Mazda CX 5 is on fire. Chronology of main events

debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show in the fall of 2011. Sales of the car in Europe and Russia started simultaneously at the beginning of 2012. The new product immediately became very popular in our market, although, of course, it did not immediately succeed in surpassing the then best-selling brand, which at that time was selling out like hot cakes. But today this crossover is the undisputed sales leader among other Mazda models presented in Russia.

Its arsenal includes a stylish and dynamic design, excellent driving performance and exciting handling, high-torque and economical engines, as well as high build quality and reliability (more on this later).

The CX-5 is built according to a traditional design for cars of this type: it has a monocoque body, independent suspension on all wheels, high ground clearance and an all-wheel drive transmission with an electronically controlled clutch in the rear axle drive. We also sell front-wheel drive versions, but only in the initial Drive and Active trim levels, and exclusively with a basic two-liter gasoline engine with 150 horsepower. By the way, besides this, the engine range also includes a 192-horsepower unit, as well as a 2.2-liter turbodiesel with a capacity of 175 hp. Unfortunately, the representative office of the Japanese company stopped accepting orders for diesel modifications of the crossover last year due to their immodest price tag, even by Mazda standards. True, there are still some left in dealer warehouses. In addition, our car enthusiasts are still quite wary of cars with heavy fuel engines. Transmissions are six-speed manual and automatic.

In February 2015, dealers began selling the Mazda CX-5. The updated crossover can be recognized by a modified radiator grille, different direction indicators in the side mirror housings, as well as LED headlights, fog lights and taillights. The car has improved sound insulation of the wheel arches and the engine compartment. Inside, the design of the climate control unit and center console has changed, and a more advanced MZD Connect infotainment system has appeared. Among the technical innovations, we note an electronic parking brake and a sports mode for the automatic transmission.

However, for Russian car enthusiasts, all these flattering reviews are not enough to recognize the Mazda CX-5 as one of the best in the class. A bestseller should also create a minimum of problems in operation and not ruin the content. And here the “five” has practically no equal. The car has been in production for five years and during this time some statistics of malfunctions have already accumulated. The first stone in the skeptics' garden was modern engines with proprietary Skyactive technology, which turned out to be so reliable that they are almost devoid of any congenital sores. True, these engines must be filled only with high-quality oil and its level must be periodically monitored. “Skyactive fours” waste oil, and its deficiency can lead to engine failure. Therefore, you need to make it a rule to monitor the level of special fluid at least once a week.

Among the unpleasant moments, we note that the valve and front cover gaskets lose their tightness by 50,000 km. However, replacing them is not at all burdensome. The ignition coils are at risk - there is one for each cylinder. Price - 6000-7000 rubles each. Also, ahead of time - at 40,000 km - the drive belt, which changes along with the roller, may fail. And further. The two-liter engine in the Russian CX-5 develops 150 horsepower, and in some markets (for example, America and Japan) this “four” produces 165. Dealers, if you ask them nicely, can return these 15 horsepower to your engine. back, electronic engine control unit.

Gearboxes are a priori reliable. Although, if you wish, you can kill them too, if you make it a rule to drive with the pedal to the floor, abruptly starting and braking. But the first to take the hit is the transfer case, or more precisely, its oil seals, which begin to sweat after 80,000 km from barbaric use. But these are still flowers. Such active driving also causes the transfer case cushions to fail, but they are not replaced separately - only together with the subframe. So, the replacement will cost 60,000 rubles.

In the suspension at 40,000-60,000 km, it is often necessary to change the front wheel bearings, which come complete with the hub (15,000 rubles). Around the same mileage, you will have to replace torn anthers. True, they cost pennies, but work from the officials will cost 3,500-5,000 rubles per pair. The brake discs are not very durable (7,500 rubles each), which, however, can withstand two pad replacements. In the steering, the left linkage is being updated, which, due to a design flaw, touches the rack casing. The part is replaced with a modernized one from 2200 rubles.

Electrical equipment will not cause problems, except for one-time cases of failure of the mirror folding mechanism (12,000 rubles per repair kit) and their control unit. It happens that the limit switch of the automatic mode switching lever becomes unusable. True, the officials have learned to repair this unit for mere pennies.

