Difficult gear shifting can occur as a result of improper operation of the box, and due to the operation of the car on bad roads. Transmission problems sooner or later occur in used cars.

If you have difficulty shifting when trying to switch to another gear, you cannot switch, or it happens with great effort, then there are clearly malfunctions. Most often, car owners turn to a car service when they have hard to shift into first gear or reverse. A fairly common problem on VAZ and Ford Focus cars.

Consider the malfunctions that lead to difficult gear shifting:

  • Clutch failure. In this situation, the transmission will turn on either poorly or not completely. A frequent occurrence in VAZ cars, in which the cable is fur. the clutch moves away from the mount.
  • Malfunctions in the drive of the switching mechanism. Traction failure leads to heavy engagement of 1st and reverse gears.
  • Jet thrust defective.
  • Wear of plastic parts in the box control drive.
  • Curtain set incorrectly. A weighty element, improper adjustment leads to malfunctions.
  • Bearing wear. Quite a rare occurrence, anyone can experience it, especially when you have a mechanic. In such a situation, it is usually difficult to engage first gear.
  • Box shaft defective. By itself, it is not subject to heavy loads, which could lead to wear. A factory defect is the reason for the replacement of the entire unit.
  • Friction malfunction. Often found in owners of cars with automatic transmission. The malfunction is eliminated by replacing the clutches.
  • Malfunction of synchronizers - the problem is most often found among gearbox breakdowns. They are made for brass, and this metal itself is quite soft. During operation, it is erased and wear occurs. A breakdown is usually accompanied by a rattle when a different speed is turned on.

Some malfunctions can be diagnosed and eliminated independently, but the failure of the bearings or the shaft cannot be determined. For these purposes, you need special tools and equipment, and experience. In this situation, if you have problems with the inclusion of gears, it is best to go to the service station.

Why is it hard to shift into manual transmissions?

Gearshift problems on mechanics most often arise for the following reasons:

  • The most common problem is clutch failure. Reverse speed in such a situation turns on with a bang. This is due to the fact that the gear is superimposed on the tooth. Reverse speed is the only gear in the box that does not have synchronizers. For this reason, clutch failure is so obvious on it.
  • The second reason is a defect in the mechanism responsible for gear selection. This breakdown appears when the car is stationary and you try to shift into gear.
  • The third is a strong wear of the gearbox synchronizers. Mostly breakdown occurs with those that are most often used. This is first, second and third gear. Strong wear of the synchronizers is manifested only on switching while driving.

To prevent possible gearbox malfunctions, perform regular maintenance, change the oil on time, and in case of minor failures, hurry to diagnostics. This will save you time and money in the future.

What not to do with a manual transmission, see the video:

What to do if it is difficult to turn on the reverse gear?

If you have difficulty engaging reverse gear, perform one of the following:

  1. When you feel that the transmission has not reached the end, then slightly release the clutch, and the transmission will be inserted to the end.
  2. Fully depress the clutch and only after a few seconds put in reverse gear.
  3. Depress the clutch, put the gear in neutral and release the clutch. After that, squeeze and engage reverse gear.
  4. Engage reverse gear through another. For example, first turn on the 4th, and then switch to the rear.

How to properly engage reverse gear Hyundai Solaris watch the video:

Many drivers who encounter this situation try to push the box selector by force to turn on 1st speed. But this is fundamentally wrong and it is not necessary to do so.

In the current situation, it is necessary to apply. Its essence is as follows:

  1. While in second gear, depress the clutch and move to neutral and release the clutch after that.
  2. After that, you need to press the gas pedal, increasing the speed to 2.5 thousand rpm.
  3. The next step is to re-engage the clutch by pressing the pedal all the way down and engage first gear on the box. If you still have difficulty with this, then you need to repeat, because. You gave too little gas, there were too few revolutions.
  4. If all actions are performed correctly, then the first speed will turn on without any difficulties and sounds.

However, this method should not be used on an ongoing basis when 1st gear is hard to turn on. This method is temporary, so that at least without problems to get to the service station. In any case, the box will have to be repaired.

