gross weight, in turn, varies in the range of 2595 - 3040 kg.

The Sobol-Business minibus GAZ-2217 is driven by a gasoline or diesel power unit. Both available motors fully fit into the Euro-4 environmental standard and have 4 in-line cylinders.

  • The gasoline engine of the UMZ-4216.70 brand received a working volume of 2.89 liters, a power of 107 hp. at 4000 rpm, as well as 220.5 Nm of torque already developed at 2500 rpm. Depending on the design and configuration of the minibus, the average fuel consumption of a gasoline unit is about 10.0 - 12.5 liters per 100 km. A gasoline engine is installed on modifications 2217-244, 2217-5244, 22171-244, 22177-244, 22177-245, 22177-5245, etc.
  • The Cummins ISF 2.8l diesel unit has a displacement of 2.8 liters, common rail direct fuel injection and a turbocharging system with intercooling of aftercooled air. Its power reaches 120 hp. at 3200 rpm, and the upper torque limit is 297 Nm (1600 - 2700 rpm), while the diesel engine is very economical: 6.6 - 10.2 liters per 100 km, depending on the type of drive and equipment. The Cummins engine is used on modifications 2217-344, 22171-344, 22171-5344, 22177-345, 22177-5344, etc.

All engines of the GAZ-2217 minibus are aggregated with a 5-speed synchronized manual transmission connected to the engine via a Sachs dry single-plate clutch.

We add that in the all-wheel drive versions of the minibus (modifications 221717-244, 221717-345, 221717-5245, etc.), an interaxle locking differential and a 2-speed transfer case with a downshift function are used.

The Sobol-Business GAZ-2217 passenger minibus was created on the same frame platform as the GAZ-2752 van. This means that the front of the minibus received an independent double-lever suspension with gas-filled double-acting telescopic shock absorbers, as well as an anti-roll bar. The rear part of the body of the minibus is supported by a dependent spring suspension with the same gas-filled telescopic shock absorbers and an anti-roll bar.
The braking system of the Sobol-Business GAZ-2217 minibus received two circuits, a hydraulic drive and an ABS system. On the front wheels, the manufacturer uses reinforced disc brakes, on the rear wheels, simple drum brakes are installed. The parking brake of the minibus has a classic cable drive. The steering of the car is built according to the "screw - ball nut" scheme and is already in the base supplemented by an integrated ZF Lenksysteme power steering.

Prices. The standard equipment of the minibus includes 16-inch steel wheels, halogen optics, heated and electrically adjustable side mirrors, a ventilation hatch, interior heater and audio preparation. As an option, the minibus can be equipped with air conditioning, fog lights, additional noise insulation, a roof rack, power windows and a CD-audio system with USB support.
The cost of the Sobol-Business minibus GAZ-2217 in 2017 starts at 850,000 rubles (an all-wheel drive modification will cost at least 875,000 rubles).

In the USSR, there were simply no minivans, as well as a special need for them. But years later, the domestic auto industry showed itself in this previously unknown class of cars. The first Russian minivan was the VAZ-2120 Nadezhda, the second was the GAZ-2217 Sobol-Barguzin. Hopes for the first of these models did not materialize, but the GAZ-2217 found its customers. Despite the fact that he traces his lineage from a cargo van, it can only be called a minivan with a stretch: it is a cross between a full-fledged minibus and a minivan.

Differences GAZ-2217 from the usual "Sobol"

The designers of the Gorky Automobile Plant GAZ-2217 "Sobol-Barguzin" was conceived as a formally passenger car-minivan - with a lower roof than the usual "Sobol", a lifting rear door and an independent front. The salon for seven, in addition to the driver's seat, is equipped with wider and more comfortable seats than in the Sobol, equipped with armrests. There is also a table in the cabin, which, unfortunately, soon becomes very squeaky while driving. To drive this car, a driver's license with an open "passenger" category "B" is also sufficient.

