The number of cars entering the international market from China has increased significantly in recent years. We have already introduced you to various new products more than once, and today we will present another example of the Chinese automotive industry.

Our review hero was the 2014 FAW V5 2015, which is a budget B-class sedan. It is unlikely that anyone was surprised by the fact that it is a budget one. Plus, the car will be sold in our market. Since he has a frankly good, albeit not bright appearance, and the price tags are of interest, we consider it our duty to get to know the new product better.

We doubt that the sedan will quickly gain popularity and become some kind of super-sold car in the domestic market. Nevertheless, it can and should be considered as an alternative to Russian cars.

Our review will be devoted to the study of the FAV B5 car. We will get acquainted with the appearance of the novelty, look into its interior, introduce you to equipment options, and also don’t forget to offer you information regarding technical characteristics for dessert. Of course, we will definitely indicate the prices, which, in our opinion, are one of the most important advantages of the car.

Exterior

Here the Chinese automaker went down the beaten track and took as a basis the ideas of various Japanese, European and Korean cars that were discontinued in order to shape the appearance of their own sedan. From photo and video materials, even with an inexperienced eye, one can discern a certain similarity between the FAV B5 and the Volkswagen Polo. Especially the front and side. There are also some moments reminiscent of Hyundai Solaris and Renault Logan. Maybe the Chinese sedan looks no better than the German mastermind, but it is clearly more attractive than the Korean and French ones.

The front end houses rather small headlights that taper off at the junction with the false grille. It, in turn, is seasoned with three chrome bars and complemented by a large manufacturer's logo, which from afar resembles the Subaru nameplate. The front bumper is quite small, neat, with beautiful lines and aerodynamic elements. It is the bumper with its air intakes and brick-shaped fog lights that most of all resemble the Volkswagen Polo.

Side view is also good, which is good news. A compact engine compartment, large B-class side doors, well-designed and swollen wheel arches, stylish exterior mirrors with turn signal repeaters, a straight roof make the car practical, but clearly not ultra fashionable when viewed in profile. In any case, as for a Chinese car, it's pretty good.

At the rear, there is a large bumper, high verticality of the tailgate section, as well as some hints of aerodynamic elements. All this is complemented by good and pretty optics.

Let's say right away that appearance is far from the strongest side of the FAW V5. For its design, buyers obviously will not increase. Although the exterior can not be called bad. Yes, everything is restrained, concise and classically Chinese. But still there is a certain old-fashionedness in the car. A similar design has not been used for a long time, because it has outlived its own. Even the new Lada Granta, with which, in fact, the FAV B5 will compete, looks more interesting and modern.

The buyer will have a choice of seven body color options. So, the Chinese compact sedan can be ordered in black, blue, red, yellow, silver, gold and white enamel.

Now with regard to overall indicators. They are on the car:

Considering that the car belongs to the B-class, such dimensions look too modest. But there's nothing you can do about it.

Interior

This is where the whole essence of the budget of the car manifests itself. Let's be honest, the interior of the car is bad. Not catastrophically terrible, but still there are much more shortcomings and shortcomings than advantages.

It is immediately obvious that very cheap materials were used to create the interior. Yes, and the gaps between the elements of the dashboard, on the door cards and on the center console cause quiet horror. The plastic is hard, creaky, the line on the chairs is uneven. It seems that the interior was not made by a factory, but by some underground company that does everything at once.

Ergonomics also leave much to be desired. For example, the seats are too soft, there is almost no lateral support, even the buttons are pressed strangely. It is also impossible to adjust the seat belts, the position of the steering column is not adjusted. There are already doubts whether the car is worth even the modest money that the manufacturer asks for it.

The driver will have to drive the car with a simple and slippery steering wheel, navigate the dashboard, which consists of three dials, the intensity of the backlight in which is regulated, which is already something. The center console has a standard audio system on its territory, which supports radio, CD drives, and also allows you to connect USB. The first row does not constrain in space, therefore even people with a height of over 190 centimeters will be comfortable here.

In the decoration of the seats, artificial leather is used, which, with its quality, was somewhat surprised in the good sense of the word. The rear sofa is not bad, has a large pillow. But it is still oriented for two people, although the 2014 FAW V5 2015 is declared as a five-seater sedan. If desired, three of us can sit down, only the protrusion on the seat cushion itself, as well as the central transmission tunnel, will interfere with the person in the middle.

