Mercedes-benz CLS Shooting Brake - A new generation takes on a new shape! How does the CLS Shooting Brake go.

23.09.2019

A new one debuted at the Paris Motor Show 2010, and exactly two years later, in the same place, in Paris, the world premiere of the Shooting Brake wagon based on it took place.

The front part of the novelty completely repeats the four-door coupe, and the back is solved in the style of the same name, which was shown at the April 2010 Beijing Motor Show.

Options and prices Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake 2019

The new Mercedes-Benz CLS Shooting Brake (2016-2017) turned out to be 160 mm longer than the sedan, and its trunk volume when loaded under the shelf is 595 liters. With the backrests of the rear sofa folded down, the volume increases to 1,548 liters.

The Mercedes CLS station wagon went on sale in the European market in the fall of 2012. At the same time, at the beginning, buyers were offered only two diesel modifications. Under the hood of the CLS 250 CDI is a 2.1-liter engine with 204 hp, and a more powerful modification of the CLS 350 CDI is equipped with a 3.0 engine with a return of 265 hp.

Reception of orders for the new Mercedes-Benz CLS Shooting Brake in Russia started in early February 2013. And now we are receiving a restyled station wagon, which is available with three powertrain options - two petrol and one diesel. The basic rear-wheel drive five-door CLS 250 d with a 2.1-liter (204 hp) engine costs 3,520,000 rubles. Diesel modification 350 d with a 3.0-liter engine (249 forces) and all-wheel drive for 430,000 rubles. expensive.

The price of a 333-horsepower station wagon Mercedes CLS 400 Shooting Brake is 3,950,000 rubles, and the top one with a 5.5-liter 557-horsepower bi-turbocharged V8 under the hood will cost customers almost six million. All versions are equipped with a 7-band automatic transmission, except for the initial one, which has acquired the latest nine-speed automatic.

Updated Mercedes-Benz CLS Shooting Brake 2015

At the Festival of Speed in Goodwood 2014, the presentation of the updated sedan and station wagon Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class 2015 model year. Both received a retouched appearance, an improved interior and a couple of new engines.

Externally, the Mercedes-Benz CLS Shooting Brake (2016-2017) stands out with new bumpers, different head optics (already in the base is fully LED) and a different radiator grille. The design of the bumpers on the version with the AMG package has also changed.

In the cabin, the old infotainment screen has been replaced with a larger 8-inch touchscreen display shaped like a tablet computer. The steering wheel and the design of the front panel have also undergone minor changes.

The base diesel engine for the new Mercedes CLS station wagon 2015 has now become a 170-horsepower engine (400 Nm), which is installed on the CLS 220 BlueTec modification. A version of the CLS 400 also appeared with a 333-horsepower petrol "six" with a volume of 3.5 liters. And the old 7-band automatic has been replaced with a 9-band 9G-Tronic transmission.

In addition, Multibeam head optics became available as an option for the updated Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake 2016, in which the electronics, based on data from the video camera and navigation, can automatically change the parameters of the light beam of each of the 24 LEDs in each headlight. This allows you to highlight turns, road signs and not blind drivers of oncoming and passing cars.

Sales of the restyled version of the CLS station wagon started in August. The car costs the same as asking for a sedan. Only now the CLS 500 version is not presented in Russia. The price range for other modifications varies from 3,520,000 to 3,950,000 rubles.

However, the beauty and luxury of this car could not cloud our eyes. During the May holidays, we drove through seven regions, subjecting the luxury station wagon to a 4200-kilometer mileage in Russian reality.

The fact that Mercedes-Benz will revive the forgotten class of "shooting breaks" did not cause much surprise. In Stuttgart, the dog was already eaten on sending to a series of experimental projects straight from the exhibition podium, creating new body types, and by and large - new trends in the automotive industry.

And the very term Shooting Brake (in the historical interpretation - “a horse-drawn hunting cart for aristocrats”), even taking into account a purely practical purpose, implies an emphasis on the privileged segment of the population, that is, no savings on luxury. And Mercedes knows a lot about it.

Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake is a relatively free interpretation by the Germans of a very specific body type. Invented in the 60s of the last century by British automakers, “shooting breaks” were primarily three-door (!) station wagons, built, as a rule, on the basis of expensive sports coupes.