What other differences from the original model - a minibus - does Barguzin have? There are few of them. Pseudo-chrome lining, low roof, lowered driver's seat, and plastic door sills - that's actually the whole "ceremonial suit" that turns a cargo van and a minibus into a "luxury" minivan. Nevertheless, it should be noted that if the usual "Sable" with a high roof looks a little "chest", then the "Barguzin" is much more proportional.

A little about the history of the model. GAZ-2217 modern era

The GAZ-2217 model has been in serial production at the Gorky Automobile Plant since the spring of 1999. A certain number of cars were also produced in an all-wheel drive version - the Sobol Barguzin minivan with a 4 × 4 wheel arrangement, modification GAZ-22177. Previously, there was also a modification of the "Barguzin" in the "luxury" version of the interior trim (from better and more expensive materials). It was called "Riviera". Together with the entire numerous Gazelevsko-Sobolevsky family, the GAZ-2217 survived restylings in 2003 and 2010. Since 2010, it has been published without a prefix to the name "Barguzin" - under the name "Sobol Business".

There are five modern modifications of the GAZ "minibus-minivan" with a low roof:

  • GAZ-2217-744- with a 4x2 wheel formula, a UMZ-A274 Evotech gasoline engine;
  • GAZ-2217-344- with a 4x2 wheel arrangement, Cummins ISF 2.8L diesel engine;
  • GAZ-22177-743- with a 4x4 wheel formula, a UMZ-A274 Evotech gasoline engine;
  • GAZ-22177-343- with 4x4 wheel arrangement, Cummins ISF 2.8L diesel engine.

Modern GAZ-2217 has a large number of foreign-made components. In particular, ZF power steering, Sachs shock absorbers and clutch, Bosch brakes, Anvis engine mounts (Germany), a modern instrument panel from EDAG, Hoerbiger gearbox synchronizers (all of these manufacturers – Germany); T-Rad radiator (Japan), Tirsan Kardan cardan (Turkey), SKF bearings (Sweden).

GAZ-2217 engines

GAZ-2217 of the first generation (until 2003) were equipped with ZMZ-402 carburetor engines with a volume of 2.5 liters, 8-valve, power 100 hp. and ZMZ-406.3 with a volume of 2.5 liters, 16 valves, power 110 hp. As well as an injection 16-valve ZMZ-406 with a volume of 2.3 liters, 110 horsepower.

In 2003-2009, injection engines ZMZ-40522.10 (2.5 liters 16 cells, 140 hp) were installed on the GAZ-2217; ZMZ 40524.10 (2.5 l, 140 hp); UMZ-42164 (2.89 l, 78.5 hp) and Chrysler DOHC 2.4L (2.4 l, 137 hp). Chrysler engines were intended only for luxury versions of the car (for the Rivière).

Since 2010, minivans-minibuses with a low roof GAZ-2217 have received 2 types of power units standard for all Sobolevsky brothers: a four-cylinder injection UMZ-A274 Evotech and a four-cylinder turbocharged diesel Cummins ISF 2.8L.

  • UMZ-A274 Evotech: working volume - 2.69 l; rated net power according to GOST R 41.85 - 78.5 kW (106.8 hp), cylinder diameter - 96.5 mm, piston stroke - 92 mm. Environmental standard - Euro-4.
  • Cummins ISF 2.8L: working volume - 2.8 l; rated power, net: 88.3 kW hp (120 hp), cylinder diameter - 94 mm, piston stroke - 100 mm. Environmental standard - Euro-4.

Transmission, chassis and suspension GAZ-2217

There are no gearbox options yet: this is a five-speed manual gearbox common to the entire Sobol family, synchronized. It is also connected to the engines by a standard friction clutch of a dry design, with a hydraulic control drive. Previously, the clutch was made domestically, and in modern versions of the GAZ-2217 - from the German company Sachs.

All-wheel drive vehicles GAZ-22177, GAZ-22177-343, GAZ-22177-743 are additionally equipped with a lockable center differential and a two-speed transfer case with a reduction gear.