What to do when it's hard to turn on 1st gear on a car, watch the video from the driving instructor:

Synchronizer replacement procedure requires experience, relevant knowledge and a special tool, so it is better to contact professionals. Auto repair center specialists "Ankar" they will perform the replacement quickly and efficiently, as well as advise you on the further operation and maintenance of the box.

An automatic transmission is very demanding on maintaining the oil level and its condition, unlike a manual transmission. An oil level that is too high or too low can cause the machine to malfunction. In addition, due to a lack or excess of oil, difficulties may arise with the inclusion of speeds.

The most common automatic transmission malfunctions:

  1. Forward gears do not turn on.
  2. There is no reverse gear, only 1st and 2nd are forward.
  3. All speeds are included except reverse.
  4. No transmissions at all.

The oil level in the automatic transmission is checked using a dipstick. If the oil level is low, top up.

At the moment, all modern gearboxes are equipped with synchronizers, which are important elements of the box. The essence of the work of synchronizers is that they equalize the work of the shafts of the box.

Each driver, when switching from second gear to first, faced a situation where some kind of obstacle was felt. What prevents the inclusion of first gear while driving. This is the synchronizer.

If you have a fairly new box, then when you switch from high to low gear, you will not get into such a situation. Switching will be carried out without problems. This manifests itself as the operation and wear of the components of the unit.

One of the most common used on cars, including the VAZ brand, is mechanical. Although many modern cars already include an automatic gearshift device in the design. But they refuse to use it.

After all, VAZ, like any other brand of car, is very reliable, unpretentious and requires a minimum of maintenance. It is able to withstand significant loads without any harm to itself. The proof of this is the frequent use of this type of gearboxes on cars participating in various competitions.

But no matter how reliable and simple the “mechanics” is, troubles also happen to it. One of these malfunctions is the first and reverse gears are poorly engaged. And foreign cars are no exception.

But in order to understand why the first gear is switched on poorly, you need to first disassemble the design of this type of gearbox.

Transmission device

So, the gearbox scheme is quite simple.

There is a housing attached to the clutch housing. In this case there are three shafts - driving, driven and intermediate. The peculiarity of the arrangement of the shafts is such that the driving and driven shafts are on the same axis, and the driven shaft enters the driving shaft at one of its ends. Below them is an intermediate shaft.

On each of the shafts there are gears of different diameters and with a different number of teeth, while some of these gears mounted on the driven shaft can move along it.

Principle of operation

The working scheme of the gearbox is as follows. The drive shaft receives rotation from the clutch disc and transfers it to the intermediate one. If the neutral speed is on on the box, there is no engagement of the gears of the intermediate shaft with the driven one, the car is immobilized, since rotation is not transmitted.

When you turn on any gear, the driver engages the gear of the driven element with a certain intermediate gear. And the rotation begins to be transmitted from the driven shaft to the wheels. The car starts moving.

The necessary gears are engaged by a control unit consisting of three sliders and forks. Each of the forks is dressed on a special groove of the element. That is, the driver, using the gearshift lever and through a special backstage, acts on a certain slider, moving it to one side. In this case, the fork on the slider pushes the gear, and it engages. The change in gear shift speed is influenced by the engagement of gears of different sizes and number of teeth.

To prevent the slider with the fork from returning to its original position, the box control unit is equipped with latches. The latter are spring-loaded balls that enter the grooves on the sliders. That is, there are grooves on the slider in certain places.

When moved to the desired position, the ball detent jumps into the groove, excluding the return of the slider. When shifting speed, the driver must apply more pressure to the slider than the detent spring force in order for the ball to pop out.

This is a simplified description of the design and operation of a mechanical transmission.

Typically, classical models work according to this scheme. On some cars, the scheme may be somewhat different, but the essence of the work is the same - a slider with a fork acts on the gear.

In some cars in the gearbox, the slider responsible for turning on the first speed also ensures that the reverse is turned on. They also have such that the first and reverse gears turn on badly. Of course, this breakdown cannot be ignored.

