Winner of the "Best Summer Tire Rating" in 2014 became "rubber" Pirelli Cinturato P1 produced in Turkey. The 12th, 13th and 14th line of the 2014 summer tire ranking was staked out by the Philippine tires Yokohama BluEarth, the South Korean Nexen Classe Premiere CP641 and the Czech Barum Brillantis.

And in order to compare the position of the competitors in the market, they were divided into three price categories: expensive (cost 3,500 rubles or more), medium (from 3,000 to 3,500 rubles) and economy class (cheaper than 3,000 rubles). Let's see who competes with whom, who trades at real prices, and who breaks them.
For lovers of premium brands
Thick wallets are ready to shell out 3900 rubles. for Pirelli, which took second place in the ZR test. Cool tire - literally nothing to complain about.
"Bridgestone", "Michelin" and "Continental" can be bought for the same money - 3850 rubles. But in our test, they performed differently. The most profitable tire of this trio in terms of price and quality ratio (4.05) is, of course, Michelin, the leader of our rating. Handsome, and only: stops and is controlled on a dry road better than anyone. And it won't save in the wet.
Bridgestone and Continental have close price/quality indices: 4.32 and 4.36, respectively. And the difference in points scored is insignificant - both fell short of the 900 mark, which, by our definition, separates excellent tires from good ones. It turns out that both of them are by no means the most profitable purchase.
It should be noted that Continental, whose products usually lead in terms of braking properties, sharpened this model for smooth, slippery asphalt, which is why it lost 2 meters to its leading rivals on rough. "Bridgestone" slows down worse than all premium models, yielding to the result of the leader by more than 2 meters. A little cheaper than Goodyear. With 930 points, it is in fourth place, in terms of price / quality ratio (4.03) it is comparable to the leader of the Michelin test. A little cheaper than Yokohama (3720 rubles) and Nokian (3700 rubles). But the final scores are very different: 933 and 886. No wonder - Nokian has the best braking on wet surfaces, and Yokohama is noticeably behind both dry and wet.
Closes the system of expensive tires "Toyo" (3550 rubles, 912 points, fifth place in the class). A strong tire, it is included in the best six in terms of grip properties, winning back in braking from fellow countrymen "Bridgestone" and "Yokohama" almost a meter on a dry road and one and a half on a wet one.
A little cheaper
The highest prices (3200 rubles) are distinguished by Hankook and Kumho. But in terms of characteristics, Hankook is the leader in the price class, showing an excellent result for its price (917 points and fifth place in the absolute).
In my opinion, a worthwhile choice: in dry braking, Hankook outperformed more than half of the premium tires, and in wet braking, it is practically the leader. Behavior on the road in all modes is smooth, without dips and emissions.
"Kumho" was able to score only 876 points. Unstable - grip on wet roads surpasses Bridgestone, Yokohama and Continental premiums, but is inferior to them on dry roads.
Cheaper "Nordman", scored 905 points and thus confirmed the reputation of an excellent tire. In terms of grip properties on dry and wet roads, it leaves behind the modestly braking three premiums, loses just a little to Hankook, but is not inferior to it in behavior on the road.
Even cheaper, for 3050 rubles, you can buy "Nexen". The price of savings is an increased braking distance both on wet and dry surfaces compared to the leaders. On the wet road lost 2.5 meters, and on dry - more than three. In addition, a complete "refusal" of sharp maneuvering.

Let's start with tires, which among their "brothers" proved to be less worthy.
Eleventh place goes to Kumho Ecsta LE Sport KU39. This tire has an asymmetric tread pattern and a central rib. Thanks to this, they showed themselves worthy in all tests, but they lost a lot to competitors in braking on wet pavement.

Tenth place and Bridgestone Potenza S001. Rubber has an asymmetric tread pattern, in addition, it has hard side ribs, which allows the driver to feel more confident in corners. Naturally, a hard sidewall also has its drawback - curbs and potholes in the road surface cannot be ignored, otherwise the “hernia” on your tire will not be long in coming. The manufacturer added silicon to the rubber compound, which theoretically should have improved the behavior of the tire on wet pavement. In tests, the rubber showed itself at a high level, both in driving characteristics and when braking on dry pavement. However, contrary to theory, the wet road tests did not live up to expectations. Insufficiently good results in transverse aquaplaning did not allow these tires to rise above 10th place.

Ninth place and Apollo Aspire 4G. Rubber from an Indian manufacturer, created in collaboration with designers from the Netherlands. It showed pretty good results in the vast majority of tests, especially the short braking distance on dry pavement is worth noting. Wet asphalt and mediocre aquaplaning resistance again became a stumbling block.
Eighth place and Semperit Speed-Life. This tire was rated "good" by ADAC. They performed well in tests, both on dry and wet pavement. They were developed taking into account all the shortcomings identified by the manufacturer after the DTM championship. This tire is a solid mid-range tire. She showed decent driving performance on wet and dry pavement. The braking distance on wet pavement is also beyond praise.

Sixth place was taken by Vredestein Ultrac Vorti tires. They have an asymmetric tread pattern with four grooves, which provides them with additional traction in corners. The characteristics of the tires are very balanced, which allows her to feel good on both wet and dry road surfaces. And so we got to the top three. Third place goes to the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2. In the R17 dimension, this tire has practically no equal on the test. This rubber is produced using the new Active Braking technology. This innovation consists in the interweaving of cord layers, and a significant amount of silica and resin has been added to the rubber, which gives it amazing grip with the roadway. This tire has the shortest braking distance on dry pavement, and it also boasts excellent driving characteristics on wet surfaces. Experts also noted low tire wear and good economy.
And here is the second place and Continental Conti Sport Contact 5. Goodyear demonstrates an excellent balance between the behavior of tires, both on dry and wet pavement. As always, tire industry leaders delight us with new technologies. This tire uses a unique rubber compound that adapts to the different vibration frequencies of the tire. Also on it there are special macroblocks that increase the accuracy of control. This tire showed excellent braking performance on dry pavement and an equally excellent driving performance. It will please future owners and low fuel consumption.
And finally, here it is our Toyo Proxes T1 Sport winner. The Japanese have always been famous for their rubber, and they did not disappoint this time either. This tire has an asymmetric tread pattern, in addition, the profile has been increased for better grip and, as a result, a reduction in braking distance. Ideally Toyo Proxes T1 Sport proved to be on dry surfaces. Excellent ride quality and one of the shortest braking distances. The complaints were about a relatively high noise level, but the Japanese can be understood, they sacrificed sound comfort, however, they achieved amazing driving performance. There is a slight tendency to longitudinal and transverse aquaplaning, but in the aggregate for all the tests passed, this tire scored the most points and deservedly took first place.