GAZ-2217 cars are built on the basis of a frame chassis. At the front, they are equipped with an independent two-link spring suspension with gas-filled shock absorbers and an anti-roll bar. A dependent spring suspension is installed at the rear; on 2 longitudinal semi-elliptic springs, with hydraulic telescopic shock absorbers of two-sided action.

  • Length - 4.81 m, width - 2.03 m, height - 2.1 m;
  • Wheelbase - 2.76 m;
  • Track, the same for the front and rear wheels - 1.7 m;
  • Ground clearance - from 150 mm (4x2) to 260 mm (for all-wheel drive);
  • The curb weight of the car is 2055 kg;
  • Gross weight - from 2800 to 3000 kg, depending on the modification;
  • With a Cummins ISF2.8L diesel engine, the curb weight is 2245 kg;
  • Regular recommended load capacity - from 505 to 635 kg;
  • Maximum speed - 120 km / h, acceleration to 100 km / h - 23 seconds;
  • Fuel tank capacity - 64 or 70 liters, depending on the configuration;

  • Manufacturer's warranty - 2 years, or 80 thousand kilometers. Recommended maintenance is every 15 thousand kilometers.

Cabin and salon GAZ-2217

In terms of passenger and cargo capacity, the Barguzin, for obvious reasons, will give odds to any, the most spacious minivan - the cargo origin affects. Despite its short length, the GAZ-2217 is quite capable of carrying not seven, but ten, and even more passengers: its internal width easily allows four seats to be installed in a row. However, to increase comfort - after all, this is a "luxury" version of the "Sable" - the interior was equipped like a "coupe": wider and more comfortable "Volgov" seats with armrests are installed here, and only three of these seats fit in a row.

Unlike the standard for both minivans and minibuses of a similar type of layout (seats one behind the other), in the GAZ-2217 compartment, the front seats are “back to front” “facing” to the rear.

Salon "Barguzin" - the size of a small room: length 2.5 m, width 1.8 m, height 1.33 m. You can easily move from place to place, bending down. In the middle is a reclining table equipped with a regular lamp. Velor upholstery on all versions looks very dignified in the GAZ-2217 cabin, and you can isolate yourself from the world with special curtains if you want to relax.

In the cockpit, instead of the standard double “sofa”, a single wide seat with folding armrests is placed to the right of the driver. In any place (both passenger and driver's) a person of even the most impressive, “heroic” build can easily and easily accommodate, and moreover, it will not be particularly convenient for a driver below 170 centimeters tall to drive the GAZ-2217.

But the transformation of the cabin was not initially thought out. The only possible layout (seats "face to face") is laid down by the manufacturer with no options. It is impossible to change it by moving the seats, as in "bourgeois" minivans - they are permanently attached to the floor.

For the sake of the mythical "negotiations" of an imaginary "businessman", one has to put up with trips "back to front" (in the middle row of seats). And, if for ten to fifteen minutes of an intracity trip this does not cause any inconvenience, then for several hours on a suburban highway it is already completely unnatural. In addition, the seat backs of the third row were deprived of tilt adjustments - also a necessary feature on a many-hour long-distance trip.

The cabin is separated from the main cabin by a high partition. Therefore, you can only go from the front seats to the salon along the street. Although there is enough space here to make a passage.

But! In modern versions of the GAZ-2217, these shortcomings have been eliminated. The salon received considerable opportunities for transformation. It's easy to fold down the seat cushions and get over 3.5 extra cubic meters of luggage space. It is possible not only to recline the backs, but also to expand the seats completely, getting a wide “bed”. It also became possible to enter the salon without going outside.

GAZ Sobol 2217 is a Russian-made light-duty vehicle used mainly in the commercial sector. Its design was created with the expectation of movement on Russian roads, so businessmen willingly use this car for transportation. Comfortable, maneuverable, multifunctional - only a small part of the feedback from the owners. "Sable" is also used in government agencies, emergency and public services.