On other gearboxes, the first speed and the rear are separated and different sliders are responsible for switching them on. In such cars, problems with turning on the first speed may not be reflected in turning on the rear.

There are several options why the first gear turns on badly. It also depends on how the cause manifests itself - it is impossible to turn it on, while everything is accompanied by a metallic rattle from the side of the box, or the speed turns on, but immediately turns off on its own.

Poor switching due to slider

First, let's consider why the first gear turns on badly and the reason for this is the problem with the transmission.

Often the problem with turning on the speed lies in the latch and the slider. The appearance of a burr near the groove for the latch on the slider can easily interfere with the entry of the ball retainer into the groove. When moving the slider, the latch rests against this burr and cannot overcome it without significant effort on the part of the driver. In this case, the gears are very close, but they do not engage, and the teeth of one gear beat against another.

In the future, such a beating can lead to flaring of the teeth, and the impossibility of switching on will already be due to the fact that, due to this flaring, the teeth will no longer be able to engage.

Knocking out speed

If it turns on, but immediately turns off, then the latch may be stuck in the depressed position, so it no longer does its job. It is also possible the destruction of the spring, which presses the ball detent. Without the force of the spring, he will not be able to hold the slider in position.

If a significant amount of force is applied during gear shifting, the shift fork may bend.

If this happens, then the gears will no longer fully engage, and the slider itself will not reach the stop, which will prevent the latch from entering the groove.

The reason for poor inclusion may also be the incorrect installation of the backstage of the gear knob. In this case, the link does not bring the gear to full engagement.

Troubleshooting the checkpoint

Troubleshooting is done by removing it from the car, disassembling, troubleshooting parts, if it is found that some of them are very worn out. Particular attention should be paid to the condition of the sliders and clamps. If burrs are noticed on the sliders, they must be removed with a file. You also need to check the condition of the springs and retainer balls. The springs must be intact, and the latch should move without problems in its seat. If necessary, worn or damaged elements must be replaced.

You should also carefully inspect the inclusion forks for bending. Even slight bending can affect the ease of shifting.

After assembly, the shift adjustment must also be performed. To be precise, the position of the backstage is set.

Clutch malfunctions

Often the reason why the first gear turns on poorly is not the box itself, but the clutch.

Modern transmission gears are equipped with synchronizers that equalize the speed of rotation of the gears, providing ease of engagement.

However, the first speed is not equipped with a synchronizer. If the clutch "leads", then when the pedal is depressed, its complete cessation of the transmission of torque from the motor to the gearbox is not performed.

Because of this, there is a difference in the rotation of the shafts and gears of the first gear, in particular.

In this case, it is rather difficult to engage them, and all attempts to do this are accompanied by a strong metallic rattle.

It is possible that the reverse speed will also not turn on, or it will be difficult to turn on. At the same time, if it was possible to still turn on the gear, the car starts to move even with the clutch pedal fully depressed. An additional sign of clutch problems is that the car jerks when changing gears, especially if some of them are not equipped with synchromesh.

How to check the clutch?

Pointing at and not boxes can help the auto engine. If, when the engine is turned off, all speeds turn on easily, no problems arise, and when the engine is running, the first and reverse gears turn on poorly, or it cannot be turned on at all - you should pay attention to the clutch.

The reason that the clutch "leads" is often its incorrect adjustment.

The release bearing is too far from the release diaphragm or cams. When the pedal is depressed, this bearing is not able to fully press the drive disc from the driven one, and the torque continues to be transmitted. Significant wear can also affect the operation of the clutch, due to which it began to “lead”.

Clutch adjustment and repair

The first thing to do in case of clutch problems is to make an adjustment.

On different cars, it is done in different ways, but all operations come down to one thing - installing the release bearing at the required distance from the diaphragm or cams.

If the adjustment did not help, then you will have to dismantle the clutch from the car, carry out troubleshooting and replace worn elements. Sometimes, over time, wear and tear of all the components of the system. In this case, the clutch is completely replaced - the drive and driven discs, the release bearing.