Mazda CX‑5 is the first model built on Skyactiv technologies. They were used in the development of many components of the car: gearboxes, as well as the chassis and body.

In addition to setting a general new vector in the creation of cars, Skyactiv, in particular, has become an alternative to European downsizing and robotic gearboxes. The Japanese have remained committed to naturally aspirated gasoline engines and classic automatic transmissions, which clearly contributed to the success of the CX‑5 in our market. The competitiveness of the new crossover was increased by assembly in Vladivostok.

The car quickly became a bestseller and helped the manufacturer maintain its position in our market during the crisis years. Today, the first generation CX‑5 is a tasty morsel in the secondary market.

The battery, which supports the “Start-Stop” function, is whimsical. When replacing it, it is necessary to install the original battery or carefully select a suitable replacement. Otherwise, all sorts of system malfunctions are likely.

Having installed a new battery, it is necessary to initialize it (the number of engine starts and the age of the battery), otherwise the “brains” of the engine will charge it incorrectly, which will lead to a reduction in service life. In addition, the battery does not tolerate deep drawdowns: its plates may crumble.

Replacing an expensive windshield requires special attention. It is equipped with a removable frame with a rain sensor, a laser rangefinder for the autonomous braking system in the city and a light-sensitive camera. As a rule, on cheaper non-original glasses, all this electronics begins to work incorrectly; Most often the culprit is an additional strip or a displacement of the frame mounting location. But the original ones can have the same consequences - it is very important to carefully remove and install the frame with sensors. And you can’t glue tinting strips.

The cause of most problems with body electrics is poor quality or installation of non-standard additional equipment. Modern Mazdas are especially sensitive to it - the new model begins to fail over time and brings with it a lot of non-trivial faults.

The folding mechanism for the side rear view mirrors is frankly weak. The drive can break even with a small additional load, for example due to ice crust on the housing. This also happens when folding mirrors by hand. Previously, for this reason, it was necessary to change the mirror housing assembly, but later the manufacturer released a relatively inexpensive repair kit.

The paintwork is a bit thin. This applies to all modern Mazdas, regardless of place of production. Chips appear quite quickly, but do not rust for a long time - the quality of the metal and its anti-corrosion treatment is decent. The body has no weak points, so pockets of corrosion when inspecting the car will indicate precisely the consequences of an accident and poor-quality repairs.

On cars of the first year of production, the rear view camera failed. Due to poor sealing, water got inside during washing and shorted the CAN bus. As a result, a variety of electrical faults occurred. The manufacturer promptly released an upgraded camera. And during a warranty replacement of the previous one, the servicemen installed an additional seal.

The quality of domestic assembly is not satisfactory. Many service technicians have seen cars from Japan and do not notice any noticeable difference.

The Skyactiv 2.2 diesel, like gasoline units, has undergone major modernization to ensure a very low compression ratio for heavy fuel engines: only 14.0. However, fortune turned against the Japanese engineers - the engine turned out to be extremely unreliable. Moreover, it was not the engine base that failed, but the attachments.

The vacuum pump, which is driven by one of the camshafts, behaves completely unpredictably. At any mileage, the unit may simply fall apart. And a huge volume of metal shavings spreads throughout the engine, which clogs the oil channels. in this case it is not economically feasible. Moreover, according to servicemen, the manufacturer never upgraded the pump.

The second destructive flaw is unreliable fastenings of the fuel injectors. Over time, they weaken, and the injectors begin to “jump” due to the gas pressure in the cylinders. As a result, carbon deposits accumulate at the place where they land - and the injectors are constantly in a suspended state. As a result, an even greater flow of exhaust gases enters the block head, leading to coking of the oil channels. Because of this, oil starvation begins... The motor can be sent to a landfill.