Universal machine

GAZ-2217 Barguzin is used to transport passengers. Two options are available to the buyer: for 6 seats and 10. All residents of Russia know this car as a yellow fixed-route taxi. The machine can serve as a mobile office, this is facilitated by the convenient location of the seats, the presence of armrests, headrests and a folding table with individual lighting. The layout of the cabin allows you to install additional seats to increase the maximum number of passengers.

According to its technical characteristics, GAZ-2217 is not inferior to foreign competitors in this class. The small size of the car allows the driver to move comfortably along the streets and courtyards of large cities and park in tight parking lots.

This machine is not limited to basic versions. The owner can install one of the many superstructures or a cargo van. The manufacturer offers consumers flatbed minibuses with different frame options.

Design

Minibus GAZ-2217 has the following technical characteristics:

  • Length - 4.8 / 4.9 m;
  • Width - 2.1 m;
  • Height - 2.1 / 2.2 m;
  • Wheelbase - 2.8 m;
  • Wheel formula - 4x2 / 4x4;
  • Capacity - 6+1 / 10+1;
  • Clearance - 15 / 19 cm;
  • The volume of the power unit - 2.89 l;
  • Power plant power - 107 / 120 horsepower;

Conclusion

GAZ-2217 Sable and Barguzin is a good car that is worth the money. The whole family turned out to be successful and sold in millions of series throughout Russia and abroad.

The new GAZ-2217 costs 650-800 thousand rubles. The final cost depends on the configuration and selected additional features. To the delight of buyers - power steering is included in the basic equipment.

/ CHOOSE WISELY

"BARGUSINA" I BOUGHT - LIFE DOES NOT TEACH ME...

MAYBE A BUS?

TEXT / YURI NECHETOV

PHOTO / ALEXANDER POLUNIN

The choice even among the available domestic models today is very diverse. Which one do you prefer? I propose, perhaps unexpected, but not devoid of worldly logic, an answer - or rather, my own version of the answer.

From early childhood I was attracted by cars and roads. Probably, it was necessary to become a trucker, but fate turned out differently - nevertheless, he did not lose his gypsy craving for travel. Overgrown with a family, various hobbies appeared - an ordinary passenger car became small. Imagine this picture: a "nine" with five passengers, a windsurfer on the roof, a trailer with sleeping tents, topped with a huge doghouse, in the back! Even the station wagon will not help out - three children, no matter how angels they are, will inevitably fight in the back seat due to crowding.

Maybe a minivan? But I would probably “change” the all-wheel drive transmission of the only available VAZ “Nadezhda” for an even larger interior. And if the seven-seater "Barguzin" GAZ 2217 (ЗР, 1999, No. 10)? Let this be a minibus - I need one like that! In terms of size and maneuverability, it almost does not differ from the Volga. With a height of 2100 mm, not every garage will enter, but I was lucky - the gate turned out to be with a margin. It is quite nice on the outside and less than other "sables", it looks like a bus or a truck - it is not shameful to bring children to the circus on it, to take your wife to the store, to go on business yourself. Every day, wandering around in such a “chest” to work is perhaps too much - well, not everyone needs it.

PRODUCT FACE

I laid eyes on the most affordable modification of the GAZ 2217 -104 with a ZMZ-406 carburetor engine. Prices for it in Nizhny Novgorod start at 205 thousand rubles, in the capital - ten thousand more. There is also a GAZ 2217 -304 for 260 thousand with a GAZ-560 turbodiesel, but this choice is justified only by intensive operation - I can only cover the difference in price by retirement.

According to the factory classification, GAZ 2217 is a luxury minibus. There is only one package: a plastic protective apron on the bottom of the body, fog lights, power steering, tilt and length (!) adjustable steering column, audio preparation with four speakers. And also a headlight corrector, an additional heater in the cabin, a glass sunroof. In general, it remains only to choose a color.

WHAT IS INSIDE?

