On this, a brief review of the novelties of summer tires in 2014 will be considered closed. Of course, dozens of interesting new products, also worthy of attention, were left out of our list, but we tried to highlight the most interesting ones, and we will mention some of the rest below - as part of the “rating of the best and description of the results of the 2014 summer tire test”, conducted by the magazine “Za Rulem” .

As you know, Za Rulem magazine conducts annual testing of summer tires before the start of the next season and compiles its own rating. This year was no exception. Note that this rating is the most objective in the post-Soviet space, because it focuses on a wide range of data, among which there was a place for the length of the braking distance, the speed of the rearrangement on dry and wet asphalt, handling and directional stability, as well as other parameters. In addition, the final assessment was influenced by fuel consumption at several speed options, the noise level in the car interior and the smoothness of its movement.

Winner of the "Best Summer Tire Rating" in 2014 became "rubber" Pirelli Cinturato P1 produced in Turkey. With a total score of 945 and second only to wet braking performance, these tires demonstrated excellent road holding, excellent directional stability, low noise levels and acceptable fuel consumption. It is rather curious that the average price of Pirelli Cinturato P1 tires is the lowest among the three winners and is only ~2300 rubles.

Second line ranking took summer tires Nokian Hakka Green Russian production. Their bar is 939 points and the best result in terms of braking on wet pavement. The average cost of these tires, produced in Portugal, is ~ 2500 rubles, and among the shortcomings, experts noted a slightly increased noise level in the cabin.

In fifth place tires settled Hankook Kinergy eco brought to us from Hungary. With a total score of 903, this summer tire delivered the highest level of fuel economy at an average speed of 90 km/h and also managed to deliver a smooth ride at the level of this season's leaders. The Hankook Kinergy eco tires were prevented from demonstrating more by the average handling on dry pavement and the high noise level, but the price, which is only ~ 2200 rubles, can act as compensation.

Polish tires are 1 point behind BF Goodrich g-Grip offered on average for ~2150 rubles. They lost in terms of fuel economy, but provided better handling of the car.

A dense group from seventh to eleventh place, respectively, are tires GT Radial Champiro VP1 (China, 889 points), Cordiant Road Runner (Russia, 886 points), Amtel Planet T-301 (Russia, 883 points), Toyo Proxes CF1 (Japan, 883 points). points) and Bridgestone MY-02 Sporty Style (Thailand, 878 points).
The 12th, 13th and 14th line of the 2014 summer tire ranking was staked out by the Philippine tires Yokohama BluEarth, the South Korean Nexen Classe Premiere CP641 and the Czech Barum Brillantis.
Well, the Ukrainian-made Contyre Megapolis tires closed the rating with a lag of 126 points, which managed to score only 819 points and became the only rubber this year that experts do not recommend buying.

The main part of the rivals is presented in the popular size 205/55R16 of the speed category V (240 km/h), but there are a couple of slow ones (H - 210 km/h) and a trio of faster ones (W - 270 km/h). It is noteworthy that high-speed tires are only from Japanese companies. Why on Russian roads there is more than a double speed reserve, they know, apparently, only in the Land of the Rising Sun.

And in order to compare the position of the competitors in the market, they were divided into three price categories: expensive (cost 3,500 rubles or more), medium (from 3,000 to 3,500 rubles) and economy class (cheaper than 3,000 rubles). Let's see who competes with whom, who trades at real prices, and who breaks them.


For lovers of premium brands

Thick wallets are ready to shell out 3900 rubles. for Pirelli, which took second place in the ZR test. Cool tire - literally nothing to complain about.

"Bridgestone", "Michelin" and "Continental" can be bought for the same money - 3850 rubles. But in our test, they performed differently. The most profitable tire of this trio in terms of price and quality ratio (4.05) is, of course, Michelin, the leader of our rating. Handsome, and only: stops and is controlled on a dry road better than anyone. And it won't save in the wet.

Bridgestone and Continental have close price/quality indices: 4.32 and 4.36, respectively. And the difference in points scored is insignificant - both fell short of the 900 mark, which, by our definition, separates excellent tires from good ones. It turns out that both of them are by no means the most profitable purchase.

It should be noted that Continental, whose products usually lead in terms of braking properties, sharpened this model for smooth, slippery asphalt, which is why it lost 2 meters to its leading rivals on rough. "Bridgestone" slows down worse than all premium models, yielding to the result of the leader by more than 2 meters. A little cheaper than Goodyear. With 930 points, it is in fourth place, in terms of price / quality ratio (4.03) it is comparable to the leader of the Michelin test. A little cheaper than Yokohama (3720 rubles) and Nokian (3700 rubles). But the final scores are very different: 933 and 886. No wonder - Nokian has the best braking on wet surfaces, and Yokohama is noticeably behind both dry and wet.

Closes the system of expensive tires "Toyo" (3550 rubles, 912 points, fifth place in the class). A strong tire, it is included in the best six in terms of grip properties, winning back in braking from fellow countrymen "Bridgestone" and "Yokohama" almost a meter on a dry road and one and a half on a wet one.


A little cheaper

The highest prices (3200 rubles) are distinguished by Hankook and Kumho. But in terms of characteristics, Hankook is the leader in the price class, showing an excellent result for its price (917 points and fifth place in the absolute).

In my opinion, a worthwhile choice: in dry braking, Hankook outperformed more than half of the premium tires, and in wet braking, it is practically the leader. Behavior on the road in all modes is smooth, without dips and emissions.

"Kumho" was able to score only 876 points. Unstable - grip on wet roads surpasses Bridgestone, Yokohama and Continental premiums, but is inferior to them on dry roads.

Cheaper "Nordman", scored 905 points and thus confirmed the reputation of an excellent tire. In terms of grip properties on dry and wet roads, it leaves behind the modestly braking three premiums, loses just a little to Hankook, but is not inferior to it in behavior on the road.

Even cheaper, for 3050 rubles, you can buy "Nexen". The price of savings is an increased braking distance both on wet and dry surfaces compared to the leaders. On the wet road lost 2.5 meters, and on dry - more than three. In addition, a complete "refusal" of sharp maneuvering.

The economy list opens with Cordiant (2850 rubles). Good characteristics for this class are confirmed by 865 points scored, the price / quality ratio (3.29) is slightly above average. The braking distance will need to be increased compared to the more expensive Nexen by about one and a half meters, although extreme maneuvering will not require special skills.

Viatti argues with him. This model is slightly cheaper - 2800 rubles, but noticeably lags behind in points - 845, although it came out on the second place in the class. It stops on a wet road just like the Cordiant, and on a dry one one and a half meters further.

For even less money, 2700 rubles, you can buy the "Formula". She has 831 points. In terms of grip properties, it is comparable to the Cordiant, but the behavior during extreme maneuvering is as dangerous as that of the Neksen. In addition, these tires do not want to carry the car straight at high speed.

You can save another one and a half hundred by buying "Kontyre" for 2550 rubles - 782 points. But the stock, if necessary, will need to stop much more than in the case of using other tires. Compared to the leaders - two car bodies! And no sudden steering actions if you don’t want to lose control of the car and beat the neighbors in the lane.

Almost for nothing (2300 rubles) give the Chinese "Aeolus". It brakes a little better than Contyre, winning a meter from him on a dry road and three on a wet one. True, the leaders are inferior to 5-6 meters.

We minimized the number of comparative exercises by focusing on the antagonistic characteristics of rolling resistance and wet grip. But braking on a dry road was not ruled out. The data obtained are shown in the table.