These two problems became the reason for carrying out: during a preventive inspection of cars, dealers tighten the injector mounts, check for errors in oil pressure and remove the valve cover to assess the level of contamination and the condition of the vacuum pump. Mostly, assistance is provided on time, but it has happened that motors were replaced as a whole under warranty. Unfortunately, nowhere is there a clear threshold for the level of contamination, and in the absence of fault codes, dealers should not do anything. And since absolutely all arriving cars have loose injector fastenings, the oil channels are already coked to one degree or another, which leads to a reduction. But the main fleet of diesel CE-X-5s is already out of warranty.

On cars of the first years of production, there was significant wear on the camshaft cams, which led to strong engine rumble. The manufacturer eventually corrected this defect.

It's a shame that diesel suffers from such ridiculous ailments, because otherwise it does not cause any trouble at all. Moreover, the listed malfunctions are typical not only for Russian cars. In Europe, the corresponding statistics are larger - also because the fleet of diesel cars there is much larger.

The Skyactiv 2.0 and 2.5 petrol engines have a very high compression ratio (14.0 and 13.0, respectively), which required a significant design change. Many feared that these sophisticated engines would be extremely capricious and unreliable. However, they do not suffer from serious problems, although they have some operational features.

The engines are identical in design. Apart from the larger displacement and slightly lower compression ratio, the 2.5 engine differs from the 2.0 only in the presence of a block of balancer shafts and an oil heat exchanger. Therefore, the weak points of these units are the same.

They have a good appetite for oil, which was also typical for engines of the previous generation. The 2.5 engine has noticeably higher oil consumption than the two-liter engine, so it is extremely important to monitor its level. In case of oil starvation, the connecting rod bearings are the first to give up in both units. If there is a knock in the engine, you should immediately contact a service station - this will protect you from more serious damage.

Direct injection fuel injectors are sensitive to fuel quality. If you refuel at dubious gas stations and turn a blind eye to the symptoms of clogged injectors, you will have to change them after 100,000 km - it will not help. Significant clogging of the injectors leads to difficulty starting a cold engine; the fault code indicates a misfire. However, you have to wash the injectors on the CX‑5 no more often than on cars of other brands.

The plastic tensioner pulley on the harness requires attention. It quickly develops wear and tear, which can cause the belt to break. This is a massive problem. An original repair kit consisting of a separate roller and belt is available on the market. Sometimes the hydraulic roller tensioning mechanism leaks - it is available as a separate spare part.

On the first cars, expensive ignition coils with a built-in ion knock sensor quickly died. Upgraded items were released. On the lion's share of cars, they managed to change the coils under warranty, but there is still a chance of running into “pre-reform” parts. Important: the presence of knock sensors in the coils requires the use of appropriate spark plugs (the instruction manual contains two numbers: the original and the replacement). Most spare parts catalogs contain unreliable information about the applicability of other substitutes.

Sometimes the front cover of the engine fogs up. When oversealing it, you need to put more sealant in the junction area with the cylinder block and head, otherwise fogging will return. And the work isn't cheap!

Cars from the first two years of production with a 2.0 engine were noted. The successful start of a cold engine only on the second or third attempt at near-zero temperatures was associated with the firmware of the control unit - the air-fuel mixture was created in the cylinders too lean. The manufacturer has fixed the problem by releasing updated software.

Automatic boxes are almost identical in design. The version with the index GW6A is enhanced for higher torque (for example, it has more discs in clutch packs) and is paired with a diesel engine. not recorded with her. But the FW6A series automatic machine, designed for gasoline engines, was noted for its unpleasant features. “Pre-reform” cars are at risk, but there are nuances that also affect the restyled CX‑5.

On cars of the first years of production, dealers often changed the box assembly. The reason was hidden in the active wear of the so-called reverse clutch, part of which is built into the body of the machine, which is why it cannot be changed separately (there are no spare parts or repair technology).

Clutch wear is accompanied by the active formation of metal shavings and the appearance of characteristic jerks when shifting gears.

The manufacturer quickly released new software for the control unit of the box (a service campaign for flashing was carried out), and complaints about it practically stopped. However, on “pre-reform” cars, automatic machines are sometimes changed to this day, and more often on cars with a more powerful and torquey 2.5 engine - due to the increased load on the box.

