The BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer is available in Advantage, Sport Line, Luxury Line and M Sport trims.

A year ago, BMW shocked the world with its first compact MPV - the 2nd series Active Tourer, which made friends with the concept of "the ultimate driving machine" with a single-volume body, a transverse-motor layout and three cylinders. And now the Bavarians are going to finish off the Old Believers: the upcoming auto show in Geneva will honor the brand's first seven-seater passenger car - the "car" of the 2nd Gran Tourer series.

McPherson struts are installed at the front, and a multi-link suspension at the rear. Power steering electric

The new most practical BMW is based on the 2 Series Active Tourer monocab. But the novelty has a completely different feed and a higher roofline (1608 mm), and also a wheelbase extended by 110 mm (now 2780 mm). The total length increased by 214 mm, up to 4556 mm, while the width remained unchanged - 1800 mm.

In the cabin, as we have already noted, as many as seven seats. The seats of the second and third rows fold separately (by pressing a button), and the “middle” sofa is also adjustable in the longitudinal direction - in the range of 130 mm. The volume of the luggage compartment is 645-1905 liters in the five-seat version and 560-1820 liters in the seven-seater. Moreover, by tilting the back of the front passenger seat, it becomes possible to carry objects up to 2.6 m long. The fifth door can be opened and closed by simply bringing your foot to the rear bumper (option).

The powertrains are again familiar from the Active Tourer. Gasoline engines - “turbo-treshka” 1.5 (136 hp, 220 Nm) and “turbo four” 2.0 (192 hp, 280 Nm). From diesel engines - a three-cylinder 1.5 (116 hp, 270 Nm) and a two-liter unit (150 hp, 330 Nm or 190 hp, 400 Nm). Gearboxes are 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions, and the top-end all-wheel drive version of the 220d xDrive is equipped with an 8-band “automatic”. By the way, the rear axle is connected by a multi-plate clutch not GKN, like in MINI with All4 transmission, but the fifth generation Haldex - it can close the clutches even before the steered wheels start to slip.

The equipment of the BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer is on par. Fully LED adaptive headlights, active dampers, modern security systems, iDrive multimedia system with navigation, 6.5-inch display and “washer” controller with a touch panel, projection of readings on the windshield, etc. In the cabin, there is also a 12-volt outlet, a lot of niches for small things, and in the rear bumper there is a special retractable mount for transporting bicycles (how can you not draw a parallel with the Opel Zafira Tourer).

The BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer will be officially unveiled on March 3 at the Geneva Motor Show. The model will go on sale this year.

BMW is presenting a new 7-seat compact MPV 2 Series Gran Tourer at the Geneva Motor Show. Built on the UKL1 front-wheel drive platform, the model is an elongated, more practical version of the Active Tourer 2 Series monocab introduced a year ago.

Active Tourer: BMW's first family minivan with front-wheel drive. In the fall of 2014, the Bavarians intend to enter the front-wheel drive car market. Audi, Mercedes and many other automakers have long carved their niche in this market segment, and market research says that customers care little about the type of drive, but want a large interior and a roomy trunk - all this was the impetus for the creation of the first front-wheel drive BMW Active Tourer.

The target audience for the five-seater minivan BMW Active Tourer 2 Series is, first of all, young families who want to buy not just a spacious car, but a car whose hallmark will be the style and image of a dynamic premium brand.

BMW promises that the practical family car of the BMW 2 Series will be able to meet the high demands of the company's loyal customers in terms of driving performance - we will find out very soon if this is actually the case. One thing is certain: for many buyers, the Active Tourer will be their first BMW, as previous models simply don't fit into the new palette.

Although BMW's press release referred to a "largely power-free steering system," it's likely that a pretentious customer who prefers sporty driving and rear-wheel drive performance will be slightly disappointed when they get behind the wheel of the new "Bavaria". ".