Wow! Salon "Barguzin" - with a small room: length 2500 mm, width 1800, height 1330 - what you need! You can even move from place to place by crouching. Five comfortable "Volgovsky" chairs, some have armrests. In the middle, a reclining table, even with a lamp, is great: the children will probably lay out toys here, and the wife will serve dinner. Velor upholstery looks rich, and curtains can be fenced off from the world if you want to relax. By the way, even an adult will settle down here - the width allows.

And then I will shoot arrows at those who designed the salon - they obviously did not take into account my interests! All the seats are bolted to the floor, and this completely deprives the owner of the opportunity to adapt the car to specific needs. But it is precisely the variety of transformation options that attract foreign mini-vans and minibuses. This is not provided by the factory - just a few extra holes in the floor! Independent redevelopment is prohibited by the Rules. Show me, gentlemen, designers, that imaginary businessman whose victim I fell? It is for his business negotiations that the salon-compartment is intended.

If you leave everything in it as it is, you will have to put up with offensive shortcomings - for example, go back and forth in the middle row. Fifteen minutes in a trolley bus is all right, but a few hours on the highway is unnatural! And I don’t need seven seats, five are enough, but with all the amenities. The seat backs of the third row are devoid of tilt adjustment, and what could be more pleasant than leaning back on a long trip? The cabin and salon are separated by a low partition - if you please, go around the street. And the trunk - chickens laugh for such a huge car! Moreover, it is half blocked by a spare wheel - could it really not be attached under the floor?

HOW DOES IT GO?

I have known Sobol for a long time and love to ride it: the landing is high, the visibility is excellent, the driver's seat is comfortable. The powerful “406th” motor is a guarantee of good dynamic qualities: you don’t feel flawed even among cars. You need to get used to the steering wheel - at first you move along the road like a drunk: the slightest movement of it turns on the hydraulic booster, which immediately starts turning the wheels. More than two tons of curb weight explain the very high fuel consumption in the city - 15–18 l / 100 km. However, on the highway in economy mode, I fit into the "top ten" - this figure is more important to me. The nose sways noticeably on the waves - the front shock absorbers are rather weak, and on bumps it throws up the stern - for a minibus, the springs should be made softer than for a van.

The Barguzin, like all sables, has mediocre cross-country ability - I got stuck on it in very shallow mud or slush. The reason is the low load on the drive axle of an empty car and the weak “bottoms” of the engine: when you try to drive it stalls, and when gas is applied, it breaks the wheels into slip. By the way, it is precisely in the calculation of a small snowball or ice that an ordinary Mercedes-Sprinter delivery van can be equipped with a limited slip differential - I wonder if GAZ will soon think of this?

IF NOT "BARGUZIN", THEN WHAT?

Only Nadezhda VAZ 2120 can really compete with him for my sympathies and wallet - it is cheaper by about 15 thousand rubles. There is also the Taganrog "Doninvest Orion M", aka "Citroen Berlingo" - also quite spacious, but one and a half times more expensive. And imported classmates - and at all in three-four times. Maybe take some used "Transit"?

Number of seats - 7; curb / gross weight - 2125 / 2800 kg; dimensions (l x w x h) - 4840x2075x2100 mm; maximum speed - 130 km / h; acceleration time from standstill to 100 km / h - 29.2 s; engine displacement - 2287 cm3; power - 81 kW / 110 l. With. at 4500 rpm; torque - 191 N.m at 3500 rpm; fuel consumption (60/80 km / h) - 9.5 / 10.7 l / 100 km.

Many people, including experienced motorists, do not see a significant difference between Sobol and Barguzin. Of course, there are more similarities than differences, but differences still exist. And it is important to know them, because it directly affects the choice of vehicle.

Definition

"Sable» is great for passenger transportation and is most often used by schools or travel companies. The cabin is designed to carry ten passengers who can easily communicate with each other due to good sound insulation. The side windows of the Sobol move, and this fact, coupled with the presence of a ventilation hatch on the roof, allows people to feel comfortable in the summer, when fresh air is needed. In the back of the minibus there are doors that close well in order to avoid various excesses. They are good for loading luggage.