There are two main symptoms of a breakdown. On a warm box, noticeable shocks occur when the selector is moved from “neutral” to “reverse” or “drive,” as well as when switching from second to third gear at relatively high engine speeds (3000–4000 rpm). This can be easily checked during a test drive.

If you track the first ones in time, there is a chance to save him before chips get into the hydraulic system. It is necessary to carry out complex work - flashing plus the so-called adaptation of the box using diagnostic equipment. Theoretically, this could help on restyled cars, because the manufacturer has already released more than one software update. Keep in mind that a separate adaptation gives only a short-term positive effect in the operation of the machine. With the correct firmware and adequate operation, the machine will last 100,000 km. It is important to use original Mazda ATF-FZ oil. The box is very sensitive to the quality of the oil.

In our market, a manual transmission (index C66) was available only for front-wheel drive cars with a 2.0 gasoline engine. Such versions of the CX‑5 were in extremely limited demand, so statistics on this unit are very scarce. I note that service technicians have never encountered faulty boxes even on cars with a mileage of 200,000 km.

The CX-5 has all the amplifier components built into the steering column. This scheme rarely causes trouble, because “ordinary” steering mechanisms are reliable.

Owners of cars from the first year of production contacted servicemen with complaints about a knocking sound when driving over bumps with the wheels turned to the left. It arose due to play in the steering rods. The manufacturer promptly produced modernized parts and replaced the old ones on the assembly line with them.

The weak link is the bevel gear. Quite often the shank oil seal and internal cuffs leak. By the way, the inner cuffs sweat much more often on the CX-7 model.

It is important for owners of “pre-reform” CX‑5 not to delay replacing the internal seals of the gearbox, on which traces of leaks are visible. Quite rarely, but it still happens that the cuff separating the cavities of the machine and the transfer case is damaged. This is dangerous, because the box fluid (ATF) under pressure and in large volumes enters the gearbox, into which a different type of fluid is poured. And the machine can suffer from oil starvation.

All suspension parts have an enviable service life. In this regard, the CX‑5 is an exemplary car. For example, the silent blocks of the front levers begin to crack and tear only after 200,000 km. Only occasionally do you have to change the front stabilizer struts.

Low quality fuel significantly reduces the service life of the neutralizer on cars with gasoline engines. Fortunately, in case of possible shedding of its filler, ceramic dust does not enter the cylinders due to the absence of an exhaust gas recirculation system. Oxygen sensors are highly resistant.

So far, service technicians have not encountered any cars with a clogged diesel particulate filter. At the same time, there was an action to reflash the engine control unit. The updated software simplifies the conditions under which automatic filter regeneration starts, even in urban driving mode.

Important point! The breather of the electric all-wheel drive clutch is routed through a hose into the luggage compartment. Moreover, it is made flush in the right niche of the compartment, which is located below the level of the main floor. Spilled water can easily get into the coupling and quickly finish it off, while the unit begins to make a loud noise, like an angle grinder.

We came across cars with poorly installed roof rails (non-standard additional equipment). Through their fastenings and seals, water enters the same niche. The manufacturer even issued a technical bulletin, in accordance with which an updated breather is installed. The modernized part protrudes significantly above the niche level and has a valve.

Sound insulation on Mazdas is mediocre. There are exposed sheets of metal in the cabin. Therefore, work on installing additional “Shumka” is in great demand.

The quality of the interior trim elements is low. The first thing to go is the steering wheel trim. Leather upholstery wears out quite quickly (the paint comes off).

Bose door speakers (especially the front ones) are very susceptible to moisture. All Mazdas have condensation in their doors. An additional dangerous amount of moisture enters during frequent driving with the windows slightly open in rain and snow or after poor-quality body repairs. Because of this, the membranes on the speakers, which are quite expensive, peel off, and they begin to rattle and wheeze.

Sometimes the mechanism for adjusting the height of the driver's seat breaks or a noticeable play in the frame appears (overweight drivers experience this more often than others). Frame play is eliminated by installing modernized locking washers at its base. If the rather flimsy mechanism for adjusting the seat height breaks down, you will have to change the frame.