However, it is clear that the engineers have gone to great lengths to best combine the ideal drive strategy for this class of vehicle with BMW's high standards for driving dynamics. A MacPherson strut front axle, a multi-link rear axle and an electromechanical power steering are the prerequisites for the agile driving characteristics that will make the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer MPV a true BMW representative among compact cars.

Interior

The interior of the Active Tourer is characterized by variability unprecedented for BMW: the rear seats can not only be folded in the ratio of 40:20:40 or recline, but also moved along the longitudinal axis. Due to this, with a couple of simple manipulations, you can add volume to the trunk or rear of the cabin. The volume of the luggage compartment, depending on the position of the rear seats, ranges from 468 to 1510 liters; the tailgate is powered and also offers the Smart Opener feature that will open the trunk if you slide your foot under the rear bumper.

The dashboard of the BMW 2 Active Tourer minivan is less driver-oriented than the concept car showed us in 2012, but combines the highest standard of workmanship and excellent quality materials. Two configuration options have been prepared for the start of sales - Sport Line and Luxury Line, which will allow you to adapt the interior and exterior of the car to the individual preferences of the client.

The range of driver assistance systems the new Active Tourer, internally called the F45, adopted from the MINI F56 hatchback, which debuted in December last year and uses the same UKL front-wheel drive platform. For the compact minivan, cruise control with Stop&Go function, a collision warning system with automatic braking function, an LDW system that informs about leaving a given lane, a parking assistance system and a HUD panel are available.

Engines

As stated, the BMW minivan will receive both four- and three-cylinder engines. Three engine options are prepared for market launch:

Engine power varies from 136 (model 218i) to 150 (218d) and 231 hp. (225i) and the Bavarian automaker will provide a few more units later this year. It was also announced that in 2014 the first models with all-wheel drive will appear. Of the trio, the 225i offers the best driving performance, accelerating from 0 to 100 km / h in 6.8 seconds with a claimed fuel consumption of 6.0 liters per 100 km. More economical are 218i (4.9-5.1 l/100 km) and 218d (4.1 l/100 km).

Models with a three-cylinder engine are equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission, and for a model with a four-cylinder unit, an eight-speed automatic transmission is provided. In particular, the flagship model of the BMW 225i Active Tourer minivan is equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission as standard.

BMW has ceased hiding details about the 2-Series Gran Tourer, a front-wheel drive seven-seater minivan, which is an enlarged version of the 2-Series Active Tourer.

Outside, the novelty differs from the five-seat car with elongated rear doors, a higher roof and a new rear design. Overall dimensions of the car reach 4556 millimeters in length, 1800 millimeters in width and 1608 millimeters in height Thus, for the sake of installing the third row of seats, BMW engineers lengthened the model by 14 millimeters and made it 53 millimeters higher.

The motor line of the new minivan consists of five different engines - two petrol and three diesel.

The base 218i is powered by a 1.5-litre, three-cylinder TwinTurbo Power petrol engine with 136 horsepower and 220 Nm of torque. Such a minivan is capable of accelerating from zero to one hundred kilometers per hour in 9.5 seconds, stopping acceleration at around 205 kilometers per hour.

The 220i is powered by a 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder unit with 192 horsepower (280 Nm). With it, the model picks up the first “hundred” in 7.6 seconds and accelerates to a speed of 223 kilometers per hour.

The smallest diesel engine, a 1.5-litre three-cylinder TwinPower Turbo with 116 horsepower (270 Nm), is available in the 216d version. A car with this unit consumes only 3.9 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers in the combined cycle and emits 104 grams of CO2 per kilometer - the best figure in the segment.

The 218d uses a twinpower turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel engine with 150 horsepower (330 Nm), while the top-end 220d xDrive all-wheel drive version is powered by a 190-horsepower unit (400 Nm). Paired with a standard eight-speed "automatic", this unit provides the BMW 2-Series Gran Tourer acceleration from standstill to 10 kilometers per hour in 7.6 seconds. The maximum speed of the model is 218 kilometers per hour.
