But do not take models with a rigidly riveted hood, because it will not be easy to clean such a motorized dog from dirt and ice. A good option is either a quick-release plastic casing or a cover made of a special membrane fabric with zippered valves. The latter option has the advantage that it does not need to be removed entirely, it is enough to unfasten the desired valve - which means that the engine will remain protected from the icy wind.

Of the open nodes, the caterpillar and chain most often need adjustment. Therefore, before buying, check exactly how this function is implemented in your motorcycle dog. In the best models of motorized towing vehicles on the market, the caterpillar is adjusted by an eccentric - it takes literally five minutes; quick chain adjustment can be realized with an optional third freewheel sprocket.

10. Comfort and safety

The more the manufacturer thinks about the ergonomics of the equipment produced, the more convenient it will be for you to own and use it later. These are the “little things” that you can do without, but which will ultimately determine how happy you will be with your purchase.

The steering wheel must be foldable. This simple idea has not yet been picked up by all manufacturers - but in vain: screwing or unscrewing the steering wheel in the cold is a very dubious pleasure (otherwise the motorized towing vehicle cannot be loaded into vehicles). The correct folding steering wheel, among other things, has a height lock. It will not fall under the driver's feet, adjusts to height, and most importantly, it will be convenient to press on it to raise the front of the caterpillar and quickly move over the obstacle.

Gas handles and control box. Here, manufacturers use different options, from cheap Chinese crafts to serious ATV designs. You will have to pay extra for the quality, but it will be more pleasant to drive, and there will be less breakdowns.

An electric starter is a nice thing, but by and large it is not very necessary. It’s a matter of taste and wallet: if you want to start a motorized towing vehicle with a button on the steering wheel, sitting comfortably in a sleigh, take an electric starter; ready to pull the manual starter and get into the sled a little later - you can save money.

Reverse gear, or reverse gear. You can do without it, but a useful thing, especially if you drive through the forest and periodically climb into impenetrable windbreaks. Deploying a motorcycle dog on a narrow patch is not an easy task; the included reverse gear will allow you to easily drive back along the already laid track. Ideally, the reverse gear is turned on on the steering wheel, and not on the motorized towing vehicle itself.

The security check is a very important element; wear it every time you ride your motorcycle dog. A random stump under the snow, an awkward movement - and now you are already lying in the snow, and your motorcycle friend trots cheerfully away from you across the snowy field at a speed of 30-40 km / h. The check is designed to prevent such situations: it breaks down when the driver falls, which instantly turns off the engine. Some manufacturers offer it as an optional extra; in our opinion, every motorized towing vehicle should have this device, so pay attention to whether this part is “stock”.

Headlight, socket, electrical package. You can't ride in the dark without a headlight; Without a cigarette lighter socket, you can’t recharge the navigator away from home. On high-quality motorized dogs, an “electric package” with a voltage regulator relay that allows the use of various electrical devices is immediately included in the kit, as well as a headlight.

A brake with a parking mode is a very useful thing: you can safely warm up a motorized towing vehicle without fear that it will leave you across the field. There are far from all models and not all manufacturers, so pay attention.

11. Accessories

Do not limit yourself - look at the accessories that the manufacturer offers, even before buying a motorized towing vehicle. Couplings on the steering wheel protecting hands from cold and wind; heated bag for navigator; trajectory-holding skates for sleds; wheeled trailers for all-weather use; ski liners; ski modules or modules that turn a motorized dog from a tractor into a pusher - there are a lot of such “extensions”, and even if you are not too interested in them now, you should not limit yourself to the future. Look also at how large the company is and how often it brings such innovations to the market. The larger and the more often - the more additional "options" will eventually be at your disposal. And this is a guarantee that your motorized towing vehicle will really please you for many years.