A WORD TO THE SELLER

Mazda CX‑5 is a mega-liquid car, noticeably superior in consumer qualities to everyone in its segment. He is the best in this price niche. In addition, the CX‑5 captivates with its successful combination of naturally aspirated petrol engines and a classic automatic transmission, which is highly valued on the Russian market.

The most in demand are cars with a 2.5 petrol engine, in top-end configuration. Since there are few such offers on the market, people willingly buy any version of the crossover, even the cheapest. The type of drive and gearbox does not play a special role, as do the interior materials.

I recommend cars with a 2.5 petrol engine. It is paired with an uncontested combination of automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, as well as an initially very rich package of additional options. In addition, this engine has higher dynamic performance compared to a two-liter unit, while not being too power-hungry.

The other side of the coin is the abundance of fraudulent advertisements and a large percentage of outright auto junk. Therefore, a used Mazda CX‑5 must be chosen extremely carefully. It is worth entrusting this work to professional selectors.

RESULT

Mazda CX‑5 is a quite successful crossover, except for modifications with a dangerous diesel engine. With reasonable operation, the car, even after 200,000 km, only requires expenses for scheduled maintenance. To ensure that you avoid possible costly faults that were not corrected during the warranty period, do not buy cars from the first two years of production.

    INTRODUCTION

For the first time, the K1 class compact crossover Mazda CX-5 was presented to the public at the Geneva Motor Show in 2011. In the same year, the production version of the model premiered at the Frankfurt Auto Show. The car, which found its niche among the larger representatives of the CX line of models CX-7 and CX-9, quickly gained well-deserved popularity, confirmed by two annual “Car of the Year” awards in Japan in 2012-2013.
Since 2012, the model has been assembled not only at the Japanese plant in Hiroshima, but also in Vladivostok. And this is no coincidence: the CX-5 accounts for almost three-quarters of sales of all Mazda cars on the Russian market. The greatest demand for this model traditionally falls on the North American market - more than one hundred thousand cars annually. In other words, an absolute bestseller and the basis of the Japanese automaker's wealth!
Constantly stirring up interest in their crossover and, as always, quickly responding to criticism and customer wishes, Mazda engineers periodically updated the model. The first such update occurred in 2013, just two years after the start of sales. Since there were no complaints about the appearance of the crossover, the design remained the same, except that three new body colors appeared. The main changes affected the interior: fabric armrests in the doors were replaced by leatherette (even in the version with a fabric interior), the seats received more lateral support, and the audio system head unit was modified - a function for reading SMS messages was added and menu scrolling was improved.
The next update took place in 2015. Like two years earlier, Japanese engineers did not make revolutionary reforms, but made do with a purely external facelift. The most noticeable change is the radiator grille, in which horizontal bars have replaced small cells. The design of the front fog lights has also changed, and the headlights and taillights, in keeping with the latest automotive fashion, now have LED inserts.

In November 2016, the full second generation Mazda CX-5 premiered at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
With the same wheelbase of 2700mm, the model has become 10mm longer and 35mm lower. The designers left the crossover with a recognizable appearance, but at the same time they thoroughly worked on redesigning the front part: the signature radiator grille with a lower chrome edging expanded slightly, new diode headlights became narrow, and flat fog lights appeared in the completely redesigned bumper.

The angle of the windshield has increased due to the displacement of the front roof pillars by 3 mm - this has a positive effect on the driver's visibility and aerodynamics. The appearance of the tailgate and rear bumper has also changed, the rear lights have LED inserts and have become more compact. In general, the silhouette of the car has become more rapid, and the drag coefficient has been reduced by 6%.

The interior features good ergonomics and high-quality finishing materials. The seats can be upholstered in fabric or leather. Various systems are controlled both using a puck on the center console and via a touch screen. As befits a modern car, the Mazda CX-5 is equipped with USB connectors and ports for players, a Bluetooth wireless communication system, and even has navigation in Russian. Among the main improvements of the new product, it is worth noting the steering wheel from the CX-9 and the 7-inch touch screen of the infotainment system, which traditionally supports the Android and iOS operating systems, which has moved to the very top of the center console. In addition, the designers added 40 kg of additional sound insulation, so the cabin is quiet even at high speeds.