But landing on the back row commands respect. Although the doors are relatively small, they are large enough for their class. The cushion is placed high, and the front row seat is located a good distance from the floor, opening up enough space to place the legs in this opening. Plus, we note a high and even ceiling, which will be difficult to reach with the crown of the head even for a tall person. Well, for this you have to jump at least.

The luggage compartment turned out to be somewhat ill-conceived. No, by itself it has 420 liters of free space. But that's all. The rear row of seats cannot be folded down. Therefore, the luggage compartment is limited to a standard volume.

Equipment

But in terms of equipment, the FAV B5 car managed to rehabilitate itself somewhat for its shortcomings in the interior. On the Russian market, the car is offered in two configurations, which, by the way, are fixed. That is, taking the basic version and supplementing it with some chips of a more advanced configuration will not work.

But already in the Comfortable version, which plays the role of the base one, you will receive:

  • EBD and ABS security systems

  • basic audio system with 4 speakers
  • power windows on all side doors

At the same time, the Deluxe version allows you to get not so many additional options. In addition, you can’t exactly call them mandatory and necessary. One way or another, in this configuration option, your FAW V5 car will add:

That's all. These are the equipment options the company can offer in its B5 budget sedan.

Price

We will immediately move on to the Russian cost of the car, since the prices in the manufacturer's homeland are unlikely to interest any of you.

So, for the basic version of the model, be prepared to pay 390 thousand rubles. If you want a leather interior, rear parking sensors and moldings, then pay another twenty thousand and give 410 thousand rubles for the richest equipment for the Russian market.

The manufacturer is not going to spoil us with a variety of power units. But let's talk about something else first.

It is worth noting that the car received a suspension suitable for our roads. Even in areas where the road leaves much to be desired, the car is calm, behaves confidently, swallows holes well. Just what our car enthusiasts need. And in general, in technical terms, the FAV B5 looks good.

  • As for the motor, there is no alternative 1.5-liter petrol unit that produces 102 horsepower and 135 Nm of torque. Works in tandem with a five-speed manual gearbox.

As a result, the curb weight of the car is 995 kilograms. In a company with a motor, acceleration from standstill to hundreds takes 11.5 seconds, and the maximum speed can reach up to 180 kilometers per hour. According to passport data, the average consumption is 5.6 liters. However, owner reviews indicate that in fact the consumption is about 7-8 liters in the combined cycle.

Conclusion

We can say that even a relatively attractive price of 400 thousand rubles looks too high for a 2014 FAW V5 car. Frankly speaking, if the manufacturer had reduced the cost, the number of people wishing to acquire such a machine would have become much larger. There are too many choices in the segment of budget sedans for the buyer to choose it.

In general, FAW can be praised for trying. The design, although not modern, is still good, interesting, classic for a sedan. Salon, despite the poor assembly, still allows you to speak positively in terms of comfort. Yes, and the 102 horsepower engine, as it turned out, is quite lively and frisky, allows you to feel confident on the track and when overtaking.

So in the end, you can give the car a C-plus and hope that the next attempt by the Chinese automaker will be even better, and the pricing policy will be more reasonable.

Another Chinese car Faw V5 appeared in Russia in 2012. This was foreshadowed by wide advertising companies that positioned it only as an over-equipped budget class. Partially, this statement was confirmed.

In terms of external parameters, the car symbolizes itself as an ordinary sedan, with rounded shapes. Several cars were taken as a basis at once, this is a European, most likely a Volkswagen and a Japanese. The front part will please with unique details only in terms of optics, it is of its own design, both in terms of forms and equipment. Otherwise, everything is normal, there are no stampings, a simple and calm design, without bright and memorable moments.

The Faw V5 silhouette is more attractive in the photo, somewhat “front” or stern, similar to the Swedish models, this is especially noticeable in the roof slope, rear glazing structure, and bumper overhangs.

The stern is like a hodgepodge, representing an exposition of several sub-styles at once. The optics here are in full copy from Subaru, the only thing is that the shape and size have been corrected somewhere so that there is no obvious plagiarism. The bumper is similar to that of the second Solaris, the trunk lid, something in between Mitsubishi and Subaru. The fit of the body parts is not bad, but in some cars, even from the factory, wide gaps were visible in the parts, especially in the rear.