Conclusion

The above are the main reasons that it is difficult to shift gears on a car. Although, as stated at the beginning, if a manual transmission is very reliable, then more often than not the clutch is to blame for poor engagement, and not the box itself.

The gearbox is a rather complex unit that requires due attention and diagnostics. Today, the problem of poor gear shifting is relevant for many vehicles, so it is important to understand how the unit is diagnosed and repaired. From this material you will learn why the first gear does not turn on well, what it is connected with and how you can turn on the first speed if necessary.

What are the reasons for interruptions?

The gearbox is not only one of the most complex, but also one of the most basic components in any vehicle. The causes of malfunctions, which make it difficult to engage the first gear, can be associated with both incorrect use of the unit and driving on poor road surfaces. In any case, if you do not know why the speed does not turn on well, then this indicates a certain breakdown of the unit itself.

It should be noted that a similar problem is often found in older cars that are bought from hands, and not in car dealerships. Therefore, if you have purchased a used car, then you should not even be surprised at such a problem, especially since such malfunctions will appear in any car sooner or later. In addition, if you are trying to turn on the speed and this happens, but very badly and with great difficulty, then the unit selector may eventually stop responding to any motorist commands at all. Naturally, not every driver will be able to constantly start moving from the second speed, so it is important to understand the reasons why the first gear is tight.

The following is a list of failures, as a result of which the gear lever will shift gears poorly:

  1. The problem is - the mechanism turns on poorly, the shutdown is incomplete. Often such a problem occurs in domestically produced cars and in most cases it is due to the fact that a mechanical clutch cable flies from the attachment point. In fact, it is not very difficult to identify this - if the cable breaks, the pedal will be recessed into the floor and will not move. This, as you understand, is directly related to the operation of the clutch, and not the gearbox.
  2. There was a breakdown in the operation of the drive rod for controlling the gearshift mechanism. Then not only the first, but also the rear, as well as other speeds, will turn on badly.
  3. Breakage of jet thrust of the unit.
  4. For unknown reasons, the fastening bolts located on the garnish or selector rod for selecting the gearbox mode have loosened. The problem is solved by tightening the bolts.
  5. The gearshift drive of the gearbox was incorrectly adjusted.
  6. The plastic elements in the gearbox control drive are out of order or have worked out their service life.
  7. The rocker was poorly adjusted. As you know, the purpose of the backstage is very important in connecting the gearbox and the gear selector, so incorrect adjustment may well be the cause of the problem. In addition, plastic bushings could wear out or fail on this link.
  8. Synchronizer failure can also be called one of the most common breakdowns in gearboxes. Unit synchronizers are brass bushings needed for easier switching between unit modes. Since brass itself is a soft material, during the operation of the vehicle, it can wear out and wear out. To correctly diagnose the state of the synchronizers, you should pay attention to the operation of the gearbox - if a rattle or an unpleasant sound appears when shifting gears, then the problem is in them. Moreover, this sound will appear constantly when you try to turn on the first gear. In the event that only sound appears, but the gearbox selector turns on in one mode or another without problems, then a malfunction will occur soon.
  9. Gearbox bearing failure. Such a malfunction is not so common, one might even say that it is rare, but any motorist can still encounter it. If you own a car with a manual transmission, then the bearings could jam in it, as a result of which the shaft stops rotating along the path. In such cases, it is difficult to turn on the first gear, at other speeds the problem usually does not appear.
  10. The shaft of the box is out of order. The machine shaft is not normally subjected to operational wear or very heavy loads, but a malfunction can be caused by a factory defect. In the event that even not very big mistakes were made in production, then the shaft may well break. If this is the case, then the problem of turning on the first speed may be just the beginning of a big breakdown that you will face. As practice shows, often in such cases the unit itself breaks down completely.
  11. The problem of clutch breakdown is relevant for owners of cars with automatic transmission. There are cases when, with incorrect functioning of the clutches, when the first speed is turned on, a push occurs, but then everything works fine. The malfunction is solved only by replacing the clutches.