The trunk volume has increased from 443 to 506 liters compared to the previous generation model. And by folding the rear seatbacks separately (in a 40/20/40 ratio), you can increase the useful space of the luggage compartment to 1620 liters. More expensive trim levels can now be equipped with a tailgate servo.

The line of power units of the second generation Mazda CX-5 consists of gasoline engines with a displacement of 2 liters (depending on settings - 150 hp or 165 hp) and 2.5 liters (194 hp), as well as two turbodiesels with a displacement of 2.2 liters (150 hp or 17 5 hp). Power units can be equipped with six-speed manual or automatic transmissions. The car is offered in two versions: only with front-wheel drive and with all-wheel drive.
The suspension has undergone significant changes: it has been softened to improve the smoothness of the ride, and the usual rubber-metal silent blocks of the lower arms have been replaced with hydraulic mounts, which dampen vibrations from the road in a certain frequency range. The front McPherson struts now have larger valves, and the springs on the left and right are different to more effectively unload the rods from lateral forces and reduce friction. The pitch angle of the front wheels (or, as it is also called, castor) of the new car is as much as 7 degrees, just like a racing vehicle. The steering gear is now attached to the subframe not by means of rubber mounts, but directly, which provides more distinct feedback on the steering wheel.
The second generation Mazda CX-5 is a car that combines striking design, comfort and dynamism.
This manual provides instructions for the operation and repair of all modifications of the Mazda CX-5 produced since 2017.

Fuel tank filler flap and plug
Attention:
When opening the fuel filler cap, first unscrew the cap slightly and wait until the release of fuel vapor, accompanied by a characteristic hissing sound, stops. Then unscrew and remove the cover completely. Fuel splashes are dangerous. Fuel can cause burns to the skin and eyes, and can also lead to poisoning if it enters the gastrointestinal tract. Fuel may splash out of the filler neck if there is excessive pressure in the fuel tank and the filler cap is unscrewed and removed too quickly.
Before filling the fuel tank, turn off the engine and always ensure that there are no sparks or open flames near the filler neck. Do not smoke when refueling your vehicle. Fuel vapors are dangerous. These vapors can be easily ignited by sparks or open flames, causing severe burns and injury. In addition, using an incorrect fuel cap that is not designed for your vehicle may cause fuel to leak or splash out, resulting in severe burns or death in the event of an accident.
Do not attempt to continue refueling after the fuel dispenser has automatically switched off. Attempting to continue refueling after the dispenser has automatically switched off is dangerous because it may cause the tank to overfill or leak. Splashing or leaking fuel can damage your vehicle and, if the fuel catches fire, cause a fire or explosion, resulting in serious injury or death.
Always use only a genuine Mazda branded fuel filler cap or a fully equivalent Mazda approved product. To purchase a cover, contact an authorized Mazda dealer service station. Installing a cap that is not intended for your vehicle may impair the performance of the engine fuel supply system, as well as the fuel vapor recovery system.

The red Mazda CX-5 set out on a long testing journey on May 13, 2013. Testing of the crossover by the editors of the German magazine “Auto Bild” took place in strict accordance with the plan. From the very first kilometers, the SUV began to collect positive reviews. Most entries praise the 2.2-litre turbodiesel and the well-balanced, comfortable chassis. As you probably guessed, this combination made the Japanese crossover the most popular vehicle for long trips.

During testing, we were pleased with such pleasant details as USB and AUX connectors in the armrest and fast-acting heated seats. After 15,000 km, the test editor summarized: “A pleasant car. Suspension, engine, seats, effective navigation system and spacious interior - the car is four and a half points on a 5-point scale.”

Despite the fact that a number of shortcomings were soon discovered, none of them changed the positive attitude towards the Mazda CX-5. Among the most annoying little things, it is worth noting the following: a license plate light that constantly falls out of its holder, door pockets that are too small, carelessly laid carpet and poor rear visibility.

The carpet is attached very weakly: one movement of the hand, and it forms a slide.

Unfortunately, the idyll soon ended. At the 34,224 km mark, while driving on the highway, the Mazda CX-5 revealed its dark mask. The engine warning light came on and the oil level was too low. This scared the driver seriously. As if this were not enough, the on-board computer warned of the risk of engine seizure.

