How to change the oil in a suzuki jimny automatic transmission. How to change the oil in a suzuki jimny automatic transmission box What kind of oil to fill in

On Jimny, I prefer to change the ATF with a partial replacement of "leaked-filled". It changes (usually) no more than 2 liters, but I try to make such replacements more often. But since the run for 100 t.km and the operating conditions cannot be called easy, I decided to remove the pan and change the automatic transmission filter. Moreover, he removed part of the exhaust tract, which simplifies the task.

Remind me that I have Automatic transmission after the so-called. reystaling 2004.

According to the instructions, before unscrewing the pan, you need to unscrew a piece of the exhaust tract (which passes under the automatic transmission) and the upper part of the dipstick tube (it is simply inserted into the lower one and bolted somewhere to the body). I don’t know, maybe someone manages to do without these actions, but the path was already unscrewed, and it’s not so difficult to unscrew one tube fastening bolt if you can crawl by hand.

Even before unscrewing the pan, you need to drain the ATF and be sure to screw the drain plug back on! Quite a lot of ATF remains in the pan; when removed, this liquid will definitely pour through the drain hole.

There is still about 1 liter in the pan, i.e. in total, he drained about 3 liters in this way, which is more than usual, but less when as many as 4 liters have merged.

In the tray (pictured in the left and left upper parts) there are two magnets for collecting metal dust. There was a small deposit on the pallet and magnets, but not to say that much.

This is what the automatic transmission looks like without a pallet:

Be careful, ATF will still drip. Now you can unscrew the filter (three bolts):

To replace the new filter 26570-76J10.

A sealing gum is placed on the filter, it is not included in the kit! You can rearrange from the old filter, but I decided to change it just in case, since there is an opportunity. Part number 26545-54J10.

Also replaced the pan gasket. Part number 24784-66H10

And not in vain. The original gasket did not leak, but after removal it felt like hard plastic.

Collected everything. ATF is different now.

An oil change in a Suzuki Jimny gearbox is most often associated with the repair of the automatic transmission itself, or it is replaced with a new one in the course of repairing oil leaks, since it must be drained for work. The oil in the automatic transmission is filled in by the manufacturer once for the entire life of the car. It is recommended to entrust the oil change in the Suzuki Jimny automatic transmission to professionals, but in some cases this operation can be done on your own.

Functions of ATF oil in automatic transmission Suzuki Jimny:

  • effective lubrication of rubbing surfaces and mechanisms;
  • reduction of mechanical load on the nodes;
  • heat dissipation;
  • removal of microparticles resulting from corrosion or wear of parts.
The color of ATF oil for Suzuki Jimny automatic transmission allows not only to distinguish oils by type, but also helps to find out in the event of a leak from which system the fluid escaped. For example, the oil in automatic transmission and power steering has a red tint, antifreeze is green, and in the engine it is yellowish.
Reasons for oil leakage from automatic transmission in Suzuki Jimny:
  • wear of automatic transmission seals;
  • wear of the shaft surfaces, the occurrence of a gap between the shaft and the sealing element;
  • wear of the automatic transmission sealing element and the speedometer drive shaft;
  • play of the input shaft of the automatic transmission;
  • damage to the sealing layer in the joints between parts of the automatic transmission: sump, automatic transmission housing, crankcase, clutch housing;
  • loosening of the bolts that provide the connection of the above parts of the automatic transmission;
A low oil level in a Suzuki Jimny automatic transmission is the main cause of clutch failure. Due to the low fluid pressure, the friction clutches are poorly pressed against the steel discs and do not have enough contact with each other. As a result, the friction linings in the Suzuki Jimny automatic transmission become very hot, charred and destroyed, significantly contaminating the oil.

Due to a lack of oil or low-quality oil in the Suzuki Jimny automatic transmission:

  • plungers and channels of the valve body are clogged with mechanical particles, which leads to a shortage of oil in the packages and provokes wear of the bushing, rubbing parts of the pump, etc.;
  • the steel disks of the gearbox overheat and wear out quickly;
  • rubber-coated pistons, thrust discs, clutch drum, etc. overheat and burn;
  • the valve body wears out and becomes unusable.
Contaminated automatic transmission oil cannot fully remove heat and provide high-quality lubrication of parts, which leads to various malfunctions of the Suzuki Jimny automatic transmission. Heavily contaminated oil is an abrasive suspension that, under high pressure, creates a sandblasting effect. Intense impact on the valve body leads to thinning of its walls at the locations of the control valves, as a result of which numerous leaks can occur.
You can check the oil level in a Suzuki Jimny automatic transmission using a dipstick. The dipstick has two pairs of marks - the upper pair of Max and Min allows you to determine the level in hot oil, the lower pair - in cold. Using the dipstick, it is easy to check the condition of the oil: you need to drop the oil onto a clean white cloth.

When choosing a Suzuki Jimny automatic transmission oil for replacement, you should be guided by a simple principle: it is best to use oil recommended by Suzuki. At the same time, instead of mineral oil, semi-synthetic or synthetic oil can be poured, but in no case should an oil “class lower” than prescribed be used.

Synthetic oil for automatic transmission Suzuki Jimny is called "non-replaceable", it is poured for the entire life of the car. Such oil does not lose its properties under the influence of high temperature and is designed for a very long period of use of the Suzuki Jimny. But we must not forget about the appearance of a mechanical suspension as a result of friction clutch wear with a very significant mileage. If the automatic transmission has been operated for some time in conditions of lack of oil, it is necessary to check the degree of its contamination and, if necessary, replace it.

Ways to change the oil in an automatic transmission Suzuki Jimny:

  • Partial oil change in a Suzuki Jimny box;
  • Complete oil change in a Suzuki Jimny box;
A partial oil change in a Suzuki Jimny automatic transmission can be done independently. To do this, just unscrew the drain on the pallet, driving the car onto the overpass, and collect the oil in a container. Usually up to 25-40% of the volume flows out, the remaining 60-75% remain in the torque converter, that is, in fact, this is an update, not a replacement. To update the oil in the Suzuki Jimny automatic transmission to the maximum in this way, 2-3 changes will be required.

A complete automatic transmission oil change for Suzuki Jimny is carried out using an automatic transmission oil change unit, auto repair specialists. In this case, more ATF oil will be required than the Suzuki Jimny automatic transmission can accommodate. Flushing takes one and a half or double the volume of fresh ATF. The cost will be more expensive than a partial replacement, and not every car service provides such a service.
Partial ATF oil change in a Suzuki Jimny automatic transmission according to a simplified scheme:

  1. We unscrew the drain plug, drain the old ATF oil;
  2. We unscrew the automatic transmission pan, which, in addition to the bolts holding it, is treated along the contour with a sealant.
  3. We get access to the automatic transmission filter, it is advisable to change it at each oil change, or rinse it.
  4. At the bottom of the pallet there are magnets that are necessary to collect metal dust and chips.
  5. We clean the magnets and wash the pallet, wipe it dry.
  6. Install the automatic transmission filter in place.
  7. We install the automatic transmission pan in place, replacing the gasket of the automatic transmission pan if necessary.
  8. We twist the drain plug, replacing the drain plug gasket for the automatic transmission.
We fill the oil through the technological filler hole (where the automatic transmission dipstick is located), using the dipstick we control the oil level in the automatic transmission to a cold one. After changing the oil in the automatic transmission, it is important to check its level after driving 10-20 km, already with the automatic transmission warmed up. Top up to level if necessary. The regularity of changing the oil depends not only on the mileage, but also on the nature of the ride on the Suzuki Jimny. You should focus not on the recommended mileage, but on the degree of contamination of the oil, systematically checking it.

    Is the Suzuki Jimny automatic or manual? Which is better? (City, hunting, fishing) I want to buy a new Suzuki Jimny (2019) on the Automatic (Automatic transmission).

    oh helpful!! Let me know about the first signs! Thank you)

    I have a right hand drive, the dipstick is on the left, on the passenger side. Jimny Sierra 2002

    Who knows what is the reason for the transmission freezing from 2 to 1 seconds 4-5 resets, at traffic lights it’s not convenient when you need to slow down, then you have to wait until it resets to the first one, otherwise you will give the gas ahead of time and kick with a slip! I partially changed the oil twice, nothing changed (there is a suspicion that in summer the effect is enhanced, in winter it was better.

    Everything to the point and nothing more 👍👍👍

    Very good video! It's just unrealistically useful and accessible. Even my wife appreciated it.

    Yes, after such an owner, 🚘 I would buy without hesitation Thank you, everything is clear, harmonious, synchronous ..

    Very useful video, nice to get detailed information from a competent person. Good luck in the future! I’ll deviate a little from the topic, I became interested in this Suzuka, if it’s not difficult for you, answer a few questions: - is it worth taking a jimny on the machine? (Will the off-road potential remain the same, maybe there are some moments where even with experience, the machine will not take out?); - is it worth putting Velcro tires in winter on jimny, in conditions like yours?; - is it possible to drive a jimny with 4WD on for a long time? More specifically, would it be safe to ride a jimny in winter with Velcro on, rear-wheel drive? And if not, the same question, only on a permanent full and will he be able to do this all winter?

    • I don’t have a shimmy, so I didn’t dig this topic. I think that if you ride on native wheels (diameter, width, offset), on decent tires, there will be no shimmy effect. why do I think so? Because in our club, 70% of lifted jimniks with big tires have this issue. And I don't know of any gymnivot on stock wheels who has shimmy. For the purchase. Can you wait for a new dzhimnik, with a 1.5 liter engine? :) If you take it now, then of course take a fresher one. Right-handers are better equipped. On the machine, the consumption will be 10-13 liters, on the mechanics 7-8 liters. Automatic in your case will be nicer. I bought a car in Japan from a dealer, I was looking for a mechanic for three months :(. Then I brought two more jimniks to order, I also took one from the dealer (there was an almost new target), the other at an auction (there was a price-quality goal), both there were machines, so I found them faster.

      Thanks for the comment, thanks for the wishes. To your questions: 1. If you are going to conquer off-road, heavy off-road, remake a dzhimnik, then a mechanic is better. If light off-road, operation in the city, then the machine is not bad, even sometimes better than mechanics. Automatic at 2200 rpm gives out 80-90 km/h. Mechanics at the same speed - 3000 rpm. In general, IMHO, the machine is rather weak on a dzhimnik. He will cope with off-road, but he will die quickly. The first and main example is that you can’t swing a car on the machine, and this is a very bad minus for off-road. 2. I ride Jimny Velcro all winter. Bridgestone is my favorite tire, Dunlop doesn't hold side skids, Yokohama is also good, Toyo is not liked, but that doesn't mean it's bad. No need to buy Velcro made in China, Russia. I drive all winter (98% on the rear wheel drive, even in a snowstorm), but lately, having traveled by car with spikes, I think about them :). Velcro does not like ice under the snow, this is its minus, and full time 4wd will not cope with this either. We have dzhimnivod drive about 50 to 50, but recently the spikes are starting to outperform. 3. you can, BUT not on asphalt, but on mud, gravel, snow and ice. Gasoline consumption will rise. In addition, maneuverability and agility are reduced. Therefore - overcame a bad section, turn off 4WD. In conclusion: In our region, there are a lot of female gymnivodkas who normally ride Velcro in the winter on a rear wheel drive, just like men. It all depends on experience, correct understanding and feeling of the car (this is not the Subaru Forester, which I drove to Dzhimnik, this is different). But it's cool, Jimnik you feel. He is like alive! An important thing - do not inflate the wheels, as indicated on the nameplate. Make rear 1.6, front 1.5 - this is in the city, off-road by 0.1 less. Always-on four-wheel drive on a dzhimnik is not a buzz! By turning on 4WD, you turn on the interaxle lock, and this is only off-road and preferably in a straight line. Long story short, I'll make a video about it sometime.

      5.01. If I'm not mistaken, Jimnik does not have an interaxle lock for the simple reason that there is no interaxle differential. There is nothing to block. Front and rear driveshaft constantly rotate at the same speed. And the front wheels are connected through the couplings already in 4WD mode.

Many modern residents strive to have personal vehicles, since it is the car that provides free movement along the desired route at any time. However, in order for the vehicle to always be trouble-free, it is important to monitor its technical condition and take preventive measures in time. One of these procedures is the replacement of transmission oil in the Suzuki Jimny automatic transmission. Some owners of such a car may argue that a gearbox is not needed. They confirm their words with the recommendations of the automaker. Indeed, the manufacturer fills in oil and orients buyers to the fact that it will last for the entire operational life of the vehicle. However, any rule can be accompanied by important exceptions, which we will talk about today.

Do-it-yourself instructions for changing the oil in an automatic transmission Suzuki Jimny.

Replacement process

You can find in the technical manual information that the transmission oil is changed during repair work, when the gearbox is inoperative. Also, an urgent need for a leak occurs. However, not only these two force majeure circumstances force the owners of the Suzuki Jimny to carry out this important technical event. Experienced specialists recommend such a replacement not only in these two cases, but also with a certain frequency.

Replacement frequency

In the gearbox, the oil still has to be changed due to the fact that Russian motorists operate the Suzuki Jimny far from the conditions in which the vehicle was subjected to technical tests. It is no secret that the quality of the fuel that is poured into the Suzuki Jimny in Russia is significantly inferior to the fuel that is offered to motorists abroad. Also, the quality of the road surface should not be discounted. Some highways really deserve admiration. However, the car has to move not only along the central highways, but also along the roads of the periphery, so potholes, pits and other road “surprises” increase the load on the main units of the vehicle.

It is for this reason that it is recommended to change the gear oil after overcoming 45 thousand kilometers if a manual transmission is installed on the Suzuki Jimny. If you are the owner of a car with an automatic transmission, then the term for changing the TM is slightly increased. Oil changes every 60 thousand kilometers. You also need to change the TM if you find signs of a leak. Reasons for leakage include:

  • wear of the main elements of the gearbox (shaft surface, seals, sealing ring);
  • shaft play;
  • loosening of bolts;
  • seal failure.

What kind of oil to fill

  • high-quality lubrication of contacting metal elements, reduction of friction force;
  • reducing the load on the main components of the unit;
  • cleaning by eliminating small metal particles;
  • decrease in temperature during operation of the unit.

Before visiting a car dealership, it is useful to arm yourself with information on which specific technical product you need to purchase for Suzuki Jimny.

It is recommended to purchase Dextron-III oil from an auto shop if your car has a manual transmission. If your Suzuki Jimny has an automatic transmission then look for API GL-4 SAE 75W-90 transmission fluid. Never pour oil into this vehicle. Such frivolity will only harm your car, provoke its failure. Unfortunately, this will be followed by an urgent need for repair work, loss of funds.

Sequencing

Transmission fluid replacement is carried out according to the full or partial scheme. If a complete replacement requires certain skills, as well as tools and devices that the car owner simply does not have, then a partial replacement of the TM is easily carried out on its own, even in garage conditions. Initially, you should thoroughly warm up the main units of the vehicle, which include the automatic transmission. To do this, you need to start the engine and drive for at least ten minutes in your car. During this time, the transmission oil will warm up and will flow out much faster.

Now you need to drive the car into the pit, unscrew the drain plug, immediately substitute the container into which mining will begin to drain. This process will take some time, you just need to wait. When the mining stops flowing out, it is necessary to unscrew all the bolts holding the automatic transmission pan. It may be necessary to cut the sealant that also holds the pan.

Now pay attention to the pallet, rinse it thoroughly from dirt. Pay special attention to magnets. Their main purpose is to hold metal particles resulting from friction of automatic transmission elements. This is followed by the installation of a cleaned pallet, tightening the drain hole.

After that, you need to unscrew the filler plug and pour in the necessary. You have to pour different amounts:

  • for manual transmission - 1.9 liters;
  • for automatic transmission - 3.7 liters.

After filling, it is important to immediately measure the oil level using the dipstick. Even if you are convinced that the TM level is normal, do not relax, get behind the wheel of your car, drive at least ten kilometers, then measure the TM level again. If it does not exceed the maximum and is not below the acceptable minimum, we can confidently assume that you have completed such a responsible technical procedure.

So, the replacement of transmission oil should be carried out for any vehicle after overcoming a certain number of kilometers. It is not difficult to replace a TM in a Suzuki Jimny gearbox. We are sure that now you will carry out such procedures in time, preventing the failure of the gearbox.

In order for the car to work flawlessly, it is necessary to monitor its condition and carry out regular preventive measures. One of the necessary procedures for trouble-free movement is the replacement of transmission fluid in an automatic transmission.

According to the recommendations of the car manufacturer, it is not necessary to change the oil. According to the instructions, the grease filled in at the factory should be enough for the operating life of the respective vehicle. Despite the manufacturer's recommendations, changing the lubricant in the gearbox is necessary when repairing automatic transmissions and when transmission lubricant leaks.

Oil change process

Transmission fluid replacement is carried out according to the full or partial scheme. You can carry out a complete change of lubricant by contacting a specialized service. It is difficult to carry out a complete replacement on your own, as the necessary tools and equipment may not be at hand.

On a Suzuki Jimny, do-it-yourself automatic transmission oil change is carried out with the following tools:

  • 24 open-end wrench for drain bolt;
  • funnel or hose to fill in a new mixture;
  • pliers;
  • pipes for draining and filling oil;
  • canister for testing;
  • clean rag;
  • rubber gloves and overalls.

When performing work on a Suzuki Jimny, an automatic transmission oil change must be carried out in accordance with safety precautions. The old mixture must subsequently be disposed of.

The process of changing the lubricant should be carried out by installing the car on a viewing hole or overpass. When the engine is hot, it is impossible to drain the transmission so as not to get burned. Work should be in rubber gloves.

In order to change the automatic transmission oil in Suzuki Jimny, the first step is to warm up the car engine well. When the engine is running, the transmission lubricant warms up, thereby draining better.

Partial oil change in automatic transmission

Partial replacement of lubricant in automatic transmission can be done independently. The process of partial replacement of the mixture consists in draining the main volume of the used mixture. Half of the lubricant remains in different parts of the gearbox.

Incomplete replacement is often performed so that all the used grease can come out. The process will require about 5 liters of liquid.

Partial fluid change in automatic transmission:

  • install the car on a flyover or viewing hole;
  • substitute an empty container under the drain;
  • unscrew the drain on the pallet;

With a partial replacement of the lubricant, up to 40% of the total volume should come out. In other words, a partial change is just an oil change in the gearbox.

The sequence of actions for replacement is as follows:

  • when the grease flows out, unscrew the bolts holding the pan;
  • replace the oil filter;
  • Rinse the pan well from dirt, paying attention to the magnets. Metal shavings are collected on them;
  • wipe dry the tray and magnets;
  • replace the old filter with a new filter;
  • install the pallet in place;
  • change gasket;
  • screw the drain hole;
  • unscrew the filler plug and fill in the required amount of new transmission fluid;
  • for automatic transmission you will need 3.7 liters;
  • check the lubrication level using a dipstick;
  • start the engine, drive a few kilometers;
  • stop the engine and check the oil level again.

If the mixture level is between the maximum and minimum marks, you can be sure that the partial fluid change has been successfully completed.

Complete oil change in automatic transmission

A complete oil change in an automatic transmission is carried out using a compressor unit with a thorough purge and flushing of the entire transmission system. A complete oil change will require double or triple the volume of the mixture.

A complete oil change occurs in stages:

  • the first stage is flushing the entire automatic transmission system. Flushing is carried out with a special liquid;
  • the second stage - by the method of punching, the used lubricant is changed;
  • the third stage is the replacement of the filter and pan gasket.

This blowing method contributes to the complete cleaning of the entire gearbox system. There will be no old grease or foreign deposits left in the automatic transmission. Uninterrupted operation of the car after a complete fluid change is guaranteed.

What happens to the car if there is not enough oil in the automatic transmission?

The main cause of clutch failure is a low oil level in the gearbox. Due to low oil pressure, the friction linings in the gearbox heat up, char and collapse. For this reason, the lubricant is highly contaminated.

With a lack of transmission fluid, the following breakdowns occur:

  • plungers and channels of the valve body are clogged with mechanical particles. This will lead to wear of the sleeve and rubbing parts of the pump;
  • overheating and wear of the steel disks of the gearbox;
  • overheating and combustion of rubber-coated pistons, thrust discs, clutch drum;
  • wear and tear of the hydraulic unit.

If the amount of oil is insufficient, the car will jerk when driving, and jolts will appear when switching. To avoid these breakdowns, it is necessary to change the fluid in the Suzuki Jimny automatic transmission in a timely manner, subject to all the recommendations of the car manufacturer.

Differences in changing the oil in an automatic transmission on other Suzuki models

For most Suzuki car models, the oil change is almost the same. The main recommendation is to fill the liquid of the established standard. The oil change in the automatic transmission in Suzuki Liana is filled for the entire period of operation. Synthetic oil does not lose its properties under the influence of high temperature, it is designed for a very long service life.

Among car models, oil changes in Suzuki Splash automatic transmissions are associated with automatic transmission repairs or fluid leaks, as with other Suzuki models. All oil change processes are almost the same for cars such as Suzuki Jimny, Suzuki Liana, Suzuki Splash, Suzuki Wagon, Suzuki Aerio. The main requirement in this process is compliance with safety rules and manufacturer's recommendations.