In Germany at the beginning of the twenty-first century, the model had five doors, and the comfortable E-class sedan, which also underlies the CLS sedan, served as the technical basis. But this is what is called, in fact. Eyes see something else...

Hunting cart?! Yes, the CLS crouched on the rear axle, it seems, will now jump on the victim itself! Machines with such perfectly traced forms, filigree calculated proportions and subtly completed style offhand, even hard to remember. The predatory station wagon is drawn so organically, as if it was done with one wave of the hand!

Frameless doors inherited from the sedan give a special chic to the CLS. However, if everyone is already used to the “four-door coupe”, then on the station wagon this feature looks especially extravagant. And is it a universal? The drop-down "stern" with a blade of the side windows is made so exquisitely that the language does not turn to classify the car as "sheds" - Shooting Brake! Probably the most beautiful station wagon of the Russian market and one of the most beautiful Mercedes.

But inside the eyes pleases only luxury. Stylistically, the CLS almost completely copies the interior of the regular E-class. But the timeless classic in the form of cream and dark brown leather, natural wood and metal finishes allows you to feel the incredible atmosphere of comfort.

Kinesthetics will experience a separate pleasure: the quality of the finish, the level of fit and docking of materials of different textures is beyond praise. With the onset of darkness, when the interior space is filled with a gentle warm glow of turquoise lighting streaming from under the panels, you don’t want to leave the CLS salon at all ... And all this is the basic version!

To the ergonomics of the German premium car, surprisingly, there are questions. The left hand eventually gets used to managing as many as three (!) Paddle switches, responsible for a total of a dozen functions.

But twelve electrically adjustable front seats - from the category of "the best is the enemy of the good." With so many settings, a lot of time is spent on the optimal position, and in the future, even while driving, you still try to catch options for the perfect fit, experimenting with the buttons of the branded “micro-chair”.

Perhaps this is due to the fact that the profile of the seats, which is called universal: the seat is a little wider than we would like, and lateral support is present, but not imposed. And only there are no complaints about the density - it is ideal. And both front seats have memory for three positions, three-stage heating and ventilation.

Rear passengers were just as lucky. The main thing is to bend down lower so as not to hit the falling window opening with your head. You literally fall into a sofa molded for two, like into a cradle, getting into the world of Mercedes comfort. The super-sloping roofline is a visual deception that does not affect headroom in any way - it is ample, as well as in front of the knees. To complete the picture, only “representative” options are missing, such as heating the sofa, curtains on the windows or monitors in front of your eyes.

Surprisingly, in the pursuit of beauty and style, the designers managed not to deprive the trunk of attention. Not only does its volume reach 550 liters in the nominal position and 1,550 liters when folded, there was also enough space in the underground for an 18-inch stowage, a subwoofer and several deep additional compartments.

But for those who are going to use the Shooting Break trunk for its intended purpose, you will have to sympathize: even in the cargo compartment there is a trim of delicate cream pile, and chrome is not only on the thresholds, but also on the latches of the seat backs. Looking ahead, I’ll say that my conscience did not allow me to throw a broken wheel into this beauty - I had to look for a tarpaulin substrate.

Traditionally for any German car, pockets, nets, latches and hooks for securing luggage are conveniently scattered along a strictly rectangular trunk. The electric tailgate on such a machine is a self-evident attribute. No matter how it looks and no matter how much the car costs, you really realize that you are in a Mercedes-Benz, only in motion. That's when a Mercedes is driving, then it becomes absolutely all the same how many levers there are under the steering wheel, what color the interior is and how many horses are under the hood.

In our CLS350, by the way, there are no less than 306 of them. And for the test we got the most affordable version with a 3.5-liter petrol "six" and rear-wheel drive. All-wheel drive CLS350 CDI and top-end CLS500 are also available to Russians. At the top of the range is the CLS 63 AMG hyperuniversal with 585 “horses”. But I don’t want to drive and check the passport 6.1 seconds to “hundreds”. From each turn on the Shooting Brake you slowly swim out, showing off the grace and forms of an incredibly beautiful snow-white “body”. Mercedes literally forms around you an aura of softness and comfort, slowly reacting to steering deviations, smoothly - to pressing the pedals and very quietly - to the passage of bumps.