Interior

The salon inspires calmness, there are no flawed design motives here, everything is decorated in an attractive way. Perhaps somewhat archaic and isolated. What is more surprising is that the assembly interior is almost perfect, if in other models from the same manufacturer it is found that the interior has squeaks, large gaps, bugs, then you do not encounter these problems here.

By the way, not bad equipment and extra. materials, such as rugs, rugs were already in the database, and there was no need to pay extra for them.

The speedometer panel is in bright blue light, with a pleasant backlight without blinding cheap LEDs. There is a miniature BC, it was placed under a large “well”, but in general there are three deflectors themselves, which are responsible for the main indicators. The steering column is unpretentious, there is no functionality on it, it is ordinary in shape, three-spoke, but not to say that it is directly fashionable.

The main console FAV B5 is designed in a two-story style, a free-standing regular unit with a radio, a deflector, and a separate panel with climate settings. Naturally, there is no need to talk about a full-fledged climate. There is no tunnel as such, there is an ordinary block with a gear knob and a handbrake.

Seats, as for a budget class with a not bad structure, in any case, the profile is visible, it is, if not so obvious, but still there. There is enough space in the back, even the tunnel does not really interfere, the most surprising thing is that the interior is spacious, there is a lot of space. In general, I liked that the rear interior is not badly designed in terms of ergonomics, even the descending roof does not affect the condition.

Specifications

If you compare the Faw V5 and its technical characteristics, as the flagship model of the concern, you will be quite pleasantly surprised. Let the engine be proposed and one, but still the joint development with the Japanese has borne fruit. As for the motor, there are no significant shortcomings, it is a completely resourceful and tenacious unit, the reviews of the owners on the Fav B5 are generally positive, with the exception of one comment by a person on the forum, like from the city of Shcherbinka, that the motor “knocked”.

Judging from the other comments I've looked at, this seems to be an isolated case. One and a half liters of displacement allow it to generate about 102 "horses", not so much, but for such a machine this is beyond the norm. Judging by the information that the test drive has shown, the maximum speed is up to 180 km.

It should pass the first hundred in 12 seconds, but it managed to pass only in 13.4 seconds, perhaps the engine is already a little “tired”, or the fuel was “poured” of poor quality. In a pair, not only “mechanics” work, but also “automatic”, both gearboxes for 5-bands.

If you plan to buy a supported Fav B5, then first of all you will need to change the oil and oil filter. The oil filter is suitable for Russian cars, look for thread rims. Also pay attention to the fuse, there may have been some problems. So some argue that there have been cases when the block burned completely, damaging the entire line, up to the death of the battery.

According to the characteristics of the suspension, there will be many shortcomings, here the main role is played by the design features that are not conscientiously thought out primarily for the conditions in Russia. Dismantling Favs never empty, every owner has been there at least once, hoping to find analogues of spare parts.

Some components can even be picked up from domestic Lads, the same outer corner joint, stabilizer struts, stabilizer hinge, stabilizer front stop, oil filter Faw V5 fit from ordinary Samara, oddly enough.

The only question is how long the same stabilizer struts will live, given that a lot of the lever that is used at the back, despite the additional stabilizer crossbars, is very unreliable, and more than one set of spare parts will have to be changed. I am glad that it is not a problem to replace any spare parts for the Fav B5 with your own hands.

Options and prices

The cost of Fav B5 according to official reports of salons, within 500,000 rubles. For such a price offer the maximum version. In addition to it, two more modifications will be offered to Russian buyers. The cost of the difference is no more than 45,000 rubles, unless, of course, this is a remake and not a “secondary”, where the price of the Faw V5 is usually less.

We tried to add basic options to the minimum base, such as ABS, mirror drive, front power windows, fog lights, seat mounts, central locking, air conditioning.

The middle and top versions, in principle, have the same type of equipment, the cost will not increase to 485,000 and 500,000, respectively, it will also receive rear window heating, pillows, an SD radio, rear door windows, a headlight corrector, leather for decoration, start-stop , EBD, BA, heated mirrors and steering wheel.