I had to react quickly: braking, moving into the emergency lane and turning off the engine. The hood is up, the dipstick is in your hands, and on it... there is a normal oil level. After starting the engine, all messages disappeared, as if by magic. Is it possible that this was a false alarm?

Not really. From that moment on, the message appeared quite regularly, and then disappeared again. Of course, this is not a normal situation. Therefore, it was decided to reduce the waiting time for the next maintenance scheduled for 40,000 km, and visit the service now. After draining the old oil, it was discovered that the lubricant was very worn and diluted. It’s strange that the on-board computer did not suggest rushing to visit the service. Perhaps Mazda engineers should take care of this...

Perhaps the computer would have reported this if, during a previous visit to the service, the mechanics of the dealership had installed the latest version of the ECU software available at that time on the test Mazda CX-5. Amnesia prevented service employees from updating navigation maps. Badly! - this is said very mildly. Fortunately, nothing could hold back the Mazda CX-5, and it boldly swallowed thousands of kilometers. Everything went according to plan, and the crossover again and again received flattering reviews from test editors.

At 87,389 km, the ominous engine warning light came on again. Another unplanned visit to an official service center again revealed the inevitability of the influence of the human factor. During a recent maintenance visit, the mechanic forgot to restart the on-board computer. Therefore, the smart piece of hardware assessed the current condition of the oil based on outdated data and concluded that it was time to replace it.

The trunk volume is 503 liters, and with the rear seatbacks folded down it is 1620 liters.

Two mistakes by experts during one test? It's too much. Mazda representatives were equally concerned about what was happening and breathed a sigh of relief when the Mazda CX-5 crossed the finish line at 100,000 km. But it's too early to relax. Ahead is a complete disassembly of the car. Everything was going great until the moment when the front brakes fell into the hands of specialists. DEKRA's expert stated that the brake linings had collapsed and left deep scratches on the brake disc.

It was discovered by chance that the installed brake pads were intended for short trips. They are not suitable for continuous and long trips. Condition of the pad after 20,000 km and final measurements of dynamics and braking.

Guess whose fault this is? That's right, once again the Mazda service in Germany failed. During an extreme inspection of the brakes, someone came up with the brilliant idea to install non-original budget pads on the test Mazda CX-5, suitable for rare and short trips. After a while, the owner would hardly be able to notice it. Mazda engineers were surprised to hear such conclusions and could not believe it, claiming that dealer services install only original components. If this happens in civilized Germany, then why be surprised in Russia?

A real spectacle. The plastic protection works perfectly. Engine, transmission and attachments are clean and dry.

Thus, the German Mazda dealer network showed dark spots on its impeccable reputation. These events ruined the chances of the test Mazda CX-5 to take the top spot in the endurance rating. Fortunately, the shortcomings did not affect the positive attitude towards the car, as well as the excellent condition of the components inspected after dismantling. The Mazda CX-5 with a 2.2-liter diesel engine is an excellent car, which deservedly received an “excellent” rating.

The boost pressure is generated by a two-stage turbocharger. This technique guarantees a powerful increase in traction even at low revs. After 100,000 km it is in excellent condition.

Chronology of main events

11,600 km – the right license plate light bulb falls out of the retainer.

36,224 km – alarm message about the oil level being too low.

45,997 km – excellent performance on snow.

50,521 km – high engine speeds after a “cold” start. Irritating at low temperatures.

80,440 km – replacement of front brake discs and pads.

87 389 – the “engine malfunction” light comes on. Another unplanned visit to the service.

The plastic covers on the bottom of the body are secured using plastic clips. But during the test they all got loose.

Conclusion

As it turned out, even careless maintenance could not stop the Mazda CX-5 on its way to the finish line, and did not prevent it from receiving high marks. If the mechanics had been more attentive and responsible, the Mazda CX-5 could well have become the leader in the rating. In any case, the car left behind only positive impressions. Mazda has once again proven that its cars are reliable, and they rightfully occupy the highest positions in the Auto Bild ranking.
