The same in grammar - everything is laid out on the shelves, but you will definitely stumble upon a reservation. In our test, bright cars converged, well deserving of being considered exceptions to the rules of the automotive world.

Bavarians dubbed the BMW X6 Sports Activity Coupe - literally translated as "a coupe for a sports and active lifestyle." In terms of growth, the off-road vehicle, with contours, resembles an elegant sports car. There are now gaps in the division of bodies by type. However, why now? Take a look at the counterpart of the "German": the "Infiniti-FX45" has similar shapes and sizes, a powerful engine, all-wheel drive. The ideology is undoubtedly the same, but how could designers from different continents implement it?

GLASS, TIN, WOODEN

In ancient times, a Russian language teacher approached the window and consistently pointed at the glass, the handle, the frame. So the students better memorized adjectives that do not obey the rule. I, sitting behind the wheel of the Infiniti, touched either solid plastic, or rosewood trim, or aluminum lining, until I came across a foreign body. I did not expect to see hard plastic panels in the rich interior - the instrument visor and the center console seemed to be rearranged from another car, at an order of magnitude less price.

The sporty genes of the coupe are literally crushing. And so much so that it’s a bit crowded behind the wheel even for a not very well-fed driver. The right leg meets either the steering column cover or the wide console. In addition, the latter pressed the seat belt buckle against the seat, which caused the belt bracket to be lengthened. Because of him, you feel the feeling of an elbow - in the literal sense.

An interesting solution: the steering wheel moves up and down along with the instruments. I'm afraid not everyone will like this kind of fun. For example, I quickly found a common language with the design, and a tall colleague complained that the steering wheel rim overlaps part of the speedometer and tachometer. Despite the rich set of adjustments, it is not possible to take a comfortable position immediately. Even a person of average height feels with his shoulder blades where the short back of the seat ends.

It's time to move - the selector is in position ... I wonder if you got into the "drive"? Blind red dots next to the lever fit to look at under a magnifying glass. Fortunately, I found a duplicate indication on the dashboard. I’m sitting well, I’m looking far away ... but only forward! Behind the high "window sills" an insidious column or an open well can easily be hidden - maneuvering in the parking lot, it's just right to look out of the window. Yes, and taking back in a passenger car, looking through the small window of the fifth door, is not safe, it is more reliable to rely on mirrors and a video camera (by the way, it is even in the minimum configuration). “These cars are made to drive forward, not to spin in one place,” a colleague interrupted when I complained about the visibility of the Infiniti.

Having escaped into the open, you really forget about the shortcomings of the FX45. A powerful "eight" rips off a two-ton colossus, like a feather. You fly, not noticing how the automatic transmission snaps off. Inside, confidence and calmness reign, which is facilitated by solid dimensions and tenacious brakes. The Infiniti stands firmly on the road, and the informative steering and well-tuned suspensions exactly fulfill the desires of the driver. In the corners, huge and wide tires firmly dig into the asphalt, and when their traction is depleted, the car begins to smoothly slide off the path with all four wheels. Moreover, the electronics do not interfere if the driver returned the car on time to the right path. But if necessary, it works clearly. True, for such diligent behavior one has to pay a small dues. On a mediocre surface with pits and waves in the cabin, it shakes, and the steering wheel walks in your hands, as if alive.

And yet, you get a good portion of pleasure from communicating with Infiniti. Interesting, is there more? Switching to BMW...

WRITTEN IN CAPITAL LETTERS

Despite the strict design, the X6 cabin seems cozier. Perhaps, such a feeling is evoked by a two-tone design with harmonious inclusions of metal and wood. Here nothing presses and does not rub. For example, even in the lower part of the center console there are soft inserts so that a bruise on the leg does not fill in the turns. There are more places behind the wheel in a BMW, and the seat is very comfortable. Is the pillow too short? Squeeze the lever, and the center insert will extend so that even the legs of a basketball player will not bend at the knees. Blades hanging in the air? So after all, you can separately adjust the upper part of the back. And you don’t expect at all, sorting out, like on a button accordion, numerous buttons, that the lateral support is ready to adapt to the figure. Moreover, the chair squeezes in its arms not like a metal vise, but rather like a faithful friend.

I got acquainted with an interesting innovation of the Bavarians - the original gearbox selector at the presentation of the second generation X5 (ЗР, 2007, No. 2). Funny, beautiful, but unusual. This time, for quite a long time, I got used to the non-standard switching scheme, now and then looking at the cunningly curved lever, but when I got used to it, I came to the conclusion: it’s convenient. It will take even longer to adjust to maneuvers in narrow passages. The glazing line here is lower than in the Infiniti, but a lot still floats overboard unnoticed. What is the review back? In a BMW, you don’t have to strain yourself, because ... you can’t see anything at all! Well, the technique has already been mastered - I use mirrors (they are, perhaps, even more convenient than in FX) and, alas, graphic parking sensors instead of a rear view camera.

Amazing! The X6 accelerates faster and the maximum speed is higher, although under the hood there are two cylinders and a couple of dozen “horses” less, and the curb weight of the cars is almost the same. Obviously, the secret of playfulness is in the perfectly matched gear ratios of the gearbox. Good machine on the "Infiniti"! But only until you try the new "six-shot weapon" BMW. Sometimes it seems that the switching does not occur at all, they are so soft and timely. The transmission does not just understand the driver perfectly, but anticipates his actions.