The FAW V5 sedan made its debut in our country in October 2012 as part of the MIAS'2012 program dedicated to the entry into the Russian market of a new line of Chinese cars. If, until recently, all models of Chinese brands were imbued with the spirit of Japan, in varying degrees of imitation, then the new sedan is already closer to Europe. Of course, it is not possible to find super-original and new design solutions here.

The exterior of the new sedan is rather a compilation of traits peeped from competitors. It is very reminiscent of the German Volkswagen Polo sedan, especially in front, although it may not have that strict lines. At the same time, the compilation is quite successful. Does not cause rejection. Just take a look! Smooth streamlined lines of the body pass into a neat trunk shelf and, gradually rounding, break off at the lower cut of the rear bumper. The “face” is decorated, giving originality to the appearance, headlights with large “pupils” of high and low beam reflectors and orange turn signals in the inner corners.

In fact, this outwardly very nice model is fully consistent with the budget class. In terms of its overall dimensions (height - 1500 mm, length - 4245 mm, width - 1680 mm), the FAW V5 is closer to Renault Logan, although the Chinese sedan is 60 mm narrower in terms of wheelbase (2425 mm).

Now a few words about the body of the Chinese novelty. The body of the Chinese sedan has a reinforced structure, in particular, all doors are supplemented with steel cross beams, and the front bumper is equipped with a special energy-absorbing insert. FAW V5 is a bright representative of a new generation of Chinese cars, assembled almost at the Western level.


The gaps between the body parts, although somewhat large, are even and the same. It is still unknown how the body will behave in the conditions of the Russian winter. Judging by the reviews of the owners of other Chinese cars, the body is one of the weak links. As a rule, it begins to rust after the first winter.

Salon FAW V5 to match the exterior. It is made in a classic style. There are also few independent details here, but the Chinese managed to create a completely integral work from separately “borrowed” elements. In terms of interior decoration, the FAW V5 is very different from the first Chinese cars supplied to the Russian market, and fully meets modern requirements. The front panel of soft-looking plastic is divided in the middle by silver inserts that, after moving to the front doors, break off at the B-pillars to continue on to the rear doors. Although the controls are tightly grouped, access to them is convenient and does not cause difficulties. The instrument panel with three large dials has a pleasant bluish backlight. The devices themselves are notable for good information content and are perfectly readable at any time of the day.

The front seats fully meet the requirements for budget cars: four-way adjustment, a relief structure with lateral supports, and the presence of head restraints.


The second row is equipped with seat belts and child seat anchors. There is certainly less space here than in front, due to the protruding wheel arches, but two adults of average build can feel quite comfortable.

A small trunk pleases with a large opening, moderate loading height and the presence of a full-size spare wheel under the floor. And it upsets the protruding wheel arches, significantly reducing its volume.

The car is equipped with a 1.5-liter VCT-1 gasoline engine, paired with a five-speed "mechanics" or a five-band "automatic". 102 horsepower of this 16-valve engine is enough for a 995-kilogram sedan. FAW V5 accelerates briskly, delighting with excellent economic indicators: the average consumption of 92nd gasoline is about 6 liters per hundred. In motion, the novelty, although it does not indulge the driver with refined reactions, behaves quite decently in corners, tenaciously holding on to the road and not frightening with excessive rolls.

And what is gratifying - it's all for a very reasonable price. And why are Chinese cars attractive to the average buyer, besides the price itself? Of course, the "number of car" offered for it! You buy a "Chinese" - and that's it, your head is completely free from the choice of options.


Even in the most minimal configuration, it will have air conditioning, and frontal airbags, and power windows, and much more. And it’s worth paying a little extra (the amount is about 30-40 thousand rubles) and in addition you can get side airbags, xenon headlights, alloy wheels, and in some cases even a DVD player equipped with a rear-view camera.

In our case, the picture is almost the same. Russian buyers of the new Chinese sedan are offered in three trim levels: Comfortable (393 thousand rubles), Comfortable Plus (412 thousand rubles) and Deluxe (431 thousand rubles). Disappointing lack of front airbags as standard. But already in the second configuration of the sedan, this gap is eliminated. In addition, the sedan is equipped with a headlight range control, power windows for all doors, a USB connector for connecting external audio devices, etc. In the maximum configuration, the buyer will have access to a leather interior, a Stop-Start system, a brake assist system (BOS), and alloy wheels.