You, as a motorist, need to understand that a breakdown of the unit shaft or bearings cannot be diagnosed at home. Only experience and equipment will help to understand this reason. Accordingly, if there are problems with turning on the first speed, it is advisable to immediately contact a professional.

How to turn on the first gear without harm to the box?

Often, inexperienced motorists, including the gearshift selector from second gear to first, may notice how some difficulties appear, in particular, how hard it is to shift into first gear. In such cases, a novice driver often tries to turn on the speed by applying force, simply by driving the selector into the desired position. In no case should this be done, since such actions can be fraught.

Actually, noticing such a drawback in the manual transmission, motorists developed a rule - the first speed should be switched on only in order to move off. In all other cases, second, third and fourth gears are included. Experienced motorists especially often use this rule, but we want to say on our own behalf that this is basically wrong.

Any auto instructor will tell you that the choice of speed should be based on the speed of driving and the speed of the crankshaft of the motor. In principle, it is even possible to park normally only at first speed. If you try to park in second gear, you will have to maneuver very quickly, and the clutch will be heavily loaded in such cases. Actually, as well as on the gearbox unit itself. Accordingly, for yourself, you must learn one simple rule - you can turn on the first gear while driving only if the speed is low and the crankshaft speed is low.

Gearbox theory

Every motorist who understands the structure of the gearbox knows that all modern cars with a manual transmission are equipped with synchronizers. This element is one of the important components of the unit. The purpose of synchronizers is to equalize the speed of all gearbox shafts. In addition, these elements are responsible for painless for the box and shockless gear shifting.

It should be noted that directly while the driver pushes the box selector when switching from second gear to first, you can feel an obstacle. This obstacle prevents the activation of the first speed and it is this obstacle that is called the synchronizer. In the event that the gearbox is relatively new or a synchronizer was recently installed on it, then you will not experience problems with the transition from high speed to low speed. The inclusion of the first gear will be carried out without any obstacles.

But if your vehicle has already traveled more than a hundred thousand kilometers, then this will directly affect the functioning of some elements of the unit. In particular, in the first place, synchronizers will stop working normally - they simply will not be able to perform the tasks assigned to them initially. Then the motorist is forced to perform various "tricks" that our grandfathers told us about - these are all kinds of regassing with and so on.

When performing such tricks, the regassing will perform the function of an equalizer of gears paired with each other. Thus, if the difference in angular speeds is high, and the synchronizers are worn out quite strongly, then the driver will have to accelerate even more. In the event that the angular speeds are the same, the motorist will immediately understand this - the gearbox selector will be able to switch from high speed to low speed without any problems. Thus, it will no longer be worthwhile to make efforts.

First gear engagement methods

So, if your vehicle does not turn on the modes well and you have already figured out the reasons and the theory, then let's move on to the most important thing - the methods for engaging the first gear. The simplest method in this case would be to activate first gear while driving a car. You need to effortlessly push the selector of the unit forward and do this until the corresponding synchronizer comes into operation. However, it should be noted that this method is relevant for most cars and some trucks.

It should be noted that in most old trucks this will not work, since the device of the unit itself does not allow this, since they simply do not have synchronizers. In addition, you need to take into account that this method of activating the first speed is hardly relevant if the synchronizer has already worked out its service life on your vehicle. It will simply be impossible.

Then the motorist will only have to wait a while until the car practically stops to turn on the desired speed. Or, with the use of force, turn on the gearshift lever. In principle, neither the first nor the second method can be called the optimal way out in such a problem. As practice shows, it would be best to use the same old-fashioned method with regassing.