Oohs and aahs smoothly move from one area to another - now I revel in masterfully honed handling. I confess, I even forgot for a while that I was sitting in a car with a ground clearance of more than 200 mm - with a good ride, the X6 changes direction without much thought and with minimal rolls. In the turn, where I was forced to correct the trajectory on the Infiniti, the BMW fits, pardon the banality, like a high-speed train. You feel only lateral acceleration, and then the car seems to be slightly twisted around the vertical axis by a certain force. I'm trying to add. And again everything happens without my participation, only out of the corner of my eye I manage to snatch out a light bulb blinking on the dashboard: the stabilization system has worked.

If the X6 is capable of this in normal mode, what can we expect from it by turning on the "sport"? But after the experience, you feel a little disappointment: essentially nothing changes. It seemed that the steering and suspension became a little more assembled, the engine responds more actively to the accelerator pedal. Perhaps this button has more psychological than physical impact.

The already middle-aged Infiniti (we regret that the new modification, the FX50, whose sales will begin by the end of the year, did not arrive in time for the test) is hard to compete with the newborn BMW. But I will give him his due - even against the background of such a strong competitor, the FX45 looks worthy. For the "Japanese" this is not a defeat, but rather an inoffensive loss, because the German company has really raised the bar very high. I wonder who else will compete with the X6, will the class of high all-wheel drive coupes develop at all? And by whose rules will it be played?

Getting into a tall car is not easy. In the presented machines, the task is complicated by the fact that the doorway is small. To get into the driver's seat, even a person of average height has to bend down his head and at the same time perform almost a split, rising on his left leg, and transferring his right to the salon. The floor in the BMW is slightly higher than in the Infiniti, and the threshold is wider, so a good muscle stretch for the driver of the X6 will not hurt, otherwise he will stain his trousers. In FX, another danger lies in wait - the far protruding edge of the instrument panel, which is easy to put your knee on. A seat that slides back when the ignition is turned off will help protect yourself a little from bruises and bumps (this feature can be turned off).

As for the second row, it's easier to get into the Infiniti: both the opening is higher and the threshold is narrower. And leaving the "gallery" is more difficult, especially for owners of large shoes - the stamping of the body interferes with the legs.

During the year of owning Fx-ohm, except for the replacement of consumables, no stocks were found. Very strong and decent car. There was one joint when the car had just been brought from the States - it did not always start up hot. After cleaning the throttle body the problem went away. If you tested this car, then you probably realized that everything is harmonious in it and, as you can see, there are no analogues in this price category. But there are cons that annoy me personally:
1) soundproofing (treated by investing from 1 to 2 k$);
2) No rain sensor;
3) There is no air pollution sensor in the cabin (although there was a topic on the forum that it is there) - for a year of owning a car, I have never been able to observe its operation;
4) brakes!!! although if you do not drown in the floor is quite enough;
5) there is no function to open the 5th door from the key fob (not very convenient in dirty weather);
6) as a music lover, I don’t really like the regular system.
But all these little things (except for brakes) are easily replenished (for relatively little money), unlike additional options on Bmw.
All of the above is purely personal opinion.

The weak point of both models is that they are very sensitive to "left" and diluted fuel. The X5's fuel injectors can fail, while the FX's catalytic converter can break down over time, which can lead to engine failure. The plastic clips of the "German" cooling system during operation become not so elastic, and, due to loss of tightness, the engine may overheat. On the FX model, the throttle valve requires frequent cleaning, after which the electronic unit must be readjusted using a special tool. As for breakdowns, now in specialized service stations they will professionally eliminate any breakdown.

By nature, both cars are similar - their management is a great pleasure.

Appearance Infiniti QX70 and BMW X5

It is nothing more than an FX model that has survived the rebranding and is now positioned as a product that represents the brand's new direction.

However, the name change did not affect the appearance of the crossover in any way and it is almost completely preserved in its original form, with the exception of a different radiator grille with a chrome trim and large cells, more aggressive bumpers, new side mirror housings and rims.

In general, the car is still attractive and does not lose its charisma after many years, but the slanted lighting optics and fog lamps look rustic by today's standards and betray the age of the model.

But if appearance is a matter of taste, then Infiniti definitely has problems with geometric cross-country ability. In particular, its ground clearance is only 184 millimeters - such figures are unlikely to overcome a deep rut, and even a high curb can become an insurmountable obstacle for the "Japanese".

If we talk about, then he also retained the features of his predecessor, while his design went to a fundamentally different level and the Bavarian car looks very avant-garde, but at that time respectable and strict.

Fully LED headlight optics with arc-shaped daytime running lights, low body kit, massive bumpers, huge exhaust pipes and a rear spoiler are striking.

With all this, despite the clear accent of the exterior towards sportiness, the crossover clearance is quite impressive 214 millimeters. Therefore, on light off-road, he certainly does not save.

Car interiors

Luxurious in terms of finishing materials, well-assembled and ergonomic. However, its design may seem conservative and outdated to many.

This is especially noticeable on the dashboard. It has a beautiful bluish illumination of the indicators, but the on-board computer display lacks high-quality animation and is not very informative.

The large monitor of the multimedia entertainment complex does not have touch controls - all commands go through the keys of the block. On the one hand, it is convenient, on the other hand, it is archaic. The climate control is also controlled through the buttons, and finally, analog chronometers are installed on the console - obviously, as a tribute to the traditions from which the Japanese stubbornly refuse to deviate.

The driver's seat with powerful side support rollers has a well-adjusted profile and multiple adjustments. It will fit any driver configuration, while it will securely fix it during overloads.