At the same time, despite the loss in dimensions, the CLS is not much inferior to the older S-class in solidity, and in the attention of others it outshines by an order of magnitude - wherever Shooting Break appears, it instantly becomes a show-stopper! But the inhabitants of the salon do not care what is happening outside. Mercedes completely and on all fronts isolates the driver and passengers from the external environment. Excellent sound insulation, tinted "zero" and incredible smoothness. The only thing I want to do is to quickly find my favorite song in the track list. The excellent Harman/Kardon acoustic system finally takes you away from the frailty of the vain world outside the window.

But one has only to press harder on the accelerator and ... no, Mercedes does not start to accelerate aggressively, does not go “to the point”, does not press into the back of the chair. Actually, yes, it is! Only the words are completely wrong ... CLS Shooting Brake turns into a devourer of space and time. Each acceleration gives some amazing feeling of unreality of what is happening. In an instant, the landscape outside the window blurs, and the road, going to the horizon, narrows into a single line. And all this with phenomenal directional stability and almost complete silence - only the muffled noble rumbling of the V-shaped "six".

In such an atmosphere, any distance is halved, forcing you to include more and more new places in your travel plan. Not surprisingly, in the nine days of the test, we managed to drive a Mercedes-Benz 4,200 km across seven regions, almost without noticing it. The elasticity of the 3.5-liter engine is excellent. Paired with a seven-speed “automatic” 7G-Tronic, Mercedes always and at any speed understands the driver’s desires from a half-word, or rather, from a half-action. However, there is one "but". The car must always be in Sport mode.

By and large, no real "sportiness" appears in the car. Just against the backdrop of an extremely measured Eco mode, in which Mercedes is by default, the reactions of the car become linear and clear. The way you need it!

At the same time, fuel consumption remains at a sane level. With extremely active road shooting, the CLS consumes about 10-11.5 liters per 100 kilometers. With an 80-litre tank, this gives very good driving autonomy. Road traffic and ... domestic roads return to the reality of what is happening. Unfortunately, our car did not have the Distronic Plus branded active “cruise”, so we had to be distracted by braking in front of the trucks almost more often than accelerating.

The Geneva Motor Show 2012 has opened for motorists a new Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake. The exterior of the car was presented by a sports-style station wagon.

The wheelbase has become a little longer, as well as the length. And here the height lost three millimeters.

In general, the dimensions of the station wagon became as follows:

  • length 4956 mm;
  • width 1881 mm;
  • height 1413 mm.

In appearance, the car is striking with its muscular forms, LED optics and solid R light alloy wheels.
20. The complex headlights received 71 diodes each, of which a damn dozen are for the turn signals, a dozen for the night vision system and a couple for lighting the turning section. The engineers also taught the car to automatically switch from low beam to high beam.

Shooting Brake received a voluminous trunk with a capacity of 590 liters.
And with the rear seats folded down, this space increases to 1548 liters. If desired, you can separately order the interior trim of the trunk with American cherry panels with bog oak inserts.

The engine range of the car includes diesel and gasoline units.
The base diesel engine is considered to be a 2.1-liter engine with a capacity of 204 l / s. The “weakest” gasoline unit is a 3.5-liter engine with a capacity of 306 l / s, the fuel consumption of which is 5.3 liters per hundred kilometers. The flagship can be called an eight-cylinder engine with a volume of 4.6 liters and a capacity of 408 l / s. It requires in the combined cycle from 9.3 to 9.9 liters of gasoline for every hundred kilometers.

The basic version of the Mercedes CLS —class Shooting Brake
has front wheel drive. All-wheel drive is offered as an option.

In the range of station wagons Shooting Brake there is also a "charged" version of the machine. In its appearance, we will find such differences from the standard version as LED strips and air intakes of a modified look and a splitter covered in carbon fiber. Plunging into the interior, let's pay attention to the absence of wooden inserts, instead of which we find the same carbon. We also note another arrangement of the central tunnel control buttons.

The new nine-speed automatic transmission did not improve the CLS's acceleration dynamics, but it began to shift gears smoothly, the transitions to new gears practically ceased to be noticeable.

Economy Mercedes-Benz CLS Shooting Brake

Profitability in the combined cycle in the test mode does not exceed 5 liters / 100 km. Of course, in real life such efficiency is unlikely to be achieved, but with a leisurely drive around the city and its environs, most likely the car will not go beyond the consumption of 6-7 liters / 100 km. CO2 emissions - 149 g/km.

Exterior and interior of the Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake

The only choice that will torment the buyer of the Shooting Brake is which engine is best to take, since the updated model comes in one package.