The new Chinese sedan, representing a new generation of cars from the Middle Kingdom, is trying to find its place in the most highly competitive class, where the championship still belongs to European cars. How he does it, time will tell.

Oddly enough, the Chinese car gives the impression of a strange mixture of domestic economy and European C-class.

At FAW V5, everything is pragmatic in Chinese. Many good nuances and, of course, not without flaws.

The first thing that catches your eye is the dimensions of the car. They seem to emphasize its roots. V5 is very compact and lightweight. And cramped.

Build quality is average and up to standard, but the devil is in the details and this is where the V5 comes in. It does not have an on-board computer, but it does have smart engine management systems. There are not enough airbags, but there is a whole range of active driver assistance systems. A good basic package, but some useful things are not even in the top. Budget finishing materials, but the look is stylish.

And such fun, as you get to know this car, you will notice more than once.

Well, now let's take a closer look - what is the unequivocal advantage of the FAW V5 and why is it chosen.

Let's start with the fact that FAW is one of the best in its class in terms of price and quality. Among competitors (about competitors later), he wins due to the expanded configuration, due to a good balance of efficiency and engine performance. Well, in other respects, V5 tries not to concede.

Economy and engine performance. The FAW V5 is equipped with the I-Save-System fuel saving system. ISS optimizes the balance between gas mileage and engine performance.

One of the main trump cards of FAW - the I Save (I save) and I Safe (I am saved) systems - the Chinese decided to name it through a play on words and confuse drivers. We give a breakdown: the purpose of the first is to optimize the operation of the engine, the second is a set of mechanical and electronic security measures.

The I-Save-System includes variable valve timing (VCT-I), electronic control of multipoint injection, this also includes an electronic gas pedal (E-Gas) and a Start-n-stop system.

Safety. In general, in terms of safety, FAW V5 follows the standards in its class. The I-Safe-System security system implies

In general, it would not be worth talking about the maximum possible safety for the manufacturer. And the Chinese crash tests (C-NCAP) V5 showed not the best results.

It is worth noting that in terms of safety, manufacturers did not lose heart and included the maximum number of options in all configurations.

In management. The car itself is quite light. Successful suspension, soft, well-oiled, does not attract attention. We can say adapted to our roads.

The engine is dynamic both at low speeds and during acceleration on the highway.

FAW factories produce components not only for cars of their brand, which they skillfully use. So we get the Toyota Yaris engine in the FAW V5. If anyone is interested.

On the road, the FAW V5 behaves confidently and calmly, it fits into turns smoothly, the steering is comfortable and even unusually light. Unless you have to get used to shifting gears.

Salon. There is everything you need (pockets, coasters, niches, drawers).

The Chinese are a patriarchal nation, so a make-up mirror for a lady - excuse me - is only on the passenger seat.

The dimensions of the cabin also, as it were, emphasize their origin. If in the front row this is noticeably small, then in the back row it is already enough. It all depends on your complexion. A person with impressive dimensions will definitely have to cringe. You can, of course, ride eight of us, and still place a couple in the trunk, but still it’s okay to ride comfortably with two or with a child.

On the front row, mechanical seat adjustment, in angle and horizontal. Lateral support is inexpressive. The backs of the seats are at least unusual, unusual. The same can be said about the back row (and also the fact that it is rigidly fixed). Although you should not jump to conclusions, whether the fit will be comfortable can be checked on a test drive.

The dashboard is almost ours, but perhaps reminiscent of Chinese holidays with the colorful colors of the sensors.

All prompts are tweeters (headlights not turned off, doors not closed, seat belts not fastened). That's besides the beeper of the level of gasoline.

The steering wheel is empty - just a steering wheel. Classic. Although everyone is already accustomed to the fact that the steering wheel was stuffed with buttons, like a TV remote control. (And soon the steering wheel will be touch-sensitive, like an iPhone.)

What is missing is the steering column and armrest adjustment. This is one of the most obvious downsides.

As for the finish - it's budget. But the Chinese still tried to give the cabin an attractive look, and they did it well.

And as for soundproofing - it means city driving, and on the highway it will remind you of itself. At high speeds, rattling of plastic and even side mirrors may also appear.
