The Trail T31 all-wheel drive transmission has 3 operating rules - 2WD, Auto and Lock. From the factory, all torque is transferred to the front wheels, however, up to a speed of 70 km / h, it is possible to turn on the “Auto” mode, after which, during the slippage of one of the wheels, some of the torque will be directed to the rear wheels.

By connecting the Lock mode (it only works at a speed of no more than 40 kilometers per hour), the clutch discs are always fixed, and the thrust, together with simple differentials, is transmitted between the wheels of both axles in equal order.

They decided to take the Nissan C “trolley”, which was used on the crossover, as the basis for the second generation. The Xtrail received a McPherson-type suspension in front and a multi-link system in the rear.