The entire AMG lineup features gorgeous 19-inch AMG wheels, an AMG bodykit, lowered suspension, leather upholstery, Multibeam LED headlights, climate control, internet, satellite nav, heated front seats and an automatic tailgate.

The CLS Shooting Brake has many options and two additional specifications.

How the CLS Shooting Brake rides

Shooting Brake fully lives up to its reputation. To say that driving it you get an unforgettable pleasure, to say nothing! Whatever road it is on, on the highway, on a country winding two-lane, in the city, everywhere this five-door shows an abundance of power and torque, as well as the coordinated work of everything from the gearbox and engine, to the suspension and brakes.

But the Shooting Brake looks best of course on the highway. It was created for highways! Long trips, trips, long business trips, the station wagon CLS is more practical than you might think. But at the same time, it is much more beautiful and more profitable in appearance than the same E-Class Estate (although a matter of taste plays a role here).

The new Mercedes-Benz CLS Shooting Brake 2013 model year is another example of the German company's success in creating a new design. And especially Mercedes succeeds in new models in the coupe segment. In terms of proportions, the new Mercedes CLS Wagon is certainly a coupe, but with five doors and a roof that extends to the tailgate.

More new premium cars:
,

The idea of a four-door coupe was successfully implemented back in 2004 with the first CLS, and continued in 2010 with the second generation of the Mercedes-Benz CLS. And here is another bold step from the designers of the German company - we meet the Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake - a coupe station wagon.

body design

In fact, the car is a completely new version of a sports car for five people, with a roomy trunk and an impressive rear door. The manufacturing company positions it as a special offer for those who want to stand out from the crowd and are not afraid to be misunderstood.

And in general, even from the photo of the Mercedes CLS station wagon, it is easy to notice all the advantages attributed to it by the creators. We can safely assume that the CLS Shooting Brake has enough potential to become a role model in a new market segment.
An extravagant and unique feature of the new Mercedes station wagon is the wooden floor in the luggage compartment, which is truly exclusive to the automotive industry.

The wood chosen for finishing, and not just any, but cherry, is considered a classic option among thin woods and combines wonderfully with oak inlay and aluminum rails. Thanks to this elegant solution, the luggage compartment makes a car related to ... a yacht. The flooring technology involves the use of American cherry wood, five layers of veneer from which are glued together by hand and securely fixed. Then the surface is polished to a smooth state and covered with waterproof varnishes, which allows the natural beauty of the wood to be preserved for a long time. Dark oak is used for the inlay, cut into 3 mm strips using laser technology!, and in general, this composition, of course, contributes to an increase in the aesthetic perception of the wooden floor. The generously polished aluminum skid rails with rubber inserts not only help protect the wood floor, but are also anti-slip for added comfort.

A practical car owner, who, in theory, should be the owner of a car in a station wagon, may have a legitimate question - well, why all this unique expensive manual trim on the trunk floor ?! Or is this the only flat place where designers could turn around with their delights?! However, these questions are rhetorical. Like, for example, why do we need a gold washstand... Potential buyers will certainly be delighted with such an exclusive.

Interior - content, materials and quality of interior trim

The 2013 Mercedes CLS Coupe has already set new standards in the interior with its variety of customization options. The Mercedes-Benz CLS Wagon also offers five colors and five interior trims, as well as three leather options to choose from.

Customers can choose from three exclusive woods: Glossy Brown Walnut, Glossy Black Ash and Matte Light Brown Poplar. The interior will look even more progressive with the addition of piano lacquer, and in the AMG package - carbon fiber and black piano lacquer trim elements.

  • External dimensions dimensions wagon Mercedes CLS are: length - 4956 mm, width - 1881 mm (with mirrors 2075 mm), height - 1416 mm, wheelbase - 2874 mm.
  • Clearance(ground clearance) 110 mm or 150 mm (with standard air suspension).
  • Trunk The founder of the new CLS Shooting Brake coupe-station wagon body is from 590 liters with five passengers to 1550 liters with the second row seats folded down.

The back door is equipped with an electric drive.

More than a dozen electronic systems used in the new CLS station wagon help prevent or reduce the severity of traffic accidents. The novelty is equipped with bi-xenon headlights in combination with LED technology. The headlight with 71 LED bulbs per headlight looks spectacular and unmistakably identifies the CLS Shooting Brake in traffic.