How to do this - you can find out below:

  1. So, moving in second gear, start depressing the clutch pedal.
  2. When you press the pedal, move the box selector to the neutral position. By doing this, you can disable the clutch pedal can be disabled.
  3. Then, when the pedal is fully down, you need to give your right foot a little gas by pressing the pedal. In this case, pay attention to the tachometer, which shows the number of revolutions. You need to increase the speed to two and a half thousand per minute, that is, the arrow should be on the number 2,500. Here, pay attention to its one important nuance - the greater the difference in the angular speeds of the mated gears of the box, the higher you need to raise the number of revolutions. That is, an indicator of 2,500 is the minimum, if necessary, add gas.
  4. Then depress the clutch pedal again.
  5. Next, the box selector should be moved to the activation position of the initial mode, that is, the first speed. Here also pay attention to the fact that if the selector does not enter correctly into the required position, then most likely you just gave little gas. If so, then repeat the steps, only add more gas.
  6. As a result, you need to smoothly release the clutch pedal, not abruptly. If you did everything correctly, then the gearbox lever will turn into the required position without any problems, shocks and extraneous sounds.

If you didn’t manage to do this, then don’t be discouraged - the first time rarely anyone manages to perform a double regassing. By repeating the procedure several times, you will be able to remember everything that needs to be done to correctly engage the first speed. Actually, the same methods allow you to activate the first gear while driving in third, for example, if in an emergency you need to slow down with the engine. In this case, the higher the driving speed, the longer you will have to wait for the synchronizers to help you. Or you need to step on the gas more.

But don't take double gassing as a way out. This method can be called a temporary solution, but the unit will still have to be repaired. Since the replacement of synchronizers is a rather complicated process, we recommend that you seek help from specialists. If you still decide to perform this procedure yourself, then the instructions below will come in handy.

- a rather complex vehicle assembly that requires appropriate attention and high-quality diagnostics. If there are malfunctions in the operation of the gearbox, driving a car becomes not only uncomfortable, but also unsafe.

To date, the main problem associated with a malfunction of the gearbox is poor gear shifting (gears). It should be noted that more often this applies to used cars, although on new cars in the budget segment, problems of this kind are also no exception.

Gears turn on poorly: the main causes and breakdowns of the gearbox

As a rule, errors during the operation of the unit lead to violations in the operation of the box. In any case, diagnosis is necessary. In this case, problems that arise when switching the gearbox may be associated with such malfunctions:

Gears turn on tight or do not turn on speeds on a manual gearbox: the main causes of malfunction and possible malfunctions.

  • Causes of difficult gear shifting on a running engine. Transmission oil and level in the gearbox, wear of synchronizers and gears of the box, clutch.
  • Correct gear shifting on a car with a manual transmission: when to turn on one or another gear in a manual transmission, working with the clutch pedal, errors.

  • Most often, the owners of nines complain that the VAZ 2109 does not turn on the speed or there is a crunch during turning on and moving back. First of all, analyze what you have recently changed in the box or clutch. Then remember the moment of occurrence of deviations from the usual mode of operation. Check the oil level.

    Causes of gearbox failure

The complex mechanism is constantly working under load and under extreme conditions. Constant vibration, rising temperatures, dust and dirt. If one or more speeds fail to turn on, check:

    • tension and integrity of the cable;
    • backstage mount;
    • production on the clutch disc;
    • petals on a basket;
    • bearing integrity;
    • fork condition.

    Clutch

When the clutch discs are worn, the pedal lifts up, and its position becomes higher than the rest. In this case, when turned on, a crunch may be heard and the lever does not move, as if resting on an obstacle. Do not force the assembly, as this can lead to more serious damage - the gears will fly.

For such wear, it is characteristic that the clutch pedal falls into the floor and you can hear from the drivers that the VAZ 2109 does not turn on the speed. This usually applies to all gears, but only first and reverse can fail.

You can check by removing the rubber plug. From the destroyed disc, fibers are left that look like tangled strands of hair. If this phenomenon occurs, then a new clutch disc should be installed.

    Cable

From constant loads, the cable is stretched and it must be periodically adjusted, tightened. In this case, the first and second speeds do not turn on on the VAZ 21093, and the rear one may also fail. To eliminate the breakdown, you need to call into the pit and tighten the cable. If worn, replace immediately. You can do this with your own hands.

Such a breakdown can also manifest itself in the failure of the gears to turn on when the engine is running. Sliding along the slots is limited and fixation does not occur.

    Basket

The reason for the difficult shifting of individual gears, especially if a crackling sound is heard at the same time, gradually fading away during movement, may be the destruction of the gasket ring in the basket. Pay attention to the presence of oil drops on the outside. Then remove the basket and check the o-ring and disc petals. Pay attention when buying new parts, because on some models the disc is missing and then you have to put pins and mount it yourself.

    backstage

A loose link must be tightened with an assistant. Special knowledge and skills are not required from him, just the ability to hold the lever in the desired position while you climb under the car and tighten the bolts. When the wings are loosened on the VAZ 2109, speeds do not turn on, and first of all, the rear.

Park the machine on a pit or hill to gain access to the bottom. Set the lever to neutral if multi-speed does not engage. When only the reverse gear does not work, then carry out the adjustment on it. The assistant must hold the shift knob in a predetermined position, without deviating anywhere.

It is necessary to loosen the bolt from below by 13, check the engagement of the gears, and having put everything in place, tighten the bolt. If there is a problem with several gears, everything is done the same way, but it is set to neutral, or rather the shift knob is in the middle position. How to do this, you can watch the video.

    Fork

Most often fails on the road. It is necessary to slow down at a traffic light, and the speeds to continue moving do not turn on. A crack formed on the body of the fork at any time can lead to its destruction even under slight loads.

    First speed is not fixed

During the start of movement from a standstill at first speed, especially from difficult ground such as sand and snow, you have to hold the gear lever, since it does not hold on its own, the gear is switched off to neutral. There can be three reasons for this failure:

    • the link is loose and does not fix the fork;
    • gear and clutch wear;
    • displacement of the engine on the pillows and knocking out the box.

You should fully check the condition of the fasteners of all parts and assemblies. The gearbox is rigidly fixed to the engine. However, when the motor slips on the pillows, the first speed can be knocked out. Tighten all bolts and check the rigidity of the mounting on the body. You can do this work yourself.

Fasten the link more rigidly on the shift lever, select the backlash, because it is she who is responsible for fixing the lever in the desired position. To do this, you need to put the car in a pit. Open the lid and inspect. Pay special attention to the condition of the gearing.

When worn, the gears can slip and pop out without transmitting torque. When you press the lever with your hand, the clutch fits forcibly and engagement occurs.

    New box

There are problems when they took the car from the service station, and the VAZ 21093 gearbox does not turn on the speed. At the same time, when the engine is not running, the shift lever moves smoothly, without crackling. As soon as the car is started, the gears stop turning on. First of all, check the movement of the gear and fork along the splines - along the axis of the shaft. Since you opened the box, pay attention to the position of the driven disk, whether it was installed correctly.

If malfunctions are found shortly after servicing the car at the service, you should not bother with it yourself. Send your car back and let the locksmith find and fix their jambs themselves. Remember that you do not have to pay for reworking poor-quality repairs.

VAZ 2109 reverse speed does not turn on

The location of the rear speed in the extreme position most often leads to its refusal to turn on. Since several models have exactly the same boxes, the VAZ 21093 does not turn on reverse speed for the same reason. It may be a short lever and the link is missing to the desired position.

It is enough to look at the photo of the gearbox from below to determine the cause. Repairs should be carried out on the pit, since everything will have to be done from below. You need to loosen the wings. Engage gears in reverse gear and tighten bolt. The lever should be in the reverse gear position.

Often, when the first speed is turned on while the car is moving, it wedges and does not work. There are no problems when starting from a place. Some "specialists" even put forward the theory that you only need to start moving from first gear, and you should not use it during maneuvers.

This problem occurs due to the fact that the injectors do not have time to equalize the torque of the gears, and the driver forcibly tries to connect them. The flywheel spins much faster than the drive shaft and teeth can fly out if the force is large.

Do not rush to press the lever. Shift it into neutral, push lightly into first gear, and wait for the synchronisers to do their job and shift into gear.

For old boxes there is an instruction for switching with regassing. When downshifting while driving, move the stick to neutral, step on the gas to increase the RPM, and then shift smoothly. This method is used by owners of preserved vintage cars, the price of which has recently increased dramatically.