"Sable"

"Barguzin" also designed for passenger traffic, but it is distinguished by increased comfort, so it is the top modification in the family. The cabin has comfortable seats with special headrests and armrests. They are located in such a way that passengers can communicate with each other, for example, to conduct business negotiations. In the center there is a small table that allows you to conduct various business, work on a laptop or fill out documents. In terms of comfort, the Barguzin can be safely put on a par with cars.

"Barguzin". Salon

Features

Outwardly, it is very difficult to distinguish "Sobol" from "Barguzin", because the main differences lie in the level of comfort of the cabin and the technical characteristics of the cars. Here are the main differences:

  • "Barguzin" is primarily a car for work or leisure, it is used more often by business people, while the main purpose of the "Sobol" is the usual transportation of passengers.
  • The Sobol has more seats, and the Barguzin has a special table located in the middle of the cabin.
  • "Sable" is more suitable for transportation in difficult climatic or road conditions. The car is often used in rural areas where the roads are not very well crossed. For example, it is often used to transport passengers from city limits to nearby villages.
  • The Barguzin has a smoother ride and better handling compared to the Sobol, because the car has an independent front suspension. Of course, the minibus copes worse with rough roads, but the Barguzin is more often used in urban conditions, for example, it is at the disposal of organizations in various fields of activity. In addition, families actively use the minibus, often traveling to nature.

Findings site

  1. In the level of comfort - "Barguzin" is more comfortable
  2. In the handling and smoothness of the car - the leader here is "Barguzin"
  3. In the number of seats - there are more of them in Sobol
  4. Available in "Barguzin" additional devices to increase comfort.

Started production at the end of 1998. Before that, there were practically no cars of this class in Russia, and the brand was out of competition (not counting foreign analogues). Unlike the Gazelle, the Sobol has a shortened base and, accordingly, a lower carrying capacity (about 0.9 tons on average).

The appearance of the car gas 2217 Barguzin

In total, GAZ has developed four main modifications of the small-tonnage followers of the Gazelle:

  • GAZ 2752 (3- or 7-seater all-metal van);
  • GAZ 22171 (10-seater minibus);
  • GAZ 2217 (6-seater minivan);
  • GAZ 2310 (truck with flatbed).

The brand with double-leaf rear doors and a sliding door on the side of the body (right) was taken as the basis.

Dimensions GAZ Barguzin

There were quite a lot of modifications of the Barguzin for the entire time of its release. It should be noted that the minivan has undergone deep restyling twice. The first generation of 2217 cars was produced from 1998 to 2003. Then the second series of "Sable" began, which was produced until 2010. Unlike the previous model, it has the following changes:

  • Rectangular headlights were changed to teardrop-shaped headlights;
  • The shape of the hood has changed;
  • An improved instrument panel appeared in the cabin;
  • The range of engines installed on the machine has noticeably expanded.

The next time the restyling took place in 2010, when the entire Gazelle family received improved equipment and became known as. The degree of comfort has also increased with the GAZ 2217 brand, the car has acquired the name "Barguzin Business".

Side view of gas 2217 Barguzin

This time the car received:

  • Updated front bumper, which began to be attached to the cab, and not to the frame;
  • Eight available body colors;
  • German instrument panel;
  • Improved interior lighting;
  • Improved stove heating;
  • Adjustable steering column;
  • Imported clutch from ZF Sachs.

Specifications GAZ 2217 1998-2003

The first issue of 2217 was from 1998 to 2003. The minibus was produced in a 10-seater version mainly for fixed-route taxis and had a simpler configuration. The six-seater minivan has already acquired a richer finish - it is considered a commercial vehicle.

The new model is also equipped with two types of engines - a 2.9-liter and promising Cummins turbocharged diesel (2.8 liters).

Specifications Cummins ISF2.8s3129T:
